The Real Pathan - Yusuf Pathan!

Who cares if he's pathan or not. He's a damn good slogger, and a brilliant No. 7 all rounder for India.

If he plays like this in WC, he'll kill every team. Brilliant innings.

How come YK fans are all praise for Yousuf Pathan while they slam Afridi? And I thought you guys were the mature bunch.

Afridi has scored two ODIs centuries in this year alone. You'll have to be a fool to think YP is better after his first ever ODI hundred. Plus Afridi is a specialist bowler. Some Afridi and Younis fans think they have to love one and hate one.

Both Australia and Kiwis got some work to do on their cricket now.

And in last 15 years?

And in last 15 years? Hey buddy compare their average, and you will know who is better

And this fake Pathan thing...get over it. Being pathan is not some knighthood that people would like to feign. Most "real' pathans live a life well below the poverty line, even by the subcontinent standards. Just look at Afghanistan.

with naswar in their mouth:)

I think somebody already compared their averages on the last page. Yousuf averages better because of the not outs he gets by batting at number 7. Afridi in the same amount on innings had scored more runs and a THREE more 50s than Yusuf. You have to be biased and/or slow to conclude Yusuf has done better because of his average.

All hype. Afridi has been hammering bowlers for more than 15 years in tough conditions against better bowling attacks.

I think that's you. I will just post you the quote someone already said before

So what happened to comparing their average like you demanded? Lost the argument and now changing the topic to the '15 year span' argument?

So insaaniyat, why dont you wait for 15 years to see if Yusuf does better and then claim he's better. But for the next 15 years you've proven to be a tool, specially since Yusuf wont even last 5 years despite batting on flattest tracks of tiniest grounds and facing trundlers.

YP won't be that lucky like Afridi

YP won't be that lucky like Afridi
He's already lucky! He doesn't have to face bowlers like Donald, McGrath, Pollock, Ambrose, Walsh, Lee etc. that Afridi faced in the start of his career. YP bats in the days when 400 plus scores in ODIs are are scored for fun in his country.

Afridi is no great batsman, but he has averaged 23 despite facing some legendary bowlers and tougher conditions in his career, while YP averages only 29 despite facing lame bowling attacks and extremely batting friendly conditions.

i always thought he was overrated..but good for him.. i would still not rate this century as high as if it was against any other opposition considering the status of NZ cricket right now..

in regards to Afridi, I have been his fan for a while.. but looking at his record, I wouldn't give him as much chance as he has got.. maybe if he was used as a bowling batsman and batted at number 6 or 7 as he is doing right now, his talent would have been utalized more..

sorry man...only another pathan can decide whether he is a pathan or not nobody else can pass that judgement on him...i mentioned it before and ill say it again...i dont meanany offence by it either...

OK man you know I am as original as it comes Pathan. I declare that first of all Yousaf & Irfan are not original Pathans. To add Pathan to your name does not make you one.

Secondly regarding his innings. It was a good Innings but no so special. New Zealand third class bowlers were bowling some real peas to him.

Regarding the biggest six, it was not even in the top 10 biggest sixes of all time. It was probably a 100 meter six. For OP saying that he had not seen somebody hit a bigger six go to youtube and search Afridi's big six of Symonds.

Are you friends with their family ?

:))) :))) :))) what?! Do I see an Afridi vs Yusuf comparison here?

Afridi is a better batsman, bowler, and fielder than Irfan and Yusuf combined.

If for any big series yusuf pathan is worthy enough to be selected its the world cup in india next year. After that he can be drop himself again, play in IPL and wait for the next world cup in the subcontinent.

I am a Pathan my friend and I know my race better than anybody. I am sorry but there are no original Pathans in your Pyaraa HINDUSTAN.:afridi

Pashtuns (Pashto: پښتون Paṣ̌tun, Pax̌tun, also rendered as Pushtuns, Pakhtuns, Pukhtuns), also called Pathans (in Urdu: پٹھان and Hindi: पठान Paṭhān)[11] or (ethnic) Afghans (in Persian: افغان; see also origin and history of the term),[12][13][14] are an Eastern Iranian ethno-linguistic group with populations primarily in Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan, which includes Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Balochistan. The Pashtuns are typically characterized by their usage of the Pashto language and practice of Pashtunwali, a traditional set of ethics guiding individual and communal conduct.[15] Their origin is unclear but historians have come across references to a people called Paktha (Pactyans) between the 2nd and the 1st millennium BC,[16][17][18] which is speculated to be the ancestors of today's Pashtuns. Since the 3rd century AD and onward, they are mostly referred to by the name "Afghan" ("Abgan", "Avgan" or "Awgan").[19][20]
During the Delhi Sultanate era, a number of Pashtun Emperors (Sultans) have ruled the Indian subcontinent. Other Pashtuns fought the Safavids and the Mughal Empire[21] before obtaining an independent state in the early-18th century, which began with a successful revolution by the Hotaki dynasty followed by military conquests by the Durrani Empire.[22] Pashtuns played a vital role during the Great Game from the 19th century to the 20th century as they were caught between the imperialist designs of the British and Russian empires. For over 300 years, they reigned as the dominant ethnic group in Afghanistan with nearly all rulers being Pashtun. More recently, the Pashtuns gained global attention during the 1980s Soviet war in Afghanistan and with the rise of the Taliban, since they are the main ethnic contingent in the movement. Pashtuns are also an important community in Pakistan, where they have attained the presidency and high positions in the military, and are the second-largest ethnic group in that country.
The Pashtuns are the world's largest (patriarchal) segmentary lineage ethnic group. The total population of the group is estimated to be as high 49 million[1] according to Ethnologue, but an accurate count remains elusive due to the lack of an official census in Afghanistan since 1979. There are an estimated 350 to over 400 Pashtun tribes and clans.[21][23

Original Pathans are what the bold part in the articles refer to.

OK you mean original Pathan are those who used to speak Pashto language....

but yaar it can be possible some Pathan migrated to any part of world where they don't use Pashto language ...say like English in America ...and then the new generation will not be Pathan ??? ....If Yes then Pathans are only specific regional breed...am I right???

Hyperbole.

One swallow does not make a summer. Yusuf needs to do well consistently to start deserving a thread of his own!!

My friend dont insult any race. Just for your information the Pathan Kings had ruled your India for more than 200 years.

Ahmad Shah
Sher Shah Suri
Ibrahim Lodi.
Shahabuddin Muhammad Ghori

And I am sure you would know that your great hero Prithviraj Chauhan was defeated and killed by a Pathan King Shahabuddin Muhammad Ghori.

:)) come on. Don't get so serious.

No insult to any race. Just kidding. :)

To clarify more, I don't judge anyone from which race he/she comes from, but completely on his/her own personality and behavior. So chill.

What a crap comparison??

Its sad to see this great forum going to such lows that they are comparing a not so regular no. 7 of a team with a captain of a side like Pakistan?? I mean what's the need? Is it necessary for a batsman to be a Pathan to play well? I strongly feel that its just because of such comparisons that a great player like Afridi loses his sanity whenever he goes out to bat. He has himself admitted that there is immense pressure on him of hitting sixes every time he goes out to bat. And its the insane expectations of the fans that makes him suffer a brain explosion after every few deliveries. Even Sachin tendulkar has changed his game with age. Its high time we give Afridi a respite and stop dragging him in such needless debates. Let the guy cool off and plan his exit on a high.

Bottom line:- YP has just started his International career and yesterday's knock was a good one without doubt.

one more thing i would like to ask... why all pathans ( asli + naqli) have grt strike rate bt below par average 20+ and always believe in 6 hitting ???

Razzaq like innings..similar to what razzy played against SA

Razzaq's Innings was against the best bowling attack in world cricket while Yousaf's was against the worst. So imo no comparison between the two.

I think you are totally zero in history subject. Go and search how was Prithviraj killed. First you should search the real facts and then make your stupid comments.

I think you are totally zero in history subject. Go and search how was Prithviraj killed. First you should search the real facts and then make your stupid comments.

The First Battle The first move was taken by Muhammad of Ghor who captured till the border of Prithviraj's kingdom. In 1191 Muhammad captured either the Sirhind or Bhatinda fortress (which is now in Punjab) in Prithviraj’s northwestern frontier. The next step was taken by Prithviraj who along with his vassal Govinda-raja of Delhi rushed to save the frontier and the two armies met at Tarain.
The Rajput armies first defeated the two wings of the Muslim army. The Muslim army fledwhile Muhammad still remained in the center with the rest of the Turk soldiers. It was then Govind-raja and Muhammad of Ghor came face to face. The two were injured with repeated clashes. Muhammad could not recover from the blow and fainted from the shock. Fearing that their leader had died the army surrendered to Prithviraj and Muhammad was made a prisoner. He was brought in chains to Pihorgarh, Prithviraj’s capital. Muhammad of Ghor begged for mercy and Prithviraj in spite of repeated warnings from his ministers pardoned him.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Battle_of_Tarain

The Second Battle In 1192, after losing the first war, Muhammad Ghori returned with a larger army and met again Prithviraj’s army at Tarain. This time the force of Prithviraj also included many Rajput forces from Northern India. Muhammad Ghori delivered an ultimatum to Prithviraj Chauhan that either convert to Muslim or be prepared to be defeated by Muhammad Ghori. Prithviraj Chauhan in reply offered him a cease-fire to consider a retreat with his army.
Muhammad Ghori adopted a tactic and replied Prithviraj with a letter indicating the acceptance of the truce. The Rajput army believed it and they started celebrating with their guards in a relaxed and casual mood. In the mean time Ghori’s army attacked Prithviraj’s army in the very early hours of morning, as they were unprepared for the battle. However the Rajput army could raise a protection against Muslim army and they retreated. Muhammad’s army sent waves of mounted archers to attack the Rajput forces but had to set back as Prithwiraj’s elephant force advanced. At dusk Muhammad Ghori was able to achieve the victory as he charged the center of Rajput defense with a heavily armored horsemen and made them confused.
About hundred thousand Rajput soldiers are said to have died in the battle. Prithwiraj was imprisoned and was taken to Ghazni. The second battle of Tarain is believed to be one of the most decisive battle in the Indian History as it opened the path for conquerors of India. Muhammad and his successors were able to conquest over the Rajputs and established an Islamic Empire in India, the Sultanate of Delhi.
What happens after this is clear from the local folk songs still prominent in Rajasthan. It is said that PrithviRaj was taken to Afghanistan along with his raj-kavi cum friend, Chandbhar. In Ghori's court, Prithviraj and Chandbhar were brought in shackles. PrithviRaj was asked to show the art of archery, wherein he could aim and shoot just by hearing the sound. It is also known as Shabdbhedi-baan. Ghori asked him to show him this art. To make game interesting for himself, he got his eyes pierced with hot iron rods. Chandbhar says, "A king, though as a prisoner, can receive command only from a king. So only you can ask him to shoot.". Then he says few verses or poetry, few of those lines were,"Chaar baans chaubees guz, angul asht pramaan,Taa oopar Sultan hai, Mat chooke Chauhan". Chaar baans meant four bamboos stick, chaubis guz as approximately 24 yards, angul asht pramaan meant eight fingers width. All this combined gave the exact location of Ghori sitting on his throne i.e. 4 bamboos stick high, 24 yards away and exactly eight fingers up was the Ghori sitting. "Go ahead O Chauhan and don't miss the aim". This is how PrithviRaj kills Ghori in his court and obviously to meet his own death.

P.S. The second battle showed some interesting tactics by the supposed brave Pathan...

This part is all BS to make Prithviraj as some kind of super natural hero ala Bollywood movies. He was defeated hands down on the battle field and thus killed. Regarding the tactics of Muhammad Ghori, I think you are familiar with this " Everything is fair in love and war". This was a bloody war so he used the tactics as he like.

AGREED, tactics are tactics even if its cowardice...

Razzaq's Innings was against the best bowling attack in world cricket while Yousaf's was against the worst. So imo no comparison between the two.

what a stupid statement... how is NZ's attack worst in the world?

Danial Vettori, Kyle Mills are up there in the ODI rankings along with Southee..makes a decent attack..

it was like Razzaqa innings coz they came in similar batting positions, dug the team outta the hole and won it single handedly with sixes and fours..

your opinion is meh

Razzaq's Innings was against the best bowling attack in world cricket while Yousaf's was against the worst. So imo no comparison between the two.

Charles Langeveldt, Tsotsobe, Morne Morkel, ALbie Morkel, Peterson and Botha

Both the knocks were quite good, Razzaq's was better because he played a lone hand, Yusuf had Tiwary for support.

Where did afridi score his first hundred? That was what you call flat pitch with small boundaries.

Please read what you've written. Again.

Afridi's 100 was against the World Champions - Sri Lanka!

Don't devalue that knock by comparing it to this one. :moyo

Yusuf Pathan is a flat pitch bully. He will struggle against real fast bowlers who bounce him.

Thanks!

Inability to improve where? He was a bowler... and he still is one of best bowlers in ODIs and T20s.

5th highest wicket taking spinner in ODIs;

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...ickets;size=200;template=results;type=bowling

Weren't you saying in another thread that longetivity is over-rated and it should be averages which should matter? Shouldn't average and strike rates matter in bowling as once that is maintained, any bowler can do the job for the team? So if Pathan had played the same number of matches as Afridi.... How then does Afridi stand out? :afridi

To be fair yesterday New Zealand bowling, particularly Mills' was utter drab stuff. Kept feeding Pathan good length or full toss balls at medium pace

Brilliant Battign Yusuf bahi... you smashed it..

Aboutt ime you show your talent whcih you have buried for long time!!!

This centru was awesome to watch, no offense but no where near the quality of Razaaq or Afiridi hitting!

why ??...and what is original Pathan??

what with this fake or real Pathan ...Pathan to Pathan hote hain ...

personally i dont care about these things but

apparantly you have to be able to speak pashto, know about your heritage and culture and acknowledge that you are one aswell lol

adhere to pashtunwali aswell...

just scrlled up...n ajmal has already mentioned it so i am assuming you already know lol

lets add sher shah suri and ahmad hah abdali to the list for the craic :p

No Pathans are not a specific regional breed, they are a race and had a glorious history dating back to 3000 BC. oh and that book is amazing lol...sir olaf caroe was a great governer...one of the best the nwfp had

YP has major issues vs the short ball, bowl short and he will be out in no time regardless it was a good innings. Both Afridi & Pathan = CRAP with decent performances occasionally....Also who the F**** Cares if they are a Pathan or not, outside of Pakistan and Afghanistan you talk about Pathan's and you will get responses like these; Who ?? Care Factor ???..................

1st sensible post of the thread

Pakistan's superstar player being compared with an Indian fringe player
haha

Off topic and general viewpoint.80 percent of the people who ruled india till the british never saw the country as hindus vs muslims, nor used the country for the benefit of their homeland(except for some people like nadir shah and ahmad shah who plundered riches back for replenishing persia).

They came here, wanted to conquer new lands, set up administration,be a part of the country, and the general condition of the people under the hindu and muslim kings remained the same.Be it pathans or rajputs or nizams or pandyas when they wanted to defeat someone they dint mind siding with a king,be it a muslim or a hindu.Caste discrimination existed to an extent, but religious discrimination was less in those days.It was after the british came to use india's riches for their homeland, and their deliberate policy of creating a divide paid of(cherry picking wars which involved purely hindu vs muslim kings and distorting history to their benefit, though the real history was different),and till now it has never worn off.The reason i say this is,let us not turn the discussion from a pathan thing into a hindu vs muslim thing like prithviraj vs ghori.

So that is purely assumption that indian pathans wont follow the code, isnt it?The bangash pathan mohammad khan bangash unlike ahmed shah who conquered some territory for a temporary time, founded and ruled farukkabad directly which is part of the present uttar pradesh and accounts for a significant pashtun population.Im sure there will be some descendants who would be following the code.

Did he help you win the Semi Final? No Right.

Brave pathan?? or a friggin coward pathan! not generalising pathans here but ghauri was sore looser! and died rightfully at hands of prithviraj!

i dont know why many guys are mentioning this, that pathans who do not speak pashton are not real pathans! but there are so many punjabis in pakistan and i am sure i have not met a single pakistani ( apart for some old ones ) who could read or write punjabi!

Finals>Semi-finals! You cant just change your goal post every post. First it was win the world cup, now its semi-finals? Well even if Pathan had won us each and every match of the tournament, he still would have been an average player and out of team because t20s are just fun cricket and no one cares :yk

Rajputs were running with their tails between their legs when the Pathan Cavalry charged them in the battlefields of Tarain and Panipat.

It is not true that Muhammad Ghori died at the hands of Prithviraj, as I said earlier it is just a folklore and complete BS.

Where are the mods? people if you want to talk about pathan history please make a thread in time pass.
