The Punjabi Music Thread

Its Heer Waris Shah do you need it from this singer or in general you can just Search " Heer Waris Shah" and you can get hundreds of copies from different singers.
 
Thanks dhump, yeah i know thats heer but I really liked the way that singer did it. Gives this nice live feel to it (no music etc)..... was hoping someone would know who this is.

This is good stuff. Would love to listen to the whole thing.

Just one thing though, it's lain not line, gotta draw it out a little with that Lahori accent. :P

I'm liking the beat but some of the pronounciations are a bit offkey.

Also at one bit you say 'Chal jidhi mastani eh, jidi chardi shohk jawani eh' and then when you repeat this hook you say 'Chal kidhi mastani eh...'.

Guri 22 though is all set to destroy himself by joining Bollywood like Diljit and Honey Singh. It’s a trap. Never join Bollywood. Stick to your roots. Stay desi.

He is a wasteman with a demented face. Sidhu Moosewala is the only guy in the Punjabi industry that I CANNOT stand.

Gurdaas Maan, Arif Lohar and Shazia Manzoor are/were my favourite Punjabi singers. Of course NFAK was the king.
 
Satinder sartaj by far the best punjabi singer going around all these pop singers are 'fukrey'.hate them with core of heart.
 
big fan of pav dharia, one of the cleanest punjabi vocalists among the new generation imo


 
Punjabi music is under severe threat from Bollywood which has in last few years tried to take Punjabi music under its wings and influenced young Punjabi artists to write songs for the hindi speakkng population resulting in Punjabi music losing its Paendoo appeal.

Lol not like Punjabi music was only Gurdaas Maan, they been singing about drugs alcohol for past 10 years, glad its changing a bit now after the disaster at hand.
 
I love Punjabi folk music but hardly like any of the mainstream ones except maybe a few of Praak.

Anyone here actually old enough to appreciate 80's and 90's UK bhangra music?

Heera, Alaap, Anpa Sangeet, DSC, Pardesi, Sohotas, XLNC, Sat Rang, Shaktee?

used have all of these on vinyl back in the day.

You lived through the golden era of UK bhangra music..Even the 80's were good with lots of packed concerts. Now UK scene is done and dusted for over a decade. What would you say led to the decline? Many say it was piracy, introduction of mp3s,etc but hard to say as concerts would still go on. Perhaps a case of the newer gen unable to adapt?
 
Kanwar Grewal is someone who reminds me of the good ol Punjabi music, his voice is something very suited to Punjabi composition which has meaning.

He's got a decent unique voice. IMO, needs a good composer to work with to bring out the best out of him. Btw, that 'chithiye ni chithiye hanjua naal likhiye' brings back memories of Harbhajan Man, who took off with that song.

He was one of my fav singers, also Jee Ayan Nu was best Punjabi movie ever till carry on Jatta and i always thought he will become the biggest actor but sadly Punjabi film industry matured somewhat only now.

Kanwar Grewal is actually not getting good MCs to work with, so he has somewhat gone commercial which probably will not work for him.

Yeah, Harbhajan had that folk type voice. I always found his brother, Gursewak, had the better voice for pop music. Both used to sing dhadi vaar style music from a younger age.

His back to back movies did spark the rejuvenation of Punjabi cinema for sure as others followed suit. I'd like to add Gurdas Maan's Shaheed-e- Mohabbat also deserves a special mention as far as revival of Punajbi music which came a few years earlier than Harbhajan's movies. The songs were quite good in that movie as well and Gurdas Maan did a pretty decent job. Asi tere shehar nu... was a great song.

I dont know punjabi but like punjabi songs,sometimes meaning doesnt matter if you like the song.

Being a Punjabi, I like Punjabi music however I find it very cringy when Punjabi singers try to mix Punjabi, American pop culture and rap in their songs. Punjabi songs from the early 2000s were much better in my opinion. This might be an unpopular opinion considering the popularity of Punjabi music amongst South Asians.

although the above song is about kudi like most Punjabi songs include folk ones where kudi is singing for her lover pretending to be weaving.. but its beautiful irrespective.

Not entirely punjabi rap these tunes but the 2000's boom and fusion of genre's coming out of this part of the world was great
