Organisers have changed the playing regulations for Sunday's Men's T20 World Cup final in Melbourne to allow more time in case of rain stoppages.

England meet Pakistan at 08:00 BST on Sunday but showers are forecast.

A reserve day is scheduled for Monday but, with more rain forecast, two hours have been added to allow play to continue late into Monday evening.

If a 10-over-per-side contest cannot be played then England and Pakistan will be declared joint winners.

England reached the final with a comprehensive 10-wicket demolition of India in Adelaide on Thursday, while Pakistan strolled to a seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in the other semi-final, played on Wednesday.

The tournament's playing conditions state "every effort" will be made to complete the final on Sunday rather than using the reserve day, even if they require a shortened contest.

If the reserve day is required the match will continue from Sunday, rather than be restarted.

It will be played under the same playing conditions as the last ball bowled the previous day, meaning if a 10-over-per-side match starts on Sunday the final would be played to the same length on Monday.

The addition of two extra hours means there are seven hours and 10 minutes to fit in a match on the reserve day.

If required play will start at 04:00 GMT.

Rain has dogged matches in Melbourne during this tournament with England's meeting with Australia in the group stage one of three games at the venue washed out.

England were also beaten by Ireland on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method after rain brought an early end to their match at the same ground.

If it is rained off does Eng get the trophy for hitting most boundaries?

This is a good move from ICC but at the end, not much they can do if it continues raining.

This may sound stupid, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Put some cranes around the stadium holding a sheet that covers the entire roof from the top. 🤯

I tend to trust bbc weather over metoffice. There’s been some better signs for Sundays game from 7pm until midnight, with chances of rain around 20% at 7pm until midnight.

Should just shift the match to Sydney. Refund the Melbourne ticket holders.

I agree refund tickets, hold the match at another venue in Australia. Surely that should be the most important thing ensuring the final can be played. As I’m sure people would get some sort of refund on a rained off game too regardless. Just makes sense, it would be an absolute shame to play the World Cup and not actually get to see the 2 best teams play the final.

I also agree with the above posters, there is a reason why an indoor stadium has been built in Melbourne. Build it instead of making it a miserable day with weather and possibly having to endure a Duckworth Lewis farce.

What's the capacity of the ground which has a roof ? They maybe hesitant to move the game if the seated capacity will be very lower than the Giant MCG.

It doesn't matter. The rain forecast is pretty dire. Get ready to twiddle your thumbs for two days.

But they are better off moving it there considering India are out

The MCG will most likely only by 70% full

Around 50,000. However, it would be near impossible for the ICC to shift the game. Furthermore, I'm not sure if the ground would even be ready for a cricket game as the first scheduled cricket game at the stadium is still in more than a month's time.
