He should pray for PMLN govt because if PTI does come to power then his days are already numbered.

The Pakistan Cricket Board vehemently denies a false claim made in Express News’ story published on 15 February regarding the renovation work in Chairman PCB's office.
The necessary renovation and revamping work taking place in the chairman’s office is planned in light of the professional requirements for carrying out day-to-day proceedings.
It is pertinent to mention that the Chairman himself is bearing the renovation cost as opposed to the claim made in the said platform’s news story. The PCB urges the media fraternity to report responsibly.

Kami's after a job.

Mohsin Naqli’s appoint is purely on political basis. Is this guy passionate about cricket?.Does he understand the requirements of modern day cricket?.Does he have a background in any sports?.He has been rewarded for his services to certain quarters.

As per a media report:

Mohsin Naqvi has recently assumed the responsibilities of Chairman PCB for three years, and has also been handling the affairs of Chief Minister Punjab these days. However, he is likely to be relieved from there after the general elections.

The services of three officers have been obtained on deputation from the Punjab government for a period of two years. These include Lieutenant (Retd) Sohail Ashraf from the Pakistan Administrative Service, along with officers from the Police Service, Irtiza Komail and Zain Asim.

Sources have revealed that there is a possibility of assigning a significant post to Lieutenant (Retd) Sohail Ashraf. The position of CEO is not present in the PCB's constitution. When Najam Sethi returned, the constitution was restored that was amended previously in Ramiz Raja's tenure. Subsequently, CEO Faisal Hasnain was sent to the Special Projects department, and then he resigned.

Now either the constitution will have to be amended or the CEO's post will be given another name such as MD. Salman Naseer, who works as COO, can also be sent to the International Cricket department. The possibility of dismissing several officers has also increased, causing concern among PCB employees. Important decisions could be announced in the coming days.

As per reports,PCB is looking to appoint foreign coaches and support staff for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in June. The Pakistan Cricket is going through a string of changes right after the ODI World Cup. Not only in the backroom staff, but their team captain also stepped down from all three formats after the tournament.

The new Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi is keen to look at the available coaching options for Pakistan and is more inclined to appoint foreign coaches and support staff.

Naqvi has already asked chief selector, Wahab Riaz to speak to some of the available options and shortlist candidates as he is aware foreign coaches might be reluctant to join the Pakistan team because of the way Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick were removed from their positions after the World Cup and their contracts cut short.

This also means that the future of coaches Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal is also in doubt as they were appointed by Hafeez.

Shaheen’s performance as captain in the Pakistan Super League is under scrutiny no doubt about that.

By the end of March, there might be a number of changes in the Pakistan board and in the team too. It also added that Hafeez and Wahab had a fallout with each other. Hafeez is unhappy that Wahab didn't support in extending his director contract despite being close to Naqvi.

Punjab chief secretary among seven government officials inducted into PCB

Seven government officials, including Punjab chief secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, have been inducted into the Pakistan Cricket Board, as outgoing Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar continues to take long-term decisions before an elected prime minister takes charge in the first week of March to take major steps as PCB patron-in-chief.

First, the caretaker PM nominated Mohsin Naqvi for the post of PCB chairman. At that time, Mohsin was also working as caretaker chief minister Punjab. Later, he was elected as PCB chief on Feb 6, two days before the general elections in the country.

Anwaar silently made an amendment to the PCB constitution, which increased the number of his nominees from two to three on the PCB Board of Governors, the principal think-tank of the cricket board.

First, Anwar had named two nominees including Mohsin besides retaining Mustafa Ramday, who was nominated by then prime minister Shahbaz Sharif along with Zaka Ashraf.

And now Zahid has been incorporated, increasing the number of PM’s nominees.

Moreover, the Establishment Division issued the orders of government officials including Sohail Ashraf (BS-20), Zain Asim (BS-18), Abdullah Khurram Niazi (BS-18), Irtiza Komail and Rafiullah to join the PCB.

According to sources, a police official Usman will also join the PCB.

When contacted, a PCB official confirmed to Dawn that the orders regarding some of the officials had been issued by the Establishment Division. However so far, it is not clear as to what job they would do.

“Currently, the PCB chairman is on leave, and is abroad with his family. When he returns the situation about the jobs of these government officials will be decided,” the PCB official said on the condition of anonymity.

It may be mentioned here that Abdullah Khurram, who will leave his post as deputy commissioner, Jhang, a native town of Mohsin, to join the PCB, had already worked as secretary of the defunct Punjab Cricket Association during Ehsan Mani’s tenure under the 2019 PCB constitution, which was replaced with the 2014 constitution, which was restored by the Shahbaz-led government in 2022.

Sources said though the Establishment Division had issued the notification on Sohail Ashraf’s transfer to the PCB, the Punjab government had not relieved him yet.

All these government officials, sources added, would run the PCB on higher positions as several directors in the PCB may lose their jobs.

So, Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar changed the PCB constitution to increase his nominees on the Board of Governors from two to three. Now, what's this going to do to PCB's money and how it runs things? We'll have to wait and see. But, you know, these decisions are making me wonder. We need some answers to make sure Pakistan cricket keeps on growing and doing well.

Caretakers’ step to give e-Library to PCB raises eyebrows

The former caretaker cabinet’s hastily approval of giving control of the e-Library situated in the Nishtar Sports Complex near the Gaddafi Stadium to the Pakistan Cricket Board has raised many an eyebrows as interim ex-CM Mohsin Naqvi was to take the reins of the PCB after the new dispensation is in place.

The move seems to be a challenge to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz who, in her maiden speech, had said that e-library is the vision of the PML-N under which a good number of libraries were set up in the province by Shehbaz Sharif’s government.

According to a Punjab Sports Department’s official, Mr Naqvi as caretaker chief minister and PCB chairman paid a surprise to visit to the e-Library during the PSL-9 matches and decided on the spot to hand it over to the PCB to set up a cricket museum in the building.

According to the official, 9,600 students doing PhD, MPhil and CSS [aspirants] were benefiting from the e-Library as regular members, without any fee.

“They have access to free net service, computers and a comfortable environment to continue their study and they all are unhappy over this decision of Mohsin Naqvi,” the official said. He said the caretaker Punjab government had also got the approval of the cabinet in its Feb 18 meeting ‘in haste’.

According to the minutes of the cabinet’s meeting, a copy of which is available with Dawn, Mohsin was showing haste in taking over the e-Library.

“9.5: The Law Department observed that e-Library situated at Abdul Hafeez Kardar Road, Nishtar Sports Complex, being administered through Youth Affairs and Sports, is an asset of Government of the Punjab, therefore, Provincial Cabinet is duly authorised to transfer the same to the Pakistan Cricket Board, an autonomous body of Federal Government, for setting up a Cricket Museum, as per its request.

“However, it may be observed that the modalities for such allotment are required to be worked out by the administrative department with the PCB, in the shape of an agreement/MoU to be vetted by this department, with the foregoing observations, if deemed appropriate the chief minister may like to place the matter before provincial cabinet for consideration/decision.

“9.6: Accordingly, the cabinet was requested to consider and approve that the administrative control of e-Library may be handed over to PCB for setting up a Cricket Museum. The terms and conditions of the agreement shall be finalised by the PCB and the Punjab Sports Board.

“Decision No. 09: The cabinet considered and approved the proposal contained in para 9.6 above. In the meanwhile, the operational control of e-Library may be handed over to PCB without waiting for the issuance of the minutes of the cabinet meeting,” it concluded.

Meanwhile, the official said the sports secretary was reluctant to hand over the e-Library. One of the member students said CM Maryum should take an immediate action to stop it.

The member also said the PCB had a good number of shops in the Gaddafi Stadium and it would be better to set up the cricket museum in some shops, instead of renting them out.

When contacted, the PCB media department kept mum and spokesperson of Punjab government Marrium Aurangzeb also did not respond.

It merits mentioning that the PCB had already taken over the high performance centres of the Punjab Sports Department, which were established in Sialkot and Faisalabad. The game of cricket is not included in the list of the Punjab Sports

Department, as it has to promote other games like hockey, football, boxing and others. Owing to the glamour of the game in the country, the department had been involved in cricket activities. In the previous Punjab government, Shahbaz

Sharif as chief minister had hired the services of former Test cricketer Zaheer Abbas to set up the cricket academies in the province. The project rolled over soon after the end of the Shahbaz’s government in 2018. Later, in PTI’s government in Punjab, Sports Board Director General Tariq Qureshi ‘unnecessarily’ prepared two high performance centres in Sialkot and Faisalabad, while it was the job of the PCB to set up such centres.

Moreover, the PCB had already taken control of the LCCA ground, adjacent to the e-Library, which had never been its property as it belonged to the Lahore City Cricket Association since 1962. The ground was given to the PCB some three years back by the Lahore commissioner, despite the fact the cricket board is not the owner of the ground. The infrastructure of the LCCA ground is in a bad shape as no renovation work was done by the PCB in the last three years.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s appointment challenged in IHC

Mohsin Naqvi's appointment as Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman has been challenged in Islamabad High Court.

Chief Justice Amir Farooq reserved the decision on hearing of the petition.

Chief Justice Amir Farooq inquired the petitioner why he was saying this placement is wrong.

According to the Constitution, there is a difference between the elected and the caretaker prime minister and the power to appoint the Chairman PCB as Patron-in-Chief rests with the Prime Minister.

“Prime Minister caretaker cannot be Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Cricket Board, lawyer petitioner. So you are saying that the caretaker prime minister did not have this authority,” Chief Justice asked.

Chief Justice Amir Farooq became angry with the petitioner for speaking while writing the order.

“You are speaking while writing the order, so I am not writing it. Wait for my order,” Chief Justice Aamir Farooq remarked.

The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) new chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with Pakistani cricketers on Tuesday where he emphasised the importance of merit within the team.

Naqvi, who was elected the chairman of PCB without any opposition, addressed the players in Islamabad where they gathered to participate in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9.

Talking to players, Naqvi stated that the team will be selected solely based on merit and no wishes of any individual will be taken into consideration.

“The team selection will not be done on the will of anyone, the team selection will be done only on merit,” Naqvi stated. “The most promising thing is that merit will be kept in front, I don’t want to criticise anyone.”

He then reassured that every deserving player will get the chance and if merit is broken, the entire selection committee will bear its consequences.

“Every player's turn will come on merit, if the merit is broken, it has been decided that the entire selection committee will go,” he added. “There are ups and downs in the team, Pakistan cricket team have star players who have to be respected.

“If the players are playing well, they will be selected in the team, I will never say that the players should sacrifice.”

Earlier today, it was reported that the petition against the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi was challenged in the Islamabad High Court, according to Geo News.

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq reserved a verdict on hearing the case against the appointment of PCB Chairman Naqvi.

According to the petitioner, the Pakistan constitution clearly differentiates between an elected prime minister and a caretaker. The caretaker doesn’t have the authority to nominate the chairman of the PCB as its patron-in-chief.

Yep and Anwar ul Haq will be the next Chairman Senate for likewise services at the national level.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday reserved its verdict on the maintainability of a plea challenging the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman.

The petition, heard by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, was filed in the court contending that although it is the prerogative of the prime minister to appoint the PCB chief, there lies a distinction between the authority of an elected prime minister and a caretaker one.

During the hearing today, the petitioner's counsel argued a caretaker prime minister "cannot be the PCB's patron-in-chief", who has the authority to appoint the PCB head.

Last month, Naqvi — a media channel owner — who was serving as Punjab's interim chief minister was elected unopposed as the PCB chairman for three years after being nominated by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar for the cricketing body's Board of Governors.

"I will try to fix the issues affecting Pakistan cricket. Reforms in cricket are the need of the hour," he said while commenting on his appointment as the PCB chief.

He is currently serving as the 37th chairman of the cricket board after his predecessor Zaka Ashraf stepped down as chairman management committee in January.

"I was working for the betterment of cricket but it is not possible for us to work in this way," Ashraf said.

During the tenure of Ashraf, Pakistan played two major competitions — Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.

The Men in Green failed to qualify in the final of the continental tournament while they also couldn't qualify for the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Naqvi was appointed to the sought-after post after the board was hit by a series of resignations following the team's dismal performances in major tournaments.

The officials who had stepped down from their posts included Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick.

Prior to that, Pakistan's star batter Babar Azam had also resigned as the national team's captain from all three formats

Too bad Mohsin Naqvi is not on PTI's and IK's side. The guy has a reputation for being a go getter and a very efficient ruthless administrator. He might be the no-nonsense PCB Chairman we needed for a while.

'Everything will be on merit'. This coming from the guy who was literally handed this job because he was on good terms with the right people. The irony...

This reads like the same bunch of cliched nonsense we hear from any politician. Having any hopes from any PCB Chairman is honestly a fools errand anyway. If he can avoid being Ramiz or Zaka level bad then I think it would be a successful term. That's how low the bar is.

Is he as ruthless as Najam Sethi and how good is he at cheerleading, will he be sharing his diet plan with the team?

Apparently he said that if he hears one complaint of Dosti Yaari selection he will sack the entire selection committee

Who is he firing shots at?

At his own incompetence and the absolute idiotic ad-hoc way Pakistani institutions are run. It’s going to be the same old with Naqvi as it’s been in the past. No one should be holding out hope for a blatant political appointee who is reportedly bringing in his own political cronies to top positions to do anything of substance.

Says a guy who is selected on dost yaari pro max. I am not sure if its confirmed but apparently his wife and the wife Munir Mistry are sisters. Even if its not true, his appointment is the most pathetic ever in PK cricket. A guy that has killed the likes of Zille Shah and others ends up running our cricket board.

As per reports, Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB chairman, brought several officers from the Punjab government onto the board, assigning them the various responsibilities and roles.

The police service’s Irtaza Komail has been appointed as the Chief Security Officer, who can travel with the national cricket team on foreign tours.

Several changes are expected in the coming days. Salman Naseer could be appointed as the head of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

However, amid expected changes, concerns are rising about the fate of current officials post PSL.

Lieutenant (Retd) Sahil Ashraf, a Pakistan Administrative Service officer, was to assume the position, but according to the sources, the Punjab government did not relieve him yet. If changes occured in the constitution, the appointment of the COO is also possible.

On the other hand, PCB employees are extremely worried about their future.

Internally, it is circulating that a list of over 100 officials has been prepared, who will be sent home after the PSL finals.

However, there is no possibility of removing such a large number of officials.

So he might get made the interior minister, so talks are going on.

In that case, he will have to vacate the chairman role.

The musical chairs continue
Sethi might be dancing thanks to this rumor. No don’t he will try and weasel his way to the chair

I am not sure if it is true but if it is, all Naqvi is trying to do is to jump from 1 department to another. Trying to find a suitable place for him. Comical stuff is happening in PCB in the last few years.

Looks like Naqvi sahab will keep both seats now. LOL

Screenshot 2024-03-12 151016.png
As for the cm thing, lol, bhai jan, he is cm for 24 hours only. A new punjab assembly will be formed after the elections which are in less than 12 hrs.

So stop making up stuff without knowing the job. Pcb is an admin job, the chairman isnt required to start holding his bat on the desk.
Why is it Mohsin's birthright to lead both Punjab's chairmanship and the PCB at the same time?

Can you understand my perspective now?

These positions are being given to a corrupt man because he is obedient to the kingmakers. I find it absurd that some individuals are actually defending these ridiculous acts.

I hope you're not desensitizing people to the corruption and injustices that will inevitably occur over the next 5 years. I suppose that's just the way PDM operates, considering the fact that they were not elected democratically.

Surely it's not Apr 1st ? Forget Chairmanship, how can you be a part-time Interior Minister ?

"If You Don’t Stand for Something, You’ll Fall for Anything". Thats what these losers are. Only people that have earnt their Rizq in a halal way feel the pain of PK and its people

To be fair, chairman's role and interior minister roles are integrated as the PCB chairman relies on the countries chairman to do most of things for Cricket.

But i think, he will most likely be replaced as Chairman now.

No issues if he holds both post (if the law allows it)

plz provide proof of corruption.

First decide what is your argument, holding multiple post or corruption. It seems like you are trying to throw in every allegation and hoping one would stick to the wall

I'm amazed by the impressive list of roles held by our cricket board chairman, who also serves as our interior minister, former Chief Minister of Punjab, and media mogul. Has there ever been a person as competent as Naqvi in Pakistan's history? It took Imran Khan more than three decades to go from being a cricket captain to party chairman and finally to the Prime Ministership. Naqvi, on the other hand, was able to acquire three different high-ranking positions in just a few weeks and was able to hold two positions at the same time on two separate occasions. It's remarkable! I think Naqvi should consider running for the PM position next, given his "luck" so far, he might just get it. There was no involvement of foul play whatsoever.

I hope Naqvi's imposition on Pakistan is appreciated by PDMers, who just so happen to the minority. Perhaps they are accustomed to imposing unwanted things on others by now.

Off course you don't have any issues. While we are at it, why not make him captain, chief Selector and Arbiter of life and death. Do you actually stand for anything

Whatever happened to Omni group and The TTS scandal? Proofs were provided and in the TT scandal both Dr Rizwan and Maqsood Chaprasi were murdered.

Didnt this guy stop elections illegally in Punjab? Is that not corruption. I remember some loser on these pages telling us that he would be their worse enemy. Do you know who that was?🤣🤣

i think some people need to learn what corruption is instead of using the word soo freely and placing allegations on anyone they want.

if it took Imran three decades to become the Party Chairman of a party that he himself created, than that only shows how slow and bad he was as a politician.

if it took Imran three decades to become the Party Chairman of a party that he himself created

It takes time to transition from being a cricket captain to leading a political party. The abundance of "leaders" born into high positions in PDM-aligned parties means that PDM supporters may not appreciate the value of hard work.

if it took Imran three decades to become the Party Chairman of a party that he himself created, than that only shows how slow and bad he was as a politician.

That's precisely what I'm trying to say. Why put in the effort when you can have things handed to you on a platter? I'm confident that if Naqvi decides to, he could obtain any position he desires, except for the President and Prime Minister seats, which can be obtained in the future if Naqvi plays his cards right.

It would be as if Imran Khan went from being a cricket debutant to captain, then became a political party leader, all while still being the cricket team's captain, within a matter of mere weeks. However, even then, Imran's positions would be less prestigious than the positions that are being given to Naqvi. Can you not see the absurdity in all of this?

It's hard for me to understand the PDM mind.

i think some people need to learn what corruption is instead of using the word soo freely and placing allegations on anyone they want.
What do you expect for PTI supporters. They are the missing link between Neanderthals and modern intelligent humans (homo sapiens).

What is the 5 year plan from this new chairman? Any concrete plans? Any roadmap? Or this another journeyman using PCB as a stepping stone? What a bunch of fraudsters. I am sure he is already cooking the books to siphon some Dubai spending money.

What do you expect for PTI supporters. They are the missing link between Neanderthals and modern intelligent humans (homo sapiens).

I'm sorry to say, but your post seems to be based on delusion.

It is not appropriate for someone to simultaneously hold positions as the PCB chairman and interior minister, particularly if they are not qualified for either role.

It seems that expecting people to follow basic common sense and moral principles is too much to ask for these days.

What is the 5 year plan from this new chairman? Any concrete plans? Any roadmap? Or this another journeyman using PCB as a stepping stone? What a bunch of fraudsters. I am sure he is already cooking the books to siphon some Dubai spending money.

The plan is to farm these positions to gain political capital for future use. It will be interesting to see if Naqvi has enough shame to resign from the PCB chairmanship and continue to torture Pakistan through the interior ministry alone.

To be fair, chairman's role and interior minister roles are integrated as the PCB chairman relies on the countries chairman to do most of things for Cricket.

But i think, he will most likely be replaced as Chairman now.

No issues if he holds both post (if the law allows it)
No issues ? The only way this could possibly work is by appointing a full-time Chief Executive and relegating himself to a figurehead Chairman.

Otherwise he's significantly compromising national security by not working as a full-time Interior Minister.

We criticised the Mickey Arthur job sharing situation, but this is another level of farce and unprecedented even in our history where the PCB Chairman is also a Cabinet Minister. Now I'm reading he also wants to run for Senate !

The PCB may require certain laws to be passed, so this is also acceptable. By saying that, I'm admitting that I'm a member of a cult that holds the belief that PDM is infallible and can never do any wrong. :)

It cannot be overstated how much damage these individuals cause to Pakistan.

If the majority wants to eat dirt, does that mean it makes it correct?

If the majority wants to eat dirt, does that mean it makes it correct?

If they did, then it would be their democratic right, but fortunately for us, the majority doesn't want to eat dirt, only the overrepresented minority does, and they are actively consuming it in large quantities.

Naqvi and PDM would represent dirt in that analogy, and "consuming" would represent support.

The supreme authority does not view the will of the majority as anything but eating dirt unfortunately, and they will not allow the country to go to the dogs just because the majority want something which they feel is right.

I agree with the supreme authority/decision makers in this instance. We do not want a repeat of history (outside of Pakistan as well) where the country goes on to create a world disaster just because the majority is mislead.

This guy is good and comes from successful delivery. If he is really able to modernize our stadiums that will be a huge success!

Fascism definition -

"A political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition."

Democracy is overrated. It doesn’t work everywhere. First, as a nation you must become competent enough to have a democratic process that will work in accordance to the best democratic process established in the most advanced nations.

You literally support fascism in Pakistan. So calling you a fascist wouldn't just be an opinion, it'd be fact.

As far as I know, PTI have won elections in a region of Pakistan and are the government in authority over there. So was that also be caused of fascism?

If you look at these criminals, the gun is their last refuge. They can't defend any policies and just like the local gangsters (in this case .5mn) they are brazen about their criminality.

As per reports, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is starting the process of restructuring the board after returning from the ICC meeting in Dubai and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final on Monday.

The chairman wants to bring in his strong but small management team of professionals and a proposal to eliminate several departments is under consideration.

In his meeting with Chief Financial Officer Javed Murtaza, reduction of unnecessary expenses and volume of salaries were discussed. Most of the officers and lower level employees who came to the board during the Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf era will find it difficult to retain their positions.

In consultation with Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer, they have taken a detailed briefing from Finance, HR Departments in recent days. Meanwhile, a briefing has been taken from Director International Usman Wahla about which international series Pakistan cricket team has to play in the next few years.

Massive appointments have been made in the last two years and past chiefs have appointed their favorites and they will also be sent home. Outsourced hiring despite overstaffing in some sectors will also be discouraged.

It should be noted that Mohsin Naqvi wants to run PCB in a better way by bringing his management team and in this regard all the situation will be clear before Eid.

New coach to take over within ten days: Mohsin Naqvi

KARACHI: Pakistan’s cricket chief Mohsin Naqvi on Monday announced that the national team’s new head will be roped in within the next ten days.

With the T20 World Cup in the United States and Caribbean islands just a few months away, Mohsin admitted that it was a race against time for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to bring in the head coach and finalise the rest of the coaching staff.

It is understood that the PCB has been looking for a foreign coach after letting Mickey Arthur go in the wake of Pakistan’s World Cup failure last year, But Naqvi said that the Board will now bring in the “best possible” person, either foreign or local, to take charge of Pakistan’s misfiring team ahead of the assignment in the Americas.

“I assure you that we will appoint the head coach within the next one week or ten days,” Naqvi told reporters here at the National Bank Stadium on the sidelines of the HBL PSL final between Multan Sultans and Islamabad United.

Naqvi refrained from disclosing any details about the new appointment stressing that leaked and false information forced Australia’s Shane Watson to drop out of the race for the post of Pakistan coach. “Some false reports (about the appointment of the coach) caused a lot of harm to Pakistan cricket,” he said.

Naqvi said that Pakistan’s top cricketers will be attending a boot camp in the hills of Abbottabad from March 25 and he would want that they are accompanied by the new coach. The PCB chairman also spoke on a variety of other issues, stressing that Pakistan will leave no stone unturned in its bid to host next year’s ICC Champions Trophy despite all odds.

But he avoided talking about the elephant in the room -- India who have flatly refused to send their team to Pakistan in the past -- saying that PCB will knock at every door to ensure that the Champions Trophy is held successfully in Pakistan.

Last year Pakistan were forced to adopt a so-called hybrid model to host the Asia Cup after India refused to play here. Most of the games including the final were moved to Sri Lanka as a few relatively insignificant games were held in Pakistan.

There are fears that the Champions Trophy could suffer a similar fate but Naqvi said that he is not thinking about it. “We are just thinking about having the Champions Trophy in Pakistan,” he stressed effectively saying that PCB will cross the bridge when it comes to it.

Naqvi said he had a meeting with Jay Shah, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) kingpin in Dubai on the sidelines of an ICC moot last week but refrained from giving any details of the interaction.

He said that the PCB will carry out extensive development work at the three premier stadia of the country in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi in the lead up to the Champions Trophy. He also hinted at downsizing the PCB, which many fear is sinking under its own weight.

When asked about whether he would carry out major changes in the PCB, Naqvi said: “There are 900 people (working for the PCB) to manage 11 players.” Naqvi said that to make the PCB financially viable, he would need to carry out appropriate steps.

I hope they bring in quality coaches and not hire any of the people who have already worked with Pakistan national team and failed to produce good results.

It's better to have a full time coach who lives in Pakistan and has daily involvement with the coaches at NCA. We don't need a part time zoom coach who only turns up for overseas tours.

Questions have been raised about whether it was right to give two such important positions to one man and whether Mohsin Naqvi, despite his reputation as a doer, will be able to cope with the burden of the dual responsibilities. And the question was asked again when Naqvi interacted with the Karachi media for the first time after taking over as PCB chairman here at the National Bank Stadium Monday night.

Asked whether he can juggle both jobs, Naqvi smiled and then said that he thinks he can. "Yes I can manage both," he said but decided against saying much about it. A few minutes later, he was asked the same question again and his response wasn't different.

In fact he was non-committal on most issues, responding with one-liners to most questions that mattered. However, he did hint at carrying out long-term plans including downsizing the PCB which he said has almost 900 employees.

Congratulations, everyone! We now have a part-time chairman and a part-time interior minister. I might need to check if a circus is hiring; I'm sure Naqvi would be interested. We need to be cautious, or else being qualified for a jab might end up being outlawed, with all the Naqvi types running around nowadays.

PDM is turning into a rather unfunny joke.

I watched his whole press conference. Talks in such high platitudes. I have very low hopes for him. I hope I am surprised.

It will be interesting to see who the PCB appoint as the new head coach.

It seems it could be Hesson.

I have always said these fake admin staff who are there due to their political connections in the PCB need relinquishing ASAP.

900 people is ludicrous and disgraceful.

will probably last 5 weeks before being replaced by someone else as the PCB merry go round continues.

For me the litmus test of the competence of a PCB Chairman is how they handle the Shan Masood situation.

It boils my blood to see the worst batsman in Pakistan cricket history captaining the Test team.

Mike Brearley existed once. He was a passenger with the bat but made up for it with his excellent tactical captaincy and man management. The best player in the team doesn't necessarily deserve to be the captain.
