pak missed many good chances in this game... But overall, I am fine with these guys' performance... There is no structure for hockey in Pakistan.

How long do you think before cricket and hockey will go to minnow level ?

I don't see a way up looking at how corruption and mismanagement is sweeping pak sporting bodies.

Pakistan decides not to send junior hockey team to India for World Cup

The government has decided not to send Pakistan’s junior hockey team to India for the upcoming Junior Hockey World Cup, officials said on Thursday.

The decision was taken after a high-level consultative meeting in Islamabad.

According to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has been informed of the government’s decision.

Sources said the move was made in view of security concerns for Pakistani players.

The Junior Hockey World Cup is scheduled to be played in India from November 28.

This stupidity will have serious consequences. Unlike cricket, hockey doesn't have multiple tournament hosts like earlier as mostly hosting is a loss . Only india is bearing the losses as its govt sponsored instead of a private companies. So govt is happy to bear the cost at the expense of public money for the sport. Every alternative tournament is hosted by india and avoiding it only hurts the team deeper.

FIH names Pakistan's replacement for Junior Hockey World Cup

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) on Wednesday confirmed that Oman would replace Pakistan in the forthcoming Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup, set to be held in India from November 28.

The decision came after Pakistan’s withdrawal from the mega event due to security concerns.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Secretary Rana Mujahid announced that the decision had been formally communicated.

“Under the prevailing circumstances, it is by no means appropriate to travel to India and play,” Mujahid said.

“Pakistan had proposed staging their matches at a neutral venue instead — a suggestion the FIH did not accept,” he added.

Following this, FIH confirmed Oman’s participation in the tournament in a press release.

Oman was included based on its ranking in the Junior Asia Cup 2024, which served as a qualifier for the Junior World Cup.

Pakistan secure spot in Hockey World Cup Qualifiers after dominant win in Dhaka

DHAKA (Dunya News) – Pakistan have booked their place in the Hockey World Cup Qualifiers after overpowering Bangladesh in Dhaka.

The national side delivered a formidable display in the second match of the three-game series, extending their unbeaten run and securing qualification with authority. The match, played at the Maulana Bhashani Stadium, showcased Pakistan’s sharp attacking rhythm and disciplined structure across all four quarters.

In the second fixture, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh 8-0, establishing full control early on and maintaining pressure throughout the encounter. The team’s consistent pace kept the hosts struggling for possession, while the visitors demonstrated precision in both build-up play and finishing. With this result, Pakistan hold an unassailable lead in the series.

Sufyan Khan was declared Player of the Match for his all-round performance, earning praise for his impact on both ends of the field. His dynamic presence played a central role in Pakistan’s overwhelming victory.

Pakistan had also dominated the opening match of the series, beating Bangladesh 8-2. The third and final match will be played on 16 November, where Pakistan will aim to complete the series without defeat.

Dominant Pakistan sweep Bangladesh in Hockey series

DHAKA: Dominant Pakistan thrashed Bangladesh 10-3 in the final game of the three-match qualifier series here at the Maulana Bhashani Stadium on Sunday.

Pakistan had already secured a spot in the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers in Belgium after registering two dominant wins in their play-off series against Bangladesh.

The Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 will take place from February 28 to March 8, 2026.

The Green Shirts remained dominant throughout the series, sweeping the hosts with comprehensive wins in all three matches.

In the final game, Pakistan put in a commendable performance, netting five goals in the first half, whereas Bangladesh managed to score only one.

The dominance continued till the end as the visitors doubled the goals and eventually outplayed them to seal an emphatic win.

Sufyan Khan was named the Top Scorer of the Tournament, while Ammad Butt was given the Best Player of the Tournament award due to his attacking game during the three-match series.

Earlier, Pakistan secured victories in the opening two games of the series with margins of 8-2 and 8-0 respectively.

It is noteworthy to mention that the series was initiated by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) after Pakistan was unable to travel to India for the Asia Cup in August and September due to strained political relations between the two neighboring countries.

Pakistan hockey team’s next assignment will be its maiden appearance in the FIH Pro League. The tournament is scheduled to kick off next month in Argentina.

The seventh edition of the competition will feature nine teams: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, Germany, India, the Netherlands, Spain, and Pakistan, with Ireland relegated after finishing last in the previous season.

The highlight of the season will undoubtedly be the clash between Pakistan and arch-rivals India, set to take place in London on June 23 and 26, 2026.

Pakistan will begin their campaign in Rosario, Argentina, where they face the Netherlands on December 10, followed by hosts Argentina on December 12. The Green Shirts will play 16 matches in total across four international legs.

Their second assignment takes them to Hobart, Australia, in February, where they go head-to-head with the hosts and Germany.

In June, Pakistan will feature in the European leg of the tournament with fixtures against Belgium and Spain in Wavre, before moving to London for the final round against England and India.

PSB announces daily allowance for player

Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) on Thursday announced that it would pay a daily allowance of $115 per player to members of the national hockey team, directing the finance department to release the payments ahead of the team’s departure in order to ensure players do not face any inconvenience during their international assignment.

Talking to the media, Director General PSB Muhammad Yasir Pirzada said the daily allowance had been approved in line with the government-sanctioned budget and that the decision covered Pakistan’s participation in the FIH Pro League.

He said the PSB had managed the payments by reallocating funds saved from various heads, despite financial constraints, to facilitate the team’s foreign tour and ensure smooth arrangements for the players.

Pakistan hockey team captain Ammad Butt welcomed the announcement and thanked the DG PSB for personally addressing the players’ concerns. He said that discussions held earlier on various matters had yielded positive results.

He said the revised rate approved under the current government budget was reasonable.

“It is not bad at all. More importantly, the daily allowance issue has been settled,” he said.

Pakistan will face Australia on February 10, Germany on February 11, Australia again on February 13, and Germany on February 14 in the second round of the FIH Pro League.

Earlier, PHF announced the squad for the Pro Hockey League and the World Cup Qualifying round.

The national contingent consists of 20 players and six officials, with the team scheduled to depart for Australia on February 2nd.

Two changes have been made to the Pro League squad: Ali Raza replaces goalkeeper Abdullah Ishtiaq. Umair Sattar joins the team in place of Mannan Raza.

The Full Squad: Muneeb-ur-Rehman, Ali Raza, Arshad Liaqat, Mohammad Abdullah, Sufyan Khan, Arbaz Ahmed, Hammad Anjum, Moin Shakeel, Ghazanfar Ali, Zakaria Liaqat, Umair Sattar, Hannan Shahid, Rana Waheed, Nadeem Ahmed, Abdul Rehman, Rana Waleed, Afraz, and Abu Bakar.

Team Officials: Head Coach Tahir Zaman, Mohammad Usman, Zeeshan Ashraf, Nadeem Lodhi, Mohammad Aslam, and Adeel.

Captain Mohammad Ammad Butt added that player morale is high and things are moving in the right direction. He expressed hope that the Prime Minister would continue to further support the national sport.

FIH Pro League: Visa issues delay Pakistan's departure for Australia

The Pakistan men's hockey team's departure from Bangkok to Sydney to participate in their forthcoming FIH Pro League matches has been delayed due to the non-issuance of Australian visas.

According to the details, the Green Shirts were originally scheduled to fly from Bangkok to Sydney on Monday night, but the visa issue has now pushed it to February 5.

For the unversed, Pakistan are set to play a total of four matches during the Australia-leg of the FIH Pro League from February 10 to 14.

Pakistan will begin their February campaign against Australia on February 10 before taking on Germany the following day, February 11.

The team will then face Australia again on February 13 and conclude the Australian leg with a clash against Germany on February 14.

Both opponents are ranked well above Pakistan in the latest FIH world rankings. Germany currently occupies third place, Australia sits fifth, while Pakistan is placed 14th.

The upcoming fixtures mark an important phase in Pakistan's return to top-tier international hockey after securing their place in the Pro League earlier this season.

The February matches will serve as a key test of the team's competitiveness against elite opposition as they continue their Pro League campaign, and their captain, Amad Butt, has vowed that his team will avoid repeating past errors and instead "surprise" top-ranked opponents.

Pakistan’s woes continue with heavy loss to Germany

HOBART: Pakistan suffered yet another defeat in the FIH Pro League as world champions Germany thumped the Green Shirts 5-2 at the Tasmania Hockey Centre on Wednesday.

The result once again exposed the national team’s defensive frailties despite a vibrant second-half response. Germany struck early through Christopher Ruhr, who slotted home in the fifth minute to give the Europeans a 1-0 lead.

The Germans doubled their advantage in the 16th minute when Tom Grambusch converted a penalty corner, putting Pakistan on the back foot.

Pakistan found a lifeline just before half-time as teenager Mohammad Ammad pulled one back in the 18th minute with a well-taken finish, raising hopes of a comeback. However, Germany restored their two-goal cushion before the interval when Benedikt Schwarzhaupt scored from a set-piece in the 24th minute, leaving Pakistan trailing 3-1 at the break.

The third quarter proved disastrous for Pakistan. Malte Hellwig extended Germany’s lead in the 41st minute before Raphael Hartkopf added another less than a minute later, making it 5-1.

Pakistan’s misery was compounded when Ghazanfar Ali received a green card. Germany were then awarded a penalty stroke, but the 32-year-old Ruhr failed to convert, missing the target.

Pakistan showed resolve in the final quarter. Sufyan Khan, 21, converted a penalty corner in the 57th minute to reduce the deficit to 5-2.

The match ended in chaotic scenes as Pakistan’s Mohammad Abdullah and Tom Grambusch received yellow cards in the final seconds following a heated exchange.

Abdullah had earned a penalty corner with five seconds remaining, but the final hooter sounded before Pakistan could execute.

The defeat is Pakistan’s fifth consecutive loss in this year’s Pro League, following four reverses in Argentina and Tuesday’s narrow 3-2 defeat to Australia.

Pakistan face Australia again on Friday before concluding the second-leg against Germany on Saturday.

Zero points after 7 games. This league looked interesting but I think for pak fans this is going to be painful to follow if anyone was planning to do that. We’ll be minnows in this league but I am sure players will benefit from the experience.

This is utter shamelessness beyond belief. Pak hockey federation have not paid hotel fees, bothered about travel plans and forced players to roam on the sydney roads for 11 hours.

The Pakistan Men’s Hockey Team in Australia was forced to roam the streets after the board Failed to Pay the hotel bills.

If phf don't have money, Stay outside of league like kiwis. Why to force/traumatise players ?

Earlier in Brazil, pak team manager was ousted as he was smoking in the flight and had a fight with airlines.

Worst of all , federation made captian to lie on videos showing their pitiful conditions in the name of India.

Rashid Latif confirmed the other day that he lied on TV about India vs Pakistan being a 60-40 contest and that it was always 90-10 in his mind but he lied on TV to sell chooran to Pakistan awaam as they’re obliged.

Now their Hockey captain admitting he lied in a cover up video about the state of affairs of Pakistan hockey after them
roaming in the roads of Australia waiting for a hotel check in for 12 hours went viral.

Can some e trust anything happening Pakistan and being said by them under the current dictatorship scenario.

In the Imran Khan thread, people are already defending Pakistani players for not speaking up as if that’s how everywhere in the world males decide to act like Eunuchs because of fear when it’s literally just Pakistan

This is sad, I have to give it to these athletes though to still go on and and play on the field despite all this adversity.

Why did he lie on video then.. that was your proper way to get accommodation.. instead just to show India you lied and then got on the road anyway.. insane

Pakistan PM steps in after hockey team captain claims team washed dishes in Australia

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry into the mismanagement of the national hockey team's troubled tour of Australia after captain Ammad Shakeel Butt admitted that he lied in a viral video about the team's situation.

Sharif, who is also the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), took notice of the controversy after reports emerged that the players were left without proper accommodation during the tour.

Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director-General Noor Us Sabah told the media that they were preparing a detailed report for the Prime Minister after he ordered an enquiry into the entire debacle. Sources said immediate action would be taken against those found responsible.

The controversy began when a video surfaced on social media showing Pakistan players standing on the streets of Sydney with their luggage. Soon after the video went viral, Butt released another clip claiming that everything was fine and there were no problems in terms of their stay.

However, after returning to Lahore, Butt admitted that the earlier video was a cover-up and openly criticised the federation's management. "We can't work with this
current management of the federation. When players have to clean the kitchen and wash dishes before going to play a match what result do you expect from us?" a visibly angry Butt said.

During the tour, he alleged that the team not only had to wander the streets due to a lack of accommodation but also "wash dishes before playing a match."

The PHF has faced severe backlash after the PSB confirmed it had provided over Rs 10 million to arrange hotel accommodation for the national team in Australia.

According to reports, the Pakistan squad had to wait 13-14 hours at Sydney airport before catching a connecting flight to Canberra. When the team reached its hotel ahead of the FIH Pro League matches, players were informed that they had no booking because no advance payment had been made to the hotel management.

The players waited for hours and roamed the streets before accommodation was finally arranged. The very next afternoon, Pakistan played their first match against Australia and lost 2-3. The team went on to lose all its matches during the Australia leg, including fixtures against both the hosts and Germany, capping a difficult tour both on and off the field.

Pakistan Hockey Federation president resigns, blames sports board for Pro League mismanagement

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Tariq Hussain Bugti announced his resignation on Thursday, citing mismanagement by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in handling funds for international tournaments, particularly the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Bugti stated that his resignation has already been submitted to the prime minister.

Blaming the sports board for the crisis, he said funds allocated for the Pro League were released to the PSB but were not managed properly, resulting in logistical problems during tours of Argentina and Australia.

Bugti maintained that the federation had shared schedules of the tours in advance and that financial control rested with the PSB.

“After seven years, Pakistan hockey finally got a chance to play in the Pro League, but due to a lack of funds, we struggled to meet obligations,” he said, adding that he personally paid $3,720 to clear outstanding hotel dues in Argentina.

He also called for an independent inquiry, stating that the committee formed by the PSB had acted as “judge and jury”.

Referring to internal matters, he alleged that the team captain had pressured players by showing them messages from influential figures, after which the federation imposed a two-year ban on Ammad Shakeel Butt.

Regarding funding, he said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had allocated Rs250 million for hockey, which was released to the PSB. “Despite this, the hockey federation faced major logistical challenges abroad,” he added.

He concluded by saying that mere resignation was not sufficient. “Pakistan’s reputation has been damaged, and accountability must be ensured.”

The resignation follows a public row between the PHF and the PSB over alleged mismanagement during the national team’s participation in the second leg of the FIH Pro League in Hobart, Australia.

The Green Shirts returned to Lahore after suffering defeats against Germany and Australia, ending a winless campaign.

While the PHF maintained that logistical and financial responsibility rested with the PSB under Senate committee directives, a PSB official countered that sufficient funds had been provided and questioned the federation’s handling of arrangements.

PM Shehbaz had taken notice of the matter and ordered an immediate inquiry, while Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah constituted a committee to investigate the issue.

Both sides have welcomed the probe, though observers have called for a neutral and independent investigation to ensure transparency.

Sounds like a nightmare of a tour.

Most of it is corruption and irresponsibility in Pakistan hockey, but this takes the cake:

Anjum, who was the team manager, was detained by Brazilian authorities in Rio de Janeiro during the return journey after the team’s flight stopped there for refuelling. He was allegedly caught smoking on the aircraft, which led to an argument with airline staff, following which he was detained for a day and not allowed to return with the squad.

You’re the team manager! What level of mental dysfunction do you need to have to smoke in a flight, and that too in a foreign country?

I hope hockey will be revived in Pakistan and whole of subcontinent.

We need some new sports in south Asia because cricket has been ruined. :inti

Pakistan Hockey Federation president resigns, blames sports board for Pro League mismanagement

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Tariq Hussain Bugti announced his resignation on Thursday, citing mismanagement by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in handling funds for international tournaments, particularly the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Bugti stated that his resignation had already been submitted to the prime minister.

Naqvi meets hockey players

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, met the hockey players.

A statement posted on the PCB’s X account said the players shared with Naqvi the “unpleasant incidents” during the FIH Pro League, and the PCB chief expressed regret over the “ill treatment” of the players.

“[We] will accommodate the hockey players in every way,” the statement quoted Naqvi as assuring.

According to the statement, he also assured full cooperation to “streamline matters of hockey” and issued directives to arrange tickets, kits and hotel accommodation for the players for World Cup qualifiers in Egypt.

He said the camp for the hockey players would start from tomorrow (Friday) and directed that all arrangements for the training camp should be completed by tonight, according to the statement.

The statement said he also instructed that the PCB should get the injured hockey players treated immediately, asking the players to focus only on their game.

“Pakistan’s respect is above all. We will not allow the tarnishing of its honour under any circumstances,” he said.

According to the PCB statement, Naqvi also handed over cheques of Rs1 million each to the hockey players — a reward which was announced for them for finishing as runners-up in international hockey tournaments.

“The hockey players thanked Naqvi for meeting and encouraging them,” the statement said.

Naqvi earlier also said in a post on social media platform X that he would not become the PHF president but “we will assist players till this turmoil ends”.

It was later reported that the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination’s (IPC) federal secretary, Mohiyuddin Ahmed Wani, had been appointed as the ad-hoc president of PHF.

Wani said after his appointment that the governance mechanism of PHF would be improved and “in next six week, we will prepare a business plan for the PHF, and we will take steps to run this federation on professional grounds”.

“There is no shortage of resources, but the PHF is facing financial management issues. We will work on this,” he said and added that he would ensure free, fair and transparent elections of the PHF.

Bugti’s resignation follows a public row between the PHF and the PSB over alleged mismanagement during the national team’s participation in the second leg of the FIH Pro League in Hobart, Australia.

The Green Shirts returned to Lahore after suffering defeats against Germany and Australia, ending a winless campaign.

Interim PHF president lifts ban on hockey team captain amid Pro League controversy

The newly appointed interim president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, announced the lifting of the ban on the national team captain, Ammad Shakeel Butt, state-run APP reported on Friday.

On Thursday, former president Tariq Hussain Bugti imposed a two-year ban on national captain Butt, citing findings of a committee regarding alleged misconduct. He also announced his resignation amid controversy over the national team’s tour of Australia for the FIH Pro League.

In a statement issued today, the interim president lifted the ban, stressing that “transparency and fairness would guide all decisions under his tenure,” APP quoted him as saying.

Wani, who was the Secretary of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), also vowed to “revive and strengthen the country’s national game”.

He gave assurances to the stakeholders that a comprehensive plan would be developed, “aimed at stabilising the federation, rebuilding trust and revamping team management to restore Pakistan’s lost glory in international hockey”.

“As the newly appointed ad-hoc president of PHF, I assure stakeholders of our commitment to revive and strengthen hockey in Pakistan,” APP quoted him as saying.

He added that “immediate steps” were underway to resolve “organisational and administrative issues”.

Wani elaborated that the “short-term” focus of the federation would be to stabilise its affairs, and the medium-term plan involved “developing a clear strategic vision, enhancing coaching and training structures and fostering institutional coordination among relevant bodies”.

The interim president also shared plans that the federation aims to partner with the private sector to ensure improved support to the players.

“Our players should focus on training and matches, while we handle the rest,” he was quoted as saying.

He assured that “welfare and performance would remain at the centre of reforms”.

Additionally, he announced elections for a new PHF leadership and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for “reposing trust in him” as the interim head, as per APP.

On Thursday, PM Shehbaz appointed Wani as ad-hoc president of the federation, following the resignation of his predecessor.

The developments came amid controversy over the national team’s tour of Australia, where accommodation arrangements could not be secured on time, forcing players to spend several hours on the road.

The team’s overall performance in the Pro League also came under criticism.

However, shortly after Bugti’s resignation, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi met the hockey players, including Ammad Butt and Hanan Shahid.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, when asked about the reported two-year ban, Butt said Naqvi told him there was no ban and that the same team that toured Australia would travel to Egypt.

The ban had reportedly been imposed under the PHF constitution, raising questions over the process for its reversal.

Former stars handed key roles in Pakistan hockey reset

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced the formation of an adhoc Governance and Management Committee in what it described as a structural shift aimed at modernising administration and raising standards of the national sport.

As part of the overhaul, former Olympians Hassan Sardar and Islahuddin will co-chair a newly created Professional Development Committee tasked with overseeing national team selection, specialised training protocols and setting performance benchmarks for coaches and players.

The long-term management structure will be selected by a Professional Advisory Committee, also co-chaired by Sardar and Islahuddin, with additional members to be appointed in consultation with the two former players.

The PHF said it had separated corporate governance, marketing and resource mobilisation from technical hockey operations to ensure specialised oversight.

The newly appointed governance committee members include Capt. Farrukh Atique (HR and Finance), Shakeel Shah, a Member of Customs (Departmental Coordination and Outreach), Amir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz (Corporate and Marketing Support), Ghulam Ali Mallah, Executive Director of IBCC (School and College Sports Promotion), and Brig. (Retd) Akmal Aziz (Services and Institutional Coordination).

All members will serve on an honorary basis.

“This is an interim roadmap to correct the direction. There is no shortcut for success, but clear direction and seriousness of effort will be visible,” a PHF spokesperson said.

“We will mobilise all institutions to connect hockey at the grass roots level,” the spokesperson added.

The reforms, the federation said, underline its commitment to transparency and professional merit as it seeks to restore Pakistan’s standing in international hockey.

Pakistan team management announced ahead of Hockey World Cup Qualifiers

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Monday announced the national men's team's management ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers, scheduled to be held in Egypt from March 1 to 7.

According to the details, Olympian Khawaja Junaid has been appointed as head coach, with Azfar Yaqoob set to serve as his assistant. Sultan Ashraf has been named video analyst, while Farrukh Atiq Khan has been appointed team manager.

Earlier today, the national hockey team met PHF Ad-hoc President Mohiuddin Wani, who also held a separate meeting with the team management to discuss preparations for the World Cup Qualifying round.

Wani encouraged the players and assured them that all possible measures would be taken to help restore Pakistan's lost glory in international hockey.

He further urged the players to focus solely on their game and bring honour to the country.

"We will take every possible step to restore Pakistan's lost position in international hockey. The players are ambassadors of Pakistan; focus only on your game and bring honour to the country," Wani told national players.

He assured the team that the PHF would provide necessary facilities and incentives, while taking responsibility for logistics, coordination and other off-field matters.

"The PHF will provide all necessary facilities and incentives. Logistics, coordination and other off-field matters will be handled by the federation."

"No unnecessary pressure will be placed on the players. They must demonstrate discipline and concentrate on their performance.

"I will take responsibility for both good and bad decisions. We pray for better results in the World Cup Qualifying round."

The development came after a sequence of events that further plunged Pakistan Hockey into turmoil. The controversy began with an accommodation crisis during the national team's tour of Australia, where hotel arrangements were reportedly not properly finalised, forcing the squad to face logistical difficulties.

The situation escalated when national team captain Ammad Butt publicly criticised the PHF over the mishandling of the tour arrangements, and the matter consequently drew the attention of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who took notice of the issue and ordered an inquiry.

Subsequently, then PHF president, Tariq Bugti, stepped down from his position, while Ammad Butt was handed a two-year ban by the federation.

Following the administrative upheaval, Mohiuddin Wani was appointed as interim president to oversee the federation's affairs and revoked the ban on skipper Ammad.

Pakistan down Malaysia to qualify for Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers semi-finals

Pakistan registered a dominant 5-3 victory over Malaysia here at the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Hockey Stadium on Monday to qualify for the semi-finals of the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

The crucial fixture got off to a contrasting start as Malaysia took an early lead in the 12th minute, courtesy of a field goal by Muhajir Abdu Rauf, only for Pakistan to net the equaliser the following minute through Rana Waheed Ashraf.

Malaysia reclaimed the lead heading into the second quarter as Akhimullah Anuar successfully converted a penalty corner in the 14th minute.

Pakistan took a minute into the second quarter to negate Malaysia's lead again, thanks to Zikriya Hayat's field goal, and the scoreboard remained intact at 2-2 at the halfway mark.

The penultimate quarter followed the same pattern as Malaysia pulled ahead when Fitri Saari struck in the 40th minute, but their lead lasted just over five minutes as Ahmad Nadeem netted the equaliser in the extra time.

Pakistan brought out their best in the final quarter and were soon rewarded with the lead when Sufyan Khan successfully converted a penalty corner in the 49th minute.

Captain Ammad Butt then bolstered Pakistan's lead to 5-3 in the 56th minute, and their advantage remained intact until the final whistle.

Pakistan crush Austria to stay unbeaten at FIH World Cup 2026 Qualifiers

Abu Mahmood struck twice to lead Pakistan to a resounding 4-2 victory over Austria in their last group-stage fixture of the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers here at the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.

The Green Shirts made a rampant start to the fixture as Afraz netted a sensational field goal in the fourth minute to give them an early lead.

The scoreboard remained intact at 1-0 in Pakistan's favour until the 44th minute, which saw Mahmood successfully convert a penalty corner to double the lead.

Maximilian Kelner eventually opened the scoring for Austria two minutes into the final quarter through a penalty corner, only for Sufyan Khan to reinstate Pakistan's two-goal advantage just four minutes later.

Mahmood netted his second goal the following minute to strengthen Pakistan's command with a three-goal advantage.

Although Maximilian Scholz managed to pull one back in the 53rd minute, Pakistan clinched a dominant 4-2 victory as they could not register the equaliser.

The 4-2 victory meant the Green Shirts concluded the group stage unbeaten as they beat China and Malaysia in their opening two fixtures, respectively.

Notably, Pakistan had already qualified for the semi-finals following their victory over Malaysia; however, their opponent for the knockout fixture will be determined after the conclusion of the Group A matches on Thursday.

Furthermore, Pakistan's victory in the semi-final would see them qualify for the FIH Hockey World Cup after an eight-year absence.
