374 wickets

Dale Steyn has now gone past Waqar Younis' tally of 373 Test wickets. Next in line is Malcolm Marshall's 376

That didn't even look it like it hit his glove and the SA commentator sounded pathetic for trying to make it look like it did.

SL is in very strong position but it was expected when you are ahead by 150 runs in first inning. Easy time for all batsmen. Simply play quickly and make 200 odd runs in two session and then attack SA.

Only one team was trying to win this game from the start. I think playing so defensively and not scoring any runs made it easy for SL to be always ahead and attack.

Sri Lanka lead by 247 runs with 7 wickets remaining

Lunch

Lanka would be happy so far. They need to get runs quickly nest session and put SA back in.

Has Philtamperer been hit out of the attack or is he being held in reserve in case they need to make the ball go Irish later on?

Meduri: "I think this series is curtains for Tahir's test career. When he can't take wickets on spin friendly track, where on earth can he?"

Interesting comment on cricinfo

lead closing on the 300 mark here , with seven wickets in hand , lanka should really go after the bowling here.

I think they have enough. They should just declare while it's dark and overcast I reckon they could snaffle a few Jaapie wickets before stumps

Saffers will go for it unless they lose 1/3 of their side very cheaply.

They won't go for it, as we are seeing and this will be their downfall, because they can't bat 160+ overs (spinners will bowl that many) without getting out.

Matthews is one underrated batsman. Averaging over 50 at his age is no joke. But still Sri Lanka will find it a tough ask to beat my South African team.

I stand corrected. Don't know they're doing this though. Either they realize that they are very poor against spin or are trying to minimize damage today and go hard at the Lankans tomorrow.

Bringing De Kock up the order is a good move though. Saves him from a pressure situation and allows Faf to come in at #6 as the insurance.

This pitch is turning square. Amla and de Villiers will have to play the knocks of their lives to save this one.

Quinton is looking to be positive which is a good sign.

Mathews is too defensive a captain. They did not need 350+ for victory IMO.
SA batting for just 17 overs on day 4 is beyond pathetic.
With rain forecast tomorrow and SA's ability to stone wall one would have thought Lanka would give them at least 30 overs (26 minimum) on day 4.
Dare I say thanks for the draw? Either way poor captaincy

More than 20 overs were lost due to rain and bad light, think SA got lucky today, pitch is turning square off the rough and the line of wicket. SA could be bundled out by lunch tomorrow.

Quinton is sent in as collateral, which is a good tactic.
Send him upfront and let him play his natural game. Don't think he has the ability yet to knuckle down and save a test match. So no point in keeping him down the order.
If he gets going (which is highly unlikely) SA could even contemplate chasing the target.

Which makes setting 360 even shocking when you need to win the game to level the series with rain on the cards on day 5. Poor captaincy.

There is 90% chance of Thunderstorm tomorrow WTFFF. Spinners won't be able to grip the wet ball properly.

To late a declaration from Mathews when you need to force a win. SL can still win but he is back to his usual defensive leadership.

BD then Eng and now SA. Eng is scoring runs for a change, don't dump them.

actually when he support BD, their performance downward after that.. England too faced similar fate when he supporting them.. Now he's trying to jinx South Africa..

If Quinton can get going and stay there for 25-30 overs then it will become very interesting.

Any Srilankan residents here? Accuweather.com predicts clear skies, (prediction coming as of 5 am). If that happens, it should be a cracker, and Lanka will clean them up by tea unless De Kock or De Villiers decides to play cricket and gets going.

What about Amla's captaincy in this match?

Pretty generic in this match. The only surprising move was moving Quinton up the order.

Can't blame him for the poor showing from the bowlers.

Damn rain! No rain when we are in a bit of bother even when it's forecasted but you can count on it to show up to screw us over.

Ridiculous how play was stopped early yday as well when just the spinners were operating. More than 20 overs lost there.
