What's new

Steven Smith is a cheat

Atleast he never said it was out unlike your Mr (cheat) Bell.

maybe I've over done a bit with the saying its not in comparison with other instances, I guess claiming it's out when it's not is blatant cheating (not talking about when there's genuine doubt with the person catching)...

but in this case, it's so far down the road of being emphatically not out with beyond doubt that the bowler knew the ball was on the floor and he hadn't caught it, that by even suggesting/querying whether he may have caught it or not, I believe is just as bad as appealing that it is out, for incidents that are more marginal (i.e. ball bouncing at same time as catching or fraction before). So still amounts to cheating for me..

The initial reaction to the thread was surprising, I felt like I'd antagonised the entire website! Ha.

I was surprised myself at the reactions on this thread.

It was a blatant attempt at trying to hoodwink the umpires and hoping technology helped him to a wicket.

I've had a look now Whip and it is a bit of a strange one.

He's either stupid, a cheat or severely over-estimates his own reflexes to the point where he is so quick even he can't keep track of his hands.

To be fair what I think happened is he thinks he has dropped it, but somehow comes back up with the ball in his other hand. So I don't think he really knows what happended but at some stage he had it in one hand.

Steven Smith is definitely a cheat. This is just about as bad as biting the ball. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it. He should have been banned for it no doubt.

Now you're just defending him for the sake of defending. :))

The ball literally rolled under him. Your hand would have to be numb to not realize you just picked a rolling ball off the ground.

Plus, he never really had it in one hand. It popped right out. He basically made a diving save like a goalkeeper would and then he scooped it up. The guy never even got his fingers around the ball.

What was matt prior doing there, whipped the bails of and claimed it was bowled, hmm.

Someone beat me to this thread lol. Cheater cheater pumpkin eater :))

yeh and england commentators not if talking alot about Prior the way they targetted Smith, Smith hardly appealed and wasnt sure and Prior knew he took the bails of and starts celebrating appealing thats what you call cheating pathetic

I wanna see some pommies here calling Prior a cheat, but I see no one hmmmmm

geez give them a chance

whippy is a good poster and objective, he calls it as he sees it - he was right to start this thread because it was a blatant bit of cheating from steven smith

Basically, Smith is a bit of a pest. He is a kid who seems to think that people will adore him and his antics all the time, little does he know that he is slowly becoming a piglet in cricket.

Didn't Strauss decline Smith a runner for cramps in the previous CT?

I only saw the first 10 overs of our innings, had a 9-5 day today. If I'd seen the incident live my opinion on it would have been no different. In Prior's defence, he has usually been a pretty honest gloveman in the past, if excitable

Didn't Sanga decline Afridi a runner when he had cramp in the Asia Cup? I thought it was meant to be down to the umpires.

Whippy, Prior just like our very own Akmal is one annoying WK. Hate that voice. Mind you Nayan Mongia was bar far the worst I have ever heard.

Trust none of the keepers are as irritating as Mushfiqur Rahim who after every ball shouts "common lads" and keeps chattering. But, yes Mongia beats him by a mile or two i think Mongia used to say "Aye ga"

:)) @ Prior's mediocre attempt at cheating.

I suppose that evens things out for the series then.

Good memory ..... good bump. ....
Probably it should have been bumped after #DRSgate aswell

Disappointing from Smith. He had the world at his feet.. World Cup hero, Ashes hero, best batsman of this generation.. all thrown away with one swipe. I'm still against the embarrassing overreaction that has been there to this incident considering that Smith's counterpart in this series - Faf Du Plessis has been charged for the exact same offense in the past and is yet leading the team but nevertheless it's been a disappointing series of events from Smith.

Sad day for you :viru King Kohli was surpassed Smith in every sphere this year, be it performance or character :yk2

Btw Smith was never the best batsman of his generation, he had a shot at being the best test batsman of his generation but that's about it

lol Smith was never a true contender for batsmen of the generation. His ODI and T20 game is average whereas Kohli was solid (now great) in Tests and incredible in the other two formats.

Ha ha, forgot about this thread completely.

I guess that all those years ago Smith looked the other way with cheating once, and after you have done that, it is much easier to look the other way again.

Australia under Ricky Ponting: Were they as 'out of control' as they are now under Steve Smith?

I was wondering about this considering how the entire sports media has been questioning the ill-discipline of the Australian team and how they seem to be 'out of control' these days. In Particular to the negative energy that they generate because of the likes of Warner.

So Ive been trying to think of the time when Australia were the most dominant force in cricket, this wasnt actually too long ago, 10-15 years to be precise. One of the most difficult teams to play against mainly due to their aggressive nature when it came to sledging. Besides, serious decisions on an ICC committee level often would be in their favour. Also, with players like Warne, Ponting, Symonds and even Darren Lehman, it really wasnt a friendly team to come up against.

So the question is, were that Australian team 'bad' as compared to this Australian team which mainly has the one over aggressive bloke in the form of David Warner and the occasional tantrums of Mitchell Starc? So has this been a problem of time old with Australia? Have they just been bullies forever? I mean beyond the time of Ponting meaning before he took over?

I disagree Whippy.

Steve Smith is as dumb as a doorknob. He probably actually forgot the rules of cricket and claimed the catch, and it took about 20 seconds for thought processes to begin inside his brain after which he realised if a ball bounces a catch cannot be claimed.

:)))

Smith has come full circle. Started off as an annoying player that no one liked and now he's back to being an annoying player who is liked by no one.

Backing him to take out all his frustrations at home against India though. I'm talking 3 double-tons with an average over 300. FTB-ing, the likes of which has never been seen before.

Not just a cheat, but a captain who guided others to cheat, created a pre-meditated way of tampering with the ball and constructed an instrument to do it.

I long called Smith an inspiration, someone who showed youngsters how to succeed against the odds but now he is nothing more than a petty cheat. The punishment being dished out is also extremely lenient.

Smith made similar promises when he was caught asking the Gallery if he should ask for a review regarding an LBW decision when playing against the Indians a few months back !!!!!! He probably promised himself " Never to get caught again " ..... ha ha ha !!!

This team has been cheating for years.

Let's not forget looking at dressing room to ask if he should refer DRS.

Boult surprised by Aussies' reverse -2016

New Zealand paceman Trent Boult was impressed with the reverse-swing produced by Australia in the first Test, saying his side should learn from the tourists.

Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood and Jackson Bird all had the old ball hooping during NZ's second innings in Wellington, helping Australia cruise to victory.

Boult, regarded as one of the best swing bowlers in the world, felt there were lessons in it for both the Black Caps' batsmen and bowlers.

"We didn't get it to go at all," he said.

"They got it to go nicely and it worked very effectively for them.

"It was pretty surprising.

"We could learn a thing or two from them in regards to if nothing is happening on a flat wicket, then how valuable reverse-swing is.

"They did that nicely, but I'm not sure how much we'll see of that down at Hagley Oval."

The second Test starts on Saturday in Christchurch, where both sides are fully expecting a green seamer.

"It's very green down there and a massive green outfield. We'll look at it (using reverse-swing) but I can't promise it," Boult said.

Reverse-swing is elusive but often creates havoc when bowlers get it right.

It generally has as much to do with conditions as it does a paceman's technique.

"We got lucky, someone hit a cut shot and it really scuffed up one side of the ball," Australia skipper Steve Smith said.

"So that really got it started for us."

Boult added his side had to learn from every aspect of the innings-and-52-run loss at the Basin Reserve.

"They're the best team in the world for a reason and this is what you play for, to play against the best teams and perform against the best players," he said.

"We've been in this situation before. We're looking forward to hopefully levelling the series."

Warner was writing the comments for Smith I suppose.

Mumbai, March 26, 2018: Ajinkya Rahane will replace Steve Smith as captain of the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the Vivo Indian Premier League 2018.

Zubin Bharucha, Head of Cricket, said, “The incident in Cape Town has certainly disturbed the cricket world. We have been in constant touch with the BCCI and taken their counsel. Furthermore we have been in regular contact with Steve.”

Steve believes given the current circumstances “it’s in the best interest of the Rajasthan Royals that he steps down as Captain so the team can get ready for the start of the IPL without the ongoing distractions.” He would like to extend his gratitude to the BCCI officials and all the fans in India for their constant support.

Speaking at the announcement of the new captain, Bharucha added, “Ajinkya Rahane has been an integral part of the Royals family for a long time now and he understands the culture and values of our team. We have absolutely no doubt that he will be a great leader of the Rajasthan Royals.”

Steve Smith Steps Down as Rajasthan Royals Captain, Rahane to Lead

Under fire Australian cricketer Steve Smith has stepped down from his position of the captain of the Rajasthan Royals team. He will be replaced by Indian opener Ajinkya Rahane. The Indian Premier League franchise, which is making a comeback in the league after serving a two-year ban, confirmed the news in a statement on Monday.

Rajasthan Royals' Head of Cricket, Zubin Bharucha said, "The incident in Cape Town has certainly disturbed the cricketing world. We have been in constant touch with the BCCI and taken their counsel. Furthermore we have been in regular contact with Steve.”

“Rajasthan Royals will do everything possible to protect the values and the integrity of the game. We agree with Steve’s decision to step down as captain, and we are fortunate to have such a capable successor with Ajinkya Rahane. It is important that all cricket fans retain a balanced perspective on the situation. What happened in South Africa was clearly wrong, especially given that it appears to have been pre-meditated. That said, this will be a difficult time for Steve as well, given how much he cares about the game.” said Manoj Badale, the co-owner of Rajasthan Royals.

Rajasthan Royals will launch their season with an away fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, April 9th followed by their first home game in Jaipur on Wednesday, April 11th where they will host Delhi Daredevils at Sawai Mansingh stadium.

Welcoming Rahane as the Captain of the team, Ranjit Barthakur, Executive Chairman, Rajasthan Royals, said, “Ajinkya Rahane has stepped up as a leader whenever he has been given the opportunity, be it for Team India or at Rajasthan Royals. We consider him the right candidate to lead the side this crucial season when the team is coming back to the IPL after two years. We wish him all the best.”

The franchise had on Sunday stated that they will await for BCCI's instructions before taking a call on Smith's future as the team's leader.

Being sacked as captain (ermm sorry stepping down) by Rajasthan for moral/cheating reasons is the ultimate irony. Haha @ Smith, the humiliation continues. Sad!

Things are bad when you are considered not fit enough to lead even the circus..

Wasn’t Rajasthan Royals banned from IPL due to corrupt activities? Its a shame a phrase such as “culture and values of our team” is thrown around with little gravity.
