This tells more about GOAT Australian team than both Gilly and Pant lol.![]()
Gilchrist averages 47 overall and 35 in the second innings, which actually shows how great of a match-winner he was.
The vast majority of Tests are decided in the first innings of both teams. If you can consistently score big in the first innings, you will rarely lose Test matches.
Pant is a legend in the making.
You live by the sword, then you die by the sword.
People will say that was a stupid shot to play to get out, but look at the positives, what an innings by him.
Love watching him bat - there I said it.
What an entertainer.
Team in trouble against England today and he's come in and smashed the bowling to all parts.
Definitely there's no positive. It's just absolute lack of common sense and game awareness. This is not the first time. He's got out playing the same stupid shot to Lyon when in 90s. People calling him brave, sehwags and gilchrist should calm down. After playing such good innings, he threw it away as usual. This is not not brave cricket, this is simply brainless stuff by Pant!
lol What were you expecting him to do? Bat out two more days for a draw? It's just absolute lack of common sense and game awareness.

You say that like he didn't make those 91 runs by playing "brainless" shots like those.
Actually it was a very calculated onslaught and not just brainless. Every single one of his 6 was against Leach.he didn't play a single shot in the air of Bess before that shot where he got out. He knew Leach angle was easier to hit.
If it was brainless he would have attacked all bowlers instead of one. He does seem to be losing a bit of focus in the 90s though, need to work on it
I'm sure Pant had his reason to attack Bess. Throw him off his game when he least expected it and get him to change the field around or something. Either way, had he miscued any of the shots against Leach earlier and skied it in the air for a catch, it would've looked brainless. Had the shot against Bess connected, no one would've thought anything of it.
Can't really take a poster who has Lahori in his name seriously when it comes to rating Indian posters. Lots of Pakistan fans have biases when it comes to rating Indian players.
Don't think he's sehwag's successor
Sehwag don't loft the ball this often and his style was not massacring the ball this hard in the air
Pant's style is more of a free flowing slogger who plays grounded shots here and their.I don't think he's a freak talent but very strong in his limited ability
Considering he's a wicketkeepr batsman bats low down the order, this way of batting can consistently give handsome 50's in long run which can turned as match winning knocks.....
Sehwag hit spinners in the air all the time and is famous for getting to his landmarks with 6s
How is someone so calculating, he chose only one bowler to target and didn't hit others in the air, a slogger? Some of you didn't watch the match and are simply making stuff up

Gilly 2.0 + Sehwag 2.0 + Lara 2.0 + ABD 2.0![]()

I am following the whole match from day 1
Pant slogs a lot and slogs everything,he slogged leach to cleaners and trying to do the same against bess and gets out today
Even in ipl he's known for his blatant legside slog in the square-leg region and does look ungainly at times to even loses his balance in the process
Don't told me sehwag is like this, sehwag used to play spin like any great batsman in history of the game
The guy needs some match awareness. I have no doubt over his talent, nor am I criticising him. But to throw away your wicket while in the 90's playing unnecessary shots is not acceptable for a talent like him. I'm sure he can do much better than he has already done. He could have easily scored a 150+ score in this innings if he were a little more sensible.
A talent needs to aim to maximise his output. Pant can and should aim for big hundreds.
Brave when it works, unnecessary when it doesn'y
Pant is only 23 and hasn’t played more than 40 first class matches yet some people are expecting him to bat like a 100 test veteran. Dhoni too was accused of being reckless early on yet he eventually turned out out to be a decent test batsman.
Pant’s batting is fine, it’s his keeping that is the bigger problem. He makes too many simple mistakes - is it a technical thing or is it a mental (concentration) problem?
He did his part. Rather than expecting Pant to bail India out everytime in tricky situations I think it is time to look at the top and middle order. What is Rahane doing? Plays one good inning and follows it up with 6-7 below average innings. I liked him as a captain but he is just another Asad Shafiq who only plays well when he is place is in danger.![]()
What is wrong with Rahane? Plays one innings every 10 games.

The sooner he is replaced, the better.
Those straight hits from the spinner were brilliant to watch. The footwork was superb.
Some would say brave, some would say risky.
With Pant, it's going to be a love/hate relationship with fans throughout his career.
Then he plays once in a lifetime innings like century in Melbourne test.
He is only 23. He will mature over the years. But no denying the fact that he is a international class batting talent.
According to a former captain and Batsman from England says "if you chance your arm too many times in test you will be found out".
Pant divides opinion like no one else.

He will have his brainfade moments but he can be pretty calculative.
The way he paced his Aus innings shows it.
I was blown away by his resilience facing the first 50 balls in Gabba.
Give Rahane one more series. If he doesn’t perform then replace him with Pant. And bring in Saha as a keeper.
That is not how it goes with players like Pant. He won't change his style. Afridi and Maxwell are good examples of this.![]()
Saha is already 36 - how long will he be around for?
He can still take catches that Pant can only dream of. Bottom line is Pant is terrible.
Padikkal's first-class record isn't good enough to warrant a place in the Test side.Gill
Paddikal
Pujara
Kohli
KL
Pant(wkt)
Jadeja( Sundar/Pandya as backup)
Ashwin
Shami/Siraj
Ishant
Bumrah
3 left handers in top 7.
Padikkal's first-class record isn't good enough to warrant a place in the Test side.
In this aspect, he's better than sehwag himself.

There was as much calculation in going after Leach as there was at being watchful against Bess at the other end. Pant taking on a left-arm spinner is almost always the best option: in 54 balls against left-arm spin in Test cricket, he hits a four or a six every 5.4 balls and is yet to be dismissed. Against right-arm spinners, whom he has faced considerably more (517 balls), that boundary rate is one every 11 balls and he has been out 11 times in 22 innings
The audacity of his attacking game has often belied a rather intelligent batsman in his short career. On a turning pitch, nearly everything he did until he eventually fell to Bess' offspin was calculative. Based on the trouble Leach caused Washington Sundar later in the day, it's safe to say that Pant's attack against him almost single-handedly delayed one of England's frontline threats. It also helped Pujara immediately at the other end, as depicted in these pitchmaps below from an early point in their partnership.
Except the Gabba one, which was somewhat uncharacteristic of him and if he could play according to that, its good.
This type of batsman rarely changes his style of batting.
Sometimes this works and other times it can end up in failure.
It'll be interesting to see how his career develops.
I hope he doesn't change.
He did well in the last season, scored a lot of runs. That record is because of past performance.
Since so many people are already calling him Sehwag 2.0 or even better than Sehwag/Gilly. How about we drop Rohit, open with Pant and play a specialist keeper like Saha/Bharat? I am pretty sure he will take the game away from the opposition right from the start and score triple hundreds for fun. Not to mention completing his 100s, 200s and 300s through sixes. We are wasting his talent in middle order. What do his die hard fans like Indiafan or sensible-indian-fan jeeteshssaxena suggest?
This is a serious suggestion. Rohit isn't doing anything special at the top and same can be said about Pant's wicketkeeping. Let the discussion rolling.![]()
Now as to why Rohit opens... Don't ask me that.![]()
