"This is a good group of young players who will gain a lot out of this experience" : Mickey Arthur
Sarfaraz Ahmed speaking after the first T20I:
"Again, the same problem; we didn't bat well up the order and lost too many wickets in the first six overs and we couldn't recover."
"We assessed the pitch and the new ball was swinging and bouncing at times and we couldn't keep wickets in hand."
"They bowled really well. We'll try our best to recover against the new ball in the next game."
"Our bowlers bowled really well in the first six overs specially Amir and Rumman. If we made 140-160, it would've been a good match."
Mickey Arthur at a press conference:
"Very frustrating. We tried to shake things up a bit and change roles and tried training in different ways to try and get the best out of our top-order but it just didn't happen."
"We've done all the training and spoke about committing to our decisions and taking the game on a little bit. We spoke about the transition from ODIs to T20Is but we didn't execute it well enough. We needed to assess the conditions better. We went out there looking to get 180 when 140 was probably going to be enough. But that's experience, we had a very inexperienced top-order today and that showed."
"You can't defend a total like that, they can have two good overs and break the back of the chase. For us as a young unit, setting a target is tougher than chasing but that's something we need to get used to."
"We're certainly not giving up hope on this group. This is a good group of young players who will gain a lot out of this experience. But we need to be smarter and assess better."
"After the first couple of wickets, we had a chance, but it wasn't to be."
"We've clearly defined roles for all the players, that's how far we've gone in our attention of details. But we need to assess conditions better. 140 was a good score today."
"I'm not sure this was a great wicket for T20s. It's not as bad as the scoreline suggested but it wasn't like the other pitches we've got in New Zealand. We thought it may assist the spinners a bit. Our batters said they just never felt like they were 'in' on this pitch."
