Lets be honest here, the whole stadium repairing going on has been a massive Project Failure by PCB.

Hosting rights were given to PCB well in advance and the budget for stadium repairs were also given in advance as well. PCB should not have been completing the repairs by now. If someone is to bring up Nassau county stadium that was because the goal was to make a temporary stadium which is why they delayed it their.

PCB was suppose to fix the Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore Stadium. Meanwhile plans were to construct another stadium aswell in Islamabad or some other city of Punjab. Roofs were also planned for the stadiums aswell.

Ideally, they should had done all this before the Asia Cup which Pakistan was hosting and be ready for the ICC Champions Trophy. But the army and govt had other plans and in their political instability caused a massive delay in this project.

Almost all of the budget allocated has been wasted on Gadaffi Stadium. Plus, I am pretty sure ICC doesnt give out money to make your boards office which PCB seems to be doing currently. They are renovating their own office. The roof is not gonna be installed, and only a Lahori poster can tell us whats the parking situation at Gadaffi stadium.

New chairs, new stands, new screens and new flood lights have been installed there.

Meanwhile in Karachi, once they figure that the whole budget was being spent in lahore as they needed to employ more labor they stopped the work in Karachi. They had promised a new stand and a roof there and a trench but now nothing is being done there. The only thing they are doing is making a new media box/corporate box thats it. Catering the VIPs.

Than there is Rawalpindi. In Rawalpindi they decided to to install the old chairs of Gadaffi Stadium. No roof is gonna be installed. They didnt even bother to increase the stands at this 15k stadium. Parking is non existent as PCB doesnt want to stop the money it makes by giving its spaces to the restaurants.

Meanwhile no new stadium was made in Islamabad or any other city in Punjab. Also, for those of you who do not know this, Wahab Riaz had the Sialkot stadium demolished in Sialkot and they never did nay work on it later. So they also destroyed a somewhat working stadium.

The Lahore Stadium will turn out to be good at the end of the day, but remember that all the budget was allocated on it. Also i know many posters will say that the rest of the projects are promised in Phase 2 which is after the Champions trophy, this is Pakistan. Once the Champions trophy is over, the money goes in the pockets and there isnt going to be a phase 2. The whole purpose of the stadium rebuilt was to get it ready for ICC tournament, not for some series afterwards.

These guys have spent all the money on Gadaffi, and dont have funds for a phase 2 repair. The only chance they have if the govt allocates a budget in July than maybe phase 2 might get start

The sub-continent has no idea how to build, maintain or repair infrastructure.

At best, they'll do a hodge-podge job as you've described above. And all of it at the last minute.

Looking forward to seeing the semi-final in Lahore. Hopefully Pakistan make it. The upgrades they have made to that stadium will definitely enhance the fan experience. But I get your point. Personally, I think as Pakistani fans you gotta take what you can get. It's all about money at the end of the day, which we don't have much of.

Can't say I'll be going to Pindi Stadium to watch Pakistan v Bangladesh. The stadium still looks pretty decrepit and I have no interest in walking 2 km among a massive crowd of people and being harassed by the police multiple times just to sit on those broken down Byzantine era chairs. I see they are building hospitality boxes behind the seats, which is something I guess. But I imagine they will be very expensive and won't add much from a viewing experience POV.

National Stadium is the worst of all though. It still looks like a stadium from the 1970s. All they did was build a new building for dressing rooms and hospitality boxes. The rest of the stadium still looks utterly awful.

Don't count india . India has atleast 20+ World class cricket stadium.

Is the 2km walk also in place for gaddafi and karachi or is this a speciality reserved for pindi?

Yeah but in GSL atleast the stadium and viewing experience will be far better now. In Pindi, nothing has changed.

So building a trench is all about World class quality??

And india does have trench in some stadiums .
Where did i said that. You suffer from inferiority complex that a thread where im criticizing Pakistan you got insecure and turning it in an india vs pakistan thread.

You made a very odd statement that India has 20+ world class stadiums, yet you have to watch games behind a fence. If being treated like garbage is world class in your defination than i wont argue.

Anyways, this thread isnt about about your oh look we indians are great. If you are going to post such rubbish than offcourse i will retaliate with facts like fences being installed

Public comfort and customer satisfaction doesn't really come into consideration in Pakistan. The stadium experience for actual viewers in the ground is secondary to how the bureaucrats experience is and how the ground will look on TV. So the initial design intent is usually flawed because no matter how good it may look, the end user experience is usually a difficult one especially for women and children.

Secondly, things like budget, project plan, project milestones, delivery timelines, lead times etc are non existent in Pakistan and things only really go close to plan if their is foreign intervention in the project. Otherwise, whenever the construction company feels like delivering, well that is the official hand over date and the official plans are used to wipe up tea spills in the canteen kitchen

First world problems. I have attended matches in NZ, Australia and the UK. No stadiums in the city have parking. So parking being non existent in Rawalpindi is not unnatural since the stadium is in the heart of the city.

The only thing I agree with is the neglect that Karachi got.

I think Pindi provides the best viewing experience in all of the stadiums in Pakistan. So definitely reconsider your decision. I can’t give figures but it was the closest I felt to the ground than any of the other stadia.

Been to Pindi numerous times and I don't agree. The chairs are awfully uncomfortable, you still have the grill infront. And if you are on the right and left enclosures, until recently you had to sit on wedding chairs. When I went to see the Sri Lanka test in 2019, they didn't even have those, you had to sit on the steps.

But they have public transport right? And they also dont have 2 km 10 police check posts aswell.

Pindi stadium does have space, they ended up renting that space to a food street. VVIPs are often given parking next to the stadium in pindi.

Yeah they have public transport and usually the stadiums are in convenient areas.

For Pakistan parking will be difficult as there is not space near the grounds and it will make security even more complex. Instead the
PCB should arrange buses after security checkpoint to transport fans to the ground and back even if it's a short distance it can be helpful to elderly fans and kids.

Bus system is there. Basically the parking is 5 to 7 km away in Pindi, we park there and than PCB runs a bus from there to a 2km off the stadium. Than from there we walk 2km into the stadium. Still i feel a Parking plaza should be built near the stadium.

There is park infront of the stadium, either buy land from there (which is a bad idea), or there is a poor quality wonderland that PCB should buy and build a 15k vehicle parking plaze and allocate the wonderland rides area inside the perimeter of the stadium that can be used even during matches to make the experience more fun for families with children.

Issue i think is PCB wants to build a stadium in Islamabad, which is why they just dont wana spend a dime on Pindi stadium and plans are to stop using it eventually.

Bro, Pindi doesn't have public transport? There is literally the Metro bus stop which is a 10 minute walk from the stadium or the entry. I used that when I went or I used a Careem which costs peanuts. The situation is the same internationally where you use similar forms of public transportation to get to the venue. With the utmost respect, my friend, you will find that no stadium in the developed world has parking or a train that takes you straight to the stands.

Yep chairs aren't the most comfortable. In fact, I went in 2022 and it wasn't even chairs just a concrete slab but the actual VIEWING experience and the view of the pitch was great.

I'm not that bothered about the quality of chairs because I attended matches in New Zealand, for instance at Mount Maunganui and there weren't even any chairs to begin with. You just had to sit on the grass. Everyone was having fun anyway. I still had a great time. I feel like our standards are often far too high.

brother, on match day they shut down the metro and that stop. THe situation is not the same

Bro this ain't Mount Maunganui. You have those massive jail bars Infront of the seats that obscure the view considerably and all types of unsavory individuals in the crowd who make you think twice before taking women to these games. These stadiums were constructed for the 1996 WC and have not seen any significant upgrade since then. You say our standards are too high? I would say that our standards are too low. Every country in the world has an infinitely better experience for fans at the stadiums. I would even take grass banks over these decades old seats.

And don't even get me started on how painful it is to actually get inside the stadium.

The way things move around here, I imagine it will be completed by 2060.

They first intended to build a stadium in Shakarparian but from what I recall there was a land-related issue and the Supreme Court put the kibosh on it.

I don’t know man, I guess I just grew up in a Pakistan where we didn’t have any cricket whatsoever so I began to appreciate the little that we did get.

I agree with what you’re saying though. We could do better but we punch above our weight with what we do actually manage to get done given everything our country has been through in the last 20 odd years.

I was some YouTube clip of some vlogger and he said he isn't allowed to film inside the Gaddafi stadium by the PCB. Something isn't right.

There is plenty of footage going around of the redevelopment work. There's a page on Instagram called: pakistan cricket stadiums. They pretty much post daily updates of the redevelopment work.

Let's be real, they're all subpar. Sub-continent class. Not world-class.

It’s what our fans deserve.
These people don’t deserve an Intuit Dome, a SoFi , Mercedes Benz, Optus stadiums level infrastructure. For their level our current new stadiums are actually an upgrade.

MenInG has also raised this point in the past that after a decade of PSL, why is there no visible upgradations in the stadiums. Some of these stadiums are so old in an ideal world they have to be rebuilt but given the economic situation of the country it’s understandable if ambitious big investments are delayed. However bare minimum upgradations should have been done timely. No doubt all we have been hearing about is the Gaddafi stadium, Pakistan has other stadiums too, they should also get the funds.

This was some guy in YouTube. He said they were struggling to finish for ICC inspection date

PCB does not believe in infrastructure development, in the head of organisation is a political appointment knowing he will have no accountability , there on the agenda of snatch & run

One reason that we didn't see too much upgradation in the stadiums in the last decade is the attack on the Sri Lanka team. After that attack the priorities were changed very considerably and there was no international cricket played in Pakistan. This is the first ICC tournament after that incident and we are now seeing big updgradations now. With less than a month remaining in the start of the Champoins Tophy, these updgradations must have been completed now but we hope that everything will be done and stadiums will be fully ready before ICC inspection date.

Why is PCB being biased towards Lahore stadium? Why are other stadiums not getting any love

I cringed so hard since it was the first Test in Pakistan for nearly 10 years, and that's the image we transmit to the world.

But of course there was enough money for a new media box.

There used to be a good rotation policy. But doesn't ICC regs mandate players stay in 5 star hotels for international series ? Not sure if all those grounds have one close by.

They don't give a damn about the fans. All they care about is PR, making themselves look good and impressing the 'goras'.

Particularly about the normal fans who sits in the general enclosures. Not a great view for them and not great seats. Hopefully, things will get better after these upgradation work.
