The reverse swing was murdered, the doosra died in an accident, and now the beautiful hook shot is dead. What next?

I have not seen a single hook played by the batsmen in any of the limited overs cricket in recent past. Thanks to the rule makers who thoroughly make things harder and harder for the bowlers.

If we really want to see quality than I would say that allow bowlers to bowl at least 2 bouncers an over / block and allow it to be up to 2 inch above head height. This way we will see how these modern day hacks can get away with things. I am kinda fed up of seeing 10-12 runs an over being scored like child’s play these days. A boundary does not give the same excitement as it used to in them good old days.

Something really needs to be done!

Think batsmen think twice/thrice, then look at the dressing room and then decide not to play it!

In case you didn't know what it was....

The best player of the hook shot I ever saw was Gordon Greenidge. It didn't matter who the bowler was or how quick they were, he would take them on.

I guess these days pitches are flatter and not as quick, the one bouncer per over rule also has had an impact on just how much the shot is played.

Ian Chappel must have been in his 60s when this video was done , remarkable how well he got into position to play those hook shots.

Aside from Babar Azam’s cover drive, I can’t think of any current Pakistani international level batsman at the peak of their career who could give a demo in the nets of playing any shot as well as a 60 year old Ian Chappel, never mind the hook shot.

Some very poor feeds by whoever was on the other side. Hardly got any high enough for him to hit properly.
