Sreesanth says he's inspired by Mohammad Amir’s comeback after court lifts fixing ban (update #520)

Wth.... How foolish they are, Sad day for Indian Cricket. Hand life bans if found guilty, and a pat on the back of the officials who exposed the latest scam.

Sad to hear that. Shame on all 3 of them.

Hats off to Delhi police. They were the ones who busted the match fixing mafia 15 years back, they are doing it again now.

How many matches Sree played ? Not sure if he played many games. Let's see what comes out after questioning.

Sad to hear that. In a way sad day for cricket and good day for cricket.. good to see India is going head-on to deal with corruption.

Life bans for 3 of them if found guilty. ZERO tolerance policy is a must when it comes to match/spot fixing in cricket.

Honestly patriotism cant be used to defend spot fixing/match fixing. We all know it exists everywhere and we have to make it a point to put our bias aside and not defend these ppl. Sreesanth and the 2 others must be the stupidest players in the world to pull something like this in such a high profile tournament. Hats off to Delhi police, but what the hell is the Anti corruption Unit by the ICC for? Isnt this suppose to be their job.

hope Indian police continue these operations and weed out these kind of players...

Good job police. If found guilty they should be handed life time ban + fine that equals the sum of contract fees paid to them in all IPL.

I can't believe Sreesanth will put his future on line just like that.

I think from the bookies POV it makes perdect sense, I mean I don't think anyone would get suspicious if Sreesanth bowls a noball :))

Fixing in the IPL? I'm shocked.

Well IPL is cricket and cricket is not free from fixing at least not yet.

_________________________________________________________________________
This news is like a shot in the arm for anti-IPL people :( , they never take in to account the fixes that happened in international cricket by their countrymen before uttering their expert opinion.

Anyway I'm glad the police found the rats and they need to punished in the maximum possible way, probably a jail sentence?

According to latest news Police have parrested Ankit & Ajith and they both have been taken by Delhi Police to Delhi from Mumbai.
While Shreesanth alone who has not been arrested but kept in Mumbai for investigation

Jadega, MOngia,Azharhuddin, Cronje, Gibbs, AtaurRehman, and many many more.

to add a few more - Akram, Anwar, Salim Malik (pls read justice qayyam report). Anwar admitted to Sohail that he did few matches and he felt very bad abt it later..

some of em were convicted, others with iffy conditions.........that's a big can of worm :sachin

I cant believe Sree could do it. He is such a well paid member of the senior team so why would he do it ?

Absolutely disgusted with this news. That too coming from a legend like Dravid's team is even more difficult pill to swallow for me. If proven, stern action need to be taken against the culprits by Police as well as BCCI.

I would personally want BCCI/Police to investigate incompetent Indian Umps too along with these players.

Indian Umps are atrociously awful throughout this season.

1) N Ravi, 2) Asnani, 3) Kulkarni, 4) Shamshu, 5) Das, 6) Srinath

(Anil Chaudhary has been the only saving grace)

NDTV update:

These players spot fixed in Mohali match and Mumbai match. Players are paid through hawala.

Here's my prediction on one more name that might come out - Ajinkya Rahane.

If this actually happens, then i will share the information, which was given to me before Raj-KKR match in Kolkatta. I won decent money based upon that information and now i am actually quite curious to know if it was a mere coincidence or was there more than what met the eyes.

Another name would be OA Shah

What???

Is this real!!

You need to contact Delhi police if you know something or you are guilty of the same thing.

Tell Delhi police what? That someone who brags a lot told me that a particular event will happen in Xth over? That's why i said i will wait and see if that was a 'tukka'/coincidence or he actually had some insider information.

Dhoni and Bhajji trapped Sreesanth how?
as we know Bhajji had problems with sree. Maybe thats why some people are spreading these rumours. I dont believe this news anyways as its not from any reliable source .

That's the most ludicrous allegation I have ever heard from an alleged fixer's family member.

4th suspect could be a overseas player of RR (from twitter)

OK fair enough.

Its not reported by any credible source bro. Just floating on the internet. Would be disgraceful stuff if true. But lets wait for some news channel to report it.

The nabbing of Sreesanth

image_20130414101817.jpg
It was a major operation by the Special cell of the Delhi police which busted a spot fixing racket in the Indian Premier League. The Delhi police has been on the trail of this operation since the past 20 days and acting on tip offs from the Intelligence Bureau (Crime Wing), they were able to bust this racket.

Sources in the department tell rediff.com that the matter is under investigation, but there is prima-facie evidence to show that these players who have been arrested were involved. The call records are a crucial piece of evidence for the Delhi police and say that most of the spot fixing was done on phone. We are yet to find out the number of matches in which there has been spot fixing. However we are confident and sure that the syndicate which orchestrated this was from Bombay.

In all we suspect that there are over 15 bookies involved in this case, Delhi police sources say. While seven have been arrested already, we are on the look out for more of them who are from the neighboring states. It has a nation wide ramification and the investigation could well lead to more names.

The first time that the crime wing of the Intelligence Bureau put out an alert regarding spot fixing in the IPL was during the Chinnaswamy stadium blasts. The alert was shared with the then Home Minister, Dr V S Acharya who had confirmed that there was spot fixing and the blasts were a result of the same.

Although the Bangalore police did not probe that angle into the case, there was a lot of data that was gathered which suggested massive betting during the IPL. Most of the spot fixing takes place in Bombay as the biggest syndicate exists over there. Bookies have been in touch with players who are vulnerable and seek out information for a certain sum of money.

Delhi police sources say that in this particular case there were specific inputs and information regarding the team and other details had been allegedly shared. In addition to this there has also been some information which suggests that the players under the scanner had facilitated the bookies during the games that they played in. The fact is that we have been on their trail for almost a month now and the details do suggest a prima facie case.

The Delhi police say that they are seeking the co-operation of the Rajasthan Royals, the team that these players belong to. The bookies who have been picked up are being questioned about the other players that are involved in this betting racket and we believe that there are more involved. We focused on these players since the input and alerts were specific to them.

Re: Shreesanth, Ankit Chavan, Ajit Chandila arrested by in case of spot fixing

Not really sure how they could have 'spot fixed'. In the two matches in OP, no extras were conceded in any of their overs. They didn't bat either. Every other aspect of the game is not entirely under their control.

as we know Bhajji had problems with sree. Maybe thats why some people are spreading these rumours. I dont believe this news anyways as its not from any reliable source .

Chandila's family is saying this is bogus and a trap but we all know that the players don't tell their family if they are fixing or not. It is just basic human nature, a reaction to the accusations, deflect the blame to others.

RP Singh anyone? :asif

:( , I was defending him when it happened now don't know how to react or what to believe. These three are national disgrace and they should be jailed, anything less will make people lose faith in the players and cricket.

RP singh and a lot of umpiring decisions needs to be investigated.

sad sad day.

considering these guys made quite a bit of money to play in the IPL it must have been a heck of an amount to get them to match fix.

Could also be a Honey Trap, not just money that lures these kinda well earning players (Sreesanth in particular was doing fantastically well with his diverse business fronts).

Also, Thisara Perera's over in Mumbai Indians match looked suspicious too! And who can forget Dale Steyn's bouncers to Dhoni! Boy, this can get bigger

If they are guilty, it will be a real shame. IPL already pays them well so this would be stupid stuff.

There was another thread here on Pollard dropping 3 catches in row, wasn't that suspicious as well or maybe they were tough ones to hold on to?

Sreesanth you nut. What have you done now?

You're richie rich but you still act like a total prat on occasion.

Ankeet Chavan rings a bell, who partnered with Tendulkar in a partnership in the RoI game prior to the Australia series.

No idea about the other bloke.

ITs just the tip of iceberg and you watch the league then alot things look fishy........

Said it all along.

IPL = Farce.

Its truckload of defenders (who'll diss this post, no doubt) never fail to surprise me.

Yes the batsman was hussey who was in the race with gayle for orange cap too. Also he is a chennai super king player which belongs to srinivasan who might have helped him to stay ahead no offence to hussey.. It can really get big. Only speculations thus far.

Sreesanths dad accused Bhajji, Dhoni on a local Malyalam News Channel - fact - Its being shown at Star/ABP News channel.

I thought it was a fake news but no its true.

This is becoming a Reality show p@ss@ng contest now. Parents of players are accusing each other.

Sreesanth’s parents blame Dhoni, Harbhajan for 'plot against son'

HT Correspondent,
Hindustan Times Kerala, May 16, 2013

Cricketer S Sreesanth’s father Shanthakumaran Nair has blamed India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and teammate Harbhajan Singh for
implicating his son in the spot- fixing scandal, saying his son is the victim of a larger conspiracy.

“Dhoni and Harbhajan
conspired to finish his
cricketing career,” said Nair.
“The latter had executed this
with the help of a deputy
superintendent of police in Punjab. Dhoni had threatened him recently that he won’t don the Indian cap again.”

He did not elaborate as to
why Dhoni and Harbhajan had allegedly conspired against his son.

“He is innocent. A committed player, he will be the last person to do this,” said Madhu Balakrishnan, Sreesanth’s brother-in-law and a leading playback singer.

The Kerala pacer was arrested along with his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan by Delhi police in Mumbai on Wednesday night on charges of spot-fixing in the ongoing
Twenty 20 League.

At least seven bookies have
also been arrested, while
police are on the lookout for others.

Sreesanth, Chavan and Chandila being questioned in spot-fixing investigation

I think my daily dose of entertainment will be satisfied here in this thread

Sreesanths dad accused Bhajji, Dhoni on a local Malyalam News Channel - fact - Its being shown at Star/ABP News channel.

I thought it was a fake news but no its true.

So what?

Its a mere crazy allegation (without any solid proof) to defend the accused by his close family member.

Sree has been acting more than his usual weirdness for quite sometime, try reading his tweets for the last month or so to understand how pissed off he was with everyone/everything.

Using the excuse of MSD/Bhajji (Could possibly to escape the wrath of Kerala/RR supporters) will only gonna earn him further enmity with Indian cricket fans.

It seems Police have got solid proof this time, and been waiting for the last 20 days to catch the culprits red-handed. Hopefully Police press meet @ 3 PM will clarify many of our doubts.

R u talking about this match ??? http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2013/engine/match/598043.html

Ankit Chavan bowled a wide off first ball in this match :13:

0.1 Chavan to Gambhir, 1 wide, round the stumps, on the leg stump line and turned away, given wide

According to Sources many matched were fixed and there other players too are involved including foreign players.

Just look at this match & Perera's bowling lol http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2013/engine/match/598060.html

16.1 Perera to Sharma, SIX, doles out a long hop, poor, poor delivery, slower one bowled short and Rohit murders that over the deep midwicket boundary, second tier again, he can hit them miles

16. 2 Perera to Sharma, 1 run, meaty drive but struck straight to long-off for a single

16.3 Perera to Pollard, FOUR, Pollard cashes in this time, Perera is bowling gifts here, thrashed over midwicket for a one bounce four

16.4 Perera to Pollard, SIX, that was done with ease, the flattest of sixes, length ball on middle and he drills that hard, Sammy is pretty straight and he leaps but that just clears him and crashes into the sightscreen

16.5 Perera to Pollard, SIX, identical result, Perera, after those two short balls, now doles out length and Pollard dispatches him flat over his head

16.6 Perera to Pollard, SIX, doesn't help, another length delivery and Pollard is not entirely in control of this one, or so we think, it's struck hard enough to clear wide long-on
Mumbai Indians 146/3 NLTC Perera 3-0-43-0

19.1 Perera to Pollard, SIX, another six, low full toss and he swings it hard over deep midwicket, his top hand came off there as he made contact, all over

19.2 Perera to Pollard, no run, dot ball, dropped it short on middle, tried to pull, missed

19.3 Perera to Pollard, SIX, oh dear, what domination, what ruthlessness, what carnage, dropped that short and that's been smashed to pulp and sent back over deep square leg

Any idea as to what the fixing was for? As in a no-ball, or some team info or something.

Repeated phone conversations with bookies, Police were monitoring those bookies for quite awhile(six months).

More info will be revealed in 2~3 hours as Delhi police called for a press meet today.

Not sure what was fixed, it could even be related to toss/pitch report or playing eleven. So far, no news on what's being allegedly fixed by the accused.

Statement by BCCI

We have just received the statement from the BCCI. Here it is. Verbatim:
"The BCCI is shocked and saddened at the recent developments. The BCCI has zero tolerance to corruption. We will offer all cooperation to the Delhi police and all other authorities in their investigations in this matter. The IPL Governing Council has met and decided that the cricketers found involved will be dealt with severely.

As of now, the 3 players viz; Ankeet Chavan, Ajit Chandila and S. Sreesanth stand suspended pending enquiry. All information required to bring the persons involved to book will be collected and strictest action will be taken, if found guilty.

The BCCI engages the services of the anti corruption wing of the ICC to educate and monitor players and support staff in prevention of corruption of any form in the game. In fact, it is wholly unfortunate that despite such education, best playing conditions and terms of engagement offered, some players seem to be indulging in such activity.

Chuck them outta the country. For good.

Not really sure how they could have 'spot fixed'. In the two matches in OP, no extras were conceded in any of their overs. They didn't bat either. Every other aspect of the game is not entirely under their control.

Let investigation finish. It seems that BCCI has already suspended them, that's a good start. If they are found involved in any fixing then BCCI should follow their own example of 90's and ban them for life. That's the only way any fixer should be treated even if it was a domestic game.

Statement by BCCI - " The BCCI has zero tolerance to corruption."

That's the way to go. Just ensure that fixers( if found guilty) don't play cricket even at domestic level.

Sreesanth, Chavan and Chandila being questioned in spot-fixing investigation

Was it last year that couple of Indian umpires were banned for taking money from bookies?

Someday I will become a fixer :butt
they are making tons of money and i can't even make a dollar on cricket. life sucks :asif
