I´m a couple of days late on this, but regardless.....

So as you all know, Danny Morrison has been up to his usual self and has often being spotted amidst the spectators. So this became a hit as almost everyone in the crowd has a request for him to join them there, and he has obliging them often.

So on Friday turned up a guy with the same request written on his shirt. Maybe for security reasons or whatever, Danny arranged for the guy to come upstairs into the commentary box, instead of himself going there.

He walks in and then it gets really awkward; without any proper of introduction or anything, without any "announcement", the guy proceeds to do mimicry of Inzamam-ul-Haq (Urdu-English mixed) live on air on the mic! Mel Jones has no idea what the guy is on about, neither has Danny, but somehow it was finally over when Shafiq got out (against Islamabad) I think as the commentators had to take over.

The more awkward thing is, being the chief selector, there´s every chance that poor Inzamam might´ve been watching the match! :)))

Several strange things at the PSL regarding the coverage which I must say has largely been poor.

Danny Morrison has done his best to provide some entertainment but the rest are largely wooden and stale. Wilkins overdoing the Urdu makes me cringe, the player interviews are awkward as are the interviews of the catch a crore winners. The post match presentations are frankly amateur, despite the fact that Ramiz has been doing this for years.

Lots of room for improvement.

Danny going into the crowd and mingling with fans was initially fun but now it is just getting plain cringeworthy. His dancing with the cheerleader the other day was also in bad taste.

Mel Jones is the personal cheerleader of every Aussie that is playing the PSL and on top of that she is prone to making plenty of mistakes (several times she has declared the over as finished when there is a ball to go)

Alan Wilkins is overdoing his Urdu thing. Yeah sure it was nice at first but now the novelty factor is fast wearing off. Often times he is just practicing his Urdu on air instead of concentrating on the match.

Ramiz being his usual unprofessional self, mixing up names on the fly. Called Babar Azam as Zulfiqar, called Rizwan as Sarfaraz, has zero knowledge about any of the new players and is overall just plain pathetic. In the last match Karachi had a string of slow overs and had scored something like 8 runs in the previous two overs with the required rate flirting with the sky, Rambo declares "the innings is progressing with a good rhythm"

Bazid is the only one who is somewhat better, but he is too monotone or boring.

Mel Jones just talking about the pitch ahead of the IU vs KK match - awful. Didn't have a clue what she was talking about.

I'm all for women being given the opportunity to commentate or sit in the studio or do player interviews etc but only if they are any good and know what they are talking about.

It's a T20 league the commentary isn't the most important thing. Replace Mel Jones and maybe Ramiz than the team isn't that bad.

Agreed, but to be honest, her being a woman has nothing to do with it. She is being paid to do something but isnt doing it very well. Your comment implies that she is solely there because she is a woman.

Like you commented earlier, Ramiz for some reason has also been terrible at the post match presentation, but no mention is made to his gender (rightly) because it has nothing to do with his incompetence.

Seems pretty clear to me that the PSL organisers are very keen to have a couple of women involved in the presentation of the PSL. Neither are up to the job.

As for Ramiz, total incompetence in all facets, irrespective of his gender.

Keep them coming Mel - now gets the name of the curator wrong.

PSL will go nowhere with clowns like Danny. Wilkins is past his prime as well.

@ Saj why so critical at the PSL?

Why not?

If something is good about it, I will say it. If it needs improving I will say it.

I'm not one of those people who will just say it's good for the sake of it and just to keep people happy.

I have found that the commentary and punditry team is very lethargic as a whole, all of them exhibit no genuine excitement. The only one upbeat was Morrison but even he is now getting boring. The near empty grounds with ten people shouting etc add to the terrible atmosphere.

Honestly, this league has to be in Pakistan to survive but we know that can't happen.

Jones made the same "over" mistake again today.

Wow as I read this she just did it again:yk

wilkos Urdu is getting cringier and cringier. And Mel Jones is an average commie. Though they are better than Symcox from PSL 1. I dont mind Danny Morrison i think he knows that this is just a Tamasha and is having fun though does go overboard at times . Ian Bishop is heads and shoulders above everyone as a commie. Rambo is Rambo sometimes decent sometimes awful i feel he is a lot more lax in PSL because its his domain and he can be a King here. Fazeer Mohammed should have been included hes a very enjoyable commie to listen to. Some of the exchanges between Wilko and Bazid have been cringeworthy especially when Wilko was on air asking Bazid how to pronounce his name. At times it seems like he is using PSL as his Urdu class.

I hate it when Wilkins says 'chakkaaaa' after every six, so cringeworthy.

It's sad how people are entertained by fools like Morrison.

He caters to the audience in the stadium though, who think it's a good idea to come to the stadium with plastic toys.

He is just a circus clown.

I think they are doing the best they can but ultimately, they need a atmosphere/crowd to feed off which they are not getting while playing in the UAE.

I think we should appreciate the PCB for establishing PSL. No one thought PSL would even happen let alone make a profit or have the final in Lahore. Yes, there are areas which need improvement but it will take time. IPL was a gong show in its first couple seasons as well. Us Pakistani 's always see the negative in everything, I think it's time we focus a little bit more on the positives.

I think the commentators at time trying to pull each other leg get's a bit too much.

Also Zainab sideline interviews are very amateurish.

You can't expect everyone and everything to be perfect in 1st or 2nd time. Let this league go into third and fourth season, i'm pretty sure that with each season things will improve. You don't see an english speaking sports presenter in Pakistan that too a woman.

Besides that with this league PCB is finding its feet back in cricketing world, once this league is established. Commentators will be lining up as well as the players.

the general media coverage is not good and continues to go down. the franchise twitter and snapchat handles are beyond horrible and being managed by people with no media training at all and are being used as public domains for promotion for certain individuals.

ian bishop is a saving grace for this panel.

Ramiz Raja "Dean Jones will present the green cap to Dwayne Smith who is the leading runscorer at the PSL"

Dean Jones wasn't even there - I mean can Ramiz not see that Dean Jones is not stood there !

Although I understand the point you all are making, but I haven´t felt too irritated overall by the coverage. If these were international matches, then surely I´d say that this has been way off the mark. Bishop has been the stand-out guy so far, he´s my favourite commentator anyway. Bazid´s commentary was too much of a sedative the last time around, but he too has improved somewhat. So I don´t have too many complaints of their "silliness".

Mel Jones just talking about the pitch ahead of the IU vs KK match - awful. Didn't have a clue what she was talking about.

I´m not the one to care for pitch reports in these league cricket matches, but had nothing else to do and sat through the one you´re mentioning. Well, it was pretty average I must say. It was, in a nutshell, "If you bowl well you´ll get wickets, and if you bat well you´ll get runs." :najam

Mel Jones is a complete waste of space and should stay home. Enough of this gender equality, sexism, feminism BS. She is awful at her job.

Those criticizing Morrison should go spend a day with Chishty uncle. This is T20s FGS, Morrison provides great entertainment and definitely belongs there.

Wilkins is fine, I like him. Yes he slightly overdoes it but I think he's doing alright.

Ramiz has his moments and is sometimes downright annoying.

Bishop is fantastic, as is Bazid despite being monotonous.

All in all not much to complain about. Mel should seriously go home, though.

I would keep Mel Jones over Ramiz, Morrison and the other clowns who aren't Bazid or Bishop tbh. She hasn't been great but at least she is relatively new to this and may improve, the rest have spent years proving they're incompetent.

I think Mel has been a breath of fresh air. People talk about monotone but nothing worse than just hearing same old hackneyed boys talk from the old boys brigade.

Mel Jones has been technically below par, her analysis of the Game and Pitch is plain wrong! Danny, Ian and Rameez have largely no clue about the Pakistani Domestic Scene at all so their opinions are speculative and clearly forced.

Bazid can put a person to sleep even in the most exciting parts of the Game.

I would get Amir sohail and Mohammad Wasim into the box and it will be an upgrade (not ideal but better then what we have).

Yeah,i don't seem to understand why people hate him. From my view he is perfect for T20 Cricket, who is one hell of a entertainer.

cringeworthy how many times cringeworthy has been used in this thread.
i dont think the production is 2 bad. theres is always room for improvement

Danny morrison is fine behind the mic. But when the camera is on him, he tries too hard to be funny.

All these pundits are gone as they refused to travel to Pakistan.

Danny too? I didn't expect that.. He was in Karachi only a couple of months ago and was having a lot of fun without any security too.

Alan Wilkins commentary gets worse by the game. The way he says Chaka after every six is cringeworthy and he seems more focused on trying to improve his Urdu than commentate on the match.

On an inferior broadcast, Allah khair.:yk3

According to crinfo, the companies responsible for Hawk Eye and spider-cam have pulled out as well.

Can't wait for the Final now as Chushti saab commentates in a half empty stadium surrounded by half of the Pakistan army in an otherwise empty part of Lahore.

Crowning achievement for Sethi saab.

Hawkeyes an English company with mostly English employees as operators I believe which probably causes a few issues. Would be interested to see what can be done without it as I they play a major part in all statistical and visual analysis usually with ball tracking (obviously), pitch maps, speed guns etc. all being supplied to the broadcaster by them.

Wilkins has learnt "Qaabil-e-ittemaad" ("reliable") for Misbah mind you. :))

That suddenly reminded of Mohammad Akram. That guy... well, it seemed as if he took some morphine before walking into the commentary box. A free of cost cure for insomnia, his voice.

On your bicycle, mate :babar
