Umar Akmal versus Virat Kohli

Umar Akmal has got a great start, is already a star in world cricket. People calling him most talented of last 15 years, next big thing, like next Sachin

Virat of almost the same age has shown some promise. Some good performances already but not yet got the world attention as he's yet to do it on a big stage

Virat Kohli.

Its not even close, Kohli the best talent out of India since Sachin,Dravid.

Who's better right now and who's gonna achieve more in 10 years time? :13:

Both of them highly talented but with an attitude problem and unless they get their focus back and give the respect to the game that it deserves, its highly unlikely that both will last for that long.

Any other day I would pick Umar Akmal, but the way Umar has been performing recently (horrendous to say the least?), I would say it's pretty even between the two.

Erm...Kholi doesn't even get a game for India.

So by default, Akmal.

Umar Akmal was supposed to be Next Tendulkar. :P

Now comparing him with Virat Kohli???

On a serious note:

Currently, Umar has established himself more in the international arena. Due to
1. Not so strong batting line up of Pak team.
2. Performed very well during first few series of his career.
3. Kohli getting his chances only when someone is not available in Indian team.
4. Kohli not shown something big against major teams except SL and BD.

However, I like the attitude to improve in Kohli than Akmal. Akmal is not showing any signs of getting better than what he was and doesn't look like a learner of the game as they say. Where as Kohli is taking his career very seriously as he knows how difficult it is to get into this batting line up.

Dhoni should give more chance to Kohli than Rohit/Jadeja as the later ones look lazy and without right attitude.

Both are talented, no doubt about that.

Kohli is a future captain material, but like Praveen Kumar, he seems angry all the time.

At the end of their careers:

Tests: Kohli = Umar
ODIs: Umar >/_ Kohli (Umar better or equal)
T20s: Umar >> Kohli (no doubt)

So I would pick Umar Akmal.:D

Kohli's good, Umar's been pretty awesome so far in his career, Kohli needs more international exposure to make a judgement.

:))) Kohli hasn't even played a Test yet, what are you talking about IAJ?! ^

:))) Kohli hasn't even played a Test yet, what are you talking about IAJ?! ^

Umar played test only becoz Pak having crunch in Batting department.... :)

Kohli currently not even in the list of probables for Test Debut ..:D

and For Jnr Akmal ...I wanna say one thing only ...he got the wrong attitude @ wrong time ....:)

:))) Kohli hasn't even played a Test yet, what are you talking about IAJ?! ^

if umar akmal would have been in indian cricket set-up ..he would not have been debuted in club level also.....:13:

we have 26278238393938230238923 better batsman than umar akmal at our domestic level....

I think Kohli is our future #3 for test ! ;)
He will surely get a chance soon, he's just 22

:)) Kohli is a do takkey ka player

Umar Akmal is ten trillion times better than him, it's doesnt seem that way because he can't get a stats boost on paratha wickets like Kohli babu

here in pakpassion umar akmal has been known with a justified name....

MINDLESS SLOGGER........

:)) Kohli is a do takkey ka player

Bhai u haven't seen Kohli batting ...i think ....:) ...atleast he is of not do taaka ...;-)

Umar Akmal only Failed against England in their Home Conditions, I wanna see how Virat Kohli Performs in England when Anderson is swinging the ball miles only then I will come to a conclusion, as of now Umar Akmal is ahead because he has more good performances than Kohli.

Umar Akmal will definitely get more chance to show his skills n calibre then kohli bcoz of fragile Pak batting lineup ..n even his 30s n 40s will do wonder coz of lineup ..but kohli's 30 will b termed as flop coz so many batters waiting n ofcourse for our batting lineup....

similarly ....Talha Wahab have to show good performance else they will b termed as flop becoz of Pak powerhouse in bowling....:)

I don't say Kohli is great n all....i'll never hype him that much ...but i will not discard him even coz he not played in English condition....buddy first he need to set himself in our lineup ....:)

Not seen anything special in Kohli. Hasn't done much against the big guns and I doubt will get a chance any time soon due to India's strong batting line-up. Umar's recent form shouldn't overshadow the fact that this guy took on arguably one of the fastest pace attack (Tait, Nannes, Johnson) and deposited them to all corners of the ground. You need special talent to do that! Kinda expected him to get bamboozled by the English conditions, specially since he wouldn't have experienced such exaggerated movement so far in his career

So you mean your club level players can smash you national team bowlers all over the place ????? thats a pity.

IMO Jnr Akmal is very good batsman ..but got the wrong attitude @ wrong time ...becoz he think he is must for Pak batting which fortunately or unfortunately is quite right too....:(

and he is a great batting Talent for Pak ....coz there is a serious short coming in this department....

To early to compare, let them play for another year and then we will have a better picture.

similarly ....Talha Wahab have to show good performance else they will b termed as flop becoz of Pak powerhouse in bowling....:)

Talha/Irfan are not international level bowler, not yet, regardless of how strong Pak attack be, if they get into the team they will only struggle.

Jnr Akmal is a slogger whos been found out , needs to realize that hes no Viv Richards & learn to play proper cricketing shots ..he can be a 40+ avg batsmen then . Like I have said , hes not a great talent .

I would like to see any slogger in world cricket try and smash a 20-ball 50 against Australia at the moment. Heck, I would put my hand up if any of your 'superstar' batsman did it right now! As I said, Akmal's recent form shouldn't be an indication as to how good he actually is. He is playing in conditions totally alien to him and it will take more than a few weeks to get adjusted to such movement (dont forget Anderson can be nigh unplayable in such conditions)

Kohli's yet to play outside India a lot, its not his fault.
We'll see how he fares .

As i said, the little cricket he has played so far, he has shown a lot of promise in that

I told you about Akmal when he was averaging 50 , look where he is now ..& am not going to be wrong about Kohli either ;)

lool, and like I mentioned before, you're execting Umar Akmal to average 50 in his early 20's? what was Sachin's avg. in his formative years?

if all your future Tests are in India and against Bangladesh and SL, then yeah he is Test class.

After his debut India has'nt played much outside asia. He got only one chance in Australia when he played in emerging trophy and he scored 2 hundreds and 2 50s in that tournament. He is one of the brightest prospect along with pujara for tests.

He guided india to title with a century in final

a 20 ball 50 dosen make him a class batsmen , infact thats what sloggers do . Yuvraj on his day is more destructive than any player in the world , but that dosen make him a test class batsmen , hes done that against ozs and every other attack , plays more authentic cricketing strokes than Akmal mind you . My opinion on him has bee the same from the start , not based on his recent form . There is very little difference between Kamrans and Umers approach and technique to be very frank .Looks slightly more compact , so I expect him to be slightly more successful if realizes his limitations soon.

lool, and like I mentioned before, you're execting Umar Akmal to average 50 in his early 20's? what was Sachin's avg. in his formative years?

I never expected him to avg 50 , he wont ..but the most talented batsmen in last 50 years (?) can avg in low 30s . its not just about the avgs , like I have mentioned ..his shoddy technique will be found out , which you can see hes been .

his technique is not the reason he's struggling in England, far from it, it's been the undue pressure on him since he was the most 'experienced' MO bat in the side.

Common Guys, Kohli getting Media Exposure since the 1st IPL. He already played 3 IPL, Still never seen him performing like a World class player. Yes He is in and Out from Indian team because, too many batting options, But I never saw he took his chances and performed awesomely well. One of the Problem he has is, He scores good 20-30 then throws his wicket.

I would say Ambati Raiudu The HydaraBady Boy is better talent than any of Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja.

But he is not even getting any International launching as Ambati does not have a Lobby like Our Farhat or Kohli.

Now about Akmal.. You guys saying Akmal could establish himself in Pak team because of a weak Batting Lineup??? HA HA HA..

Akmal until now never played in his Home Soil, He alongside Amir will be two guys who will have to wait longest period time to get debut on their Home soil after already having debut in International Cricket.

Akmal is Good Lerner, But he is going through Bad Patch which every Player goes through in their Career. So, Its not a big deal and not a point to ignore his Talent.

He has Wide range of Strokes than Virat has, And over all better batsman against Fast Bowlers than Virat for sure as he scored heavily against Aussies in T20's and scored quite freely..

So, Please My Indian Friends, Try to judge through Talent that already shown by these two players, Don't favor them because one of them is from your country. After all our arguments will not effect their career for sure.

Just Hopping for the best of Luck for both the Players..

Even though he did tear apart that time's great spinner Qadir in some unofficial match, he was seen as a class young player with solid technique.
Hit a match saving century on first tour to England .
2 centuries on first tour to Australia as a 19 year old, one of those on Perth.

At Umar's age, Tendulkar had 1725 runs at average of 48 having played almost everywhere

The guy i think is not emphasizing on average but the way he plays

His first century came when india was tottering at 60 odd for 4 while chasing 290 odd.Even he scored his second century while chasing against bangladesh and at that time also india was struggling with early wickets.
He is next big hope for this indian team :)

i would say STOP the thread or get Kohli to play in bowling conditions, Umar akmal has been playing in NZ, Australia and now England and sometimes have failed becuse of his expereoince not becuase of his talent.
Virat Kohli has a long way to beat Akmal.....pls dont put all donkeys and Horses in the same Pen. Lets see how he performs against Australia but again it would be in India but never the less a better Bowling attack.....to me

Virat Kohli wouldn't even be able to play 5 overs in English condition if Amir and Asif are bowling....he has a good technique but yet to be tested properly

Those were two classy and elegant knocks :14:
Waiting for another

Can you explain a bit further where has he been found out. Most occasions his over excitement and adventuring wide ball has led to his downfall.

His technique is as good as it need to be .One thing that makes a batsman look big on the eyes is how much time he has to play his shots .
Umar has lot of it , he has all the ingredients of great batsman . He just has to improve in some areas to reach that point.
But calling him a slogger is a bit harsh .
Give him some benefit of doubt for the time being ;)

Kohli looks class.India really should nuture that kid, looks special.Great stats too.

http://www.cricinfo.com/india/content/player/253802.html

Averages 43 in ODIs and 47 in List A.

Average of 55 in FC Cricket.

Would welcome him into Pak team any day !

Kohli is a year older than Umar and made his ODI debut a year earlier and Akmal Jr has played a lot of matches away from home in alien conditions such as Australia,New Zealand,South Africa,Sri Lanka and now England.

Even Sachin would have struggled with having to adjust to different pitches, different bowlers right at the start of your career !

Playing vs Aus and Eng at the age of 20 is incredibly tough. We have to remember he's still a young guy.

Its not Umar Akmal that we tend to dislike, its just the way he gets out that seems to make everyone so judgmental.

Give the two time and they will be top, quality players.

Sachins record when he reached 20. ;)

32 2023 165 50.57 7 10 4 2/10 43.00 0 23 0

Including centuries in Manchester,Sydney,Perth,Johannesburg,Colombo

You mean you are waiting for another score like those, and then he can get himself out from national recon??? :))) lol.

Please say, You would like to see many more from his willow..

See my post above :)

We don't have time to look in the past, because its time to move on..

But you guys will surely look behind within next 2yrs-3yrs.. To see the Heroes stats ( Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, DADA ) and will start reminding your golden era's.. :) So, Good Luck..

He was sachin's replacement in that match and on his return he had to vacant that spot :)
He will mjost probably replace Rohit after this series as there is only one spot for them to compete as rest of the 5 spots are already fixed

I wasnt the one who brought sachin into discussion.Someone suggested sachin would have also struggled in so many different condition at the young age of 20. I just cleared his misconception.
Take it easy bro :)

Not the first person to mention Sachin so let me clear up your misconception ;-) ;-) ;-)

there's a big difference between 11 and 32 Test matches too...IIRC Sachin had made his debut when he was 15-16? that's a good 4 years he had already had in intl. cricket

if all your future Tests are in India and against Bangladesh and SL, then yeah he is Test class.

i think you lost test series to same SL 2-0... :)
and bangladesh batting is much better than yours....its not only said by me...but many people will agree here

many people here dont know that fact that Virat kohli is the fastest indian batsman to reach 2000 runs in international .......

so surely that makes him good for future........and the reasons some of the guys here made that he didnt utilize his chances hence turns wrong as he scored fastest 2000 runs among indian batsman

Imo you can't compare the two yet because both haven't played alot of games and Kohli hasn't played a test yet. I'll reserve my judgement till later.

who told you this....check out some other thread where everyone from pakistan is saying he(umar akmal) has only 2 strokes to play..slog over bowlers head and slog over mid-wicket.........

good players both of them. the challenge for india is to not let kohli become a IPL bully like rohit sharma, and make a good test cricketer out of him.
umar akmal has achieved more than kohli in the batting departement.

Umar Akmal will go through ups and downs in his career, but he is destined for greatness. Despite the lows his performance has hit recently, I still rate him and Amir to be the best things to come out of Pak cricket lately and both will go on to make a great name for themselves in world cricket.
