Tharoor, part of the Opposition party took to Twitter and said that he always found her a gracious EAM and was sorry about Swaraj leaving the parliament.

Expressing his admiration for External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has said he was “sorry” that the veteran BJP leader will leave Parliament. His reaction came hours after Swaraj announced that she won’t be contesting next year’s Lok Sabha elections due to “health reasons”.
“For all our political differences, I am sorry that @SushmaSwaraj will leave Parliament. As chair of the jury for @Outlookindia’s social media awards, I was happy to honour her Twiplomacy. As chair of Parliment’s ExtAffsCmt, I always found her a gracious EAM,” Tharoor tweeted.

Swaraj was quick to respond to the tweet and thanked Tharoor for his kind words. She also said that she wished both the leaders continued in their respective positions. In retaliation to her tweet, the Congress MP tweeted: “Thanks Sushma Swaraj. We’ll let the voters decide that. All the best.”

Swaraj, after announcing that she won’t be contesting elections, also cleared the air that she is not retiring from politics. She represents Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district in parliament and had announced her decision in Indore where she had gone to canvas for the Assembly elections which are currently underway.

After Swaraj’s announcements, a number of leaders had come out in support of her on Twitter, including Rajya Sabha member Swapan Dasgupta and former finance minister P Chidambaram.

Was a very witty Parliamentarian defn one of the ones with more grace.

The old guard has no future in BJP sadly esp with her husband's socialist links.

she was annoying as heck

Swaraj was one of the best External Affairs ministers India has ever had. Her diplomatic skills apart, no Indian travelling abroad had anything to fear under her watch. Thanks to her, Indian missions worldwide became extremely efficient and very proactive in meeting the needs of Indian citizens.

And of course, if a Pakistani says she was annoying as heck then she must have done a good job.:ashwin

She isn't quitting politics - she's only quitting the Lok Sabha (the lower house of India's Parliament) - she will probably reappear soon after the election in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house.

Wish her good health. Hated her when she wouldn't stop throwing tantrums at Sonia Gandhi joining politics. As a woman pulling down another woman on the ridiculous foreign origin issue, it was quite disgraceful.

Pathetic woman, only heard ever spew hate with no diplomatic language or showing anything mature in her speechs. Good wont have to hear her rubbish again, wish her nothing.

Take a chill pill and relax dude. So much animosity isn't good for your health.

Nothing wrong with having animosity towards diplomats who see no sense of diplmocy but only to further break relationships. This woman was offered talks by the new government of Pakistan, she refused. If you like her, your choice but dont expect others to.

How did an Indian minister affect you (a Pakistani living in the UK) so much?

She also issued plenty of medical visas for ailing Pakistani patients to get treatment in India.

This woman facilitated the treatment of more Pakistanis than you can imagine.

How msny pakistanis treatment have you facilitated?

Hitler had some 200 000 peoples of part Jewish ethnicity in his army as well, doesn't mean much, it was all publicity otherwise they would have looked to treat their native Hindus in remote villages first.

Publicity for whom? Hitler analogy for what? How/what would India gain by treating Pakistani patients? In fact Sushma is mocked on social media for these stunts by the anti-Pakistan/Hindutva votebase, for not giving Indian patients preference and catering to the needs of an enemy country. How is she or the government gaining by earning the scorn of dedicated core voters? How are hospitals gaining when certain sections of Indians start hating them for such acts? Certainly not from the business angle, check what happened to snapdeal.

People may sit in some part of the globe and hate, spread venom because that is what they like or choose to do. But some family in Pakistan will be thankful that their child's life was saved thanks to the intervention of Sushma Swaraj. If majority Pakistani people don't like it make your voices heard to your govt and ensure no patient comes to India, enforce a complete ban on medical tourism to India. Let the sick patients die, let the families suffer to satiate the big egos of strangers. But that is not what is happening, right? Pakistani ministers and senior civil servants go to great lengths to ensure the files are moved keeping in mind patient's welfare. In the real world empathy is appreciated, all this brownie point scoring, ego and hyper patriotism are best left to the internet. There are good people on Indian side of LoC who are willing to help out an average Pakistani and viceversa. Not everything is publicity.

I am no fan of BJP or their brand of politics or cultural views. But I am obliged to respect the good deeds of people, no matter what ideology they subscribe to. Sushma may have many faults but if she has done something humane, it needs to be pointed out amidst all the negative opinions. Just stating facts and my honest opinion, don't mean to disrespect any PP member or enter a mud slinging contest, prefer to stay out of such things.

It's a pernicious and cynical way to say "we want peace, they're the ones pursue war" while scoring points for medical tourism as well. We all know Hindutvadi concerns for the welfare of peoples in Pak through the Kulbhushan Jadhav & co.

U r right guess they learnt from religions that did the same across centuries ,weird thing so many centuries and people would still talk about peace about religion even though they have killed in the name of religion.

God's mission eh.

Pakistani's have been recieving treatment in India for years, maybe more under Congress.

Her job in the foriegn ministry gave her the opportunity to use dialogue esp in the UN to further peace with Pakistan. She refused to meet the new government, rubbish at her job and all ive ever heard her is to spread hate. BJP fans will love for it.

PM Modi with the help of NSA Doval controls the foreign policy if you follow Indian news. Sushma has been more or less sidelined, she is just a mouthpiece for GOI. Her main role has been issuing visas and helping out overseas Indians, narrative about Indo-Pak relations isn't set by her. In fact she has a very small role in arranging our PM's foreign trips. She also belongs to a camp that Modi-Shah are trying to sideline, you have to follow Indian politics to know these details.

If you want to bash Hinduism' caste/varna system and its virtual animalization of more than half of the Hindu population (Shudras/Dalits) you should open another thread, this one is about Miss Swaraj.
