Dont know if that specific cricteria exists.
They can always start new or sell television rights to other channel
Like DSPORT uses reliance owned channel for Hindi commentary during Nidahas trophy
Hope it is not DSPORT who will showcase Indian matches on television if Reliance didn't start new television channel

STAR now has complete monopoly on Indian cricket plus ICC.
As per Junaids BCCI cant survive without ICC money, didnt he say that before ? Ohhh Myyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
944 mrs 6138.1 crore equal to how many million dollors?
Usd 944 mnRs 6138.1 crore equal to how many million dollors?
Usd 944 mn
60 crore indian rupees per match.
About 100 crore pak rupees per match.
Insane figures.
If something fishy happens Star will be bankrupted
yes not sure how Star will recover the money with so much media piracy going on. I suppose it will be through AD revenue.
Anyone else know how they will recover the money and make a profit?
It's mainly ads imo. Not sure if any other source of revenue. cricketjoshila

Who are the broadcasters for India's away tours?
Who are the broadcasters for India's away tours?
Depends.
Sony will broadcast majority of away tours of India as they have got broadcasting rights of Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, West Indies.
Star has got broadcasting rights for England, Bangladesh and New Zealand.
yep, pretty big indian diaspora around the world and a lot of them will subscribe to watch on their devicesDigital rights is the big seller. Online streaming services will be a big revenue generator. USA the 4th largest revenue market in cricket will be the sizable source of revenue outside India.
England, Aus, SA, WI, SL are all with Sony
NZ and BD with Star
Sony also has rights for all cricket in UAE.

Thank you guys.
So except for NZ and BD which is with Star, it's Sony all the way.
Who are the broadcasters for India's away tours?
Our away tours to England and Australia are both with Sony this time.
Sony has the rights to broadcast matches from SA/ZIM/SL/OZ/ENG/WI/PAK in India. STAR has the rights for NZ and BD. So it depends where we are touring.
Sony LIV and Hotstar subscription must remain active.
Glad Star bought IPL rights. Sony's Extra Innings made me wanna cry.
Cheerleaders inside a studio? Jokers.

I would have actually preferred it the other way round.Star generally do international cricket much better than Sony.
All set for IPL. This will be my first season of IPL since Sachin retired. And I'm supporting KKR since Joshila is one of my favorite posters, and I associate myself a lot with Bengali people. There are a hell lot of Bengali people in Assam.
Yeah but what does this do for me. Do I get less ads (actually at this price Star can just put all the ads as it wants). Does it reduce my cable cost. Whats it to me?
you are a bigger and better product nowbe ready to pay more directly or indirectly
Oh you bet. I have my waistline as a proof. Not so sure about the "pay more" though. I'm gonna take a stand and go basic package. Screw the cricket.
So how much does Star package cost? Back in days (2005-06) we just used to pay like Rs 250 and get all the channels on cable including Star network. Not sure how things work in India these days. It seems Indian network is also going Western way where you pay extra for channels and/or Pay-per view events.
I just received a message which says how much are we paying for cricket and how little we care about the farmers. We are getting away from what is basic i.e. food to focus more on entertainment.
Facebook would be the last company I deal with if I were the BCCI. Especially with the recently news [has been rumoured for some time...] about Cambridge Analytica.
What has farmers got to do with sports? Socialism isn India is a disease, people feel entitled to everything, subsidized loans, gas etc.

Until now it has been manageable but Star may form a package different from the usual package. Even that is not a problem. The amount of ads is already a lot. You may see a whole screen with ads and there may be some cricket in between. And the ads are a lot louder than the coverage.

Tata Sky DTH rates (India):
All Sports Pack:
Rs. 170 per month (approx. 3 $) - includes all channels from both STAR and SONY.
A La Carte: To subscribe individual channels it will cost around 60 to 75 rupees per channel (approx 1 $).
* Above rates are only for SD channels, to get HD channels need to pay Rs 175 (3 $) per month. This HD payment is applicable for all other HD entertainment channels as well.
So, still affordable in India ..Not as bad as AUS and UK insane subscription charges![]()
Let me get this right, in India a full subscription fee is $3 a month?
Our DSTV premium subscription fee (to all channels including Supersport channels) in SA is $62 a month.
How are Indian salaries in general?

Total monthly subscription around $10 per month![]()

All channels premium subscription for Tata Sky is 770inr thats about $12.
Btw this will cover only 1 tv. For additional tvs you pay more.
A typical household (which cares to watch and follow IPL) income would be around $6K to $7K. The problem with this comparison is that money goes much further in India. a billion dollar is lot of money in US but 6300 crore is much much larger amount of money in India. i have lots of cousins whose household income is around $8K to $9K who have their own house, car, two wheeler and a maid to work at home. $8K per household is just above the per capita income in India assuming an household of four people (typical in India). INR goes a long way even when compared to PKR and Taka as INR is stronger compared to neighboring economies
Lol, that's ridiculous. I'm reallocating to India soon.
What are the premiums like in the UK and Australia?
$8k, is that an annual figure?
How much would a GP make annually in India? (that would give me a better idea of India's middle threshold)
yes that is an annual figure.. GP, general practitioner, a doctor? Generally doctors make anywhere around 15 to 20 Lakhs with their private practice.. Salary in an hospital starts from around 6 Lakh after the internship.. the data is from few of my friends who went that way years back.. It would be more now.. I think cricketjoshila is a doctor.. he can give a better numbers
How many channels do you get for $12 dollars a month? Do you guys have Champions League Football, Premier League, La Liga and the Buli as part of the package in sports channels? What about watching other cricketing nations?
In Sub-Saharan Africa there's is no competition for Supersport owned by Multichoise. They are so dominant, anyone who's watching sport is watching it through them, it's a monopoly.
if you are unwilling to pay even that amount you can always opt for DD (national television's) free direct to home digital service. It is free for lifetime and all Indian matches including IPL are telecast live on DD.
http://www.sportsind.com/cricket/dd-national-live-streaming-india/
currently the channels on free DTH are SD although that is expected to add HD channels in the near future. Quality is good enough for anything up to 50 inch TV...

Ok, but I'm too lazy to Google, US $ work better for me. But thanks.
You guys are lucky. In order for us to watch the Proteas we have to folk out the full amount. Unless it's their home season, in which case all matches on home soil are available through the national broadcaster the SABC (they are useless believe me).

Tata Sky Premium Subscription has all the channels and games covered ...

This is incredible, an annual income of $8k is ~R108k (local currency). Therefore a household of 4/3 can't afford a premium subscription R809 p/m ($62). Cost of living in SA is high.
No Cricket or Rugby for them, they get to watch football. Which is available through "Compact" subscription. Even then football is limited to local soccer, the EPL and one selected Champions League fixture.
Hence the misconception that the black population isn't interested in cricket. It's hard to follow a team you see once a year. During our home season millions are interested, but they'll watch at home through the SABC, which always dwarfs Superspot numbers.
soso_killer
How many Tvs can u watch with that $62?
Also does it include internet?
As a premium subscriber you get to watch anything online through their app for free at no extra cost to you.
Make sure you're connected through a WiFi though, data is very expensive in South Africa. Don't recommend streaming on mobile whilst on the go.
DD ( Govt. owned) free to air channel will telecast all India international HOME matches ... This was made mandatory by Honourable Supreme Court of India. So very poor in India can always watch Cricket on DD without any charges.
STAR even after paying whopping $$$$ for broadcasting India matches, they must share Live feed with DD
Only downside is quality of DD and commentry will be of low standard compared to paid HD channels by STAR / SONY.
After Jio from Reliance (Mukesh Ambani ..Owner of Mumbai Indians) entered mobile market... DATA has become damn cheap in India.
For $6 one time charge, can use daily limit of 2 GB mobile data for 84 days
Most steam matches in mobile in India !
Even when they tour away from home?
CSA takes a pay cut from Supersport every year due to broadcasting home season matches on the national broadcaster.
We should have a similar system to yours and make it mandatory by law for all home matches to be broadcast on free to air. I remember a year where the SABC was cash strapped and couldn't afford to pay CSA even the discounted value. The general public couldn't watch our home season for the first time since readmission. It was a disgrace really, not on CSA who've been great, but the SABC who are so badly run like all other State Owned Enterprises in this country.
Lol you guys are spoilt, it's not fair. Seems to me like India is a well run country by competent people, putting the needs of the public first. Keep it up guys![]()
I guess LAW is enforced for only HOME matches (LOI only ..Tests are not included I guess)... !
For $13 you get 1GB of data, and that's expected to last you a month)
