The security for PSL is top class, but can this be repeated for a whole series?

Was reading about the security arrangements of PSL final. The 5 layer security, the cordoning off of the area, gas supplies disconnected, continous vigilance, stopping of all traffic,Moblile Phones jammed. This is no doubt top class security.

The only things missing are perhaps AWACS and Satellite Survelliance.

I believe that the foreign players should have travelled to Lahore.

Having said that. Its possible to do this for one day.Is it possible to this everyday over a series? Can you stop Traffic and close down the area every dayfor a number of days? Will the people who are affected not protest?

The holding of PSL final is a good decision. But if this security is showcased to bring back international cricket, except for may be one off T20s then i am not too confident. Its hard to do this everyday for a long period, and the terrorist need only one mistake to strike.

Is this doable over a long series? What are your views?

Probably not CJ dude, maybe only for a ODI series over 2/3 venues but not a full blown tour with Tests/ODI & T20's.

Traffic isn't closed. It will stay closed for a very short time and that too only when the teams will travel from PC hotel to Gadafi stadium, other then that the apart from the few roads around the stadium all will be normal. I just watched a video where a traffic warden was explaining traffic routes to the citizens

I think so, yes. And tbh, Ferozpur Road has not been cordoned off. Even the institutions on those roads were open. Only that there will be more security checks in that road.

Yeah. Only when teams will be travelling. Other than that, I think only restaurants inside Gaddaffi are closed. And tbh, they are owned by PCB and given on rent to the restaurants under condition that they can be and will be asked to shut down in case of matches.

It is not sustainable due to multiple reasons, which is why Pakistan is not ready to host international cricket on a full-scale at the moment. Nonetheless, it is important that we continue to take incremental steps because if we don't push the foreign players, they will never come.

However, I believe it is only a matter of time. Najam Sethi is the best thing that has happened to Pakistan cricket in a long time. He not only talks but takes action as well. PSL was proposed for years but it was hot air before he got involved, he also proposed the idea of hosting the final in Lahore a year back, and here we are now. He was also the reason why Zimbabwe toured Pakistan in 2015. I'm pretty certain he will eventually bring international cricket back to Pakistan.

I was watching a video and read a news that the shops etc around the stadium have been shut down.So thats why i asked.

When do the teams arrive?

How long will the PSL teams stay in Lahore? Is it a Fly In and Fly Out kind of scenario. If it is then its a big mistake. With this kind of security they should have been flown in a day earlier.Practice at the stadia and play next day.Just like it will happen if two teams will play in a normal situation.

Those shops/restaurants/marriage halls are owned by PCB and are rented. And the agreement is, they will be shut down in case of any match. Hell, they were closed for Lahore Qalandar Rising Star Tournament.

they could sustain it for a short T20 series of a few days..but not for a long test series or a odi series. However I think this is a great move. I hate Sethi's guts. but he has done a great job here and bringing cricket to Pakistan has to be of paramount importance no matter what.

Since it was the first time therefore they might be taking extra security measures but i think if closing a few shops around the stadium means enhanced security then it won't be a big issue as they might shift them to other places in the city.

The security is top class. The thing is i hope this is not a fly in and fly out scenario.Because you will need teams to stay for atleast 5-6 days for even a 3 match T20 series and they will need to go out everyday for practice.

I hope PCB have flown in the teams a day before and let the players go about their job as usual.

It seems those are PCB owned properties. So closing them is fine.

Tbh, I have no idea what the arrangements are.

The players are practicing in Gadaffi stadium right now. Just saw another video

Great News!Sensible moves by PCB.Keep the security tight. But keep the cricketing activity normal.Thats how you do it.

Badhiya!!!

Agreed with your bit about Najam Sethi being the best thing happened to Pakistan cricket.

Yup, I think players were flown in earlier. But as for your topic, I don't think a series like this is sustainable. Hopefully these small steps will help.

Finally someone said it. He's walked the talk and stuck to his word. Not only PSL and bringing Zimbabwe to Pakistan, he's also tried very hard to convince West Indies and was almost successful. Especially that reply to FICA was extremely professional and something unexpected from a usually incompetent PCB. He's had the Sri Lankan Cricket Board chairman come to Pakistan and even had Giles Clarke visit recently. I think it can be concluded that he is adamant to bring cricket back to Pakistan and will not give up anytime soon. Equally, SK has been pivotal too. These guys get too much hate for no reason.

For a 3 match T20 series, it would be feasible.

Don't think you can do it for an ODI or Test series.

Hey bro, yeah true. Would agree with you, the security is top notch. Just wanted to let you know that perhaps AWACS is there too since helicopters have been encircling the area for the past two days for any suspicious activity. - Not sure if helicopters count tho.

the next step should be to invite teams for one off t20 match. I think it should be possible to arrange a couple of days tour to pakistan.

I mentioned AWACS because the best security i have ever seen at a sporting event was the WC in South Korea in 2002.There were AWACS there.Take out that and this is the best i have ever seen.

Ofcourse in 2002 it was all about Airplane borne attacks. This is top notch security anyway you look at it.

Seems the foreigners will arrive tommorow.FLy in and Fly out.Thats sad.

PCB must have tried..may be foreigners weren't convinced to fly a day earlier..I think it's a start and it will take time for foreigners to understand the security situation in Pakistan.

No. Its simply not worth the costs in an impoverished nation. Huge waste of resources and manpower instead of protecting citizens from terrorists and criminals.

Also #1 security means # target. Every tom dick and harry gunda will want to showcase their strike ability by targetting this top class security. This is a wild goose chase. Apart from Zimbabwe, no team will tour Pakistan.

There is no reason it cannot be done for the whole series, but the perception of security problem will take time to improve.

Even now, some people on this forum are genuinely concerned and some for "other" reason portraying as Lahore is some sort of Aleppo , Syria . Lahore's violent crime rate probably are much less than the other major cities in South Asia.
