What's new

Sri Lanka beat Australia by 106 runs in the 1st Test

I feel SRL already has enough, but definitely 50-60 more would be handy. AUS scores quickly & they have Strack at 9, therefore anything under 200 actually is not safe. But, I watched morning sessions of 1st 2 days & last half of Day 3 - the wicket is crumbling & after tomorrow's rolling, I don't think top surface'll last for 4th innings. In 1st Innings, there was not much turn, ball was skidding; yet both the spinners managed to restrict AUS for 200. I think, from now on, ball'll turn sharp, with uneven bounce & few balls should stop on drive. SRL's last wicket (Lyon's 200th) was due to the ball gripping on surface & stopping on drive. AUS must strike with 2nd ball, but that gives SRL option to add 40-50 quick runs as the ball should come on to bat.

I think, it'll take a YK like effort to win it for AUS, even now; but I back one of the spinners to get a 10 wicket match, in an winning effort.

Wow that must be SOME innings by Mendis

Worth catching the highlights for it

Reminiscent of Chandimal against India last year

That was very good batting, good on selectors to make him bat at number 3. Awkward moment when you realize that Tharanga had 7 centuries by this age .

Lyon is a great offie.

The world will remember him as a bowler who was much greater than his stats.

However needs to improve on Asian tracks with less bounce where his team depends on him to finish off games.

Great is a major exaggeration

Fantastic knock by Kusal Mendis...with him, the other Kusal, Chandimal and Matthews, SL have a decent quartet to build their batting around. The future certainly looks brighter than it did just yesterday for the Lankans.

They need better openers honestly. Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva aren't really that good averaging 34 and 31 respectively.

They are best suitable openers for SL. Not saying they are great, but they are the only options for SL. Rest are either talented hacks or just not good enough. So SL has to work with these two. SL players learn all their cricketing knowledge once they make it to the senior side unlike other teams, so will take them time before "improving".

Yeah, it's more like the same situation with Pakistan. Openers not that good but no better options either.

Kusal Mendis has perfect techniques. Batsmen never got him out from what I've seen, he always threw they away. Hope he doesn't become another Tharanga.

How about Sandakan bruh? Looks a dirty bowler.

He is a Wrist Spinner, hard to rate him by watching him play just one inning. Wrist Spinners will look untouchable one day and then look like a street cricketer got into the team through political connections i.e Bishoo and Jubair Hossain.

I'm liking what I see. Has all the tools. Control, flight, turns both ways and has a straighter one. Looks a slick bowler.

They are not bad, actually very good prospect in making. One is just 28 & the other 30; so I guess they can play for best part of a decade. A left right combination & remarkably similar FC stats, both averaging around 46.7; which is very good. Kaushal is a back-up WK while Dimuth is very good catcher. And, none are regular LO player, which should help them focusing on Test career. I think, that average of early 30s can easily move to late 30s or even 40s in couple of years time.

Batting actually is not a problem, hardly would be. This guy Mendis looks a wonderful prospect & Ford has made him bat at 3. Dhananjaya is a good prospect as batting all-rounder, while Jayasundera, Roshen Silva, Priyanjan, Bhanuka are excellent back-ups, that guy Bhanuka . I think, in a couple of years time, SRL should have as good a batting line up as India among Asian sides. One of the advantage for SRL is there are couple of excellent young players who actually can keep very well. Bigger concern is the match winning spinners & biggest concern is a pair of new ball bowlers.

Ford is a fantastic Head Coach & the young team looks very good. I do think that SRL'll make a quick turn around in couple of years time.

Still, 190 overs possible in the game, so, I guess couple of sessions rain is covered, for a direct result.

Sri Lanka have done enough to win this.

Smith needs to cop the blame in particular for his dismissal.

England, Australia, India, Banglasesh - Star Sports
Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Pakistan - Ten sports
New Zealand - No takers

Hope I answered your question. :P run-out

Was catching some action and its frustrating to lose time to rain. But this is a test match that affords enough material for long discussions during the rain breaks.

I think Sri Lankans are favourites from here but they haven't yet runaway with the game. The pitch has plenty of turn on offer but the bounce is even so Aussies are in with a shout.

SL who were being regarded as minnows some time back are fighting back, great sight to see.

Herath the destroyer is too damn good.

Anytime for Mamoon to come here to post. Warner failed twice

Aussies being over aggressive here could be there downfall but i guess they are trying to make sure the SL bowlers dont settle into any rhythm, should be a good run chase.

Is it to curb the run flow?

Maybe it can work with Aus who like to attack always.

But still....why not attack from over the wicket?

What's with these negative lines. Give Mathew 500 to defend in the 4th innings and he'll still push the field back and go with this rubbish. Absolutely hopeless this guy. Pathetic.

Still a decent wicket it doesn't look like breaking up any more than this. Oz are definitely not out of it by any means. He clearly didn't get the message even after what went down in Sharjah. Play proper cricket.

Beauty that one. Advantage of a wrist spinner.

Perera could bowl over the wicket, flight it outside off and on stumps and bring in lbw, caught and bowled into picture.

But he goes around the wicket....and bowls on the pads....

Smith is the key wicket here. Got to go to work in a bit would love to watch the rest of this game. Hopefully tommorow is a full day and close game.

99.9% sure that's not his doing tho. Herath started bowling the same lines that too in tandem :))) Batsmen play a few shots and that seems to be Mathews' answer even when on top. Genius.

SL at home seems tough to beat. Our win last year can't be ignored especially considering Sanga was also playing then :O

Mathews should prevent the singles here. Hopefully the rain stays away.

Does anyone know for the next 2 tests where they are and the chance of rain at them venues?

Lanka looking good here,if this continues Aus could add another Asian thrashing to their existing list.

This doesn't change the fact that our lot are still minnowesque. It's just one top knock and some shoddy batting from Oz.

Smith is the key. If Lankans get him I think they will win. Smith will be determined to get a big score after his poor shot in the 1st innings

Smith, Root, and Kohli whenever they fail they come back with a vengeance and determination to come back. It's like failure hurts them more than others.
