"This is a good group of young players who will gain a lot out of this experience" : Mickey Arthur

Sarfaraz Ahmed speaking after the first T20I:

"Again, the same problem; we didn't bat well up the order and lost too many wickets in the first six overs and we couldn't recover."

"We assessed the pitch and the new ball was swinging and bouncing at times and we couldn't keep wickets in hand."

"They bowled really well. We'll try our best to recover against the new ball in the next game."

"Our bowlers bowled really well in the first six overs specially Amir and Rumman. If we made 140-160, it would've been a good match."

Mickey Arthur at a press conference:

"Very frustrating. We tried to shake things up a bit and change roles and tried training in different ways to try and get the best out of our top-order but it just didn't happen."

"We've done all the training and spoke about committing to our decisions and taking the game on a little bit. We spoke about the transition from ODIs to T20Is but we didn't execute it well enough. We needed to assess the conditions better. We went out there looking to get 180 when 140 was probably going to be enough. But that's experience, we had a very inexperienced top-order today and that showed."

"You can't defend a total like that, they can have two good overs and break the back of the chase. For us as a young unit, setting a target is tougher than chasing but that's something we need to get used to."

"We're certainly not giving up hope on this group. This is a good group of young players who will gain a lot out of this experience. But we need to be smarter and assess better."

"After the first couple of wickets, we had a chance, but it wasn't to be."

"We've clearly defined roles for all the players, that's how far we've gone in our attention of details. But we need to assess conditions better. 140 was a good score today."

"I'm not sure this was a great wicket for T20s. It's not as bad as the scoreline suggested but it wasn't like the other pitches we've got in New Zealand. We thought it may assist the spinners a bit. Our batters said they just never felt like they were 'in' on this pitch."

How many times have we heard this quote from a coach?

I guess they're obliged to say that.

Sorry but excuses are running out with this young squad thing!

can't win with similar type of players. Need to change the batting line up and also the faces.

Glad I didn’t stay up and watch another pathetic batting display. Same excuses from Captain and Coach, yet I do not see any improvement. Clearly Pakistan team has one of the weakest mentally. Giving same excuses about swing and bounce is unacceptable. The team has been in New Zealand for nearly a month now and yet still unable to cope with conditions. Very poor indeed !

Agree with MA.... BACK this young team and they will get better with experiences of their mistakes.. These guys need the same motivation and inspiration they got after 1st loss to India in CT'17.. They looked out of confidence and finding new ways to get out.. I believe these players can play better than what they have shown today... all of them need runs and a win to get their confidence back... One suggestion to MA is open with Haris Sohail as he looks to be the only player in the team who can play the new ball in NZL in this team and drop Amin to no.4... babar was out of touch at no.3 but found some runs today coming in at no.5

Play the team of the 5th odi and now forget about results. Loser nation New Zealand will prepare bouncy wickets in the next T20 also to capitalize on the visitors' weaknesses and once their talentless neanderthals win who play on strategy and fielding, then they will prepare a T20 wicket in the third.

The bowl kept swinging till the 20th over when Munro was bowling, our bowlers did'nt bowl that well esp. Amir and Hasan. Amir still not swinging the bowl and bowling same cross seam line. Pakistan have to work on picking singles and stopping kiwis from getting the same. Too many dot balls. Harris was again pathetic the way he got out and Umar Amin is worse than a club fielder. We just need to play fearlessly and our brand of cricket. Yamin, Nawaz, Fahim and Shadab together are our only hope. Please give them experience rather than playing these automatic selections.

Thank God I didnt bother watching this series

Mickey Arthur is such a disaster.

He has the good fortune of having PSL during his era due to which many talented players have been fast tracked. Only God Knows how worse would we have been otherwise. (Difficult to get worse than a 5-0 though)

Kick out ALL seniors. Blood in YOUNG. That way MA can manipulate them to play accordingly to his desires.

This is the first time they played a truly young squad. Ppl will talk about nawaz and amin being around for a while but, they've played a handful of games.

For Mickey Arthrur - I give him great credit for the CT win - he has fallen in to a classic trap that coaches do with Pakistan. They start their stint not wanting to rock the boat and give seniors and tried tested failures/favorites chances to turn around performances. The first year is usually spent losing mostly despite these so called experienced players.
By the time the coach realizes/is allowed to select a truly young squad, he is already under pressure from previous defeats and the public/management loses the appetite for more defeats (some times necessary with a new squad) and the coach gets sacked.
Inzi/Arthur/PCB must understand that now is the time to stand firm, otherwise whatever precious gains have been made will be lost again. coach will get sacked, captain will get sacked, we will end up with interim senior captain, who will win a few series against Zim/SL only to be ruthlessly gutted when we play a serious team.

I think Mickey said all the right things. Need to give him and the team all of this year.

Keep playing a young team and bring in young players. Look at England in 2015, out of the world cup from the group stage. They still continued with that team and brought in some quality players. There now a formidable ODI team. Pakistan need to continue bringing in young players.
