The standard of the Quaid-e-Azam Second XI Trophy is appalling

Now either the pitches in the 2nd XI Trophy are minefields, or more likely, the standard of batting especially against spin is woeful.

The average 1st innings total in the 2nd XI Trophy so far is 209. Teams have been bowled out for sub-200 scores on 22 occasions.

The average 1st innings total in the 1st XI Trophy however is 294, omitting the current round of fixtures. Teams have been bowled out for only 4 sub-200 scores.

In six matches of the 1st XI Trophy, 300 has been already crossed seven times. In twelve matches of the 2nd XI Trophy, 300 has only been crossed six times.

So despite all the emotional rhetoric about six FC teams being insufficient for a country the size of Pakistan, and about job losses, the talent pool underpinning the FC system is actually quite weak with many simply not FC standard.

Do you realize, these second XI players were FC cricketers a season back when they had 16+ teams in elite round & God knows how many in next slot? But, I think the wickets are deliberately kept ow scoring to get direct results - 3 day games are stupid idea in PAK because max you can get 250-260 overs; it was possible in old English County games when they played for 7 hours and bowled 18-19, sometimes 23-25 overs per hour.

Second XI is a very good idea, but it's not executed properly here. Also, second XI should have a cap of two, max three players over 30 - it's basically the A Team for each first Class Zone, it shouldn't be a second career of Imran Farhats....

Well said. It exposes roadblocks and the few performing players have so far been quickly promoted, leaving a sub-standard league behind.

Very few batsmen have dominated in the league - the highest score by any batsman is 119.

Further, quality of pitches isn’t an excuse. Awais Zia, for example, played only 3 innings to become the third highest run scorer in the tournament, while most batsmen have played 8 innings.

To top it off, bad pitches might have been indicated by low strike rates. All the top 15 batsmen have strike rates of 50+ with many in their 60s and some going up to strike rates of 70 to score their (low amounts of) runs.

Or in some sort of geriatric eleven. All old and useless players are occupying most of the playing eleven. Just look at the Sindh's fast bowling attack, Sohail Khan, Tabish Khan and Anwar Ali.

Pakistan domestic cricket is clearly not up to scratch. But if you say this, it means your an enemy of Pakistan cricket for some on this forum. The proof is in the pudding. Look at Pakistan rankings in test and ODI cricket for proof of how rubbish our domestic cricket is.

Who are you an enemy of if you say that? Most agree that there are not enough top-level cricketers in Pakistan for more than 6 first class teams

Think a little harsh on the good performers this. Think they are doing well but we cannot have the same facilities as we have for first XIs.

Majority of the top performers in the second are over the age of 30 just shows you how much talent we have or how much talent the new upcoming players are getting
