I was big hulkamaniac myself in 2002. It is just when fan started to get the inside secrets of wrestling after internet became common & every wrestler started shooting on each other on youtube, that fans started to learn about his dark side & got to know how many guys careers he had screwed.

I still respect hogan for what he did to the business. If it weren't for him, wwe & especially wrestlemania wouldn't be as popular. But his rating in top 10 has taken a huge hit after internet era. Before internet era, he was always the number one guy in any top 10 wrestler list by lot of wrestling magazines. But now folks place him at 6/7/8 due to his backstage politics & other revelations.

Not dissing his wrestling status at all. He is easily in my pov among the top 10 greatest wrestlers of all time.

But he did bury a lot of guys who had potential in the 2000's, Lot of guys growth was stunted or blocked by his politics (CM punk, Jeff hardy, Kurt angle, Daniel Bryan, Steiner & many others). To be fair, he did put some of the guys over, but he did screw a lot with them initially. Even with Bryan, fans had to get behind him for two years or more to force HHH & Vince's hand, otherwise he was just gonna be another name in long list of talented guys that were blocked by HHH.

90% of the time he easily makes the top 3 or 5 across most respected publications although he's not in my top 3 unless we're purely rating stars on drawing power and influence, even amongst smark's in the post internet era while you will find more haters he generally has always enjoyed a lot more support because all these wrestling fans who are now in their 30s / beyond remember how he made their child hood. Now Toronto is a hardcore wrestling city and even in that moment there were so many dirt sheets about and everything Hogan did during his WCW run especially was common knowledge but they still embraced him, only Hogan is able to recover from all these controversies and still enjoy appeal across the board because of how huge he is. Recently he was seen with Hunter at the HBO special for Andre the Giant doc, WWE could bring him back at some point

CM Punk was doing some pretty cool stuff before too, I liked him leading the straight edge society and then he was at his peak when he dropped the pipebomb couple of years ago. In terms of Daniel Bryan, they gave him the best possible match to win the title, first beat triple H and then on the same night beat orton and batista to win the title on the grandest stage of them all. Nobody can say they have done that. Yes they took a little while to give him the chance, but I had my doubts about daniel bryan too who was also in my eyes a B+ player amongst the competition.

However, in the current time, seeing Daniel bryan come back after his career was supposedly over is a great story. I want to see AJ Styles vs Daniel Bryan headlining a major PPV sometime soon, they could do that at next year's Wrestlemania.
 
Taker returned to the site where the streak ended and basically squashed Cena :))) It was brilliant, everything was executed beautifully especially the bluff with Elias. The Phenom's origins have always been that of a man who absolutely destroys his opposition so it was a great fairy tale win for him and he looked in terrific condition and was moving very well, last year he was carrying a hip injury and couldn't train properly but was a lot more refreshed this time and got his redemption win. Never doubt this man, there's only one Undertaker.
 
Don't know how anyone can call a wrestler "the best of all time" when the entire thing is fixed, theatrical and stage managed:)):)) Best what off all time?. Hulk Hogan will always be the father of modern WWF/WWE there is no doubt about that. He and Vince McMahon are the ones who made it this big when "The Undertaker" was a no one in the old WCW wrestling under a different character.
 
John Cena was the only reason why Wrestlemania probably sold as much as it did. The best build up to a feud and it wasnt even a match that WWE marketed.

This is like saying why can Ali be called the best of all time when his field is boxing. Am sure you're smart enough to comprehend the best of all time was mentioned within the confines of the pro wrestling world.

Hogan / Vince helped take the industry main stream and Flair put it on the map during the territory era. But Taker has outlasted everyone and has one hell of a resume plus is a mainstream draw himself, no one commands as much respect amongst his peers and pro wrestling experts so a case can be made for him definetly.

What exactly is the pro-wrestling world?. How can anyone be called the best wrestler when the result is known before the bout starts? There is no comparison, Ali's matches were not decided before punches were exchanged. Longevity is no criteria of being called the best in any Sport let alone a theatrical circus like the WWE:)) For what it's worth I reckon Shawn Michaels was probably the best in ring performer when I watched it years back.

Seriously are you having a laugh, why can't wrestlers be ranked within their field ? they are not rated based on the pre-determined nature or wins / losses but on individual performance, character work, influence / impact etc
 
Longevity is an admirable quality alongside others in sport, Wladmir reigned for nearly a decade as the lineal world champion just behind Joe Louis
 
Taker is the GOAT of the WWE. Guy has it all and has done it all and what's more, has remained loyal to the company for decades. Not an easy thing to do. Hope we can see Taker compete at Wrestlemania 40, in some capacity, and of course, in all Wrestlemanias until then.

My top five:

1) Shawn Michaels
2) Undertaker
3) Rob Van Dam
4) The Shield (You just can't separate the three).
5) Mustafa Ali

Michaels got me into WWE (first match I ever saw was him vs Jericho); Undertaker turned me into a hardcore fan; RVD saved WWE for me (ECW One Night Stand); The Shield have kept me invested over the last few years and I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing how far Ali can go.

What a strange coincidence, my first exposure to the product was the attitude era even though I have now watched a great deal from bygone eras, but Shawn unfortunately was suffering from a career ending back injury and outside the stuff he did with the original incarnation of DX I never got to see him perform during his peak until he returned in 2002 which I thoroughly enjoyed but it was the feud with Jericho that just blew me away and the stuff they did, the match they had at WM19 made me a hardcore HBK fan and the funny thing was many like me didn't know he had such an incredible run in the 90s and many experts had already hailed him as the best in-ring performer, I remember reading it in magazines in the early 2000s. Then he would go on to have arguably an even better run in the 2000s. He is rumoured to be returning in Saudi and then a potential singles match with Taker at Survior Series.

It's funny, I started buying myself VHS tapes of WWF since 1994 simply because back then my parents back then didn't allow cable TV in our home :))

It was though those video tapes that I saw Michaels's best work till that time. And very soon I started watching WWF on cable TV and I was mesmerized by his work. The way he used to sell, his faster paced style of wrestling, his charisma, mic work ..... he was bloody second to none. No other wrestler entertained me more than the HeartBreak Kid. Funny how back till the mid 90's, most us thought wrestling to be real, simply because we had no internet. And yet he remained my favorite wrestler despite being a hell in DX.

He was, is, and will always remain the best performer ever. Yes, Flair is just as much of a favorite of mine, I have such crazy respect for that legend. But I'd pick Michaels ahead of him just by a hair.

You can't go wrong with either choices, from a pure in-ring POV I prefer HBK. Very few can match Ric's resume though in terms of consistency over a large sample and schedule, his life literally was the business. Both are incredible and HBK was inspired by Ric, a product of personified legend. The match the two had at WM24 was special. Very lucky you witnessed his prime in those days, did you prefer his work in the 90s decade or 2000s ? having watched both now it's hard for me to split the two. And btw Shawn recently shaved all his hair :))

He owes us and the company absolutely nothing. Moreover his legs are gone and for a big unit to be still going at his age this long he is in excruciatingly pain constantly, there is footage of him getting various injections prior to his matches which have now been cut out documentaries after a few complaints.

What is even more mind boggling is having him work 25+minutes and that too with someone like HHH who is very one dimensional and methodical, he never made life easier for Taker despite being the younger man and in better shape; then again it also comes down to his limited skills. Someone like an AJ Styles or Seth Rollins would take much better care of Taker in the ring and give him the respect he deserves, we don't want to see Taker as a shadow and those elite talents can help in that regard. So unless he takes part in squash matches like the one vs Cena at mania I don't have any issues with it, the matches that are a bit longer need to be against performers in their prime/peak.

Triple H for me has too much of an ego. He thinks he can pull of 30 minute classics but in reality he just fails every time. He did the same formula vs reigns and Rollins and it failed. Undertaker is finished in terms of putting on long classics anymore. He won’t retire and who would blame him when they are throwing so much money at him. But his matches should not be longer than ten minutes. Interested to see if Shawn still has it.
 
Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were both better the the Undertaker. The "dead man" was to predictable. Randy "Macho Man" Savage was also better then The Undertaker. I would rate him with in the boring category with of Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior.

Unfortunately, I think these legends need all the bells and whistles they can get to hide how old they are now. I'm sure Taker is getting a huge paycheck from working these shows and it is good to know that wrestling fans from across the world can get to see him live. That dinner they all had in Saudi was good to see because you could tell that the superstars were so happy at being treated so well and the Saudi fans were happy that they in turn were getting respect from the stars.

I can't wait for the tag team match at Crown Jewel but I hope it is not the main event.

This is WWE. In-ring ability is not everything and although Taker had far less in-ring ability than Michaels and Hart, he was far better than them at the other aspects of the business.

I have not watched taker in 2 years. The last match i watched of him was versus shane o mac in 2016. Even then I couldn't stand to see him limp with pot belly to perform for us guys. He has always been a company man & real stand up guys. Sadly WWE is treating him they way they used andre in the late 80's when he had way too many inuries & was a very limited worker. Yet vince would utilize him time to time to sell tickets & generate good money. Seeing Andre's documentary, we know now that those matches didn't help his issues, they further aggravated his problems.

I don't want taker to go to the same route. I always want to remember him as that athletic guy of the 90's/2000's. Also triple h doesn't do good in short matches. I have been watching him since 1997, i don't remember him having short matches with anyone. That is how his style has always been, wrestling 15-20 minute long matches with slow in the beginning & then upping the pace gradually (just like ric flair used to do).

Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels at their peak were more marketable then The Undertaker. It was only when Bret retired that The Undertaker was promoted to the top league. Bret had great business sense as well. Those pink glasses he had were a rage in it's day.

It wasn't painful, the finishing stretch was though. It was one hell of a spectacle from the entrances to the short high impact layout similar to Brock/Goldberg at Mania not so long ago so they had the right idea and the pacing was excellent; however this meant Goldberg was not going to have a lot left towards the end and also he was out on his feet with a concussion.

If I was too book the match I would have got the Jack Hammer spot out the way early on when both men are at 100% and instead of going for the dreaded Tombstone reversal spot (why they went for this is beyond me, Taker/Reigns couldn't pull it off either and in this case when you factor in how heavy the two involved are and their age it wasn't going to be pretty) I would have Taker chokeslam Goldberg from the middle rope for the finish.

Taker is only working at the moment as a favour for Vince, he just can't help saying no to him unfortunately he just has too much pride but would prefer retirement. The match was no where near as bad as people are making it out to be, they are just disrespectful hipsters who get off on wrestlers doing a couple of flips these days even if it means botching a million times and putting themselves at way more risk; for example Brock / Angle at mania 19 was incredible but hipsters again only recall the finish.

These events in saudi are glorified house shows, people take them way too seriously and expect in-ring classics, by now fans should know what to expect from the WWE product and these types of events are spectacles more then anything else yet people always whinge/moan and watch regardless.

Beyond the main-event, I thought the stuff between Brock/Seth was excellent to prolong their feud, Balor/Andrade was great, HHH/Orton was another HHH vanity match from the early 2000's where HHH's ego just has no bounds and his lack of in-ring ability couldn't be more massively exposed once again without the smokes and mirrors; he moved around methodically working in 1 gear whilst doing a bad imitation of Harley race, he is unable to adapt or show any kind of in-ring awareness but thankfully he was working with Orton who is aware of these weakneses and ensured the closing portion of the match was decent.

What are they planning on doing? Some ring segment farewell?
 
[MENTION=46929]shaz619[/MENTION] I caught up with some of the more recent WWE stuff since the last time we spoke. The one thing that really stood out for me was the Bray Wyatt "The Fiend" character. A match between him and the Undertaker would really have been something to see.

Other wrestlers who impressed me and could have been amazing in Attitude, Ruthless Aggression era: Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and heel Drew McIntyre.
 
Undertaker deserves alot of credit for going as long as he did. Eventhough his last great WrestleMania match was way back at WrestleMania 29 against CM Punk. I liked the stuff he did with Lesnar at SummerSlam 2015 and Hell in A Cell. But beyond that, there's a lot of bad to mediocre stuff.

Still, hats off to arguably the greatest legend in the business. No one has given more to wrestling than him, other than maybe Flair but back then wrestling itself was so different. Another reason I think he is and always will be remembered so fondly is because of the personality he was in the locker room. Legit never heard any wrestler say a bad thing about him, rather they always speak about him as the leader of the locker room, or someone who helped them out with advice or tips. Speaks greatly to his character, as someone who wanted to protect the business more than his own spot. Which is more than you can say about someone like Hogan.
 
This man was the reason I got into WWE/WWF. Sadly my interest faded around the 2010s around the time where he was featuring less and less.

I was shocked to hear about his 2 Wrestlemania losses in recent years.

Yes that is one thing I always take, even the worst journalists in the industry have never written anything negative about him and the respect he commands in the locker room is astronomical. Anyone else playing the character would have failed in the 90s era of goofy gimmicks, Undertaker took his persona very seriously and made adjustments where necessary / evolved, even holding in his in-ring ability in the early days purely for the sake of his character despite being so athletic and agile for a man his size, but we'd see more of that side as he transitioned between personas towards the late 90s and into the 2000's. Ric Flair is the GOAT and Shawn is the best in-ring performer I have ever seen, but in a way Undertaker has superseded both for me as a fan, he has outlasted everyone and I don't think another star will have a connection with the fans like Taker did. Farewell to the legend if it truly is the end, there have been some mediocre showings which he was very open about on the documentary series The Last Ride (amazing stuff) but at least he gets to go off on a massive high after the match with AJ Styles at mania which I enjoyed a lot.

In another time would definitely have loved to see a prime Taker go at it with the Fiend persona, Bray Wyatt is a special talent and would have fit nicely in any era and the same can be said for Drew who is like a more modern version of Bruno Sammartino but can also play an amazing heel character to, Bruno was too popular to have ever been a heel lol

Agreed. Undertaker's character would never have stood the test of time had he not evolved with the times. The Big Evil persona is somewhat underrated imo so it was nice to see it brought back for the AJ Styles match.

The Fiend is the most interesting thing I have seen in WWE since forever. A match between Fiend Wyatt and Taker would have been incredible, as Taker has admitted himself. Same for McIntyre who matches up to roughly the same size as Taker and I think chemistry-wise that could have been a great match.
 
I don't think he is the greatest of all time. That title probably goes to The Rock or Hulk Hogan.

Not every sport needs to have a GOAT. WWE is unique with its characters. Different wrestlers lead the charts in terms of wrestling skills, charisma, mic skills, character portrayal, story selling, in ring presence etc.

Hogan, Flair, Austin, Rock, Taker, Bret Hart, Michaels, HHH, Cena, Brock are all up there in their own way.
 
Edge is the greatest WWE wrestler of all time all things considered. You can’t argue against it
 
After Edge I would say Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan are all equal. Maybe even Roddy Piper
 
KARACHI: The CEO of Professional Wrestling Entertainment (PWE), Zeeshan Basheer believes that Pakistan is safe for sports events and shared that they are in talks with The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan to bring them to Pakistan.

Zeeshan, a Pakistani sports enthusiast based in United Arab Emirates (UAE), had organized a professional wrestling event in 2017.

“New Zealand and England cancelled Pakistan tour and it sent out a very poor image of Pakistan. But, I believe Pakistan is safe for every kind of sport and it has hosted many sports activities in the recent past,” he said.

“We brought international stars in Pakistan back in 2017 and hosted a wrestling entertainment event. We were planning to host the second season in Pakistan but due to COVID-19 it couldn’t be possible,

“However, we have started planning again to host the second season of that event in the country. For that, we are communicating with The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan and other renowned wrestlers. Soon, we will come up with good news for Pakistanis,” he added.

In terms of popularity, charisma and popularity, Hulk Hogan is by far the greatest of all time, followed by Stone Cold and The Rock.

But The Undertaker is one of the greatest and my all time favourite. My interest in wrestling went down the moment he became a part timer after 2010. The Undertaker gave me some of my greatest memories as a kid. I love the fact that he stayed so loyal to Vince for so many years. For a lot of his career, he had to compete against crappy giants like Giant Gonzalez, Great Khali, Mabel where he was unable to showcase his wrestling ability. But when he stepped foot in the ring against the likes of HBK, HHH, Lesnar, Kurt, Batista, Edge, Bret Hart etc, he was able to showcase his wrestling ability. From Wrestlemania 23 to Wrestlmania 29, he had the best match of the night every year. His peak as a in-ring performer was between 2005-2013.

I am still ****** that the steak was ended. All the amazing matches and storylines with Randy Orton, HBK, HHH felt pointless the moment the streak was ended. What a dumb decision that was by Vince.
 
WWE superstar The Undertaker, who hung his boots after the last match at WrestleMania 36 in 2020 when he outclassed AJ Styles, was wished by the fans after he turned 57 on Thursday.

It should be noted that The Undertaker was also given a grand farewell at the Survivor Series in November last year, ending the chapter of one of the world's finest professional wrestlers ever to grace the ring.

Among many achievements during his stellar 30-year WWE career, the standout record is his impressive 23-2 record at WrestleMania, in which he only lost twice, first against Brock Lesnar and then was also thumped by Roman Reigns.
