The KFC BBL|10 Team of the Tournament is:

Josh Philippe (Sydney Sixers, wk, 8 votes)

Alex Hales (Sydney Thunder, o/s, 8 votes)

Ben McDermott (Hobart Hurricanes, 8 votes)

Colin Munro (Perth Scorchers, o/s, 8 votes)

Glenn Maxwell (Melbourne Stars, 5 votes)

Dan Christian (Sydney Sixers, 6 votes)

Rashid Khan (Adelaide Strikers, o/s, 6 votes)

Jhye Richardson (Perth Scorchers, 8 votes)

Mark Steketee (Brisbane Heat, 6 votes)

Adam Zampa (Melbourne Stars, 6 votes)

Wes Agar (Adelaide Strikers, 7 votes)

Marcus Stoinis (Melbourne Stars, X-Factor, 4 votes)

Daniel Sams (Sydney Thunder, X-Factor, 3 votes)

The top four of Philippe, Hales, McDermott and Munro were selected by all eight coaches in their Team of the Tournament submissions. The quartet occupy four of the top six positions on the BKT Golden Bat leaderboard (which remains live into the Finals series), headed by Hales on 535 runs for the season to date.

Fast bowler Richardson, like the top four, was also a unanimous selection and currently leads the race for the BKT Golden Arm cap with 27 wickets. He is joined by fellow quicks Agar and Steketee as well as leg-spinners Rashid Khan and Adam Zampa in a strong bowling attack.

Four all-rounders have also made the squad of 13, including two X-Factor players for the first time. Proven match-winners Maxwell and Christian have been rewarded for their significant influence on multiple results this season with positions in the playing XI, while Stoinis and Sams’ ability to make an instant impact off the bench earned them the 12th and 13th positions.

Commenting on the team, Trent Woodhill, League player acquisition and cricket consultant, said:

“This is a team that would be highly competitive in any T20 match anywhere in the world, filled with powerful ball strikers, high class bowlers and strong X-Factor impact players.

“The likes of Alex Hales, Colin Munro and Rashid Khan led the way for the international contingent throughout KFC BBL|10, while Jhye Richardson has been the standout fast bowler of the campaign so far.

“The quality of cricket throughout this campaign and the strength of this team is also emphasised by the calibre of those who have missed out, including the likes of Alex Carey, Chris Lynn and Peter Siddle who all had exceptional seasons.

“Congratulations to all players who have made KFC BBL|10 such a success and we look forward to seeing the majority of the Team of the Tournament take the field throughout the Finals series.”

James Vince was on 98* and his team required 1 off 18 balls to win. Andrew Tye deliberately balls a wide to deny him a chance of getting a hundred. Poor sportsmanship.

Perth Scorchers player Mitchell Marsh has been charged with a Level 2 offence under the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct following his side’s KFC BBL Finals match against the Sydney Sixers on January 30.

Marsh was charged by match referee Bob Stratford under Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during a match.

Marsh accepted the charge and proposed sanction of a $5000 fine.

“I accept the fine handed down to me, my reaction to the umpire’s decision was unacceptable and not the example I want to be setting for any young cricketer,” Marsh said.

“I have complete respect for the umpires and the job they do. I’ll learn from this and look forward to Thursday night’s match.”

The KFC Big Bash League is pleased to announce that an increased crowd capacity of 75% has been confirmed for Saturday’s KFC BBL|10 Final at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The increased capacity means up to 28,500 fans and SCG members will now be able to attend this season’s decider. The Sydney Sixers will host either the Perth Scorchers or Brisbane Heat, who go head to head in Thursday’s ‘The Challenger’.

The move to a 75% crowd capacity comes after the initial allocation of publicly available tickets was sold out within one hour of going on sale on Monday.

The increased capacity has been approved by NSW Health as part of the SCG’s updated COVID Safety plan.

Cricket Australia wishes to thank the NSW Government, NSW Health, Venues NSW and Cricket NSW whose cooperation and hard work has ensured the KFC BBL|10 Final will be experienced by as many fans as possible.

A further allocation of tickets will go on sale at 9:00am AEDT on Wednesday, February 3 at cricket.com.au/tickets. Tickets to The Challenger are still available.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s Head of Big Bash Leagues, said:

“Today’s announcement of an increased capacity for the KFC BBL|10 Final means that over 28,000 fans and SCG members will be able to attend what is sure to be a thrilling season finale on Saturday.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the NSW Government, NSW Health, Venues NSW and Cricket NSW for making this possible and ensuring the season ends on a high. We can’t wait to see our Sydney fans for the first time this KFC BBL season.

“The KFC BBL|10 Finals series has been compelling viewing, with almost three million fans tuning in across the first three matches and we look forward to two more great contests on Thursday and Saturday night.”

Stuart Ayres, NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, said:

“This is a great result for the people of NSW who have been waiting for Big Bash cricket to return to the State.

“We’ve worked closely with NSW Health and Cricket Australia to bring this major event to the SCG and can’t wait to see the Sydney Sixers and their fans at their home ground on Saturday.”

Sydney Sixers wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe has been named the KFC BBL|10 Player of the Tournament as voted by the on-field umpires this season.

In a tight race, Philippe polled 22 votes throughout the regular season to finish two clear of Sydney Thunder opening batsman Alex Hales. Perth Scorchers fast bowler Jhye Richardson was one further vote behind in third.

Philippe and Hales currently occupy the top two spots on the BKT Golden Bat leaderboard, with the Sixers star trailing by 44 runs heading into Saturday’s KFC BBL|10 Final at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Richardson sits atop the BKT Golden Arm leaderboard for the season on 27 wickets, three clear of Mark Steketee. The pair will both take the field in The Challenger on Thursday, February 4 at Manuka Oval.

Philippe’s award is further recognition of his rapid rise to KFC BBL stardom in recent years following his move to the Sydney Sixers.

In KFC BBL|09, Philippe won the Player of the Final award after guiding the Sydney Sixers to their second title with a half century in front of a SCG home crowd. He finished as the League’s third highest scorer that season with 487 runs to go with his 11 dismissals, finishing ninth in the Player of the Tournament count.

Philippe took his game to a new level in KFC BBL|10 and with a second consecutive home final ahead of him, has already notched up 499 runs and 16 dismissals behind the stumps. He has won three Player of the Match Awards in his 15 appearances so far this campaign.

He has also been rewarded with a place in the 18-player squad for the Qantas Australian Men’s T20I tour of New Zealand.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s Head of Big Bash Leagues, said:

“We’d like to congratulate Josh Philippe on another outstanding season at the top of the order for the Sydney Sixers and being named the KFC BBL|10 Player of the Tournament.

“This is a richly deserved accolade and recognition for a number of match-winning performances, which have guided the Sixers to a second consecutive home Final at the SCG and selection in the Australian Men’s T20I squad.

“We’re sure all our Sixers fans can’t wait to get to the SCG this Saturday night to watch their team in action against either the Scorchers or the Heat.

“Our congratulations also go out to Alex Hales and Jhye Richardson on their performances this year which have seen them sitting atop the BKT Golden Bat and Arm leaderboards heading into the final two matches of the campaign.”

The KFC BBL|10 Player of the Tournament is selected by the League’s on-field umpires. Each umpire submits a 3-2-1 vote after each match, with six votes the most any individual player can receive in a single match.

Melbourne Renegades player Will Sutherland has been sanctioned under the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct following the completion of an investigation into an incident relating to a breach of biosecurity measures in Melbourne on Thursday, January 21.

Sutherland was found to have played golf and had a meal with people outside the KFC Big Bash League’s bio-secure hub during the tournament.

He was subsequently issued with a report and notice of charge under article 2.23 of the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct, relating to conduct that either (a) is contrary to the Spirit of Cricket; (b) is unbecoming of a representative or official; (c) is or could be harmful to the interests of cricket; and/or (d) does or could bring the game of cricket into disrepute.

Sutherland accepted the charge but challenged the proposed sanction of a $10,000 fine with $4000 suspended at a Code of Conduct hearing before Commissioner Adrian Anderson on Monday, February 1. The sanction was subsequently downgraded to a $5,000 fine.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s Head of Big Bash Leagues, said:

“The bio-security protocols have not only kept players, staff, officials and cricket fans safe, but have also ensured it has been possible to travel across borders and take the KFC BBL to seven different states and territories by reducing instances of close contact with COVID in the community.”
