Full name Khushdil Shah

Born February 7, 1995, Bannu, North-West Frontier Province

Major teams FATA, FATA Cheetas

Batting style Left-hand bat

Interest in cricket

I used to play tape-ball cricket in the streets around my home and initially there was a lot of opposition to my enthusiasm to play the game. The elders were of the view that I should work on my education so that I could get a good job and support my family who weren’t that well off. My cousin, Fawad Khan, who was a cricketer himself stepped in and encouraged me to continue with cricket as he could see a lot of potential in me.

Club Cricket

On the insistence of my cousin, I started to play hard-ball cricket with the Super Star Club in Bannu but I didn’t like playing at that level and I soon gave up on that. Fawad persisted with me and got me a place in Abbottabad Under-16 trials. In fact, he literally dragged me out of my home to take part in the trials. Thankfully I was selected and I was considered the best all-rounder in 2009.

Playing in regional Under-19

Based on my performance in the Pepsi PCB Cricket Stars Under-16s Tournament in October 2010, I was asked to attend a regional camp in 2010. Unfortunately, despite my progress at that point, I was unable to play for Pakistan Under-19s due to an injury on my hand. I did however play in the regional Under-19s for FATA in the Inter-District Under 19 Tournament 2012.

Playing First-class cricket for FATA

The FATA regional team played qualifying rounds in Grade-II cricket where we beat Karachi, Faisalabad and Abbottabad and qualified to play First-class cricket in October 2015. That game was a memorable one for me as my First-class debut was against a very strong Habib Bank team which had names like Abdur Rehman, Umar Gul and Fakhar Zaman in their line-up. The game was drawn but I ended up with scores of twenty-eight and forty-three. I was nervous but then again, we had played some tough games before so I wasn’t overawed by the occasion.

Left-arm spin and ambitions to become a batting all-rounder

I do wish to develop my spin-bowling as well but our FATA team is pretty strong in that department. We have four excellent spinners in the team so I haven’t had that much chance to bowl or develop myself. Obviously as specialist spinners they get to bowl more but I want to develop myself as a batting all-rounder.

Successful First-class season in 2016

2016 turned out to be an excellent year for me. I took part in the "Kaun Bane Ga KPK Ka Champion T20 tournament" organized by the Peshawar Zalmi organization and alongside Rifatullah Mohmand, I was one of the top run-getters for FATA. This proved to be good preparation for the 2016 Quaid-e-Azam trophy. I scored very well in the first four games but then the performances tapered off as we approached the Super Eights stage. I feel that I could have scored much more but some of the pitches we got were really not conducive for batting and teams were getting out on low scores. I know that I put in a lot of hard work in preparation for this season, including participating in a Peshawar Zalmi tournament ahead of the start of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy where I was one of the top batsmen.

Preferred Format and batting position

Despite doing well for FATA in First-class games, I love batting in the shorter formats of the game and prefer a middle-order role in the batting line-up. This is because my team management feel that my batting is at a level where I can play an important role in building and controlling my team’s innings. They feel that I can play the big shots when necessary as well as stabilize the innings when needed.

Favourite batsmen

Amongst Pakistan batsmen, I absolutely love the way Sharjeel Khan plays but Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh are my non-Pakistani favourites.

Hopes of playing in the PSL for Peshawar Zalmi

I am honoured and extremely happy that my name has been picked by Peshawar Zalmi for the upcoming PSL 2017 tournament. This has been great news for me but also family and friends have been overjoyed by the news that I could be featuring in a high-profile tournament such as the PSL. The true credit for this must go to Mohammad Akram and Shahid Afridi for their interest in my career. They had both seen me play well for the Shahid Afridi foundation team in matches held in Ramadan recently and that must have had a factor in my selection for the Zalmi team.

Aspirations for the future

I believe that all this hard work I am doing and have done in the past has only been done for one reason and that is to represent my country. That is all I am aiming for and you will see me put in more efforts whenever I am given a chance to try and impress selectors about my skills and talents.

Another very confident young man but am just worried that he is more interested in the shorter form of the game

Wouldn't mind having a player who was suited for the shorter format, I hope he makes it into the team.

Well, considering Pakistan's long term slump in the shorter formats of the game, new players who excel in LOs are the need of the hour IMO.

108 in 114 balls for FATA v Isb in National One Day Cup Round 3 today

made a thread on him few years back when everyone was making fun out here on his name khushdil but not seeing his talent how he was hitting zulfi and Irfan at their peak.

Heard good things about this lad and he seems to be getting better.

One to keep an eye on.

Made 102* today in the National OD Cup vs Lahore Whites off just 93 balls in tough batting conditions.
He also hit 11 fours and 4 sixes.

Just seems to be getting better and better.

Zalmi should drop sohaib maqsood and bring him in .he deserves a chance than ttf like sohaib maqsood who is

way too inconsistent

PZ's selections have been pathetic. Dropped Asghar for Junaid of all people.

And then we say no emerging batsman showed up, They don't even select such guys or give them a chance

Daren sammy has put down his hands to drop so called senior player hafeez who should have been dropped after first two games i hope they drop hafeez to do themselves a favor else they will struggle in batting and also disappointed with juni he should have done better but i agree asghar should never been dropped on any kind of surface or ground

This guy has been hard done by the Zalmi management. He is one of the best batting talents to come out of Pakistan. He is the kind of batsman required by Pakistan to play at no. 6 who can provide impetus at the end of the innings.

khushdil should be in the t20 squad. This should be the squad for next T20 series:

1. Shehzad
2. Fakhar Zaman
3. Babar Azam
4. Malik
5. Sarfaraz
6. Hasan Khan
7. Shadab Khan
8. Aamer Yamin
9. Wahab Riaz
10. Amir
11. Hassan Ali

Bench; Amad Butt, Rumman Raees, Khushdil Shah, Rizwan

Surely this lad has to get a game ? Its time to say alvida to both Hafeez and Maqsood.

Incredible that consistent failures have been given many chances yet this guy has not been given a chance.

He has been hard done by the Zalmi management. He could have atleast played the last match as Zalmi had already qualified. And then we cry there is no batting talent in Pakistan when we don't give these players chances to showcase their talent.

Him and Haris should both come in for Hafeez and Maqsood.

Zalmi must take that gamble.

I'd also bring Malan back in for Samuels who seems to be out of it.

Tamim
Kamran
Malan
Haris
Shakib
Khushdil
Sammy
Afridi
Hasan
Wahab
Asghar

Gun line-up.

Finally gets a game today - lets see how he does!

Rubbish!!! Looks worse than Rizwan. Have no clue against moving ball

Another producy of overhype machine, who have no idea of how actual batting works.

In his favor, we can't really rule him out after 1 match.

Khushdil shah_Performance watch

Hey i was just late night sometime after matches at ramzan tournament look score and always find khushdil shah score usualy at every match with rest of his team fail .also bowl lil bit spin.
I don't have any idea about him .but he was emerging player of peshawar zalimi team.any have any thoughts about him?

As I've pointed out before he's a hack, absolutely nothing player.

His stance and grip is just god awful.

this time unluckily no psl franchise for him.....last time played for peshawar.he has good head on his shoulder.

103 off 86 balls today for WAPDA in the One Day Cup with 4 fours and 8 sixes. Came in to bat at 110/4, WAPDA finished with 272.

Wasn't really impressed much when I saw him bat but he's been trusted by a strong team like WAPDA; played quite a few matches in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and is now batting at #6 in the One Day Cup.

Been in great form this tournament. Scored an 80 ball 93 today and was run out 7 short of a deserved century.

Today scored 45 off 52 balls. And he played a key part in FATA defending their score with 10-1-38-2 including the wicket of Umar Akmal. A good PSL for Zalmi and he may find himself in the Pakistan team soon.

Fata Region 320-8 in 50 overs: (Khushdil Shah 96, 85 balls, 8x4s, 1x6,Mukhtar Ahmed 77, 69 balls, 7x4s, 3x6s, Fawad Khan 52, 55 balls, 5x4s, 4x6s, Ahsan Hafeez Bhatti 39, 49 balls, 3x4s, Saud Shakeel 2-48, Yasir Ali 2-49)

Rawalpindi Region 324-5 in 49-5 overs: (Saud Shakeel 134*, 122 balls, 15x4s, 1x6, Iftikhar Ahmed 91, 89 balls, 9x4s, 1x6, Behram Khan 35, 28 balls, 4x4s, Zeeshan Malik 23, 22 balls, 3x4s, Sohail Akhtar 2-27)

Have a feeling Khushdil Shah and Hussain Talat in the same Pakistan team in a couple of years could become a destructive partnership. High hopes for both of them.

This would be a top tier batting line up for List A cricket

Khushdil needs to be drafted into LOI and should bat at #6. No need for useless Shoaib Malik or Hafeez.

Didn't take his chance today. Out for 8 from 11 balls.

Good going for Khushdil - 57* atm for Balochistan

Khushdil Shah scored 110 of 112 balls, albeit in a losing cause but he is climbing up the ladder.

Khushdil Shah 122*, 114 balls, 12x4s, 4x6s playing for FATA against SNGPL.

Another century by the youngster, Khushdil Shah scored 100 of 107 balls.

Highlights of his century vs NBP (in a losing cause). Don't bowl spin to him whatever you do!

Khushdil Shah the rare breed

This lad is hardly mentioned on pakpassion despite having some great stats. The one thing about him that got my attention apart from the fact he averages 45 at 95sr is that he has already hit 67 sixes in his short list A career.

Not only that, but as we have recently seen he is more than decent with the ball. I reckon this young lad can be the perfect replacement for hafeez. Even an upgrade over him.

from what i have saw of him so far he has bizarre batting stance than sami aslam but also very poor against fast bowling.he have never impress me seems like another spin basher

Would like to see him for PSL before he's considered for the LOIs (and potentially for the WC). Excellent stats those.

Excellent match winning innings of 65 today containing six sixes. What impressed me is how easily he clears the ropes. This lad definitely needs to be in our LOI squads.

65 off 40 balls today and Man of the Match as well!

When he hits it, it stays hit :murali

That six of Tanvir was monstrous. Some huge shots but looks to favor the leg side a bit too much.

Remember hearing the hype of this guy on PP years ago and yet he is under achieving at domestic level. Have seen him play in PSL and even there he looked out of his depth.

People in Pakistan seriously do not want to come out to watch them play.

No wonder nobody in the UAE bothers to come and watch them in the grounds.

How bad it is to see empty grounds even at this time of the year in Pakistan.

Apart from explosive batting, this guy, Khushdil can bowl, probably as effective as Imad or Nawaz in 50 overs game. His FC stats are similar to Asif, but List A stats are excellent - ~1800 runs at 44/94 with 6/10 Fifty/Hundred in 34 innings. And, he hardly got chance to bat in top 4 - most of these 50+ scores were made from No. 5 or lower. His boundary hitting ratio is excellent (128X4 & 67X6 - 52% of total runs), and he is a lefti.

Can't do worse than Asif Ali.

No room for Shah in ODIs atm, but Pak., has an open spot in T20Is. I don't think Asif is cut out for international cricket. He is a specialist player for last 5 overs, which is not needed.

FZ-Babar-Khushdil-Malik can be tried as a top 4 in T20Is.

Looks like his strength is the on-side.

Seems like a batsman who has a very bottom-handed technique.
