The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could be monitoring potentially rescheduling the matches for Sri Lanka’s Tour of India, which is slated to take place in February.

India is scheduled to play 2 T20Is and 3 Tests, starting from February 25th soon after the Windies Series at home.

The Sri Lankan Board has requested BCCI to shift the T20I series before the Test matches so that it’ll be convenient for the Sri Lankan team to send a squad which will already be in a bubble as the Lankan Lions would be in Australia for a T20I series.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has requested BCCI to play the T20I series first instead of the Test matches. The Sri Lankan team will be playing a T20I series against Australia before coming to India. It will convenient for them to send a team which will be already in a bubble,” a BCCI official said to Times of India.

BCCI has already made a change in the venues to the West Indies series in order to stop bio-bubble breaches, limiting the venues to 2 from 6 selected venues. The chosen venues are Ahmedabad and Kolkata.

Due to rising cases in the country, the board will be taking a call on the Ranji trophy in the upcoming 10-14 days.

”It will take a month to finish the league stage but the number of Covid-19 cases have to fall drastically. Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata seem to have gone past their peak. We will monitor the situation for another 10-14 days,” the BCCI Official told.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to play a day-night Test against Sri Lanka as part of the home series, which comprises three T20Is followed by two Test matches forming the part of the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship 2021-23.

According to a report in the Times of India, the board is interested to host the day-night fixture in Bengaluru despite the number of daily COVID-19 cases hovering around 8000-9000, accounting for more than 40 percent cases of Karnataka state.

The BCCI is likely to start the tour with the T20Is now, as earlier the Test matches were slated to be held first. The three T20Is will then be followed by the two Test matches for ease in transfer from one bio-bubble to another.

The report mentioned that the BCCI is planning to host the first part of the tour in Dharamshala and Mohali, followed by the pink-ball game in Bengaluru to sign off the home season before the 15th edition of the IPL. The board is contemplating hosting the first two T20Is in Dharamshala, followed by the third T20 and the first Test in Mohali.

"There is a chance that the first two T20Is to start the tour will be played in Dharamshala before the series moves to Mohali for the third T20I and the first Test. Lucknow may miss out on hosting a T20I. Having the pink ball Test in Mohali is difficult since dew is expected to play a big role. However, BCCI is still monitoring the Covid-19 situation in the country. A final call to tweak the schedule will be taken soon," a BCCI source told TOI.

The tentative schedule could mean that former skipper Virat Kohli will play his 100th Test at the PCA Stadium in Mohali and not in Bengaluru, the home ground of his IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore.

This will be Team India's fourth day-night Test and third at home. India last played a pink-ball Test against England at home in Ahmedabad in February 2021, which was completed inside two days with the hosts winning the game by 10 wickets. India beat Bangladesh in their inaugural day-night Test in Kolkata in November 2019, while their only loss came against Australia in Adelaide in 2020.

Team India's busy 2021/22 season will end next month with the country hosting Sri Lanka in a Test and T20I series. While Rohit Sharma will be continuing as the T20I captain, the BCCI is yet to confirm the next Test captain. The post is vacant since the day Virat Kohli stepped down.

Rohit is a strong contender to take over the job but KL Rahul is also a frontrunner to replace Kohli. It is sort of confirmed that either of these two will be taking over the charge in the red-ball cricket as there are no other contenders in the race.

The BCCI is expected to unveil the next Test captain when it announces the squad for the series. Apart from announcing the Test captain, the selection committee looks set to revamp the squad.

There are reports that as many as 4 players will not be part of the Test squad for the Sri Lanka series. As per The Times of India, Ishant Sharma, the only player in the present side with 100 Test caps, could be dropped along with Wriddhiman Saha. The report adds that the team management is laying out a plan to move on from Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara too.

Both Ishant and Saha travelled to South Africa but didn't get a game. Interestingly, both the players have decided against playing Ranji Trophy, which does hint at something. As per TOI, they have been spoken about their respective futures by the team management and selectors.

The report adds that Rahane and Pujara have been put on notice. With them playing Ranji Trophy, the door is ajar for the middle-order batters but they will have to return to form in domestic cricket.

They were backed to the hilt in SA and played all three matches. But neither of the two could do well. Rahane, who lost the vice-captaincy to Rohit before the start of the tour, scored 136 runs while Pujara managed 124 runs.

Rahane will be playing for Mumbai under Prithvi Shaw whereas Pujara will represent defending champions, Saurashtra. Jaydev Unadkat will lead Saurashtra in the tournament.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced a new schedule for India's upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.

The tour was supposed to start with the two-match Test, but now will begin with T20Is, with the first match being played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on 24 February. The second and third T20Is will take place in Dharamsala on 26 and 27 February.

Following the T20I series, the teams will play two Tests, which form a part of the 2021-23 ICC World Test Championship cycle. Mohali will host the first Test from 4 to 8 March, while the second Test will be played in Bengaluru from 12 to 16 March.

The first Test will be former captain Virat Kohli's 100th Test match, while the second Test will be a day/night affair.

1st T20I: 24 February, Lucknow

2nd T20I: 26 February, Dharamsala

3rd T20I: 27 February, Dharamsala

India pacer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 International series against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury. The in-form bowler had suffered the injury during the third T20 International against West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday.

"He is ruled out of the series and will complete his rehab at NCA," said a BCCI official.

It remains to be seen if Chahar will be fit for the IPL which is expected to begin in the last week of March. "The team has sought no replacement as vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah is already in the side," the official added. The T20 International series against Sri Lanka begins in Lucknow on Thursday.

Deepak hurt his quad while bowling against the West Indies, while Suryakumar was unlucky to suffer a hairline fracture while fielding during the same match.

India's 3-0 clean sweep over the West Indies catapulted them above England to become the top ranked T20 team in the world, but they will need to defeat Sri Lanka to hang on to that ranking.

Maheesh Theekshana will return home, whilst Wanindu Hasaranga also will return home from Australia.

India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Gaikwad, 25, had complained of pain in his right wrist joint before the first T20I in Lucknow.

He was later examined by the BCCI Medical Team and an MRI scan, followed by a specialist consultation deemed him unfit for the rest of the series. He will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for management of his injury.

The Selection Committee has drafted Mayank Agarwal for the final two T20Is in place of Gaikwad and the batter has already joined the squad in Dharamsala.

The second T20I will take place on Saturday, 26 February and the third T20I will be played on Sunday, 27 February.
