I think YK wants to give a target of 500 so that he can have an all out attack with his 2 spinners all the time 5 session...(2 slips, forward gully, silling point, forward short leg)....

Pointless except that it keeps Sri Lanka guessing still.

Pitch must be pretty easy going if Aamer is hitting sixes.

Talha: "I think Younis is just trying to play on the minds of the Sri Lankans by bringing them back on the field in the heat & then later they'll hav to pad up quickly to face the music. Not a bad ploy i would say!"

Still doesn't make any sense to me either.

Stupid decision by YK to bat on after lunch, how many runs can 10&11 score???
They can only waste some time but that will only help Sri Lanka, very stupid and defensive decision by Younis Khan.

There was no need to continue batting after lunch.
Drag them back onto the field, in the heat. Tired limbs and tired minds. Declare 10-15 mins later, and drag them back off the field.

No need to declare at lunch and allow them to put their feet up and prepare mentally to bat.

The options were to either declare before lunch and have 2-3 overs at them, or after lunch when they've been on the field for another couple of overs.

We actually wasted 15 minutes for no reason, Lankan batsmen were mentally ready to come back and bat so nothing really has changed.

Hopefully we can wrap it up today.

no it isnt you make their openers come out in the fieldithen have to go back and get into kit its annoying can get you a wicket
plus it shows our bowlers if you dont get them out you will have to bowl on this pitch for 2 days think about it ;-)

remember Sri Lanka are batting last and batting on a 5 day on any sri lankan pitch is not eash if you are going to face 2 spinners with attacking fielding positions

you are absolutely spot on......At lunch sirlankan openers were mentally ready to bat....having them in the field for 2 to 3 overs just to disturb the mental approach.....good captaincy....

Makes a big difference to a batsman when you go into a break knowing you'll come out to bat. Having to come back onto the field, and then scurry off to pad up is completely different.

It's a mental game.

We still have enough time to bowl out srilanka ( 5 sessions)...if we are unable to do so we don't deserve to win...

Bohat time hai bhai.

What has been the highest score by any team in this tournament up to now.

Umar Gul is rubbish with the new ball

sorry to keep repeating the point but he keeps being rubbish with the new ball, couldn't Younus open bowling?

Gul going at 14 an over so far !

this could be the most humiliating loss ever !

sparked by a 'bowling collapse' rather than a 'batting collapse'

I remember the story about Mark Taylor (think it was MT) going into lunch with a massive lead and spying Atherton in the other dressing room with his pads on because they assumed he would declare. So he kept batting for another 45 minutes.

But if nearly 5 sessions on a 4th and 5th day Sri Lankan wicket is not enough time to bowl them out then you don't deserve to win.

Younis uses the new ball better than Umar gul....certainly...
he should get in couple of overs......

Pakistan's highest score is 425 and SL's 292. I don't think SLs can make more than 350 runs in this inning.

he did take a wicket of the first ball in the first innings...

and pak has not win a match yet...... isn't it strange and terrible???? :pissed:

it speaks of the quality of our bowlling attack.....

i think otherwise..... Pakistan dominated in every match(in first two matches of this series) with one innings only.....and they SL dominated when it mattered most both with bat and ball..... :13:

Interesting. I would have thought such a ploy was more Waugh-esque, but Taylor was one hard-nosed Aussie as well. Many rate him better than Waugh as a skipper. What's your take?

Taylor was a much better captain in my opinion. The side was not as strong and he took us to the top. Waugh had a ridiculously good side and the only decision he usually had to make was when to declare and how many fielders to put around the bat.

When people talk about good captains having an ability to read the game I think of Taylor. Didn't really rate his batting and hate his commentary though.

khuraam manzoor in slips, think he will drop a catch if someone edges it to him

Gul is a disaster zone with the new ball. Hopefully he can do something with the old ball but Younus Khan is more at fault here for persisting with a guy who admits he is rubbish with the new ball

Finally Younus brings himself on and beats the bat

he want Gul to rough the pitch from one end first

Wait for a drinks break and do the Afridi dance when nobody is looking

well two things come out of this already,

1. good job we set a high total and did not declare too early
2. wicket seems to have slowed down (although i am not watching the game so perhaps someone else can confirm this for me?)

plenty of time left though to take 10 wickets so absolutely no need to panic (yet!).

SL's highest partnership in the series so far, they haven't really batted a great deal better than us in this series, just enough to get by.

Pakistan ideally need a wicket before tea and just need to keep chipping away once they get a break through

Let's have a spin-all-out attack. Pace is useless on this.

Kaneria.
Ajmal.
Fawad.
Malik.

Well Gul might get his act together with the old ball, he's been really poor this series apart from a couple of good spells in the 1st innings of the last test.

spinners should be ready for the long haul.

That's what i have been saying, Lankans are lucky to win the series. Their batting is below average but our AMAZING collapses made them look better than they really are.

That's the problem Waseem, their batting is indeed below average, unfortunately ours is slightly more so.

Danish Kaneria to Warnapura, OUT, he's given him! Gould raises his finger immediately after Warnapura got front and across and tried to turn it fine, it clipped his pads and went through to Malik at leg slip. There didn't appear to be any contact with the bat there, the appeal was spontaneous and the umpire answered in the affirmative. Tough call. Clipped the back of the pads, and Malik took it really low down.

BSM Warnapura c Shoaib Malik b Danish Kaneria 31 (81b 3x4 0x6) SR: 38.27

Finally a break through. hopefully Kaneria can take a few more here!
