What's new

Sri Lanka beat Australia by 106 runs in the 1st Test

Wow SL have sunk to anew low. Excellent bowling by the Aussies though. As I type Warner gets out. This might get interesting if Aus are also dismissed for a low score.

Warner the biggest FTB in the world.

Bit of grass, swing and spin and he's done. However on a flat pitch, he's easily the most dangerous player around.

Not in the same league as Cook, but the second best (distant) opener of this era, although Vijay is hot on his heels.

But it wasn't any of those things that led to his undoing today, he just played a loose shot at a normal ball on what is by all accounts a batsman's paradise with only a little bit of turn.

Burns you have been practising for almost 1 week at Chennai only to get bowled in the 2nd over.

Smith needs to score in the subcontinent. He is also closing in on 4000 test runs.

Has the potential to be a great batsmen. Scoring runs away from home will help. He has scored in south Africa new zeeland and England. Needs more in the subcontinent although he has a couple of decent scores.

Wow what a pathetic performance from SL so far! you would have thought they would be better competitive in home conditions.

Someone will say Smith FTB, if he fails here.

Roooooot wouldn't have survived 46 balls on this minefield.

Far from a minefield. Good bowling and fielding from Oz and some very ordinary batting from SL. Ordinary as in minnowesque.

He scored 90+ against us in Punjab. Thirupu Munai for him as a batsman street cricketer

I know. Wasn't the last match conducted at Kolkata?

We were pretty demoralised after the series defeat then and the spinners were pis* poor. Now we have Ash, Jaddu and Mishra in good form and it's always difficult to score against the trio. Will be a good test for him.

Last match in Delhi. Jinx's debut match.. Lyon got 7fer, I think.. Jaddu and Dhoni chased down the score, IIRC

Everything is going as per my prediction. Why 3 spinners and a pacer on a ground known to assist fast bowlers though ?

May be Mathews was planning to bundle out Aussies in the 4th innings by spin overdose, but instead he got trolled massively by his batsmen.

Good opportunity for Marsh.

he's been carried for a while and a good performance here to help us get to a 100+ lead would go a long way to repaying some faith

SL batsmen are kinda mentally slow, so its pretty normal.

Mathews is a rubbish captain. Stay aggressive at this point. A four means nothing

Australia are 13 runs ahead on the first innings, should declare to give themselves enough time to bowl out SL again.

Got to be the weakest OZ side to tour SL since I've been following cricket. We are still gettin pantsed :danish

Why do Australia struggle so much against spin?

And it's not even a big turner like the ones you get in India.

Don't play good spinners and they play in too extremes - either try to dominate them or lose all confidence

Yeah horrendous batting from both sides. Nothing wrong with the pitch from what I have seen. Nothang.

The best thing about Mathews' captaincy is the reviews he takes. Bladdy hilarious never disappoints :)))

This guy. Always so defensive.

Loosen up a bit Sonny.

Its a reason kiddo, India don't have bouncy tracks in India so when they play on bouncy tracks they struggle, Australia don't have spinning tracks so they struggle on spinning tracks. Its not rocket science.

Australia are so bad against spin. Look at how India have improved on bouncy pitches, and Australia still can't find a way to play spin.

They can't read Sandakan at all. Australia obviously did not know anything about him (he was in England with the A squad just 6 days ago) and did not prepare for left arm mystery chinaman bowling; Sanath and the selectors sprung a great surprise.

I'd really like to see Tharindu Kaushal in the side instead of Perera. That spin attack would be too much for Australia, the accuracy and experience of Herath, the mystery legspin of Sandakan, and Kaushal who rips the ball, gets big turn.

Kashual is a decent bowler. Hope he comes back for Sri Lanka

Australia are a joke against spin.

Ashwin, Sir and Mishra will destroy them.

India and Australia are destined to win home series against each other.

That said, Smith will come good in India. But he will receive no support.

I remember Starc scoring 99 at PCA, Mohali :) street cricketer

But yeah, this is an inexperienced Australian team and inexperienced young batsmen from non SC teams always find it difficult to play on turning tracks at the start of their careers, just like old Asian batsmen find it difficult to cope with pace and swing at the fag end of their careers outside the subcontinent.

I think this Aussie team will perform better in India next time around after some good experience from the Sri Lankan tour.

Lanka has to score 230 to defend 150 in 4th innings. Seems like a gun test match looking at scorecard :yk

This is some horrible batting. Our lot are rubbish so not much of a surprise there but expected Oz to put up at least 250 here. Still Oz well and truly in the box seat. Looking at probably a max 150 chase.

HAD Sri Lanka somehow managed to score 200 the dimension of the game would have changed completely and they would have been in the driver's seat.

Let's see can they fight it out.

India tour should be really fun for both Aus and NZ team. Eng have Cook and Root both. So they may do slightly better but they don't have good spinners. To succeed in India, you need at least two world class spin player and a world class spinner too.

We needed Sanga here. A Sanga led team might have won us the game vs Aus here.

Its tough now.

This. Playing and bowling spin is the key in the subcontinent. India will beat Australia and New Zealand. England will put up a good fight but I think India will take moen and England's other spinner apart. Also England lower middle order vs spin isn't convincing. Need root and cook to have top series.
