Harry Kane heads home against Shakhtar Donetsk

Harry Kane scored four goals as Tottenham Hotspur beat Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 in their final pre-season friendly before the start of the Premier League.

Kane's future at Spurs remains the subject of intense scrutiny with a year left on his contract and Bayern Munich stepping up their interest in him.

But he was given the captain's armband against the Ukrainian champions.

And the 30-year-old put on a typically clinical display to remind Spurs what they will be missing should he leave.

The match was new boss Ange Postecoglou's first game in charge in front of his own supporters at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Spurs' two previous friendlies having taken place during a tour of Asia.

And it will have left the Australian keener than ever to retain the services of Kane, who produced a virtuoso performance in what Spurs fans will hope was not a farewell with a flourish.

The striker has featured in all three Spurs friendlies this summer and played more than 80 minutes on Sunday, coming off just after his fourth goal and prompting loud 'we want you to stay' chants from supporters.

He opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a foul on James Maddison who - after Shakhtar levelled - set up Kane's second with a pinpoint cross that the England skipper headed in from close range.

The link-up between the international team-mates promises much, should Kane stay, but his hat-trick strike came from a more familiar source as he tucked away Dejan Kulusevski's defence-splitting ball.

Tottenham have completed deals for Netherlands Under-21 defender Micky van de Ven and Argentina U20 forward Alejo Veliz.

Spurs signed Van de Ven, 22, from Wolfsburg for an initial 40m euros (£34m) which could rise to a reported 50m euros (£43m) with add-ons.

Veliz, 19, has joined the London club from Rosario Central for a reported £13m fee subject to a work permit.

Both players have signed six-year contracts at Tottenham.

They are Tottenham's fourth and fifth summer signings respectively following the arrivals of England midfielder James Maddison, Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and Israel winger Manor Solomon.

Van de Ven captained Netherlands Under-21s in this summer's European Championship and could be named in the Spurs squad for Tuesday's game at Barcelona (19:00 BST), their final pre-season friendly.

He played 33 Bundesliga games last season, having joined Wolfsburg from Dutch side Volendam for £3m in 2021.

Predominantly a left-sided centre-back, he made six of his 36 appearances in all competitions last season at left-back.

Veliz joined Rosario Central in 2019 and made his first-team debut in July 2021.

He has made a total of 62 appearances for the Argentine Primera Division side in all competitions where he scored 19 goals.

Veliz has won nine caps for Argentina at U20 level and found the net on three occasions having featured in both the Under-20 World Cup and the South American Under-20 Championship in 2023.

Spurs travel to Brentford for their opening Premier League game of the season on Sunday.

Very impressive. Pity they lost Kane, maybe it’s a good thing both for the club and him. The midfield is very strong.

Longterm kane leaving them is good, now they can play like a team rather than individuals

Spurs send out strong signal
When Postecoglou was appointed by Tottenham, it was with the express desire to move away from the dull fare dished up by Nuno Espirito Santo, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte during a loveless period between Spurs fans and their managers.

And if his first two games are any measure, Spurs will be entertaining to watch come what may this season because this was the perfect illustration of the positive manner in which he wants his teams to play and was the hallmark of his work at Celtic.

It can be a high-risk strategy and will give the opposition chances, as even an off-colour United proved, but such was the quality, energy and sheer attacking intent shown by Spurs that they eventually overpowered Erik ten Hag's side and revelled in a prolonged standing ovation after the final whistle.

Yves Bissouma was outstanding in midfield, looking a player re-born after a first season of struggle following his move from Brighton, while James Maddison strode through the game with a real joy in his play and looked perfectly at home.

No one in their right mind would suggest for one second that a player of Kane's world class standing will not be missed, but Spurs fans can at least take real optimism from the opening salvos delivered by Postecoglou's new-look side.

Out in the first round of League Cup. :ROFLMAO:

Regardless of who the manager is, Tottenham just don't win trophies.

Tottenham have signed forward Brennan Johnson on a six-year deal from Nottingham Forest for a fee in excess of £45m.

The 22-year-old Wales international becomes Spurs' ninth summer signing and joins on a deal until 2029.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou says the club will give forward Richarlison the support he needs.

Brazil's Richarlison was pictured in tears after being substituted during his country's 5-1 win over Bolivia during the international break.

Afterwards, the 26-year-old said he would "seek psychological help" on his return to England.

"Whatever Richy needs, we will help him get to the space he wants to get to," said Postecoglou.

"He put it out there because he was quite emotional after a game and we will give him support he needs, but we do that for all players and most professional clubs do."

Got out of jail today with late goals.

Looked like they were going to suffer a shock defeat to Sheffield United.

Great start to the season.

A bit overhyped so far, but regardless big Ange got them playing some good football. Got a great young midfield in Sarr, Bissouma and Maddison. If they ever sort out that horrible defence and get a striker in, they'll be a proper team.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy says it was 'mistake' to appoint 'trophy managers'.

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy says the club made "mistakes" in appointing "trophy managers" Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The pair had both previously won the Premier League as managers but were each sacked by Spurs after less than 18 months following disappointing results.

But Spurs are performing well under new boss Ange Postecoglou and sit second in the Premier League.

"We've got our Tottenham back," Levy said at a Spurs' fan forum.

Levy said he felt pressure to "change strategy" after sacking Mauricio Pochettino, the now Chelsea boss who led Tottenham to their first Champions League final in 2019, where they lost to Liverpool in Madrid.

"I want to win just as much as everybody else," Levy said.

"The frustration from not winning and the pressure from maybe some players and a large element of the fan base that we need to win, we need to spend money, we need to have a big manager, a big name. And it affected me.

"The strategy was to bring in a trophy manager and we did it twice. You have to learn from the mistakes."

Spurs' patience rewarded by slice of fortune

Spurs knew they were under pressure to to find a winner against a side who have joined them as one of the early Premier League pacesetters.

It is to their credit that there was no sense of panic in their approach even as the seconds ticked away and Liverpool's red wall of defensive defiance kept them at bay, helped by keeper Alisson proving such a relentless barrier.

Spurs showed their new-found belief throughout the game and, despite some groans when Dejan Kulusevski played the ball back to Porro at the end of six minutes of stoppage time, their patience was rewarded with a large slice of good fortune as Matip's attempted clearance deflection carried such power that even Alisson was rendered powerless.

It was a climax which sparked wild scenes around Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where the atmosphere has been transformed since Postecoglou's arrival.

Maddison was once again pulling the strings, playing a key part in Son's opener, while the intensity and determination is bringing roars of approval from Spurs fans who have suffered under the stodgy styles of previous bosses Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

This may only be a pretty fortunate late victory against nine men, but a three points swing over this increasingly formidable Liverpool team will send confidence soaring even higher at Spurs.

I love Ange. Genuinely intelligent, level headed and charismatic unlike some of the much-vaunted fraudulent football managers out there. Hope he stays around in English football for a long time.

James Maddison has withdrawn from the England squad for November's Euro 2024 qualifiers with an ankle injury.

The 26-year-old midfielder sustained the injury in Tottenham's chaotic 4-1 defeat by Chelsea in the Premier League on Monday.

England play Malta at Wembley on Friday, 17 November before travelling to North Macedonia three days later.

Tottenham said Maddison would "remain at Hotspur Way for rehabilitation with the club's medical staff".

The club did not say how long they expect the playmaker to be sidelined for.

Maddison has scored three goals and made five assists in 11 Premier League games for Spurs since joining for £40m from Leicester City in June.

He has made five appearances for England and was an unused substitute in the 3-1 victory over Italy in October which secured Euro 2024 qualification for Gareth Southgate's side with two games to spare.

Tottenham, who are second in the Premier League, travel to Wolves on Saturday (12:30 GMT).

Tottenham make Jean-Clair Todibo top transfer target as Manchester United face Sir Jim Ratcliffe dilemma

Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo is emerging as Tottenham's top January transfer window target, talkSPORT understands.

Spurs have held tentative early talks with Nice after manager Angek Postecoglou said signing a specialised centre-back was his main priority.

Todibo rejected interest from Manchester United in the summer after claiming he was saving himself for the right project.

Man United remain keen but are unlikely to spend big in the upcoming transfer window.

They also face the issue of prospective minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe owning Nice.

Bad news for Tottenham. Cristian Romero will be out for 4-5 weeks due to hamstring injury.

“Romero had a scan and he's got a hamstring strain. We're looking at four to five weeks with him”, Postecoglou confirms.

Spurs star commits

Tottenham midfielder Pape Sarr is poised to extend his contract with the club until 2030.

The 21-year-old Senegal international has made 33 appearances for Spurs in all competitions since signing from French club Metz in 2021.

He remained at Metz for a season on loan following his transfer to Tottenham, but has since established himself as one of Ange Postecoglou's key men.

He has excelled this term, starting 16 of Tottenham's 20 top-flight league games to date and managing two goals and two assists - including a maiden strike in a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in August.

Timo Werner: Tottenham close to signing RB Leipzig forward on loan until end of season

Tottenham are close to signing RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner on loan until the end of the season, according to Sky Germany.

Sky Sports News reported earlier this week that the former Chelsea player has been offered to Manchester United in the January transfer window but he now looks set to return to London this month.

Spurs, who are not commenting on the story, are likely to cover the 27-year-old's full salary until the end of the current campaign.

Ange Postecoglou's side will be without club captain Heung-Min Son for at least a month due to his participation in the Asia Cup and there are fears Alejo Veliz has suffered a long-term knee injury.

Werner has featured just eight times for Leipzig in the Bundesliga this season, scoring two goals. His current contract runs until the summer of 2026.

Leipzig issued a statement on their official social media channels on Saturday confirming the Germany international had been left out of their squad for a friendly against Swiss Super League side St Gallen while he holds talks with another club.

Werner scored 93 goals and made 40 assists in 157 appearances in his first spell at Leipzig before signing for Chelsea for £45m in July 2020.

However, his stint at Stamford Bridge was a largely disappointing one as he netted only 10 times in 56 Premier League games before re-joining his former club in 2022.

He is a really good striker and he would be a useful addition into the Tottenham's squad.

Tottenham are close to agreeing a deal for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin for a fee of about 25m euros (£21.5m) plus add-ons.

Defender Djed Spence, who has just returned to Spurs after an unsuccessful loan at Leeds United, could join Genoa on loan for the rest of the season as part of the deal.

Dragusin has started all 22 of Serie A side Genoa's matches this season.

Bayern Munich have also shown interest in the 21-year-old Romanian.

Dragusin came through the ranks at Juventus and spent time on loan with Genoa before making the move permanent last summer.

Tottenham have been in the market for a centre-back to support Cristian Romero and Mickey van de Ven, who have both suffered with injuries this season.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has played full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal in central defence in recent weeks to cover injuries in the back line.

Eric Dier has also been out of favour with Postecoglou, who said they can afford to lose the defender, and Bayern are reported to be in for the England international.

Dier, 29, has been capped 49 times by England but struggled to claim a first-team place for Tottenham this season, and reports in Germany say he is close to a move to the Bundesliga champions.

Meanwhile, Spence's season-long loan deal at Leeds was cut short and he returned to the club after making only seven appearances in the Championship.

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Germany striker Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season.

Werner's move includes an option for a permanent deal in the summer.

He bolsters Tottenham's forward options with Son Heung-min away with South Korea for the Asian Cup and James Maddison sidelined with injury.

The 27-year-old has Premier League experience with Chelsea after joining the Blues in a £45m move from Bundesliga club Leipzig in 2020.

What a Drag. Tottenham's bid for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin could be hijacked.

Tottenham's bid for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin could be hijacked by Bayern Munich.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says the Bundesliga giants have sent a formal offer, which is thought to be slightly higher than Spurs' bid and does not include a player in exchange, to the Romanian's club.
However, Romano adds that Spurs are still confident of landing Dragusin as they've previously agreed terms with the 21-year-old.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has suggested new signing Timo Werner is a "different player" to the one that struggled at rivals Chelsea.

The German forward, 27, has joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig for the rest of the season, two years after his frustrating spell at Chelsea ended.

Werner scored 23 goals in 89 appearances and won the Champions League with Chelsea.

Postecoglou says "what happened in the past is not relevant".

"I don't look too much into that," said the Tottenham manager.

"I'm looking at what he can give us today not what happened three or four years ago.

"I'd dare to suggest he's a different player, certainly a different person. We all evolve. He's more mature probably at a different stage of his life."

Werner could be utilised in the Spurs front three as a replacement for Son Heung-min, who is currently on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup and could miss the next four league games.

"When talking about players coming in, it's about 'do I see them playing in the team I've got and I'm creating?'," Postecoglou added.

"Particularly with Son [Heung-min] going away for such a period of time, we still felt we needed another player in the front third.

"Timo was at a point where he was looking for something to change from his current status and moving was one of those options.

"I thought Timo would be a good fit for us stylistically. He certainly has the attributes we look for. He can play all three positions [across the front line] which adds some real depth for us and quality in the front third.

"What happened in the past is not relevant. He's at a good age, has national team aspirations, wants to play at the highest level and this club offers him that opportunity."

Werner is joined at Tottenham Hotspur by fellow new recruit Radu Dragusin.

The Romania centre-back signed from Genoa for £25m on Thursday and Postecoglou says the 21-year-old has some "great attributes".

"He's a good fit for us from a football perspective," Postecoglou said before Sunday's Premier League trip to Manchester United.

"He certainly has some great attributes as a young player and from my chats with him as a person he's come in with the right motivations.

"We had some pretty clear objectives. If there's an opportunity for us to get better, we'll take it."

Tottenham are readying a shock last-gasp bid to prise Conor Gallagher from Chelsea before the January window closes, sources have told Football Insider.

Well-placed sources revealed to Football Insider that Spurs will now revive their interest in the 23-year-old after failing to sign Man City ace Kalvin Phillips this month and struggling to bring in the midfielder Ange Postecoglou wants.

Tottenham fans hoped to see James Maddison's trademark darts-throwing goal celebration against Brentford on Wednesday night, on his first start for nearly three months.

They saw it three times - and not once from Maddison. The first time was not even from a Spurs player.

Maddison starred for Spurs in their 3-2 Premier League win, making his first start since 6 November when he injured his ankle in the chaotic home defeat by Chelsea.

Things started badly for Maddison and Spurs however, as Brentford broke their high line in the 15th minute through Neal Maupay bundling home his 100th career goal.

Maupay marked the moment by stealing Maddison's celebration, throwing mock darts towards an enraged home support.

Maddison was none too impressed, and was captured on camera exchanging words and unfriendly hugs with Maupay afterwards.

Ange Postecoglou challenged his Tottenham players to sort out their differences with Brentford in a UFC ring after a full-blooded win on Wednesday.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Bees striker Neal Maupay riled up the home crowd and players when scoring the opener at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, mimicking James Maddison's iconic darts celebration much to the displeasure of the England international and his Spurs team-mates. That set the tone for what ended up being a feisty encounter in north London, and Postecoglou continued the fighting talk after the full-time whistle.

WHAT POSTECOGLOU SAID
Asked about Maupay's actions giving his players any extra motivation, the Spurs boss replied: "I hope not because that’s exactly what I’m talking about. I’m not a fan of it, I don’t like the whole bravado, pushing people around. If you’re that brave about things, my players and their players, get into a UFC cage and I’ll see how brave they are. We’re out there to play football. And that’s what I want our guys to do, focus on playing football. And they shouldn’t get motivated by things that aren’t really that important to us. Like I said, we got sucked in first half. Second half was much better.”

WHAT JOHNSON SAID
Despite Postecoglou's wishes, Spurs forward Brennan Johnson admitted to getting frustrated by Brentford's behaviour before settling in the second period, as he told reporters post-match: "We expected what was going to come, for them to get set pieces and play a tough game and we fell for it in the first half. We were getting riled up by some of their players. Second half, we just had to take a deep breath and play our football. It was one of those games, the manager said it, once we score one, we will score two and three, those were his exact words. As soon as we scored that first goal so early, we had to keep that momentum going."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Johnson, Postecoglou and Spurs ended up having the last laugh at full-time, though, with the Welshman on target alongside Destiny Udogie and Richarlison in the second half. Ivan Toney bagged his second goal in as many games since returning from an eight-month suspension, but it only ended up being a consolation as Spurs held on for all three points.

WHAT NEXT FOR SPURS?
The thrilling 3-2 victory puts Tottenham back in Champions League contention. Postecoglou's side leapfrog Aston Villa into fourth on goal difference, with their next challenge coming away at Everton on Saturday.

England defender Eric Dier has triggered an option to make his move to Bayern Munich permanent this summer to signal the end of his Tottenham career.

Dier, 30, joined Bayern on loan until the end of the season in January after he fell out of favour at Spurs.

The deal included a clause which would activate a new 12-month contract at the Allianz Arena if he played a certain number of games at Bayern.

Dier's contract with Tottenham was set to expire on 30 June.

He has played six times for Thomas Tuchel's side, including four starts for the defending Bundesliga champions.

Cheltenham-born Dier joined Tottenham in a £4m deal from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in 2014 and made 274 Premier League appearances for the club.

However, he made just one league start under Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou before he followed Harry Kane to Bavaria.

Dier has been capped 49 times by England since making his debut for the Three Lions in November 2015.

Richarlison out for up to four weeks with knee injury

Tottenham forward Richarlison has been ruled out for up to four weeks with a knee injury.

Spurs host Crystal Palace on Saturday. They will also be without Pedro Porro (muscle) and Ryan Sessegnon, who this week had surgery on his right hamstring.

"Destiny (Udogie) has trained but Pedro is probably a week away," said manager Ange Postecoglou.

"Richarlison is out for three to four weeks. He picked up a knee injury last game and Sess is out, so still down a couple of numbers.

"Richy is disappointed because he's been a key contributor, but that has been how our season has gone.

"With Sess, it is a tough one. He has worked hard to come back and it is always more challenging when it happens as a series of events."

Postecoglou: "£100m signing for Spurs in the summer? If I had the luxury of £100m, I would rather get two £50million players than one player for £100m".

"I always felt that it is really important how you use the funds you have available and know they are not limitless".

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou snapped back at a reporter for calling touristy fans 'plastic'.

Spurs recently upset supporters by announcing a six per cent rise in the price of season tickets.

One journalist asked whether the north Londonders were targeting 'tourists' and 'plastic fans' who were willing to pay more money.

But Postecoglou considered that view to be disrespectful.

"See that's really harsh and I'll tell you why," the Australian responded.

"Because I'm probably plastic and tourist because I was coming from the other side of the world really passionate about football and if I could get access to see a Premier League game, that was the world to me.

"So, to label people plastic or tourist, I don't think that's fair just because people live on the other side of the world. This football club has supporters all over the world, has supporters all over the UK that don't always get access to the games of people who live here.

"And I think we should always have the ability to accommodate them and give them that feeling. It doesn't make them any less passionate.

"I think it's really disrespectful to call fans who are willing to go to the expense of coming halfway around the world [as plastic fans]. You don't know how passionate they are about their football club.

"Maybe they've only started supporting it in the last two years, who knows? I don't know. But that doesn't diminish who they are, I don't think."

Tottenham also removed concessions for new season ticket holders aged 65 or over, citing an increase in matchday costs and highlighting that prices have only been increased by 1.5 per cent over the last five years.

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust have been left 'dismayed' by the move - with Spurs still yet to deliver any meaningful silverware since 2008, despite a marked improvement under Postecoglou.

Asked whether clubs face a 'balancing act' between UK-based fans and those abroad, the Spurs boss added: "Well it's a balancing act only if your end means isn't about growing your football club and I'm talking about in every aspect.

"It's why we do tours around the world is to take this team to places in the world where I know people are passionate.
"I know there are passionate Spurs supporters in Australia, just as passionate as they are here.

"They don't live here, they can't come to the games, they can't buy a season ticket. In fact, I've had friends in Australia who do buy season tickets and can only get here a couple of times a year because that's how passionate they are.

"As long as your overall objective is to grow your football club, then I think you'll find the balance you need."

Tottenham forward Richarlison says seeking psychological help "saved his life" and has urged others with mental health issues to do the same.

The Brazil international, 26, said he was at "rock bottom" but therapy helped him to "turn things around".

He has scored nine goals in his past 13 Spurs games and could reach 50 Brazil caps in upcoming friendly games against England and Spain.

"As a player who has an active voice, I tell people to seek help," he said.

"We know how prejudiced people are when they say they're looking for [psychological] help. Thank god I'm not prejudiced about it any more.

"I talk about it because it saved my life. I was at rock bottom. Only players know how much pressure we're under, not only on the pitch but also off it."

Richarlison said he was going to seek psychological help in September after he was pictured in tears while being substituted during Brazil's 5-1 World Cup qualifying win over Bolivia.

The former Watford player said his reaction was the result of "getting the things that were happening off the pitch out of my system".

On the pitch he had scored only four goals in 40 games for Spurs since joining for £60m from Everton in the summer of 2022.

In November, he had surgery on a groin injury he had been suffering with for "eight months" and was sidelined for several weeks.

Since returning in December Richarlison has rediscovered his goalscoring form and earned a recall to the Brazil squad.

"I'm back in the Premier League, helping my club," he added.

"A few months ago, when I didn't get a call-up to the national team and said I will return, I worked hard during those days. I'm happy, and I've managed to turn things around."

Tottenham Hotspur have been boosted by the return of Micky van de Ven for their Premier League clash against Luton Town after the defender recovered from a hamstring injury, manager Ange Postecoglou

The 22-year-old Dutchman missed Spurs' shock 3-0 loss at Fulham, which left them in fifth place and three points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa, who have played a game more.

Spurs host Luton, 17th in the table, on Saturday.

"All the internationals got through unscathed. They've come back all good. Micky was the one who missed the last game. He's trained the last couple of days and is available," Postecoglou told reporters.

The Australian also said Richarlison's fitness is being managed after the Brazilian striker was an unused substitute during his country's friendly matches against England and Spain.

"He is okay. He's had a knee niggle that we've been managing and Brazil managed him, but he trained today and feels good," Postecoglou said.

Earlier in the week, Richarlison opened up about his battle with depression after Brazil's quarter-final loss to Croatia at the 2022 World Cup and had also urged players to seek help for mental health issues.

Postecoglou said the 26-year-old has taken responsibility for spreading awareness about mental health.

"If we strip it all back, we're all just human beings. He has benefited from the support that exists — he's benefited from it so directly. He's taken on responsibility of trying to share that around," Postecoglou said.

"It always makes more impact when it's someone high profile or someone that people think doesn't have any problems, and it's seen as a sign of weakness to ask for help. It's a great conduit for others to reach out and see you can get help when required.

"We've all got challenges and problems in our lives, there is help out there and hopefully it doesn't get to a point where it is so overwhelming it affects everything you do. It's a credit to Richi — he sought help and now he wants others to benefit from it."

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy says club in talks with 'prospective investors'

Tottenham are in talks with "prospective investors" after reporting losses of £86.8m in their 2022-23 accounts, says chairman Daniel Levy.

Total revenue increased by 24% from 2022 to a record-high £549.6m, with matchday income reaching a record £117.6m.

But they reported a loss for the fourth successive year following the 2022 deficit of £50.1m.

Levy stressed the need to "capitalise on our long-term potential".

"To continue to invest in the teams and undertake future capital projects, the club requires a significant increase in its equity base," he said.

"The board and its advisors, Rothschild & Co, are in discussions with prospective investors. Any recommended investment proposal would require the support of the club's shareholders."

Under Premier League profit and sustainability (PSR) regulations, clubs can lose a maximum of £105m over a three-season period, or £35m per campaign, before facing sanctions.

Tottenham's losses over the last three years are beyond that threshold at £220.7m, but the annual depreciation charge of £72m, which refers to their stadium and other facilities, means they are not at risk of breaching PSR regulations.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have already been punished with points deductions this campaign for breaking PSR rules, while Championship side Leicester were charged last month by the Premier League for allegedly breaking spending rules during their last three seasons in the top flight.

"The club remains fully compliant with the rules and is supportive of the enhancement of PSR to ensure the Premier League remains competitive and sustainable," Levy said.

"We have operated on a financially sustainable basis and can now optimise the true value of key assets, the unrivalled facilities at our multi-use stadium and our training campus.

"We expect commercial revenues to rise from third-party events, although this will not compensate for the lack of European football this season."

After finishing fourth in 2021-22, Tottenham returned to the Champions League last season - reaching the last 16 - bringing in £56.2m in Uefa prize money, compared to £10.2m in the previous year's accounts when they suffered a group-stage exit from the Europa Conference League.

They finished eighth in the Premier League in 2022-23 and are not involved in European football this term.

Tottenham's accounts for 2022-23 showed operating expenses had risen by 21% from £403.4m to £487.9m, due to increased first-team costs and the hosting of multiple non-football events, such as NFL fixtures, boxing and music concerts.

A "significant and continued investment in the playing squad" saw the wage bill rise by 20% to £251m. Levy also had a pay increase from £3.2m to £3.5m, while taking home a £3m bonus.

In March, Tottenham announced season ticket prices would increase by 6% for the 2024-25 season, with the most affordable adult season ticket costing £856, up from £807 this season. They are also removing the concession for new senior season ticket holders - those aged 65 and above - from 2025-26.

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust said the decision was "unacceptable" and "cannot be justified".

Tottenham said the increase in season ticket prices is because they have only raised prices once in the past five years - by 1.5% - and there had been a "significant increase in matchday costs".

The accounts do not mention how much it cost to dismiss manager Antonio Conte, who was relieved of his duties at the club in March 2023, with Ange Postecoglou appointed his permanent successor on 6 June after interim spells from Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason.

Spurs also saw talisman Harry Kane sold to Bayern Munich for 100m euros (£86.4m) in August, but that deal fell outside of the financial window and will be included in the 2023-24 accounts.

Ange Postecoglou will "never understand" any Tottenham fans wanting their own team to lose even if it helped deny Arsenal the Premier League title.

Spurs host Manchester City on Tuesday in a match which could prove crucial to the outcome of the title race.

A win or draw for Tottenham against Pep Guardiola's side would put north London rivals Arsenal in pole position to finish ahead of defending champions City.

The Gunners currently hold a one-point advantage at the summit but have played a game more than City, who would return to top spot with victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with one game remaining.

Spurs, meanwhile, are chasing fourth-placed Aston Villa, who they trail by four points, with a Champions League place on the line.

It has left some Tottenham fans with mixed feelings heading into their penultimate game of the season but Postecoglou was clear with his views.

"I understand rivalry. I was part of one of the biggest ones in the world in the last couple of years with Celtic and Rangers," the Spurs boss said.

"But I've never, and will never, understand if someone wants their own team to lose. That's not what sport is about. It's not what I love about the game."

Postecoglou believes "100% of Spurs supporters" want his side to win against City but acknowledged "people are allowed to feel the way they do".

The 58-year-old Australian, however, said he has not "lived my life" taking "pleasure from other people's misery".

He added: "Real success looks like trophies. Anything else in between, bragging rights, whatever, it is absolutely meaningless to me.

Bissouma robbed of luxury watch in Cannes attack

Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma was robbed of his luxury watch by two assailants on Sunday.

The Mali international, 27, was with his wife outside a hotel in Cannes on the French Riviera when the mugging occurred at around 04:00 local time (03:00 BST).

Bissouma was returning to his hotel when two hooded men attacked him with tear gas and took his watch worth 300,000 euros (£255,000) before fleeing, his lawyer Bastien Caire confirmed following media reports.

Caire declined to comment further while an investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, Tottenham said: "We are aware of the incident that took place and we will continue to check on the welfare of Yves and his family."

Bissouma joined Spurs from Brighton for £25m plus add-ons in the summer of 2022.

He made 28 appearances for the club last season, when they finished fifth in the Premier League and qualified for the Europa League.

Tottenham have released Tanguy Ndombele from his contract a year early.

The France midfielder joined for a club-record £55million from Lyon in 2019.

However, the 27-year-old has only made 91 appearances over five years and hasn't played for the club since January 2022.

On that day, Spurs were 1-0 down in the FA Cup third round against Morecambe and dawdled off the pitch when substituted.

This irked supporters who roundly booed their player for his antics before their team scored three goals in 14 minutes to scrape victory over the minnows.

Since then, Ndombele has had loan spell with former side Lyon, Napoli, and Galatasaray.

And he has earned league titles with the last two, although mainly figuring as a substitute, and featured in the Champions League.

Ndombele will not be given a shot at redemption in north London, however, with the club confirming he has left.

In a statement, Spurs said: "The club can confirm the departure of Tanguy Ndombele following the mutual termination of his contract, effective from 30 June, upon the conclusion of his current loan spell.

"Signed from Olympique Lyonnais in July, 2019, the midfielder scored on his debut against Aston Villa and went on to make 91 appearances for us in all competitions, scoring 10 goals.

"During his time here, Tanguy had loan spells back at Lyon, Napoli and with Turkish Süper Lig side Galatasaray last season.

"We should like to wish Tanguy all the best for the future."

Ndombele was believed to be on a weekly wage of around £200,000.

Spurs fans will feel frustration at the player's exit given the amount of talent he possesses but has been unable to harness.

Ndombele scored on his Premier League debut against Aston Villa and went on to score a key goal against Manchester United, while also delivering eight assists.

Tottenham managers were also left exasperated by the player.

During his time in charge, Jose Mourinho said: "Tanguy, I have to be honest, Tanguy is the kind of guy who you always expect more than what he gives you, because he is so talented that you always expect more.

"More because the talent is amazing. You know I think by the talent point of view, by the creation in midfield, by the vision, he is second to nobody at this moment in European football.

"But the feeling is always that he has something more to give. He never reaches the limits of the effort, the sacrifice, even the ambition.

"So he is the guy that I love him as a player but frustrates me a little bit because I think he can be much better, much better than what he is.

"When I see, for example, France and Tanguy was not playing, I don’t blame Didier [Deschamps]. I blame Tanguy, because he’s better than the other guys.

"He should show that every day in training and in every match."

Speaking about Ndombele’s struggles at Spurs, Antonio Conte said in 2021: "I have seen many managers struggle with his position.

"He has the quality. He has to understand it is a team and he has to play into the team. It is important to do what the position asks you to do.

"We are working very hard. He has to work much more than the others. He has talent but he has to put it into the team for the team, not for the single player."

The news comes just days after Spurs released Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic and Japhet Tanganga.

Bentancur apologises to Son for racial slur

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has apologised to captain Son Heung-min for using a racial slur on Uruguayan television, saying it was a "very bad joke".

While appearing on Canal 10 show Por La Camiseta, Bentancur was asked by host Rafa Cotelo for a Spurs player's shirt.

The Uruguay international replied: "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same."

After backlash to the clip, which was circulated on social media, he apologised to the South Korea international on Instagram.

"Sonny brother," he wrote. "I apologise to you for what happened, it was just a very bad joke.

"You know I love you and I would never disrespect you or hurt you or anyone else! I love you, brother!"

Son is yet to publicly respond to the apology.

The two players have been team-mates since Bentancur joined the club from Juventus in January 2022.

Bentancur is preparing to represent his country at this summer’s Copa America in the United States, which starts on 20 June.

Bentancur has apologised to me for racial slur – Son

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min has said team-mate Rodrigo Bentancur has apologised to him for using a racial slur.

Appearing on Uruguayan TV, Bentancur was asked by a presenter for a Tottenham shirt, before replying: "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same."

Bentancur later apologised on Instagram and said his comments were a "very bad joke".

"I've spoken to Lolo," said Son. "He made a mistake, he knows this and has apologised.

"Lolo would not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive. We are brothers and nothing has changed at all.

"We're past this, we're united, and we will be back together in pre-season to fight for our club as one."

Anti-discrimination charity Kick it Out said it had received a "significant number" of complaints about Bentancur's racial slur, which highlighted "a wider issue that heavily affects East Asian and wider communities".

Tottenham said they had "been providing assistance in ensuring a positive outcome on the matter" between their two players.

"This will include further education for all players in line with our diversity, equality and inclusion objectives," added Spurs in a statement., external

"We fully support that our captain Sonny feels that he can draw a line under the incident and that the team can focus on the new season ahead.

"We are extremely proud of our diverse, global fanbase and playing squads. Discrimination of any kind has no place at our Club, within our game or within wider society."

Tottenham Hotspur have signed midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds United for about £30m, with defender Joe Rodon moving in the opposite direction in a deal worth about £10m

Gray has signed a contract until 2030 with Spurs, who Leeds said had "met a release clause that was triggered by the club’s failure to get promoted at the first attempt".

The sale is believed to be enough to make the Elland Road club compliant with profit and sustainability rules, after their defeat in the Championship play-off final by Southampton cost them promotion and forced them to sell players.

Spurs have beaten Brentford to the signing of 18-year-old Gray, who played 52 matches in all competitions - in midfield and at right-back - for Leeds last season.

England Under-21 international Gray, who also qualifies for Scotland, is the great-nephew of Leeds legend Eddie Gray and the Yorkshire club said they had agreed to the teenager's transfer "with a heavy heart".

They added: "Whilst we understand that supporters will be hugely disappointed to lose such a homegrown talent, and a family name so synonymous with Leeds United, the move improves the club’s chance to compete for automatic promotion next season by increasing our ability to build a competitive squad within the league’s financial control regulations.

"Everyone at Leeds United is heartbroken to see one of our own depart and would like to thank Archie for all his efforts and professionalism."

Wales international Rodon, who was on loan at Leeds last season, has signed a four-year deal with the club.
