What's new

Third Test between India (603/9d) and Australia (451 & 204/6) ends in a draw, series equal at 1-1

I would have been 100% sure of Indian victory had they played Jayant on this pitch. With Ashwin not firing and opposition having player like Steve Smith in their ranks, I think Australia still have an outside chance to save this one.

The way Jaddu is bowling...maybe we don't need Ash at all.

Also didn't watch this game but was Ash really that bad?

Wasn't he getting drift which he wasn't in the first 2 tests?

I only saw him bowl in the third session of day one.

My worry for Ashwin is that he is not adjusting to the conditions quick enough. Pune and particularly Bangalore pitch have lots of cracks. That perfectly suits Lyon style of bowling who bowls a little flat and gives more over-spin. That allows to extract more variations from the cracks. Ashwin should have done the same but he didn't until the fourth innings of second test.

This pitch was different. Ashwin was bowling the same way as he did in the last innings. He was getting little drift and turn that was manageable. Among all the spinners in this series, Jayant puts maximum flight and side-spin on the ball which complements well with a good pitch like this one. Moreover, Maxwell was vulnerable at the start of his innings. He was playing everything on the backfoot. Ashwin didn't bowl full enough at that time. Jadeja did and got few of outside edges, bat-pads and lbw shouts. Maxwell eventually settled down and started to play fuller bowls on front foot or by coming down the track.

I didn't watch a single ball today so don't know if pitch has started to wear on but if it holds well for day 5, I don't see Ashwin being much effective tomorrow.

Ok cool thanks.

I too feel Ash hasn't been adjusting quickly enough these days.

Not sure about your comments on Jayant and sidespin.

Absolutely loving the series ! I love how the teams are playing with such passion that it actually makes viewers realize how important and significant test cricket is. Batting over 500 balls and scoring over 200 runs isn't easy and each ball becomes important - even neutral fans are taking interest on twitter. This is exactly what we need in test cricket.

Back to the game, I'm kind of losing patient with Rahane , he is purely in the team as a batsman - he does not bowl and lately his fielding has been hit and miss. He needs to step up. Loving Umesh Yadav and Jadeja proving his worth . Smith and Kohli are perfect competitors to go against each other.

Apparently pujaras innings today was the LONGEST in Indian cricket history!!!

Damn he even best Gavaskar

Yeah sure, just like they batted out the last Test scoring a grand total of 112 on the 4th/5th day.

Watch the world's #1 spin duo shatter them tomorrow.

Different wicket entirely..

Seems like the Indians see blood in the water .... should be a great day of Test Match Cricket !!!!! No way a T/20 match can match the set up at the end of the 4th day !!!!!

He probably won't even have to come out to bat.

Tons from Smith and Renshaw are very much confirmed for tomorrow. :don

Dude, the Surgeon General says that too much fantasizing is bad for your health... important to always stay at least in minimal touch with reality!

Yeah, my kind of TV binging with beah... no chance of India losing, possibility of India winning, bring it on!

Seeing Jaddu land those rockets on the rough, should be fun watching the Aussies sweat tomorrow whatever the outcome is.

I forsee a quick retreat into the safety and warmth of the underground for SD ... :)

T20 is far far(put as many as you like) behind Tests in this aspect.

if played sensibly definitely Australia can save the match , India is gonna come all out full of banter ....let's see how do the Aussie's handle the head. I'd say Indian Wins 70% , Draw 30 %

The Indians have their tails up in this Match now, and the Australian Coach has put doubt in their batmen's mind about how to negotiate Jadeja. Also, don't write off Ashwin .... yet. I am sure he will try to keep up with Jadeja. So all in all it will be a real " street fight " in Ranchi today ..... may the Best Team wins.

SO far Australia are playing really well. Nice defense. superb batting

Ishant has brought in now to release some pressure on the Aussies, they can now score some runs and reduce this deficit :bm

One decent partnership and game will be dead. These two are doing a fine job of killing overs.

lol... commies saying India dont know how to get SMith out. It's true, he scores tons of runs against us...

He is the main wicket today for sure, Smith knows it and you can see that he has put a big price on his wicket.

Australia still can collapse at any time, these 2 should remain focused and stay at the crease as long as possible without thinking about scoring much,as it is almost impossible for Australia to pull of a victory here.

I have to say that I am really impressed with Smith - he is at another level than anyone contemporary world when it comes to adjust his game fitting a situation or wicket.

Runs are very important.
They need to go in the lead so if they are all out, India will have to chase some runs. So runs from Australia will also save time for them.

Ishant Sharma. Sigh!

Ashwin hasnt bowled yet today . Does that reflect the team's confidence on him as a wicket taker?

May be unfit - he is in field so that he can bowl later. One lefti is batting, hence don't think any other reason not to bring him in 80 minutes.

Yeah,I know runs are important but what i meant was to avoid risky shots and play sensibly as only 1 wicket could trigger a serious collapse.

By the way, I have seen this Test almost entire AUS batting - Rahne impressed me more than Kohli as Captain. Might not be such expressive, but a very thinking Captain.

I am sure Ashwin would not have played this match if not for his efforts in that 4th innings! Don't know what's the problem (injury or form). He was never so ineffective in these conditions. India should have simply gone with additional spinner in place of Ishant for better support.

I am sure Renshaw deliberately picked the ball & asked Indians to go for a handle the ball appeal.

I may have to take my word back :)) Ishant has struck! Probably we expect too much from him. He got some crucial wickets even in Bangalore!

How come Smith even thought of leaving that?

This is India's game IMO.

And now Smith gone, also with him hopes of Australia.I said it one wicket will start a collapse.

What a cricketer Jadeja has become! From getting ridiculed, questioned his place, yeah just-bits-piece to fill up place..... Now a match winner! In future he may well settle to being called a "legend" :)

I have a feeling we'll be batting again.

80+ runs! Australia are not looking to attack neither they have players to do so (trying that they may lose wickets, and in the course if it means we have to score 50+ runs, we don't mind! We are not worried about innings victory, just a win is enough for all the intensity in this series and the way Australians have played) Indian win is 99.9% certain unless there is rain or bad-light (flood lights also don't work)

I just saw the movie "Kung Fu Hustle" and your comment made me think of Jaddu as the hero, who is ridiculed almost the entire movie and become a genius at the end...lol

Similar to Smith in many ways.

Can't help but feel that Ishant's theatrics has brought India two wickets here. Psyched out Renshaw and perhaps Smith was still thinking about that dismissal when he decided to pad one against Jadeja. A minor lapse in concentration and that's good enough for the Aussie skipper to walk back. Ishant really did his best to get into the batsmen's minds there

read the above in cricinfo... is it true? anyone watching live?

He did bowl a good over. Bouncer-Bouncer-Full Ball. Not sure about any theatrics.

Don't forget that Australia is technically only 3 down. :harby

Big boy Maxi yet to come in. No worries.

Unbelievable how from saving the match India are now the hot favs to win the match. Shows the characer of the team. Players who can perform in tough situations.
I believe, a 70-80 1st innings run lead for Aus and they would have won the match.

Don't care if we win or draw, but the way India has come back in this match after losing the toss is unbelievable.

good movie, not much dialogues so easy to understand!

10 out of 10, for the drs effort ..........................

Australia are doing really well. 46 overs left, traill by 44. I feel they can draw this game.

this is commentary or user comments?

Runs flowing now and the lead is being cut down pretty fast.. 14 runs off Ashwin. There dont seem to be any demons in the pitch as well. Just 21 runs deficit now and with just 40 overs to a draw seem the most likely result now.

We need them 7 down by Tea, looks tough now with these 2 playing out maidens :|

its bad strategy by them not atleast trying to score 2-3 an over

if they were doingthat they would have some lead by now

they can get a jaffa anytime so a lead would buy them time

Pujara,Jadeja,Rahul and Yadav have been the stars for India this series. Looks like this match is going for a draw.
