Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of an 18-year-old man in Slough on Thursday evening (May 5).

Officers from Thames Valley Police attended Trelawney Avenue at around 7.15pm following a report that a man had been stabbed in the vicinity of the parade of shops.

The victim, an 18-year-old man from Slough, was found with stab wounds being assisted by a member of the public.

He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in London for further treatment where he succumbed from his injuries.

Officers investigating the ‘very complex enquiry’ said it appeared the incident was a ‘targeted attack’.

Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Kevin Brown, head of the Major Crime Unit, said: “We have launched a murder investigation after a young man was fatally stabbed.

“His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts remain with them at this most difficult time.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are dealing with a very complex enquiry, which appears to be a targeted attack.

“I would ask anyone who may have information about this to please come forward and call 101, quoting reference 2010 of yesterday’s date (6/5).

“A scene watch is likely to be in place for some time, which is likely to have an impact on local residents and business owners, and so I would like to thank them in advance for their patience and understanding.

“Members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence while we continue to investigate and we would advise anyone with any concerns to please speak to one of our uniformed officers.”

THREE teenagers from Slough have been arrested as part of a murder investigation.

It comes after the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old man which took place in the town on Thursday, May 5.

It happened near the shops on Trelawney Avenue in Langley at about 7.15pm.

Thames Valley Police has since launched a murder investigation and as a result has arrested three teenage boys who all remain in police custody.

The victim is yet to be formally identified.

Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Kevin Brown, head of the Major Crime Unit, said: “We have made three arrests in connection to our thorough investigation into the tragic stabbing in Trelawney Avenue in Slough on Thursday evening.


“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family at this most difficult time and I would ask that their privacy is respected."

As part of today's police update, the force has also condemned the sharing of footage relating to the incident on social media.

Senior officers have urged the public not to share such distressing images and videos.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Brown added: "We are aware of videos circulating on social media relating to the incident and I would urge the public not to share them.

“This practice is abhorrent and has caused significant distress to the victim’s family and friends.

“Not only do they include distressing images, the sharing and viewing of them could lead to investigative difficulties and indeed open the perpetrators up to investigation for offences following the arrests.

“So please do not share or view these images or videos as they are not helpful to the family or police at this critical stage of the investigation."

A 14-year-old boy laughed and ran away after fatally stabbing 12-year-old Ava White, a court has been told.

A "chance encounter" became violent after an argument arose over a Snapchat video, with the defendant reportedly filming Ava and her friends without their permission.

More than 20 members of Ava's family and friends were in court for the start of the teenager's trial at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday, where the defendant - who cannot be named for legal reasons - appeared by videolink.

He denies both murder and an alternative count of manslaughter.

Charlotte Newell QC, prosecuting, said Ava and the defendant had been in Liverpool city centre with friends on the evening of 25 November last year and met "by chance encounter".

The defendant was in possession of a flick knife with a 7.5cm blade - and had pleaded guilty to having an offensive weapon.

Ava and her friends, all aged between 11 and 15, had been in the city centre watching the Christmas light switch on.

They had shared some alcohol and been "messing around" near the Royal Court Theatre before being told to move on by security staff at about 8.15pm.

They moved to Richmond Street where the defendant and his friends began filming them, later sharing the footage on Snapchat.

Ava and a friend approached the boys and asked them to stop filming and delete the footage, before being joined by more of her friends, including two older boys.

The jury was told the older boys left but the defendant and his friends then "jeered" at Ava, causing her to run towards them.

When a person under the age of 18 appears in crown court, they have no right to automatic anonymity.

However, a court can - and in this case, it has - impose Section 45 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 which prevents the media, and everyone else, from identifying the defendant.

It is illegal to publish any information which breaches this (including name, address, school, or any pictures) and it can only be lifted when the case is concluded.

Usually, members of the media will request the order be lifted at the end of the case in the interests of open justice.

However, only the judge can decide to grant the request.

When the boy was arrested for the murder of Ava White, Merseyside Police said it was "vitally important" no one "posts comments or names on social media".

Doing so breaches the order - and could jeopardise the trial and mean Ava and her family do not get justice.

Ms Newell said Ava had approached the defendant but did not "inflict any violence upon him greater than a push, nor did she produce or have any weapon".

Family members were in tears in the public gallery as footage was played to the court of Ava's final moments as she approached the teenager.

Unarmed Ava was then stabbed in the neck with the "force of a firm punch".

The defendant claimed he acted in self-defence, fearing he would be assaulted or stabbed.

But the prosecutor said: "His reaction at the time was to smirk, to laugh and to run away, leaving Ava to die whilst he sought to distance himself from his actions."

The court heard that he "began a conscious cover-up" of the crime, discarding his knife, phone and coat.

Mrs Justice Yip told the jury of eight men and four women that the defendant, who was accompanied by an intermediary, had attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and they may see him using a fidget toy to help his concentration.

The trial continues - and is expected to last three weeks.

A 14-year-old boy has died and his mother has left with serious injuries after a "ferocious" stabbing in Manchester.

The suspect, who is understood to be known to the victims, has gone on the run, with police warning the public not to approach him.

He has been described as an Asian man wearing dark clothing, aged in his mid-40s, with a medium build and of medium height.

Officers were called to reports of a domestic incident at a home in Miles Platting at about 9.30pm on Thursday, where the young boy was found with stab wounds.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he died just an hour later.

His mother, who is in her 40s, was also treated by emergency services for serious wounds and taken to hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand of Greater Manchester Police described the incident as a "ferocious attack" that officers believe was "contained and domestic-related".

"We are working at a tremendous pace to find the person that did this and to take them off the streets and into custody, where we can continue to piece together what we know about this utterly tragic incident," she added.

A large police cordon remains around the area on Bednal Avenue as officers continue their investigation.

The suspect was last seen walking along Sawley Road, which is just a street away, shortly after the attack took place.

Two people have been arrested after a teenage boy was stabbed to death a few minutes from Tottenham Hotspur's stadium in north London.

Police were called just after midday on Saturday to reports of a stabbing in Orchard Place, Tottenham, where they tried to save the 17-year-old's life.

He was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of officers and paramedics.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses and information and have arrested two males in connection with the stabbing.

The victim's family is being informed, with a post-mortem to take place soon.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman and a girl, believed to be five, were found stabbed to death in Barnet in north London.

The victims are believed to be mother and daughter and were known to the arrested man, Metropolitan Police said.
 
A man charged with murdering Zara Aleena in east London on Sunday has appeared in court and also faced charges that he tried to rape her and robbed her.

Jordan McSweeney, 29, was remanded into custody after a short hearing at Thames magistrates court.

He spoke only to confirm his full name, date of birth, and an address in Dagenham, east London. No plea was indicated and he was remanded to attend the Old Bailey on 27 July. He will next appear on 1 July for a bail application.

The court heard that Aleena, 35, was attacked at around 2am on Sunday on Cranbrook Road in Ilford, near to where she lived. Her mobile phone, keys and handbag were said to have been stolen.

Aleena was found with extensive head injuries at 2.44am by passersby. Police said a postmortem found no evidence of the use of a weapon to inflict the injuries.

Aleena’s family and friends were present in court. In a statement released through the police on Wednesday, her family said their loss was “irreparable and the void feels insurmountable”.

Aleena wanted to be a solicitor and had a law degree from the University of Westminster. Since May she had been working as an administrative officer at the Royal Courts of Justice, and had previously worked to resettle refugees.

The family statement said: “Zara was happy and at a point in her life when her joy was radiating and blossoming. She was ready to make a family of her own.

“Her sense of justice and fairness led her to a life of giving and caring for others – supporting refugees fleeing violence, giving voice to those who had less power. She had that special habit of noticing others in need and always put their needs on her agenda. A carefree spirit, with the most caring heart.”

A woman has been stabbed in the back by a cyclist in Ilford, east London, police have said.

The attacker rode off after stabbing the 27-year-old victim in St Johns Road in Ilford on Friday evening.

The Metropolitan Police have released images of a suspect they are looking for.

He is wearing black clothes and a white and black bicycle helmet, carrying a black bag and riding a distinctive green bicycle.

The woman was taken to hospital following the attack and her injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.

Chief Inspector Chris Byrne said: "I know that this attack on a woman, coming so soon after the tragic murder of Zara Aleena, will be of great concern to Londoners and particularly to people in Ilford.

"Of course, my colleagues and I share those concerns and we are working hard to do everything possible to keep people safe.

"The woman was attacked by a male riding a bicycle, who rode away in the direction of Meads Lane, Ilford.

"Anyone who recognises the person in the images circulated is urged to call police immediately."

The image shows the suspect in Meads Lane around the time of the attack.

Local people will have seen more police officers in the Ilford area since Ms Aleena's murder.

Police have deployed 'additional resources'

Mr Byrne said: "We have deployed additional resources to the local area including officers who specialise in tackling violent crime.

"We will continue to adjust our plans to ensure that officers are visible and available to support the community this weekend and in subsequent days.

"If you have any concerns or information, please do speak with those officers."

Law graduate Zara Aleena, 35, died from head and neck injuries after she was attacked in the early hours of Sunday 26 June.

She was walking home from a night out along Cranbrook Road, an area she knew well and where family said she felt "safe".

Jordan McSweeney, 29, of Church Elm Lane, Dagenham, east London, has appeared at the Old Bailey accused of murder, attempted rape and robbery.

He entered no pleas and was remanded in custody until 30 September.

A 15-year-old boy who stabbed a schoolgirl to death after a row over a Snapchat video has been sentenced for her murder.

Ava White, 12, was killed in Liverpool city centre after a Christmas lights switch-on event in November 2021.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, claimed he accidentally stabbed her in self-defence but was found guilty after a trial.

He was sentenced to life with a minimum of 13 years at Liverpool Crown Court.

The trial heard Ava and her friends became involved in an argument with the teenager and three of his friends after the boys recorded Snapchat videos of her group.

Ava's friends said the boy, who was 14 at the time, "grinned" after stabbing her in the neck with a flick-knife before fleeing the scene.

She was taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital with critical injuries and died a short time later.

Officers were called to the venue on the Uxbridge Road in Ealing just before midnight on Saturday.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a murder investigation has been launched.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering nine-year-old Lillia Valutyte in Lincolnshire.

Police said the 22-year-old suspect was held in the "Boston Central Park area" at about 2.45pm on Saturday and is now in custody.

Progress on the investigation into Lillia's death was made through a "combination of intelligence and information supplied by several members of the public".
 
A 22-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering nine-year-old Lilia Valutyte who was found stabbed in the street.

Deividas Skebas was remanded into custody by a district judge at Lincoln Magistrates' Court on Monday, where he spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during a two-minute hearing.

He was arrested on Saturday after a CCTV appeal following the death of Lilia in Boston, Lincolnshire, last Thursday.

Skebas, who appeared in a grey tracksuit, was told by District Judge Peter Deits "the offence you are facing is the most serious offence anyone can face in court".
 
A "beautiful" 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in Somerset has been named as Charley Bates as his family has paid tribute.

Charley died in The Street in the town of Radstock on Sunday evening.

Emergency services had been called to a car park there around 6.40pm following reports of disorder involving a number of people.

Charley, who lived in the area, was found critically injured and, despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenager's family said: "Our beautiful Charley Boy. We are all so very proud of you. You are desperately missed by so many."

Police charged 18-year-old Joshua Delbono, of Frome, with murder on Tuesday.

He was due to appear at Bath Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

A 15-year-old boy has been stabbed to death in a north London park.

Officers were called to Highbury Fields, Islington, at about 21:00 BST on Thursday. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital, where he died.

A crime scene is in place and a murder investigation is under way, the Metropolitan Police said.

No arrests have been made and police are trying to find the boy's next of kin.

According to an analysis of London homicides in 2022, the boy is the youngest teenager to be stabbed to death in the capital this year.

Speaking at the crime scene at midday Ch Supt Wilson said: "We believe that Mr O'Halloran was stabbed on Western Avenue before managing to travel 75 yards or so on his mobility scooter to Runnymede Gardens where he flagged down a member of the public for help," he said.

It is the sixth murder investigation to be launched in London in the last four days.

Ch Supt Wilson said Mr O'Halloran was a "much-loved" member of the Greenford community and lived locally.

Extra officers will be deployed to patrol the area in the coming days to provide reassurance.

"They are there to protect you and to help you," Ch Supt Wilson added.

"If you have any concerns or information that you want to share please approach those officers. I realised that dreadful impact that incidents like this have on our communities.

"I would like to reassure you all that we are doing all we can to solve the horrendous crimes that we have seen across London over the last few days. I stress that London remains one of the safest cities in the world."

According to BBC analysis of police crime figures, 66 murder investigations have been launched this year in London by the Met Police, City of London Police and British Transport Police (BTP).

This is slightly lower compared with this time last year where police had launched 78 murder investigations in the capital.

Nearly two-thirds of London homicide victims in 2022 have been stabbed to death.

Four people have been fatally shot - all within the last month.

Sixty-two cases have led to arrests, and 52 cases have seen someone charged with murder.

A 44-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death on his mobility scooter.

The man was arrested at an address in Southall, west London, in the early hours of Thursday and remains in custody, police said.

The heavyweight champion said on social media "RIP Rico Burton", who was "stabbed in the neck" overnight.

Fury compared knife crime to a "pandemic", adding, "you don't know how bad it is until it's one of your own".

Mr Burton, 31, was attacked in Goose Green, Altrincham, Greater Manchester, police confirmed.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident in which a 17-year-old also suffered serious injuries.

Supt Ben Ewart said one of the men, aged 21, was arrested at the scene and the other, aged 20, was arrested later. Both remain in police custody.

In an impassioned plea on social media earlier, Mr Fury wrote: "This is becoming ridiculous - idiots carry knives. This needs to stop."

The boxer demanded the government "bring back higher sentencing for knife crime".

He ended the post in tribute to his cousin:

"Life is very precious and it can be taken away very quick. Enjoy every moment.
"RIP Rico Burton - may the lord God grant you a good place in heaven, see you soon."

Supt Ewart, of Greater Manchester Police, said the emergency services had received multiple calls at about 03:00 BST on Sunday.

Arriving at the scene in a courtyard area, paramedics found the 17-year-old and Mr Burton with stab wounds and receiving first aid from members of the public.

He said both victims were taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary where Mr Burton later died.

"This is without doubt a senseless attack and both victims should have returned home this morning after enjoying a night out with friends," Supt Ewart said.

He added: "Goose Green is a popular nightspot and would have been busy at the time and I appeal for anyone who was there overnight on Saturday or anyone with information about this incident - including phone photograph footage or videos - to come forward, in particular any friends of any of the victims or suspects who may have been out with them that night who have not yet come forward.

Asked what police had been told about a possible argument, Supt Ewart said it was a "very live" investigation and that was "obviously a factor we're looking into".

Knife crimes rose by 10% to 49,027 offences in England and Wales during the year to March 2022, according to records.

Public concern about stabbings and firmer guidance for judges since 2015 have led to longer sentences, although offenders under 18 are still more likely to be cautioned than jailed.

A murder investigation is underway after a man was stabbed to death at the Notting Hill Carnival.

Several other stabbings and violent incidents were also reported.

In a statement the Metropolitan Police said that at about 8pm on Monday evening officers became aware of a stabbing in Ladbroke Grove, under the Westway flyover.

Officers provided emergency first aid to the victim - a 21-year-old man - until the arrival of London Ambulance Service paramedics. He was taken to a west London hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Dr Alison Heydari, Commander of Local Policing, said: "Officers from across the Met have been working tirelessly over the past two days to ensure that all those who came to Notting Hill Carnival could enjoy the experience safely.

"It was the culmination of months of close coordination with the organisers, our local authority and emergency service partners and the community.

"The atmosphere over the past two days has been largely positive and good natured as Carnival should be.

"Regrettably, on Monday evening we saw a number of violent incidents and a 21-year-old man has lost his life.

"Our thoughts are with his family as they come to terms with their terrible loss.

"A murder investigation is under way, led by homicide detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command.

"They will pursue every possible line of enquiry to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

"There were hundreds of people in the immediate vicinity when this incident took place.

"I would urge anyone who saw anything, who has video footage or who has any other information that could assist officers, to come forward."

The killing came on the final day of the west London carnival, which had been enjoying its first year back since the pandemic.

Close to a million people were at the event for Adults Day on Monday, with the streets once again filled with the boom of sound systems and dancers in extravagant costumes.

Police said that as of the early hours of Tuesday morning there had been a total of 209 arrests made since the start of Carnival including for drug possession, assault and sexual assault.

There were 72 seconds of silence on Monday afternoon to remember those killed in the fire at nearby Grenfell Tower - one of several gestures held over the weekend to mark the tragedy.

A 17-year-old stabbed to death in east London has been named by police.

Shae Gordon, from Enfield, north London, suffered fatal stab wounds during a disturbance in Lichfield Road, Bow and died in the early hours of Sunday.

A second teenager remains critically injured in hospital, the Metropolitan Police said.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of violent disorder and remains in custody.

Det Ch Insp Mark Rogers, who is leading the inquiry, said: "Shae's family have our assurances that we will do everything we possibly can to bring them justice and support them following their terrible loss.
 
Two police officers have been stabbed after an encounter with a man armed with a knife near Leicester Square in central London.

The officers were being treated in hospital. “We await further updates on their conditions,” the Metropolitan police said.

The deputy assistant commissioner, Stuart Cundy, said the officers had received “significant stab wounds” after tackling a male, and that a knife had been recovered from the scene.

The Met said one of the constables injured was a woman, the other male. They were based locally and hurt after challenging the suspect whom they believed had a knife.

Other officers rushed to the scene and the suspect was arrested.

One of the officers, who was stabbed three times in the neck and once in the chest, was expected to make a full recovery, said the new Met commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley. The second officer, a young woman, received a stab wound to her arm that was described by the commissioner as “life-changing”.

Two police officers are being treated in hospital after they were stabbed by a man with a knife near Leicester Square in central London.

The Metropolitan Police said a Taser was used during the incident at around 6am and a man believed to be in possession of a knife was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker.

A young female police officer suffered a potentially life-changing stab wound to her arm while a male officer was stabbed three times in the neck and once in the chest.

He is expected to make a full recovery, said Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley.

The officers' families are aware of the incident, which is not being treated as terror-related.

They are both attached to Scotland Yard's Central West Command Unit and were carrying out routine duties unconnected with the operation in the capital following the death of the Queen.

Footage from the scene shows police officers guarding an area of Whitcomb Street which has been taped off.

The suspect, in his 20s, was taken to hospital as a precaution and is now in police custody.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said the service was called to reports of an incident in Great Windmill Street, near Shaftsbury Avenue at 6.01am.

They added that three ambulances, a medic in a response car and London's air ambulance were dispatched to scene and that three people were treated and taken to hospital.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has condemned the attack and called for anyone with information about the incident to contact the police.

He described it as "utterly appalling", adding that the officers "were doing their duty and assisting the public at this momentous time for our country".

"My thoughts and prayers are with them, their loved ones and police colleagues following this disgraceful attack.

"Attacks against the police will not be tolerated and any perpetrators will be caught and prosecuted," he said.

The mayor added that he has spoken with the commissioner Sir Mark Rowley and remains in close contact.

Police said inquiries into the "circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing".

The attack happened at Woodhouse Hill at 2.45pm on Wednesday, close to the entrance of North Huddersfield Trust School. The victim was treated at the scene and taken to Leeds General Infirmary for emergency surgery but was later pronounced dead.

West Yorkshire Police said the 16-year-old was arrested at an address in Huddersfield shortly before 5am and remains in custody.

The victim’s school said it is “completely devastated” by the loss of a “wonderful student.”

In a statement posted on the North Huddersfield Trust School website, head Andrew Fell said: “It is with enormous sadness that I must tell you that following an incident on Woodhouse Hill Road yesterday one of our pupils has tragically lost their life.

Mr Fell added that the news was “truly shocking” for the school and classes would not resume until 10.30am while support would be made available for students and staff who need it.

He added: “Our deepest sympathies go out to the pupil’s family and friends who must feel, as we do, completely devastated. They have lost a loved one and we have lost a wonderful student from our school community.”

“West Yorkshire Police have launched an urgent investigation, so it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time. I would urge everyone not to engage in speculation about possible causes or perpetrators and allow the police to make their enquiries. A statement has been released.”

Part of Bishopsgate has been cordoned off, near to its corner with Camomile Street, after City of London Police was called at 09:46 BST.

The BBC has been told a victim of a "phone snatch" was injured after fighting back, along with other members of the public who stepped in to help.

Police confirmed the case was being treated as a suspected robbery, adding it was not terror-related.

In a tweet, the City of London Police said: "We received reports of three stabbings and a person pushed to the floor on Bishopsgate at 09:46 and officers arrived at the scene at 09:51."
 
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder after the fatal stabbing of another boy the same age in Gateshead.

Northumbria Police confirmed the youth has also been charged with attempted wounding with intent and having a bladed article in a public place.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons because of his age, was due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The charges follow the death of Tomasz Oleszak, who was found in the Aycliffe Crescent area of the Springwell Estate at just after 8pm on Monday.

Police said that his injuries were "consistent with having been caused by a bladed article".

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said Tomasz leaves behind his mother Kamila, father Patryk and a little brother, aged six.

Kamila said: "Tomasz was an amazing son, a kind and caring role model to his little brother and a great friend to so many.

A 19-year-old student was stabbed to death in Manchester on Wednesday night.

The man was killed in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the popular student area of Fallowfield.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police gave him CPR but he died later in hospital.

The victim has not been named, but his next of kin have been informed and are now being supported by officers.

Detective Superintendent Neil Jones said that officers are "working round the clock" to work out what happened and catch the killer.

"This was a terrible crime which has robbed a young man of his life, and my thoughts are with his family at this devastating time," he added.

"We are actively pursuing leads and will relentlessly pursue the offender to ensure they are brought to justice."

Multiple failures by West Midlands Police officers "materially contributed" to the deaths of a woman and her mother who were murdered by the daughter's abusive estranged husband, an inquest has found.

Raneem Oudeh, 22, and her mother, Khaola Saleem, were stabbed to death outside Mrs Saleem's home in Solihull in August 2018.

They were murdered as Ms Oudeh was on the phone to West Midlands Police, one of several 999 calls she had made to report how scared she was of Janbaz Tarin, her estranged husband.

Tarin admitted the murders and was jailed for life with a minimum of 32 years in December 2018.

The inquest has heard evidence of police call-outs to Ms Oudeh's address on seven separate occasions in the weeks leading up to the murders.

Recordings of 999 calls were played to the inquest jury, where she was told "go to your Mum's, lock the door, and we will see you tomorrow."

She had reported threats to kill, violence and stalking, but officers failed to arrest or investigate Tarin before the murders.

Weeks before he murdered her, she had left her husband after discovering he had three children and a secret wife who was pregnant with a fourth child in Afghanistan.

The inquest was told that in the months leading up to the stabbings Ms Oudeh called 999 14 times to report incidents of domestic abuse which included threats to kill her and to stab her and yet repeatedly police did not log these reports correctly, did not follow up on them correctly, and did not assess them correctly.

West Midlands Police on Friday admitted frankly, "we should have done more," and said Raneem and Khaola's family's dignity throughout the inquest "has been humbling".

An investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct found there were "missed opportunities".

Ms Oudeh had also told family members, Tarin had threatened her, saying "if you leave me, I will kill you and your family".

She had been living with Tarin and her two-year-old son from a previous relationship, but neighbours say she had moved back to her mother's house after a series of rows.

Tarin continued to harass and threaten her, sleeping outside Mrs Saleem's house for 12 consecutive nights.

On the night of the murder in August 2018 the pair were seen on CCTV arguing in a shisha lounge in Birmingham.

Ms Oudeh, who was with her mother as the argument escalated, was seen on the footage calling 999, her first of four calls to police that night.

Tarin was kicked out by staff, but moments later drove past in his van, indicating a cutting motion across his neck towards Ms Oudeh.

He then drove to his father's supermarket and hid a 12-inch steak knife in his waistband before leaving.

His van was captured on CCTV driving towards Mrs Saleem's home in Solihull.

At 12.26am, Ms Oudeh made the last of her calls to police that evening to say she would be at the Solihull address.

Ten minutes later, they called her back to say officers would call her the following morning to go through the incident.

During that call screaming could be heard in the background, with the words "he's there, there, there".

There were further screams before the call went silent.

The women both died of multiple stab wounds during a frenzied attack.

Tarin fled the scene, but was arrested days later following a major manhunt.

Kinaan Saleem, 19, Mrs Saleem's daughter, who was babysitting Ms Oudeh's son and witnessed the murder, told Sky News: "I was just about to go to bed until I heard screaming, loads of screaming.

"I looked outside my window and I saw my mother already on the floor and my sister standing next to the perpetrator and he did his killing and dropped his knife and went to the van."

Kinaan was just 14 years old at the time.

"Until this day, it's been really hard to deal with," she said.

"It's just really hard to cope. From the first call to a police officer, it could have been prevented. Knowing that she actually cried for help and begged for them, and they did not come at all."

Nour Norris, Mrs Saleem's sister and Ms Oudeh's aunt, said: "It's like watching a horror movie in slow motion as we head to the inevitable conclusion."

"It was devastating to us because we'd never heard those calls before. Raneem was very clear," she told Sky News.

She said the family were "very deeply disappointed, very angry, mixed emotions. We are very concerned today about domestic abuse victims and what is happening to them".

"We do blame the police because the proof of the inquest has shown very clear that the system is failing miserably," she added.

"The death of my sister and my niece could have been prevented."

A man in Romford, believed to be in his 20s, was also rushed to hospital with knife wounds on Friday night, which he sustained following a terrifying chase through East London.

Writing on Twitter, police confirmed the man was chased by assailants armed with knives near Romford Railway Station, East London.

In Twickenham, a man was stabbed on Friday morning and was left fighting for his life in hospital. His condition has since been updated to non-life-threatening.

Following the horror attack, an air ambulance landed at the scene and videos posted online showed a huge police presence.

Two men are believed to have since been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

In Homerton, a man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the shoulder outside the overground station on Friday.

Police were called to the incident just before 6pm and found the man who had been stabbed in an attempted robbery.

Met Police told said: "The victim's injuries are not life threatening; no arrests, enquiries into the incident is ongoing."

A fifth stabbing accorded in the early hours of Friday morning, at around 2:25am, when a man in his 30s was found suffering stab wounds in Bexleyheath.

Police said: "Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the man, believed aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment. He remains there in a critical condition. No arrests; enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing."

Given the proximity in time and distance of the incidents, officers are trying to establish any link between the two deaths, the Metropolitan Police said.

Crime scenes are in place at both locations and a Section 60 order, providing officers with additional search powers, is in place until 8am on Sunday.

The two boys' next of kin will be provided with support by specialist officers, police said.

"I can assure everybody affected by these murders that skilled detectives will work tirelessly to discover what happened and provide answers to the young victims and families."

He added: "Officers are especially keen to hear from anyone who might have seen a dark-coloured SUV or 4x4 type with distinctive silver roof bars in the areas around Sewell Road or Titmuss Avenue in the days prior to the murders.

"We have already heard from a number of witnesses and I'm grateful to them."

A black Nissan on Titmuss Avenue has been cordoned off and officers said it was a "car of interest" in the investigation.

The Met has urged anyone with information to contact them. Overnight it was granted powers to stop and search people.

At around 2pm Sylvester and his friend, Leon Gruber, 18, approached Stelios and his two friends who were sitting on a bench at the recreation ground. Sylvester and Gruber asked if they were from a rival gang before robbing them

During the altercation Stelios resisted and was stabbed in the thigh with an enormous knife by Sylvester - the wound was around eight inches long and four inches wide.

The 23-year-old man stabbed to death on the dancefloor of a Birmingham nightclub has been named as footballer Cody Fisher.

His family said in a statement: "They have broken our hearts; I have lost my best friend. My family and I are asking for privacy and respectfulness at this heart-breaking time."

West Midlands Police were called to The Crane nightclub in Digbeth just before 11.45pm on Boxing Day.

Police said Mr Fisher had been on a night out with friends when he was approached by a group of people and stabbed.

Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead around half an hour later. Police have launched a murder investigation.

Mr Fisher played for Stratford Town FC, who are in the Southern League Premier Division Central. He had also played for Bromsgrove Sporting.

Stratford Town's Chairman, Jed McCrory told Sky News that "everyone is devastated by the news" and described Mr Fisher as a "talented footballer" and a "lovely, lovely young man".

Cody Fisher, 23, a non-league footballer and school sports coach, was attacked at The Crane nightclub just before midnight on Boxing Day.

The murder suspect, 22, was held in London at about 03:00 GMT, police said.

An application has been made for the club's licence to be reviewed, with officers describing "scenes of chaos".

Four other people have been arrested in the capital on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Two were held on Wednesday and two on Thursday.

A post-mortem test confirmed Mr Fisher, who played left-back for clubs including Bromsgrove Sporting, Stourbridge and Stratford Town, died of a stab wound.

A knife had been recovered from the scene of the stabbing, said West Midlands Police.

Detectives are continuing to question two men, aged 21 and 22, on suspicion of his murder, following their arrests on Wednesday.

The fatal stabbing happened just before 23:45 at the club in the Digbeth area of the city.

Police believe Mr Fisher was approached by a group before being attacked.

The force said licensing officers would be asking for "immediate measures" in regards to the club to be put in place at a Birmingham City Council hearing set to take place at 10:00 on Friday.

In its application, the force said it was calling for the review due to the nature of the crime and the "serious management failings of the premises concerned".

It also described a scene of chaos on the night with "hundreds of small drugs bags and nitrous oxide cannisters" evident on the dance floor.

"Oblivious" staff members had begun cleaning up the crime scene after the stabbing, according to one sergeant's account.

"While officers are doing CPR, you can see people are just wandering around in the scene freely.

"As soon as we had more officers on the scene they were removed and the whole dancefloor was cordoned off and the area was made sterile," the sergeant said.

An event planned for New Year's Eve has already been cancelled by the venue.

In a statement, the management of The Crane previously said its staff were "deeply shocked and saddened" by the incident.

In response to the review of its licence, a spokesperson said: "An expedited review of a premises licence is normal whenever any serious crime takes place at a licensed premises, and we are cooperating fully.

"Whilst it would be wrong for us at this stage to react to individual, anecdotal accounts of the circumstances that applied on Boxing Day, we do employ extensive and professional security procedures for all public events, and our contracted security staff are professionals who are licensed by the SIA.

"But we will of course be conducting a full and detailed review in light of this week's tragedy, as well as assisting fully with the ongoing police inquiry."

Det Ch Insp Ian Ingram, from West Midlands Police, said, with seven people in custody, the force was continuing to "build a picture of events" that had led to the murder.

"We are determined to get answers and justice for Cody's friends and family, and won't stop until that happens," he said.

"We are keeping them updated with developments as they happen and continue to support them through this awful time."

People were continuing to come forward with information, he added, but he issued a fresh appeal for anyone else at the club on the night to get in touch.

"If you have footage that we have not yet seen, or you know what may have happened in the lead up to Boxing Day's awful events, I'd urge you to do the right thing and speak to us right now."

Tributes to the player have been posted on social media, including one from Jess Chatwin who said: "My baby's smile how can you take him away. It was meant to be us forever. I'm so sorry my baby you didn't deserve this."

Walsall Football Club, where Mr Fisher had previously played, held a minute's silence before youth team training on Wednesday.
Woodrow First School, in Redditch, Worcestershire, where Mr Fisher coached children, said everyone had been left devastated over the "tragic and needless" death of the "bright, friendly and talented young man".

Tributes will be held at a match against Stratford on 2 January, Bromsgrove Sporting chairman Mike Burke said.

He added the event would be an opportunity to "show our love and respect to him on that day".

Two men have been charged with murder following the stabbing of footballer Cody Fisher at a nightclub in Birmingham on Boxing Day.

Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, both from Birmingham, have been remanded in custody, police said.

The men, who were also charged with affray, will appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court on 2 January.

Mr Fisher, 23, a non-league footballer and a school sports coach, was attacked at the Crane nightclub in Digbeth.

A man, 22, also arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released on bail.

And four other people arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Ingram, from West Midlands Police, said the arrests were "a significant development in our investigation," as the force "seeks to get justice for Cody, his family and friends".

He added officers were keen to hear from anyone with further information about the incident.

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death in Hull.

Police found the injured victim after being called to Princes Dock Street at around 11.20pm on Friday.

He later died in hospital, and his family are being supported by specially trained officers from Humberside Police.

The four suspects remain in custody, while cordons are in place in Princes Dock Street and Queen's Gardens.

Senior investigating officer Doug Blackwood said the force was working through CCTV footage, taking witness statements and carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

People living close by have been warned to expect an increased number of officers in the area over the weekend.

A man is in a serious condition after being stabbed in an attack which police are treating as attempted murder.

Police Scotland said the incident happened in the early hours of Monday in Clydebank.

A 38-year-old man went to a takeaway on Alexander Street for help after being stabbed by another man in the close of nearby flats.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where his condition was described as serious but stable.

On the eve of the coronation, with the nation looking the other way, the teenager was one of three people stabbed to death in separate incidents in east London over eight hours.

Wazabakana Elenda “Jordan” Kukabu, 18, was found with a stab wound to his chest near Dagenham Heathway tube station after police were called to reports of men armed with machetes, while Sebastian Zon, 27, was killed at a flat in Hackney.

The Labour MP Stella Creasy said the spate of stabbings showed that the “epidemic” of youth crime needed urgent action.

“No family should have to deal with the pain of losing a child, let alone to do so at the hands of another – yet across the country many are and many more are living with the epidemic of youth and violent crime that we are facing,” said Creasy.

“We have to ask how much more death and serious harm it will take before the government recognises that this is a crisis which needs urgent action – and that this action needs to go beyond stop and search to asking how we ensure every young person has the mental health and mentoring support they need.

“If we don’t we could end up with a lost generation of young people who think carrying a knife is the only way to stay alive.”

Knife crime is a complex issue. In recent years, there has been growing acceptance that societal factors are its driving forces.

A study titled Young People and Street Crime, commissioned by the Youth Justice Board across 32 London boroughs, illustrated that when other relevant social and economic factors were taken into account, race and ethnicity had no significance at all.

And while it is too early to know exactly what was behind these stabbings, it has left families bereft.

The families of 19-year-old university students Grace Kumar and Barnaby Webber and school caretaker, Ian Coates, have issued heartfelt statements after the victims were stabbed to death in a deadly rampage on Tuesday.

Miss Kumar was described as "a truly wonderful young lady" who was "resilient and wise beyond her years", while Mr Webber's family said the teenager was a "bright young man" who was "a talented and passionate cricketer".

Mr Coates' family called him as a "massive football fan" and a "great father".

Miss Kumar's family said: "Grace was an adored daughter and sister; she was a truly wonderful and beautiful young lady.

"Grace was not just a sister to James but his best friend. He is completely heartbroken. As parents, words cannot explain our complete and utter devastation. She will be so dearly missed.

Police are continuing to question a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder after the attacks in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

sad news on what occured, i live 15mins walk away from where the 2 young students died, regular go on that street for food, and where the janitor died - thats again 15mins walk from my house - he was killed right out side a rival tennis club i play against, and go to - i walk up that street quite regular to play.

Thr were another 3 people - were run down him in the car - 1 is critical in hospital - other 2 are still in hospital but deemed serious.

The place where he got arrested is 5mins walk from my house - i actually use that road to job - edge of the main forest park, bentick road has 1 main primary school on it and a very small islamic school - that road only 200m long.

Elianne Andam: Boy, 17, charged with murder of 15-year-old girl who was stabbed to death on her way to school in Croydon

Elianne Andam died on Wednesday near the Whitgift shopping centre in Croydon, south London, during the morning rush hour.

Police responded to the incident in Wellesley Road within two minutes but she was pronounced dead at the scene at around 9.20am.

The teenager charged, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear at youth court, sitting at Croydon Magistrates' Court, later today.

He has been charged with murder and possession of a knife.

On Thursday, Elianne's family said their "hearts are broken" following her death.

"Elianne was the light of our lives. She was bright and funny, with many friends who all adored her," they said in a statement.

"She was only 15, and had her whole life ahead of her, with hopes and dreams for the future.

"All those dreams have now been shattered. Our lives have fallen apart, along with that of our wider family."

A 23-year-old man who was known to the victim was arrested at the scene in Croydon, south London, on suspicion of murder and taken to hospital after suffering a minor head injury.

Three men have been charged with murder after a 17-year-old was fatally stabbed in west London.

Amandeep Singh, 21, Manjit Singh, 27, and 31-year-old Ajmeer Singh, all of Southall, west London, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court today, the Metropolitan Police said.

A fourth man, 71, remains in police custody.

Simarjeet Singh Nangpal was found by police with stab injuries after a suspected fight in Burket Close, Hounslow, at 12.15am on Wednesday.

The teenager, who was local to the area, died at the scene despite the efforts of the emergency services.

Two men and two women arrested on suspicion of murder after man found stabbed

Police have started a murder investigation after a 49-year-old man was stabbed in Hackney, east London.

Officers and London Ambulance Service found the man after being called to Cranwood Street in the early hours of Boxing Day.

They said despite their efforts, the victim died as a result of his stabbing injuries.

Four people - two men aged 49 and 42 and two women aged 35 and 44 - have been arrested on suspicion of murder. and remain in custody.

Idris Elba calls for immediate ban on 'zombie' knives

Actor Idris Elba has urged the government to immediately ban machetes and so-called zombie knives, saying it's "time to push the agenda as strongly as we can".

The Luther star has launched a campaign called Don't Stop Your Future, and told Sky News that "the nation wants to see that we do care about our youth".

"We're seeing a rise not a decline and that needs to change," Elba said.

"What [a ban] will symbolically say is that our society has no tolerance for it," the actor added, urging the government to "put it at the absolute forefront" of the legislative agenda.

Elba is also lobbying for more funding in youth services and is releasing a song titled Knives Down in an effort to tackle serious youth violence across the UK.

He has urged the government to convene a cross-party, cross-governmental working group that brings together stakeholders who have a role to play in tackling knife crime.

An installation of neatly folded outfits, each representing someone who has died through knife crime on UK streets, is also on display in Parliament Square in central London.

The Home Office said in August 2023 that tougher measures on machetes and zombie-style knives would be introduced.

But Parliament has been slow to pass new legislation, with several more attacks occurring since - including the killing of schoolgirl Elianne Andam.

The 15-year-old was stabbed to death on her way to school in Croydon, south London, in September with what was believed to be a large zombie knife.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with her murder.

Patrick Green, chief executive of anti-knife crime charity the Ben Kinsella Trust, said: "Idris's Don't Stop Your Future campaign is a vital and much-needed intervention to shine a spotlight on serious youth violence, which has been neglected for too long.

"It's horrifying that hardly a day goes by without the tragic news of someone being hurt, maimed, or even killed with a machete or zombie knife."

Boy, 17, stabbed to death in Birmingham city centre named by police


A 17-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in Birmingham city centre has been named as Muhammad Hassam Ali.

Police said the victim, who was discovered with serious knife wounds by police in Victoria Square at about 3.30pm on Saturday, appeared to have been killed in a case of mistaken identity.

Detectives from West Midlands Police are hunting for Muhammad's killer as family released a picture of him.

The force said the stabbing is not believed to be gang-related but have not yet found a motive or made any arrests.

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood said: "This is a tragic case of a young man being killed in what appears to be a case of mistaken identity.

"We are still trying to establish the motive and are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area just before 3.30pm yesterday.

"We are especially looking for any photos or video footage from the surrounding area which may help us identify those responsible.

"If you were walking through the area at the time, or a visitor who may have been taking pictures by The River statue near the Council House, we would like to hear from you as you may have vital information or evidence."

The cordon in the square, which is home to Birmingham's city council building, has since been lifted, but there will be a heightened police presence in the area, the force said.

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage and have set up a major incident public portal for people to submit any photos or videos of the incident.

Norwich deaths: Girls died of knife wounds

Two girls found dead alongside other family members in a house died of knife wounds to the neck, post-mortem tests showed.

The bodies of Jasmin Kuczynska, 12, and Natasha Kuczynska, eight, were found in Costessey, near Norwich, on Friday.

Detectives confirmed they were treating their deaths and that of Kanticha Sukpengpanao, 36, as murder.

Ms Sukpengpanao and Bartlomiej Kuczynski, 45, were earlier found to have died from stab wounds to the neck.

All four bodies were discovered by police officers at a house in Allan Bedford Crescent, Queen's Hills.

Police said Mr Kuczynski's death was not being treated as suspicious and they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the murders.

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of two teenagers in south Bristol.

Police officers were called to the scene in Knowle West, just after eleven o'clock on Saturday.

They believe the two boys, aged 15 and 16, had been attacked by a number of people who made off from the scene in a car.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said they arrived at the scene within minutes of the first call and did what they could to provide first aid.

The victims sustained stab wounds and were taken to two hospitals – Southmead Hospital and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children – by ambulance, where they died in the early hours of Sunday.

An investigation into the incident is being led by the force's Major Crime Investigation Team. A 44-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested and remain in custody.

In a statement, the police's Bristol Commander Supt Mark Runacres said: “This is an incredibly shocking and tragic incident where two young boys, who had their whole lives ahead of them, have sadly died.

“Our collective thoughts are with their families at what is undoubtedly a very difficult time. Specialist family liaison officers will now be assigned to the families to provide them with support and keep them updated on the investigation.

“A cordon is in place on Ilminster Avenue between Newquay Road and Tavistock Road, and members of the public can expect to see a large police presence as forensic searches and other enquiries are conducted.

“There are a significant number of properties within the cordon and we would like to apologise for the disruption caused, but we hope people understand the importance of the work being carried out."

A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed on a train in south London.

It follows an incident between Beckenham Junction and Shortlands railway stations on Wednesday.

Rakeem Thomas will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on 30 April at 10am, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

He has been remanded into custody.

The 19-year-old has also been charged with being in possession of an offensive weapon.

The alleged victim, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital, where police earlier said he was in a "critical but stable condition".

A murder investigation is under way after a man was stabbed to death near Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Northumberland Park in Haringey just before 6am on Sunday after a man was found unresponsive.

Police found the man had several stab wounds, and despite attempts by paramedics to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers believe they have identified the victim and are working to inform his next of kin.

No arrests have been made.

The strange fact is the police has been far more prepared in dealing with watch thefts due to the profile of the victims than the hundreds of youth who are casualties of stabbings on a regular basis. There's more UK media coverage of mass shootings in the US than stabbings happening locally.

When people find solace in simply ignoring societal breakdown, it's a sign of worse things to come.
 
Bradford stabbing: Murder suspect was on bail for 'threats to kill' at time

A man suspected of fatally stabbing a mother in Bradford city centre was on bail at the time for allegedly threatening to kill her, it has emerged.

West Yorkshire Police have launched a manhunt for Habibur Masum - who is wanted on suspicion of murdering 27-year-old Kulsuma Akter on Saturday.

According to the PA news agency, Masum was conditionally bailed in November after being charged with assaulting and threatening to kill Ms Akter - who is from Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Both offences were alleged to have happened in Manchester.

Court documents seen by PA say the 25-year-old man had pleaded not guilty to both offences at a hearing on 27 November and was ordered by Manchester Magistrates' Court not to contact Ms Akter.

West Yorkshire Police said earlier that Ms Akter was attacked at around 3.20pm on Saturday while with her baby in the Westgate area of Bradford city centre.

Assistant Chief Constable Damien Miller said in a press conference: "Despite the best efforts of members of the public, ambulance crews and hospital staff, Kulsuma sadly lost her life due to the injuries.

"Her baby is safe and well and was not harmed in this incident."

Officers searching for Masum say they have carried out "a number of raids" in Burnley, Oldham, and Chester, as part of the investigation.

Alfie Lewis stabbed in heart 'in full view' of primary school pupils and parents, court hears

A teenager was stabbed through the heart by a 14-year-old "in full view" of primary school pupils and parents, a court has heard.

Alfie Lewis, 15, was killed in the attack in Horsforth, Leeds, in November 2023.

He was walking to meet friends when the defendant stabbed him with a 13cm kitchen knife, said prosecutor Craig Hassall KC.

Witnesses said Alfie looked "surprised and shocked" and asked the boy: "What are you doing?", the trial was told.

"He was approached by (the defendant), and stabbed twice - once in the chest and once in the leg," Mr Hassall told Leeds Crown Court.

"He collapsed and died in the road close to the primary school in full view of scores of pupils leaving school and the people who were waiting to collect them."

The knife wound to Alfie's chest was 14cm (5.5 inches) deep and punctured his heart, according to a post-mortem examination.

The court was told the defendant fled and dropped the weapon in the road near St Margaret's Primary School.

Mr Hassall said he believed the boy would claim he was acting in self-defence.

However, he told the court all the witnesses said Alfie wasn't the aggressor and didn't try to attack or threaten him.

Mr Hassall said a friend of the defendant - who walked away shortly before - said he heard Alfie say "chill out", before seeing his friend stab Alfie twice.

The boy, who denies murder, sat next to his father as the trial began on Monday. He cannot be named for legal reasons because of his age.

The court also heard about two previous incidents between Alfie and the boy.

One was said to have taken place in July 2023, when Alfie intervened in a fight involving the defendant, and the second on Halloween, when Alfie said the defendant threw a firework at him.

In video evidence, a 15-year-old girl told the jury the fight was between her younger brother and the defendant.

She said she was hit in the face by the defendant, but Alfie pushed him and said: "Why are you hitting a girl?"

He fell over, but the court heard Alfie helped him up and they shook hands.

Teenage girl arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after stabbings at school

A teenage girl has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two teachers and a pupil were stabbed at a school in West Wales.

Police confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that three people were injured at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman school and are being treated for stab wounds.

Their injuries are not life-threatening, police have said.

Dyfed-Powys Police say the incident happened at about 11.20am on Wednesday morning.

The force confirmed the school was put into lockdown "for the safety of all on the premises".

Pupils were released from the school at around 3.20pm, with hundreds of parents gathered outside to collect them.

The teenage girl is currently in police custody and a knife has been recovered in evidence, police said in an update at the scene.

Hainault sword attack: Man charged with murder after boy, 14, killed and four injured

A man has been charged with murder after 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin was killed and four people were injured near a London Tube station.

Two Metropolitan Police officers were among those hurt as they responded to reports of an attacker with a sword in Hainault, northeast London, on Tuesday.

The man charged has been named as Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a 36-year-old dual Spanish-Brazilian national from Newham, east London.

He has also been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary and possession of a bladed article.

Monzo will appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

The families of all those affected by the incident have been informed.

Knife attacker injures at least three in metro in Lyon, France

A 27-year-old Moroccan man attacked people with a knife in the metro in the French city of Lyon on Sunday, injuring at least three, authorities said.

The attacker, who lives in France illegally, suffers from serious mental health issues and had been hospitalised in psychiatric wards on several occasions, local prefect Fabienne Buccio told reporters.

He made no religious or political claim during the attack, the prefect said.

None of the victims' lives was in danger, Buccio said, adding that one of those injured was 17 years old.

Bournemouth beach killing: Man, 20, arrested after personal trainer stabbed to death

A 20-year-old man from London has been arrested after a woman was stabbed to death on a beach in Bournemouth.

Police launched a murder investigation after Amie Gray, 34, a personal trainer and women's head coach at Dorset Futsal Club, was killed on Friday night.

Another woman, 38, and also from Poole, suffered serious injuries and is still being treated in hospital.

Officers were called to reports that two women had been stabbed on Durley Chine Beach at around 11.45pm on Friday.

After a manhunt, Dorset Police worked with colleagues in London to arrest the 20-year-old man, from the Croydon area, on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Detective Superintendent Richard Dixey, of the force's major crime investigation team, said: "The investigation has progressed at speed over recent days, which has now led to an arrest being made in London.

"Officers from Dorset Police intelligence and firearms teams worked together with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police to carry out the arrest.

Muhammad Hassam Ali, known as Ali, died in hospital hours after he was attacked in Victoria Square, Birmingham, on 20 January.

Two 15-year-old boys, who cannot be named because of their age, have been on trial for 17-year-old Ali's murder and for possession of a knife at Coventry Crown Court.

On Friday, a jury found one of them guilty of murder and possessing a knife while the other was convicted of manslaughter and possessing a knife.

The court heard Ali and a friend got hot chocolate at a coffee shop before heading to the square where they "simply sat down chatting and using their phones".

They were then approached by the two youths who had followed them from Grand Central Shopping Centre.

They asked Ali and his friend if they knew who had “jumped a mate” of theirs a week before and where they came from.

The killer alleged Ali and his friend told them to go away before Ali allegedly told them he didn't know what he was talking about and said a phrase involving an expletive.

The court heard one of the youths then pulled out a large knife and stabbed Ali in the chest before fleeing the scene.

The boy who had the knife told the jury he only pulled it out to scare Ali and his friend and that he did not intend to harm or kill anyone.

He said he carried a knife for protection as he had been attacked several times before and that he felt "regretful and upset" when he learned of Ali’s death.
