Sri Lanka A v Pakistan A | 1st U/O Test | Dambulla | 7-10 Aug 09

We should try out youngsters like Umar Amin, Azhar Ali

but if they fail we should go with Imran Nazir and Nasir Jamshed opening in tests and let the opposition worry about us not the other way round

or

play Kamran Akmal (as specialist batsman) up top with Salman Butt and get Sarfraz Ahmed to keep wicket

Umar Amin's century is the only thing holding this sorry excuse of a scorecard together , honestly I'm disappointed .... This is a flat pitch , Yes?.

Jehan Mubarak of all people got a century! ... I just don't understand it ... if its a flat pitch then why were the rest of the batsman so poor ... failure to apply themselves? this has seriously pissed me off ... very well done though Umar Amin ... opening the innings and getting a century ... Khurram did well aswell ... i think he could earn another chance in test cricket with the way he's played so far on this tour ... keep it up both of you

what a shame they had 3 openers playing and decided to open with Umar Amin, why cant they let people bat in their position. Sure he did well but he's a number 3 or middler order bat.

I know that Azhar Ali sees himself as an opener and really wanted to open the innings during the Sri Lanka tour, he was worried they wouldnt open with him and he was right!!

The team management need to accomodate Ahmed Shahzad and Khurram Manzoor in the XI. I'm shocked that Khalid Latif has been left out, usually he would have played whatever form he's in.

Khalid latif's in the squad though right? It just a hugely unbalanced squad ... 4 opener's ... how can you play them all

Generally for an A team match its about picking the best players and going with them.

Ahmed Shahzad seems to be a bit overrated to me.

He's not.

He's still young but if he gets regular chances then he'll prove himself.

Based on the T20 WC? If you go back to his ODI matches vs Aus then you'd see that he's one of our most technically sound players. The foundation is there, he just has to build on it. IMO he's one for the future

ya i am fine with accomodating them. Manzoor and Azhar could have opened followed by shahzad and amin

what do you guys think of Manzoor's performance's ... he isn't technically correct by any stretch of the imagination ... but a 100 in the warm up ... 65 here ... whats he doing right all of a sudden?

He's always done well domestically and with the A tam. This come as no surprise. The question isn't if he has talent but whether he can translate his FC success to the international level.

Pakistan A all out for 315. Monumental effort by Umar Amin, 153 from 265 balls with 19 fours. Classy player this guy, saw him during U-19 World Cup and I was amazed at the technique that this guy possesses. Almost perfect. Would love it if he gets some runs under his belt on this tour and gets the notice of the selectors

Sarfraz and Talha played in this Test as it was 20/20

Sarfraz Ahmed† 20 Runs 14 Balls 4 (4s) 0 (6s) 142.85 (Strike rate)

Mohammad Talha not out 13 Runs 9 Balls 3 (4s) 0 (6s) 144.44 (Strike Rate)

With this, I would like to bring the attention towards the Batting and hard hitting abilities of Talha.

Has any one seen him batting before? Has he got the Talent to become hard hitting batsman?

Talha's got a couple of wickets in the second innings ... seems to have bowled well ... heres hoping he picks up a few more

Very poor start to the run chase being 4/2 but recovering now with Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shahzad hopefully we can bat out for the draw

Under 50 overs to see out, should be able to do it.

Shehzad on 41*. Big chance for him to make some noise.

Azhar Ali would be the perfect leacher type to open thye batting provided we have good stroke players to play around him.

An away draw against Sri Lanka will be very creditable given the non-performance of senior team

Credit to Ahmed Shahzad and Azhar Ali for not collapsing in Pakistani style after being 4/2

Fixed.:p

Good sporting declaration from Sri Lanka and sporting of Pakistan to return the favour with two wickets in the first 7 balls.

what?? Fahad Masood came in before Sheryar Ghani, wht is happening??

its125/4 with Bhanja gone for 17

Supreme kudos to Azhar Ali the guy has deadbatted about 90 per cent of the 30 overs he has faced !

As I said earlier.

Match drawn I believe

Good first innings performance's form Khurram Manzoor and Umar Amin

Well played Ahmed Shehzad and Azhar Ali in the second innings

Sheharyar Ghani has been a dissapointment in this game lets hope he does much better in the next one

Umar Amin the outstanding Pakistani player with his 150+ score as an opener

Ghani is a total parchi player, 22 and 0. Hope he's dropped for the next game!!

It will be interesting to see how many PPers are going to agree with you ;-)

Come on Merc he has a domestic First class record to back him up ... he did well against Aus A aswell ... so i'm gonna say that this was a poor attempt at humour on you're part :13:

Sri Lanka A 417 and 271 for 5 dec (Thirimanne 62, Rupasinghe 59*) drew with Pakistan A 315 and 156 for 6 (Shehzad 59, Ali 45*, Randiv 3-49)
Scorecard
Pakistan A put on a gritty batting performance to deny Sri Lanka A a win in the first unofficial Test in Dambulla. Ahmed Shehzad's 59 and an unbeaten 45 from Azhar Ali shut out the home team.

Set 374 to win after Sri Lanka A declared on 271 for 5, Pakistan were in trouble straightaway when both openers - Khurram Manzoor and Umar Amin - fell without scoring. That brought together Shehzad and Ali, who frustrated Sri Lanka's bowlers with 93 for the third wicket.

Runs came at a crawl, with both batsmen content on playing safe. After Shehzad's dismissal, Ali continued to keep the bowlers at bay till the end and was well supported by Fahad Masood, who took 50 balls for his 7. There was one more blip, with Pakistan reduced to 138 for 6 at one stage, but Sri Lanka ran out of time to bowl out the tourists.

Suraj Randiv capped a successful match as he picked up three wickets in the innings to finish with match figures of 7 for 139.

The second unofficial Test begins in Colombo on Thursday.
