I think both Umar himself and PCB were unfair. Although lately whatever has happened. Including his absence from the team is his fault.

Dude was getting out on ducks against club bowlers in Ramadan tournament last time. No performance on the field but full performance off the field.

Ahmad Shehzad, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir polished their soft skills and presented their case in media. Amir & Imad even managed to negotiate a comeback in exchange for keeping their mouth shut and PR in check. Ahmad Shehzad is in course of comeback too. Umar Akmal is a paindoo and didn't even tried it sincerely. Everytime i see him on media, he presents a defeated depressed man who was wronged by his people. He doesn't display any confidence, self belief in his body language. Its hard to support such a person who has given up on fighting for himself. The game is dirty and not fair but it is what it is. You have to get your hands dirty if you gotta play and win. Umar needs a PR agency and a media manager.
