The Silent Assassin - Kane Williamson, New Zealand's greatest batter

No doubt that he is one of the finest bats of our time but for some reason fans in general do not scrutinize or micro analyze his performances as much as they do for Kohli, Smith or even Root. Imagine if Kohli averaged 40 in Aus, 30 in Eng and a marvelous 21 in SA!!

It is true but the reasons are obvious. New Zealand is a neutral team and not part of the evil big 3 empire.

Kane Williamson continued his sensation form as he recorded a fourth double-century on the third day of the second Test against Pakistan in Christchurch on Tuesday. The New Zealand captain scored 238 off 364, an innings that featured 28 fours.

His effort combined with centuries from Henry Nicholls (157) and Daryl Mitchell (102) helped New Zealand declare their first innings at a mammoth 659/6 in 158.5 overs. They thus took a huge lead of 362 runs before dismissing Pakistan opener Shan Masood for a duck before stumps were drawn.

During his marathon innings, Williamson became the 13th fastest batsman to score 7,000 Test runs and third from his country after Ross Taylor (7379) and Stephen Fleming (7172) to do so.

This is the 30-year-old’s second double-century since returning to Test cricket following the coronavirus lockdown. He scored 251 against West Indies in December before hitting 129 against Pakistan in the first Test in Mount Maunganui.

When he reached 120, the Kiwi batsman, widely regarded as one of the finest batsmen of the current generation, went past the legendary Don Bradman’s tally of 6996 runs in Test cricket. And three runs later, he reached 7,000 Test runs.

Meanwhile, New Zealand have taken a giant stride towards a series whitewash after they left Pakistan at a tricky 8/1 with, trailing by 354 runs with two days of play still left. The hosts won the first Test by 101 runs to take 1-0 lead and are in the driving seat to make it 2-0.

Mitchell, who scored a maiden Test ton, said he’s still to come to terms with it. “Probably hasn’t sunk in quite yet, but it’s a special feeling,” he said after the day’s play ended.

I was relieved more than anything. Great feeling to do it front of the family. I thought I am not going to get it done, but he gave me a couple of extra overs and KJ (Jamieson) did some great running too to help me get there,” he added.

Kane Williamson’s epic 238 in the second Test against Pakistan in Christchurch has helped him reach the best ever-rating points by a New Zealand player while consolidating his position at the top of the list of batsmen in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings.

Williamson, named player of the series after leading his side to an innings and 176 runs win and a 2-0 victory in the two-Test series, has reached 919 rating points, bettering his own mark of 915 in December 2018. ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Richard Hadlee is the only other player from New Zealand to go past the 900-point mark, reaching a career-high 909 rating points in bowling in December 1985.

Kane now the 2nd highest Test run scorer for New Zealand, overtaking Fleming in this WTC Final.

Well played!

"Performed under pressure" and has won the World Test Championship for his country.

His 100 runs were good as 300.

Icon of NZ cricket who finally got us over the line.

You will be forever loved by NZ fans.

This was an extraordinary stroke:

Williamson is more limited than Kohli but he sticks to his strength and doesn't try anything ambitious

Struggled today before getting out to his Namibian counterpart:

Absolutely incredible from Kane Williamson - reached his fifty but not done yet!

An epic knock from the GOAT Kiwi batsman ever today, his captaincy should see NZ home, he is the biggest difference between the two sides in this WT20 final

Extremely clutch player.

First World Test Championship Final and now World T20 Final.

However, we must not forget that he was helped by his team in semi final and he could have criticized heavily had NZ lost that game for his poor show.

Another clutch innings from Kane to save us.

The biggest clutch player of the Fab 4.

Fair play to him. Didn't think he had in him to play this fast in T20s. A captain's innings, carried NZ today.

Good innings:

Another clutch innings from Kane to save us.

The biggest clutch player of the Fab 4.

Not as much as Steve Smith. Check Smith's stats in ICC tournament elimination rounds

Match - 11
Inns - 10
Runs - 418
Avg - 52.25
100s - 1
50s - 3

KW, used to put up great performances against mediocre teams, slowly transformed and made India his bunny, and now looking confident against even Eng / Aus... Grudgingly I admit that he is the most valuable of the fab 4/5

22 runs of a Starc over in a WT20 Final. Amazing from Williamson.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is likely to miss two months of cricketing action due to an elbow injury.

Williamson was ruled out of the recently-concluded second Test against India which the Kiwis lost by 372 runs.

Black Caps head coach Gary Stead has said that it is unlikely that Williamson might go for surgery.

"Kane's going along ok. Last time after the World Test Championship final and before the IPL and T20 World Cup was about eight or nine weeks. I expect it's somewhere in that time frame again. We're trying not to put time frames on it at this stage," stuff.co.nz quoted Stead as saying.

"I think surgery is unlikely. All that surgery would do is ensure that rehab is done. If we don't have to cut a tendon, our choice is not to do that. Kane's doing it tough, don't get me wrong. He loves playing for New Zealand - he hates the thought of missing any cricket, let alone test cricket for New Zealand," he added.

New Zealand will play two tests against Bangladesh and then the side will travel to Australia for three ODIs and a T20 from January 30-February 8

IPL 2022: Kane Williamson Leaves SRH Bio-Bubble For The Birth Of His Second Child
IPL 2022: Kane Williamson is flying back to New Zealand to be with his family for the birth of his second child, SunRisers Hyderabad announced on Wednesday.

SunRisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson has left their bio-bubble to fly back to New Zealand for the birth of his child, the franchise said on Wednesday. "Our skipper Kane Williamson is flying back to New Zealand, to usher in the latest addition to his family. Here's everyone at the #Riser camp wishing Kane Williamson and his wife a safe delivery and a lot of happiness!" SRH wrote in their tweet. The announcement came a day after Williamson led SRH to a 3-run win against Mumbai Indians to keep alive their slim hopes of making it to the IPL 2022 playoffs.

Williamson and his wife are expecting their second child.

The New Zealand skipper has played 13 matches this season for SRH after being retained by the franchise, but has failed to deliver with the bat, scoring just 216 runs at a strike rate of 93.51.

Williamson turning up in another tournament final, scores 59 0ff 38.

150 up for Kane Williamson in the first test in Karachi - the 9th time he's passed the mark in Test cricket. He's been out there for 330 balls & almost 500 minutes.

In this series he's becoming the assassin of the game itself. Playing so slowly that leaving no chance of an outcome. Not sure what's wrong with him.

Just give couple of shots more to Cheteshwar Pujara and the result will be Kane Williamson.

He's back. Williamson has a stellar record against Pakistan.

Kane Williamson has opted out of the series against Bangladesh and he will also not be available for the T20 series against Pakistan. He is having a lot of fitness issues and he also played the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 with injury.
