Looks like SL will post 300+. They've looked really good past two games. Maybe they can be a surprise factor in the Asia Cup.

THE Standard Bank Proteas finished their ODI series against Sri Lanka on a disappointing note when they went down by 178 runs to their hosts in the final match at the R. Pramadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.

They nevertheless won the series 3-2, having won the first three matches in a row. They now drop down below New Zealand to fourth place on the ICC rankings as they needed a 5-0 series win to stay at No. 3.

Set a target of 300 for victory the Proteas never looked like getting close as they were bowled out for 121 in 24.4 overs – their lowest total against Sri Lanka. The margin of victory was their second worst against these opponents.

Only four Proteas batsmen got into double figures and the only partnership of any note was the 46 for the fifth wicket between Quinton de Kock, who made top score of 54 (57 balls, 7 fours and a six) and JP Duminy.

The destroyer in chief was spinner Akila Dananjaya who returned figures of 6/29, the best ever for Sri Lanka against the Proteas. He also finished the series as leading wicket-taker with 14 dismissals.

By contrast, Sri Lanka had four partnerships of 50 runs or more in a solid batting display, the highlight of which was the innings of captain Angelo Mathews (97 not out, 97 balls, 11 fours and a six). He had the chance to record his third ODI century and his first against the Proteas when he needed to hit a boundary off the last ball of the innings bowled by Kagiso Rabada but was only able to make a single.

Rabada came back into the South African team in place of Lungi Ngidi while Aiden Markram played in place of David Miller in a second change.

Dananjaya was named Man of the Match and Duminy Man of the Series.

"Akila Dananjaya is set to return to international cricket after being included in Sri Lanka’s squad for the upcoming five-match ODI series against South Africa.

Dananjaya’s action has been declared as legal after undergoing remedial work, and he will resume his international career having last played for Sri Lanka in their Test series against England in 2018.

Dananjaya's inclusion is one of a number of changes to Sri Lanka’s squad. Experienced opener Upul Tharanga returns to the side having missed out on selection for the tour of New Zealand, while Oshada Fernando, who made his Test debut in Sri Lanka’s one-wicket win over South Africa in Durban last week, has received his maiden ODI call-up.

Others selected include: Avishka Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Priyamal Perera, Isuru Udana and Vishwa Fernando. Angelo Perera, who recently became the second man in history to score two double centuries in a first-class match, has also been named in the 17-man squad.

Udana's inclusion is a particularly notable one – the left-arm seamer's last ODI appearance came against India in July 2012. However, after some impressive performances for Sri Lanka A against Ireland Wolves – Udana took 11 wickets in five List A matches – he now finds himself back in the 50-over reckoning.

Dinesh Chandimal, who missed out on selection for the Test series, has also been excluded from the ODI squad. The ODI series is Sri Lanka's last before squads for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup are announced in April.

Sri Lanka have also announced a change to their squad for the ongoing Test series. Chamika Karunaratne, who made his Test bow against Australia at the start of the month, has suffered an injury and is to be replaced by Asitha Fernando.

The first ODI between South Africa and Sri Lanka is set to take place on 3 March in Johannesburg. "
