Bro your a very good poster but i feel your being a bit harsh. None of us have been put in his situation and wont know how to react unless it actually happens to us. His brain must have been going at 100mph. Maybe he had to meet someone in Eng or was told to go their by the mafia.
Also maybe he couldnt tell the ICC because they are part of it;just a theory.
What he has to do though is tell the press everything and whatever it may be that has caused all of this comotion.
If its to do with players i hope they are exposed InshAllah to get rid of the cancer within our team.
Eagle eye. From the quoted statement, I dont really see how you deduced his "lack of perfomance" could be a reason for his team mates putting him down. Maybe its the other way around. Maybe he rattled a few cages the way he played and there is no question about it there is a pressure group within the team that like their friends to stay in the team. Kamran happens to be a popular character within that clique. Maybe his brother Umar and the other remaining members of the Oath Brigade were not taking kindly to Haider because they felt he threatened their best mate's place in the team.
That statement can be twisted and turned any which way you like. I am just hopeful someone, Haider himself, media, PCB, Jack Sparrow, whoever, comes out with a statement soon to put all this speculation and conjecture to rest.
If there is not solid ground for his actions either he is severely unhinged or a celebrity status seeker.
If not, then we have bigger problems to worry about than bickering and fighting like children on internet.
subhanallah i never knew he had two daughters, allah make it easy for himMan this guy is a father of two little girls, I wish he was with his family instead of fighting battles in the UK. For how long is he gonna stay there, what's his plan? I'm dying to hear answer to these questions.
Come on Stewie, I never deduced his lack of performance from the quote!!
I conclusion from the quote was that he is a weak minded selfish ****. Rather than fight it out like a man in a tough environment he upped and carried out a selfish act for personal monetary gain that has tremendous negative impact for rest of Pakistan cricket.
In the days of Wasim and Waqar... it was a fracturous and very edgy environment but you did not find people walking out and crying like babies....
Rashid Latif exposed match fixing... has he run away to the moon? Nope he still lives in Pakistan!
subhanallah i never knew he had two daughters, allah make it easy for him
Why do you want answers to question to even which you don't have the answers?
Is it too much to wait till the man himself comes out when he's ready and reveals the truth from his own mouth?
For all we know, the guy Zulqarnain stayed in touch with during the day is a close associate of his and who happens to be on the GEO news payroll.
For all we know, he was promised security in the UK and didn't feel safe enough the UAE.
All I see here are people saying how Zulqarnain's filing for asylum in the UK and other such stupidity. Without any shred of proof. I mean, seriously, this is just disgusting.
Close associate?
Talk about clutching at straws.
I am all for waiting until Zulqarnain Haider provides us with valid/factual reasoning behind his decision-making. However, I have just raised questions/points in order to illustrate the absurdity of this entire situation and the fact he felt the entire world was against him and he even ran around Dubai without proper security. If someone wanted to kill him - he wouldn't have even made it to the airport.
Brother you could well be right but it could also be that him and his family are well off in pakistan and have no reason to come to this country and this is all genuineGive it a few weeks, he'll call his wife and kids over. Once he's done with that, he'll look for work in the local takeaway, raising money to apply for the rest of his family to join him. Lo! There go the immigration secrets of most 'British' Pakistanis.
Oh yeah, he should really tough it out and be a MAN about it.
Did Waqar have 2 daughters during that time? Did Rashid? Were you in the dressing room during that time? I mean, how do you deduce Zulqarnain's lack of character and strength given absolutely no information what so ever about what has been happening in the background, in the dressing room, and whoever threatened him? OR Why Zulqarnain decided to leave all of a sudden?
If I speculate, it's clutching at straws, and when you do the same on an even more absurd level, you are "raising questions and points".
LOL.
Waah, maan gaye saab.
Did he not update the Geo representative? Yes he did.
Please explain to me how that was a logical decision. I will love to hear your explanation on that fact. Even if that man was a close associate [having trouble believing that] surely Haider knew not to tell anyone about his whereabouts?
Wasn't he scared his cell phone could be traced by those threatening him?
See how idiotic he was throughout this?
So many poor decisions along the way. He could have got himself killed.
If he was afraid of the PCB officials - why did he go and ask for his passport from them? Surely, if you are scared of an individual and are "fleeing" you don't go up to them and expect to get your passport [which he did].
He certainly did get scared from the looks of things. Which is why I am bemused that he didn't contact the appropriate authorities.
In fact, I have forgot the third option he had. The option of contacting the local police in Dubai and getting them to sort things out [provide extra security for him]. Fleeing left him wide open to being put into a seriously troubling situation with those that wanted to supposedly kill him.
You might still disagree with me and feel Zoni might have felt like the entire world was out to get him. You could say he didn't want to trust anybody because perhaps someone quite close to him turned out to be the evil one [all theory of course]. My questions then are - Why do you give updates on your FB? Why do you give updates to Geo representatives about your plans?
Was that not childish? If I am running away - I don't go and basically let the entire world know exactly where I am located and even what flight I am taking.
So here is another quote from cricinfo...
"Raza Haider, Zulqarnain's brother, said the wicketkeeper had reportedly received threats. "I spoke to Zulqarnain after the fourth ODI and he told me he had received some kind of threats after that game, but he gave no details," Raza said."
It seems like his family had no prior knowledge of his impending disappearance. If the "threats" were so severe and grave.... would he not told his brother about it so his daughters and rest of family could have heads up about upping their security... OR Is he a coward and sought to get himself safe even over the safety of his own daughters first!
If it looks like a rat, smells like a rat, sounds like a rat, and acts like a rat.... ITS A RAT!!

For all you know, the PCB management sent him off with due security and knowledge of the real motives behind this. Remember how he was sent back to Pakistan after his heroics against England? What did the media release by the PCB management entail then, do you mind refreshing my memory? Was it not an injury that prevented him from being in the playing XI? And how serious was Zulqarnain's injury? A hairline fracture in his pinky, of all places.
Now, see how idiotic your assumptions sound "in my ear"?
Brother you could well be right but it could also be that him and his family are well off in pakistan and have no reason to come to this country and this is all genuine
Should I trust your assumptions or the PCB statement that was released? Hmmm.
The PCB statement explicitly states that Zulqarnain Haider did not explain the reasoning behind his request for his own passport. He just asked for it and they gave it to him expecting nothing wrong to have occurred.
He's a wicketkeeper. Hairline fracture on one's pinky would be quite a concern don't you think or do keepers keep with their feet now?
Every keeper in the world on any level of cricket plays with hairline fractures. Zulqarnain would not have been the first keeper in the history of time or cricket to have played through a niggle like that. When he himself felt comfortable with it.
And, you trust the PCB?)
Yuvraj Singh - missed Champions Trophy 2009/2010
Suresh Raina - missed Windies tour in 2009
Younus Khan - missed chunk of Champions trophy 2009/2010
Jacob Oram - missed Windies tour in 2008
Nick Knight - missed Natwest series in 2000
I am wondering though. Not directly related to Zoni but a general wondering..
If this 'betting mafia' was so strong, wouldn't they focus more on the three stooges who recently got back from England? Think about it. With each passing day, the trio gets more desperate to get back into cricket as their hopes get dashed that they'll get out of the case safe. ICC ain't cooperating, PCB ain't cooperating. Not to mention, fighting cases in other countries wastes your money like tapwater. Wouldn't those three be under more pressure to go to the police (they are already under investigation), spill the beans, and get some relief? And so, shouldn't they be dead by now?
Aren't they more of a threat to the 'betting mafia' than a player who isn't even a regular in the side? How come those three are not only free to go anywhere they want without any worry, but are seen regularly in restaurants, stadiums and many, many TV stations nowadays?
I trust them more then someone sitting miles away from the situation.
Are you serious about your comments concerning Zoni's injury? Every keeper plays through hairline fractures on their hands?! Since when?!
I have seen players miss entire series/tournaments because of such injuries. Here is a list of individuals who missed hefty amount of time due to hairline fracture on their fingers.
This list is never-ending, but I stopped there.
If normal players can't play entire series or chunks of them because of hairline fractures on their hands how could Zoni as a keeper?
Plus, Zoni explicitly stated that he could have played with his "broken hand" if he wanted to. That does not mean the doctor could have allowed him to play. Many players want to play especially young ones regardless of how badly they are injured.

Well he needed his passport to leave the country and if reports are to be believed then he came up with a cover story for needing it

Easy choice really - I would even trust a drunk in the street before I trust the crooks that are the PCB
I havnt read most of the posts on this matter nor many articles so I might be missing a lot of information BUT why is the lad getting criticised?
Yes he could have handled the situation better BUT if he felt he was in danger then it is understandable that his reaction and action would be chaotic as a result - let's hear what the lad has to say on the matter in the coming days before castigating him
I am glad he is in the UK and hopefully he is safe - far better to be here than with the PCB or even back in Pakistan
many are worried that he might make damaging revelations that would see Pak cricket banned. So human nature is to discredit him beforehand by claiming that he's an attention seeker/mentally unstable/a traitor and so on
Pak cricket is run by a buffoon who single-handedly doing a great job of trying to get Pak banned
I dont see any reason not to belive Zulqarnain - this would be the most absurd stunt to pull, he must be scared and right now I think Pak fan should be supporting him
Far too many holes in the story mate. He's pulled a stunt IMO
That is the most irrelevant and useless stat I have ever seen in my e-life.
Comparing a vague list of unknown stress fractures to a specific one. Where the player himself stated that it was minor enough to not keep him out of the line-up, is not only obnoxious, but defines the term "clutching at straws".
Jammed fingers, hairline fractures in fingers and thumbs even, nerve damage to fingers are injuries that every keeper at one time or the other and some over the course of their entire careers play on with. Please, for the sake of our co-existence on this message board, do not attempt something so lame again.
Secondly, from what I have seen of the PCB, specially the management, I would much rather put my trust on the usefulness of an ashtray on a bike. If you, after all the world has witnessed, still put your faith and trust in PCB, we have nothing to more to discuss and I advise you to seek immediate counselling.
May be Zulqarnain has a long term planning where his goal is to get UK nationality thru the asylum and play for England and earn in pounds than Pak Rs ?

lol a bit too much dude. No ones that stupid, wouldn't make it into the England side anyways. He could play county cricket for the rest of his life though.
I just fail to see why he would need to pull a stunt?
btw what are these holes? (I havnt followed the story in depth so might have missed something)
lol .. it was only a joke man ... I know we all have to wait and hold on to speculations till the dust settles down.
Something just doesnt add for me. Firstly he ran to England. He could have strolled into the ICC offices and had his say.
He was in contact with a geo news reported saying hes on his way to England. How hard is it to find flight details from Heathrow to Dubai. If you were really in fear for your life you would flee with as little publicity as possible. Not announce where you are and where your going to the media while your family are in the dark!
Also he says he was threatened because he didnt fix the match. Therefore somebody must have approached him to fix the match before it occured. Why was this not reported to the ICC immediately?? He instead chose to play the match after being approached by a bookie - breach of the ICC regulations
Finally his role in hitting the winning runs was purely coincidence. He played crap all other matches.
Just my thoughts. I sincerley hope that whatever the outcome he and his family remain safe inshallah
These are just my thoughts
I disagree.
I have listed past examples of players who were threatened by bookies. Both of those players reported the suspicious activity to the appropriate authority [ACSU] and let them deal with it.
Neither of those two [Shane Watson/Shakib] died. Zulqarnain Haider had no reason to not trust the ACSU officials and he hasn't provided any substantial claim in his interview that would suggest the ACSU officials were in on any threat. Thus, I think he made a huge gaffe by just lying and running.
However, putting aside all of those criticisms I will still applaud the man and will be behind him if his story is the complete and honest truth. It takes a man of courage to risk his career and life for the sake of remaining honest and no one can take that away from him.
Again I ask when was Shane Watson issue with death threats? or even Shakib?
No rational person would think of taking such panic-like decisions unless there was a valid reason for them to panic. Lets hear what it is with sympathetic ears. He didnt have any cash stashed under his mattress!
Some of the criticism of Zoni here is quite harsh. I think this is partially due to the proximity this event has to the Spot-fixing trio scandal.
Unlike the accused Amir, Asif and Salman Butt, where it is clear what they had to gain from their alleged actions; what exactly does Zoni have to gain in this case?
Hes essentially quit his paid job, jeopardised his professional integrity and future, all for what gain?? A British passport? Thats frankly absurd when you dwell on the facts for more than 60 seconds.

Oops - missed your previous post amidst the new posts.
Yes, you are correct neither Watson or Shakib received explicit death threats. Honest mistake on my part.
However, I think it's fair to assume that those bookies would have gone a whole lot further if the ACSU hadn't been contacted and intervened.
Plus, I think it's futile to assume that Zoni was not first contacted nicely by these bookies. Bookies don't just walk up to player and give him a death threat right off the bat otherwise no one would deal with them.
It's Zoni's fault for not contacting the ACSU officials after the first contact with these people. The moment they asked him to fix the match - he should be calling the ACSU officials. He didn't and the situation escalated to the point where he won the match and the bookies went off on him.
Why do I have a feeling he accepted the deal with the bookies and then backtracked later on? Anyway, that is probably wrong of me and I don't want to tar him without just reasoning.
That is a bit far fetched - I agree there is something not quite right, if he was approached by a bookie then like you say he should have reported (though how do we know he didnt? have the ACSU said otherwise?) and he was silly not to
Still the bigger issue here is that he claims he has been threatened for refusing to fix matches - he needs our support at this time because if he is telling the truth then he is one brave lad, cant be easy being him right now
Whats latest?
can someone sum up for ignorants?
Read the thread and Cricinfo's piece on the situation.
I would sum it up, but I didn't watch a chunk of his interview.
thx.
I read that cricinfo (nothing much after that FB message)
Has he spilled some beans?
maybe he took the money and didnt keep his promise ?
After playing a match winning knock...why would he pull /or gain from this stunt except some publicity which he would have got anyway.Far too many holes in the story mate. He's pulled a stunt IMO
Is the SAffers leave some spot empty in teamNow the question is ...
If Zulqarnain is given Asylum by UK then almost the entire Pakistan team will follow the trail and eventually the England team will have 50% of players from the current Pakistan side.
I guess he knew that he has NO future with Pakistan team after Kamran Akmal's come back, so better off get out of Pakistan and live happily in UK.
