Quite amazing that we are yet to take 5 or 6 wickets. Finn has been venomous and Anderson, Bresnan and Swann have been solid. I am sure the rewards will come.

100 for MJ

When he scores , most of the time he makes it big. :D

they are showing way too much respect for samit patel. not saying they should go sehwag on him but he is not bowling anything threatening at all.

Mahela lbw b Swann 105 79.2 ovs

Beautiful delivery, finally Swann gets it right, massive wicket now let's take the new ball and rip them out

Hi Whipster!!

So you've changed your name? One of the benifits of bieng a Mod here:P

@ Topic:- Good delivery by Swann. But a bit too late i guess.

Not too late for England at all, this is a pancake.

And my new username is my real name

P.Jaya (7) caught behind off Finn, 227/6

England on top with the tail breached

Really flat pitch, only time to get quick wickets is with the new ball

Ok. So Congrats on ending the losing streak:)

On a serious note, I feel that the pitch may play differently from the third day onwards. So England has to get the SL tail out of the way by tomorrow first session, bat well for 4-5 sessions, and try at avoid batting again in the match.

Agreed, hopefully we will finally see a good batting performance

Well i read england has never lost when Bresnan played. Lets see.

Advantage England at EOD.

England made a mistake not including panesar in my opinion. Finn bowled well today, but England need to get into that subcontinent mindset. 2 spinners is a more risky strategy here in my opinion, they could run through the side or they won't pick up many wickets. Disappointed they just went back to the same 3 pacers strategy. Panesar and Swann together so far have done a good job in the UAE and Asia so far. Deserved to be persisted with.

This pitch is flattish at the moment and it's going to be difficult to pick up wickets, spinners and pacers. Even if you're bowling well (which the english are). In the second innings, it's going to become better for spinners which is when I feel England will regret not choosing an extra spinner.

Seems another intriguing test match.

I don't like the selection from England. They should have gone with Bopara having 6 proper batsmen then Prior. England's bowling is pretty good, well good enough to bowl out Sri Lanka twice for par scores.

After day 1 the game is evens for me. If Lanka get over 300 they will have a decent first innings scores. There is no way Kumar Sangakarra will miss out again in the 3rd innings so I think England need to bat the best they have done all winter to get themselves into any sort of winning position.

Have to say Jimmy Anderson has very good all winter, his critics who think he is a green track bully will need to re-think this now.

After day 1 50-50

Hopefully England haven't let this slip out of there hands too.

Keep taking wickets, although Matthews is good with the tail.

SL needs atleast 325 to make a match of this.Eng will bat well i think

Anything under 300 is excellent by England on this flat wicket. Only seamers are doing well. Finn deserved another wicket or two. Anderson's reverse swinging spell was brilliant, Strauss should have taken Jaya then.

England haven't batted well throughout the last 2 months. If SL score anything above 320, it'll be tough for them.

256 in the 4th innings at Galle was a decent effort. No team has scored more than 96 to win a test match there. This will perhaps translate to a competitive 1st innings score from England here...

...we hope... :|

If Sri Lanka score over 300 I think it will than be tough as England will need to bat last unless they pile up a mammoth total in 1st innings.

Imo it's not a flat pitch but one which offers plenty to both seamers and spinners. The new ball provides some movement, a bit of swing ,plenty of bounce and reverse swing with the old ball. There is also signs of inconsistent bounce. Swann found spin and bounce all this on day 1. Flat pitches in Asia provide no help to the bowler until day 4/5. Sri Lanka's spinners will be looking to once against get on top of England.

Will be interested to see who scores in the English line up. Trott on evidence of last game seems to finally have adapted his game for the subcontinent. His image would say otherwise but he's quite good at employing different strategies for different situations, remember how he changed to face Asif (and was pretty successful at it).

Bell has the shots and the game to succeed in the subcontinent. It'll be all down to his mental strength as usual. No mystery spinners either, so Bell doesn't really have any excuses.

Cook, Strauss, KP don't strike me as having natural games to do well in the subcontinent. They could do well, and they're good enough players to do well, but their games seem more suited to non-subcontinent conditions.

Prior I'm not really sure. Think he's ok.

Think it will be Trott and Cook that'll do well. Cook will be very vulnerable early on, but for some reason seems to be able to power through and keep his concentration despite his flaws.

Swann needs to start doing the business in the 1st innings.

England cannot afford that to happen, especially with Monty not playing.

England tour of Sri Lanka, 2nd Test: Sri Lanka v England at Colombo. Apr 3-7, Day 2

Good Morning , Anderson to start first over... maiden by Anderson

SL's RR is almost Pakistan like..

Did they learn from Misbah and co at UAE?

Anyways, ENG should try to get the remaining wickets before lunch.

The key for SL would be to see the pitch take turn ...... that would be best chance for SL.

Whats the logic behind coming out to play just 4 overs? Couldn't they just take early lunch? Mind boggling stuff.

Only Sri Lanka... Two opening bowlers that average over 55. Ridiculous. Drop them forever already.

Good performance from Swann, changed the game last night and again this morning. Back in form.

I wonder if we will get a rare first innings lead :(

they must, because batting 4th even 230 would be tricky.its a good opportunity.but the pitch has started taking turn

Srilanka missing a trick of not having a spinner early on in the innings. Both players are probably the worst players of spin bowling at the moment in English side.
