Sri Lanka beat Australia by 106 runs in the 1st Test

Off to a good start again I see. Still eight wickets in the bank no harm done.

These guys really need to have a look at how India and Pakistan play against non SC teams at home. Bowlers have done okay mostly but the batting and bowling plans/captaincy have been far too defensive. No direction and no intent. Playing more like a meek away team than an actual home team. Has been the case for a long time now.
 
Don't want to put the mockers on him but top knock by Mendis. At least someone has shown a bit of intent.
 
Looks like Herath will win it for SL, like he did against India in the first test on their tour.
 
Kusal Mendis has 86 out of 116!

If Chandimal can also bat a session here, Aussies could be under pressure chasing 150+
 
Mendis is showing one hell of a fight along with Chandimal. Some how SL should give 200+ target and this match will be interesting then.

A target of 200 would prove very tough for Australia.

I think Aussies could chase up to 250 here, so still A lot of hard work for SL to do from here.
 
What a brilliant fight back by Sri Lanka. This young batsman Mendis is looking all class. Hopefully in him SL have unearthed a gem for the middle order who can play for them for next 8-10 years.

Test entering into a very interesting phase now. Anything over 200+ against Herath and Laxmanan will be a tall order for Australia.

And as has been the norm in last few series, SL continue to produce most action oriented Test wickets. Kudos to the SLC for that, which otherwise cannot get its act in order.

Look how hes playing right now. It was obvious from the start he had a lot of talent. You should stop doing the same with Pakistani players as well like Babar in Test cricket.

Chasing 250 against Herath even on day 4 wicket will be tough.

Add the fact that Ozzies cannot read the chinaman bowler.
 
Kusal had only first class century and average around 30 , SL definitely picked him on potential.
 
Lyon picks wickets in non Asian conditions but somehow struggles to win matches for Aussies in Asia!

Also, was shocked to read that he's an year younger than Ashwin and Yasir Shah. seems to be around for at least 8-10 years for Australia!

Sri Lanka has more guts than when it comes to regroup. In this case we would be bowled out under 100.

Pakistani batting lineup needs an infusion of youth with good reflexes and strokeplay .
 
I think its unfair to label group all Asian tracks together .
India and srilanka definitely offer more to the bowlers , especially the spinners.
This steve 'o keefe guy didnt turn a single balll in the UAE but he is turning it here. Same with lyon.
Credit to the bowlers for taking 20 wickets in the UAE.

Srilanka can defend 200 here .

What a soft dismissal. Aussies couldve done this ages ago. Set an off side field for Lyon and ask him to bowl outside off stump

Brilliant from the Lankans. Looks like the younger generation will keep the Lankan ship sailing. Have got excellent talents in Mendis and Chandimal. Reports of the death of Sri Lankan cricket have been greatly exaggerated.:shakib

He made his debut in SL in 2011. So Its just 5 years [MENTION=139942]ShoonyaSifar[/MENTION]
 
Lyon is a great offie.

The world will remember him as a bowler who was much greater than his stats.

However needs to improve on Asian tracks with less bounce where his team depends on him to finish off games.
 
Another 56 wickets needed to surpass G Swann - Second most by a non-Asian offie.

What an epic innings.169 not out on a difficult pitch and scored about 60 percent of team runs. Kusal take a bow.
 
What a fight back by SL especially by Mendis, would be disaster if they lost.

No it doesnt. Australia in Australia is unbeatable. Im an optimistic person but I have no hope for that Australia tour. None at all. No matter what team we play.
 
Interesting to note this is Kusal Mendis's highest FC score. He's only scored 1 FC hundred prior to this innings and averages only 31.

Perhaps shows as a selector that stats isn't the ultimate arbiter of a talent and you sometimes have to go with a hunch, so credit to Sanath Jayasuriya too.

This guy is a dangerous player but he only comes to the party once in several months. I remember he single handedly won Lanka an ODI when we were down there last time.

Saw de Silva bat an over or two. This guy looks another quality player. Jayasuriya should be getting paid 10x the normal amount because he definitely knows what he's doing.
 
Brilliant knock from Mendis but needs to keep going. Will be up against the new ball from the get go tomorrow but the wicket is still decent so will need 250+ to make a game of it.
 
Mendis was a clear talent even during the u19 days. It was only a matter of time before he would get a call up with the retirements of Sanga and Mahela. It's not like we have a ton of quality bats to choose from anyways.
 
SL needs to add another 50-60 runs here. A brilliant come back here. Good to see.
