Well I've just come back from an overseas break and have to say that travelling by air seems to bring out the worst in people.

What do you hate about air travel and what winds you up when you are travelling by air?

People carrying cold and flu and coughing and sneezing. You can't even change seats most of the times and you are pretty much stuck.

I find it hard to sleep on a plane and I hate the toilets. I fly in economy and the toilets are tiny and people Q up outside. I tend not to eat much before flying and make sure that I use the toilets at home/ hotel or airport.

I think people are generally already frustrated by the time they get to the airplane because of the whole process in the airport like the baggage check, security, immigration etc.

It's hard to sleep.

I try to fly at night so your body is naturally ready for sleep. Also use eye masks and ear buds with soft pillows. Eat before flying and try to get the window seat.

If you have the misfortune of having to sit next to a smelly uncle for the next 12 hours.

Toilets. They are small.Plus i hate using common toilets.

Even though i now travel atleast premium economy when travelling for more than 3-4hrs,sleeping isnt fun.

Flying at night makes my toilet issue worse lol. Naturally need to excrete at around 6, 7 AM. I rather not sleep then have toilet issues :) I prefer to fly around 2PM :)

When the person who sits next to you gets air sick and vommits in her blanket bag and refuses to go to the toilet even when the airhost and 5 other people are telling her, Thankfully i was given another seat.

I have some back issues so find it quite challenging to just sit there in the same spot for longer durations.

Don't hate much other than that.

My experiences have been good.

I don't like sleeping on a plane though. Uncomfortable. :))

The sardine tins that go by the name of seats

and the constant line for the toilets.

The food taste bad.

Loud people.

People that can't control their kids, this more common when I'm travelling to Pakistan through the Mideast.

Flying on a gulf airline with our eastern neighbors, the strong smell of spices makes me nauseous.

Middle seats. These are the worsts, never buy a middle seat. I once had a middle seat for 18 hr flight, I think I was gonna pass out at the end cause I was cramped up and sleep deprived.

If you have the money, fly business class on long haul flights cause economy class is over congested.

my dad has a bad back so he cannot travel economy so we travel emirates business and it is a wonderful experience and super comfortable

no doubt it is very heavy on the pocket lol but can't compromise on health

Landing...... It's terrible. But only for domestic flights.... It seems the plane might overturn while landing.... talking about indian airlines

I dont mind flying airplanes that much

Well my dislikes are based on the situation:
- waiting in long queues
- immigration
- unfriendly passengers
- turbulence
- watching muslims drink alcohol
- when the choice of food I want has finished

Just got back from a short trip to Washington so this thread is timely. My plane landed on time but could not get to the gate due to no crew being able to work on ground because of a lightning threat. Had to stay in the plane for 45 mins after landing and it was the worst experience...unnecessary delays are probably the worst. Also hate the boarding process, every airline seems to do it differently.

Another thing that ticks me off is how desperate the passengers are to hog over head luggage space...Why in hell do some travelers have such large carry-on's? The flights to the Middle East are the worst where each passenger carries on a minimum of 2 to 3 bags and there is no concept of putting your personal bag pack or purse under the front seat.

Turbulence!! It freaks me out and kills my inner soul. Hate air travel purely because of turbulence

Long transit
Loud passengers
And I get this excruciating pain in my ear/head cos sometimes when we are landing , imagine a kidney stone kind of severe pain , but in your head . The first time I got it , few years back I thought I had something serious .

Here's a few from personal experience:

Passengers shouting over at friends across the plane, some idiots refusing to sit down. Some people refusing to wear seat belts even when the signs come up, drunken fools who shouldn't even be allowed on the plane.

Oh please dont remind me.There was this family of 8-9 people and as soon as the seat belt sign went off they started chatting like it was a park. They made a circle in the plane with people sitting on the outside handle of the aisle seat.It was irritating and i was glad that they journey ended.

I'm thinking about visiting Pakistan in a couple years, what airline would you guys recommend? I usually fly gulf based airlines like emirates and Qatar but the planes smell like spices, do a lot of Indians travel on Turkish airlines? If not, I might fly Turkish.

Traveling in a couple of years and you're already planning for it? That's impressive!

Dunno why people are complaining about spices. Spicy smell is always better than terrible smell of chicken / fish / other meats, which is quite common is most airlines I fly.

You can't avoid the Indians whichever airline you fly, so get used to it!

Back on main topic, surely being jet lagged has got to be the biggest problem with long haul flights? Surprised no one's mentioned it.

People here like to plan ahead that might be foreign to you cause you fresh lol. The smell actually is really strong, it's really uncomfortable and nauseous if you're not used to the odor. No offense to anybody here, but it really is an issue with the people I've spoken to and have experienced it myself last time I travelled.

I always fly business or first class and my experiences have never been anything short of spectacular. Emirates offers the best business class there is even though Qatar is not far behind. Frankly, even PIA has a nice business class environment. I dish travel economy once recently because that was the only ticket available and honestly I don't understand that the fuss is all about. As long as you have leg room, you should be OK.

I travelled on Turkish Airlines and found it amazing. There were no Indians but yet again I was flying to Istanbul.

What is the difference between first and business (asides from the isolated seat in first)

have done business multiple times but i always stop from coughing up the extra dough for first

It's different for everyone airline, I think. If you look at PIA, they never had First Class, not Economy, Business and Business plus. The differences in major airlines like the Emirates are HUGE. I've only travelled Emirates First Class once because it is unbelievably expensive, but it was lavish as hell. You have your own compartment, a HUGE tv, your chair turns into a bed, you can order anything you want, you can even shower. It's the epitome of luxury.

Only 1st class in emirates kind of service makes sense.Else not.You get yourself a whole cubicle kind of thing.

Turkish Airlines are reasonable, no qualms with them. But I think for such a busy international airport, which Istanbul is, it's poorly set up and without modern facilities. I happened to be travelling roughly around the time of Hajj and so the airport was loaded with Pilgrims. Unfortunately for them it seemed like the airport wasn't able to cope with the capacity.

Most of the flights we'll be on won't be for more than 8/10 hours. I'll use Heathrow to Lahore as an example, the average direct flight is about 7 hours there and 8 hours back. So 15 hours total. If you get economy you'll pay around 450-500 if you book in advance and depending on the time of year. The same flight but in business class will be around 1200. So for just 15 hours to pay an extra £700 seems not just ridiculous to me, but unjustifiable.

I can live with the noisey kids. I mean who wants their children to be loud and annoying? But kids are kids and you can expect that.

I can live with the quality of the food as well. I mean they have to package the food and get it on the plane to heat, they can't exactly make you fresh Biryani on a plan can they?

I can live with the lack of sleep on flights as well. In fact you generally have a good variety of entertainment and even if you don't like their offering, you can always use yoru tablet/laptop.

I can live with the jetlag as well, provided you plan properly, you can recover within 48 hours easily. I travelled to Canada 3 summers ago and after a 12 hour flight, I was able to go to work the next morning no problems.

I can live with the delays and the bad organisation at airports. I mean these are very busy places trying to serve so many passengers, they don't want delays or bad organisation but unfortunately sometimes it's going to happen.

I can live with loud people as well. People chatting across aisles is going to happen that's why listening to music or having ear plugs is a bonus.

I can live with the in flight temperature, even if it's too hot or cold they give you blankets and you can always get up and go near the back/front for cooler air.

I can live with the constant getting up and out of your seat for people needing the toilet.

But what I can't live with and what absolutely infuriates me is the the people who whine about all of these things mentioned above.
