None of those players are even good as Smith/Root lol. Smith is Australia's best since Bradman. Root best since WW II.

Even Cook/Warner/Duckett/Khawaja are better openers than any any openers Eng/Aus had in that era.

Gooch himself is a 40 averaging batsman. Botham averages in the 30s.

Ian Chappel retired in 1980. Greg in 84.

Eng/Aus were mediocre in the 80s with W/L below 1.
