Sreesanth says he's inspired by Mohammad Amir’s comeback after court lifts fixing ban (update #520)

If he was absolved of his allegations, then why was he still banned for 7 years? Doesn't make sense.

Well he's almost 37, India have a lot of good upcoming pacers, don't think he will be able to play international cricket again.

16th May, 2013

Three Rajasthan Royals bowlers - Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila - are arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly fulfilling promises made to bookmakers. A week later, Gurunath Meyiappan, Chennai Super Kings' team principal and the son-in-law of BCCI president N Srinivasan, was arrested on charges of cheating, forgery and fraud.

Ankeet Chavan, the left-arm spinner who was involved in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, has been formally cleared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to resume competitive cricket.

The Mumbai spinner’s life ban, imposed in September 2013, had been converted into a seven-year suspension by the BCCI ethics officer last month. Since then, the former Rajasthan Royals bowler was awaiting the BCCI letter.

“It’s a huge sigh of relief for me and everyone in the family to have finally got the formal communication,” Chavan told Sportstar on Tuesday. “I am thankful to the BCCI and my parent body, Mumbai Cricket Association. I am eagerly looking forward to getting back on the field once the pandemic subsides.”

Since Chavan’s suspension was over after last month’s revised verdict, he had sent several reminders to the BCCI. The BCCI confirmed his suspension period having ended on Tuesday.

Why would I do that for Rs 10 lakh when my party bills are around Rs 2 lakh: S Sreesanth on IPL fixing saga

S Sreesanth had faced suspension for life over his alleged involvement in IPL 2013 fixing scandal

All the charges levied against Sreesanth were recently dropped, making him eligible to play cricket againThe Kerala pacer has opened up on the infamous episode in an interview

S Sreesanth had emerged as one of the most ferocious cricketers in Indian cricket. A winner of the 2007 ICC World T20 as well as the 2011 ODI World Cup, Sreesanth's career witnessed an abrupt end after the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) fixing saga. Having been cleared of the charges, the pace bowler has now opened up on the charges.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Sreesanth ridiculed the allegations, saying there's no reason for him to even think of doing an act of corruption for INR 10 lakh when his usual party bills come around INR 2 lakh. The pace bowler had allegedly conceded 13 runs deliberately in a single over, having been asked to do so by a bookie.

“This is the first interview in which I am sharing or explaining it. It was supposed to be one over and 14-plus runs. I bowled four balls for five runs. No no-ball, no wide and not a single slower ball in an IPL game. I was bowling at 130-plus after 12 surgeries on my toe.”

“I had played the Irani Trophy and was looking to play the South African series, so that we can win in September 2013. We were going early, and it moves better in September. My goal was to play that series. A person like that, why would I do it, that too for 10 lakhs?, I am not talking big but I used to have bills of around 2 lakh when I partied around," Sreesanth said.

The Kerala-born cricketer said that he used to make all his personal payments by card and not cash. If he in fact had such cash with him, he would be seen splashing it around, which wasn't the case. In the end, it was his well-wishers' prayers that helped him sail through.

"I used to pay with my card not cash. If I had so much of cash, I would have been spraying it out. In fact, I used to take care of even a normal person."

"In my life, I have only helped and given belief. I have helped a lot of people, and those prayers helped me get out of this. All I would ask is - two balls, five runs, two balls to go. How would I give away all that I had invested? No way,” he concluded.

In his career, Sreesanth has played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is, claiming a total of 169 international wickets.

Honestly he's scapegoated there.. Don't thinks he's a part of spot fixing.. Though his attitude means he's made lot of troubles to the team so he didn't get any sympathy/support from anywhere..

Ex-India star overcome with emotion as he picks up first wicket after life ban overturned

Former India bowler Sreesanth was 'overjoyed' after taking his first wicket in first-class cricket for nine years, having made a return to the sport in his late 30s after being hit with a lifetime ban in 2013 from the BCCI.

Sreesanth played a total of 90 internationals for India across all formats, but was implicated in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal and banned for life.

However, after a long court battle, Sreesanth's ban was reduced to seven years in 2019, meaning he would be free to play cricket again in September 2020.

He was unable to make his first-class comeback until this year, though, with the previous edition of the Ranji Trophy, India's leading first-class competition, getting suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sreesanth made his return to competitive cricket in a T20 match for Kerala in January last year and he has now returned to first-class cricket as well, playing his first game in nine years as Kerala beat Meghalaya by an innings.

The 39-year-old took the new ball for his side and celebrated emotionally when he dismissed Aryan Bora, dropping to the ground and getting mobbed by his teammates.

In a post on Twitter, Sreesanth wrote: "Now that’s my 1st wicket after 9 long years..gods grace I was just over joyed and giving my Pranaam to the wicket ..#grateful #cricket #ketalacricket #bcci #india #Priceless"

In a separate tweet, Sreesanth called on fans to not write him off, insisting he still has "much more to offer to cricket".

He wrote: "These are my new ball bowling last game. Unless and until u guys watch me play pls don’t write me off looking at scorecard.

"Lots of love and respect to each and everyone of u..I have much more to offer to cricket I will never ever give up".

Should have called Harbhajan Singh to help with the questioning. That slap left him reeling.
