Umar Akmal versus Virat Kohli

I can tell you one thing if Umar Akmal plays on those same wickets that Virat played he would be a monster.

Umar Akmal scored heavily against Australia A, he played well against Newzland, got a 100 and 80+ against sri lanka, also showed lot of promise against Australia.

Its true hes having bad tour of england but so is every other batsmen including the likes of KP, collingwood and strauss.

Virat Kohli is a very talented batsmen, I have no doubt he will be around after a decade aswel but at this stage Umar Akmal have the edge :)
 
I don't believe in stats n all ....but why ppl come up with Tendulkar's name with Jnr. Akmal .. that's what i think gone in his head .... n that's not good for him n Pak team. ... n btw @ that age SRT was way better then in all department : Talent Technique n Temperament...

Meanwhile Asad Shafiq did a more then decent job today against Rusty Theron n company ....i have heard a lot about him on PP ...n he looks god too....hope for the best..:)

will you honestly tell me that SL conditions are easier than Eng, NZ or Aus? and Umar already smashed a ODI 100 against them.

many people here get very emotional after Pakistan loses, so you can disregard their comments at that time.

I am not going to convince you how good a bowler Amir is because its their for everyone to see how good he is at this age, the bowling greats are showering their praises at him :aamir

Harbjhan was on fire that night even mcgrath would fail to stop him he absloutley smoked it :14:

who told you that virat cant score in aus,end ....he has 2 100's and 2 50's in the emerging players tournament in Australia.....he didnt get a chance to play in england.....

i can say umar akmal is mindless slogger ( as this his fav. name here) the reason is that his technique ..he is so weak outside off...just bowl him in that channel and he will help for good easy catching practise behind stumps...

nothing special in him except slog over bowlers head or slog over mid wicket...:)))

hes still better than Kohli do you remember his debut 100 when pak was 4 down for not too many he played against shane bond..kohli would **** in his pants if he was put in same situation :umarakmal
 
in test cricket umar akmal sucks so kohli in test cricket gets my vote
ODI cricket umar is amazing so umar over kohli in ODI
T20 umar is amazing so umar over kohli in T20

better has to be Umar akmal
 
Umar is more talented,is more agresive while Kohli is prepared to guts it out n has better temperament.I'd have Kohli as top level is more about yemperament than talent

He along with gambhir chased 290+ total .He came at 60 odd for 4 and scored brilliant 115.

He also scored century in his next series in bangladesh against the host and again he came when situation was tight(I remember that match as i got unbelievable rates because of the situation :D)

In emergent trophy in australia he scored century in final against SA and carried india to title on his shoulders.He has done well in whatever limited oppurtunity he got.

Let me tell you something about him..Virat played for delhi hours after his fathers death and scored 90 runs to save his team from follow-on in a ranji trophy tie.That tells you about his level of dedication

i know his debut hundred.....he had almost 5 dropped chances in that...do you mean to say that hundred......:13:

Post a video of that 100. And post the exact points when those 5 dropped chances happen. Also please post how many dropped chances there were in his second innings knock of 75. Thanks a lot.
 
Sorry but Umar Akmal is completely rubbish. You know the reasons why...said it a zillion times. Temperament. Technique. Shot Range. No Brains.
 
Kohli for me.

Though I have to admit that circumstances have been completely different for both the players.

Kohli is still playing under the shadow of Tendulkar, Sehwag and co (in other words, senior players), hence that may have made him look better than he actually is.

Umar Akmal, however, was thrust into the team when the Pakistani middle-order was arguably at its weakest. He had the hard task of coming into the team and be instantly named the next big thing to come out of Pakistan

I wonder how these two players would cope with their careers if things were the other way round though.

I beg to differ - it simply tells me he's an insensitive, uncaring, p r i c k. I'm sorry - but there are times in life that you prioritise things other then your profession. Your fathers death is one of these.

The subject was about cricketing comparisons. And yes Kohli is ahead of Akmal by a long chalk - but this doesn't mean thet Kohli is the business. Ask again in 12 months time when he has played in England.
 
well if playing in england decides the excellence and skills of a player, akmal has been failed to impress. I can't say anything regarding virat as he haven't been tested in English pitches.

Tendulkar did the same, his father died in between 99 wc and he flew back India and then came back for match against Kenya and hit the most difficult century in his life.
 
Umar Akmal is better at this moment - who knows about 10 years time BUT for now Umar is the better player, only an idiot would say otherwise

A quick look at cricinfo shows the guy has 1082 ODI runs so where did you get this fastest to 2000 runs from?

if he had this many problems he wouldn't hit a century on debutant. that too on very hard pitch to bat on, under pressure, and against on fire bond. in all 3 formats he had very good start of his career. hardly any one would have started career like that in all 3 formats. so zedman you have zillion of problems not u akmal.
 
Hey Guys,, Umar And Kohli both has different types of attitude. Umar Only knows to attack no matter what situation his team going through.. But,, Kohli tries to set himself at the crease first then have a go,, But Problem is By the time Kohli gets himself set on the crease, he gets out.. ( most of the occasion ) And by the time Umar gets himself set at the crease, he already scored 40+ runs by simply attacking the opponent..

And that is where Umar is Better.. And We should not talk about future which only depends on those two guys, how they would like to apply themselves to prolong their career..

They Must have hired half of those number of batsman from China :))).. Because, Only these 2 countries having over 1billions of population. India certainly alone can't have that many people in their country alone.. LOL..

And we all know about the quality of Chinise Batsman.. Certainly better than GG.. The best premeditate Stroke Player I have ever seen..

Umar Akmal hasn't played any cricket at all in his home country while Kohli has hardly played outside the sub-continent. Enough said.
 
I think what i said at the start is probabaly right assessment.

At the moment, Kohli isnt anything in world cricket whereas Umar is the new star but Kohli has shown 'promise'. He has got a good learning head on his shoulders, has a full range of shots definitely more than Akmal jr.

Akmal's like a Sehwag without the Sehwag brain, he's got a great eye and the shots just need to develop that Sehwag mindset to save him from becoming another Imran Nazir.

Kohli looks like the smarter kid, he can make best of his abilities if he maintains the dedication

Akmal has kinda achieved a lot more upto now, he has caught the eye. Kohli is quite good.

I wish both of them bags of success in their respected careers and i hopethat they both will one day captain their teams against each other!
 
What is good for Kohli and maybe not for Akmal is that Kohli and other Indian youngsters wont be thrown right into the deep end. Its very difficult for a young Indian batsman to earn a test spot. Raina played over 100 ODIs before he made it to the test squad. So, when they do earn it, they know the value of it. Plus having people like Sachin and Dravid to mentor them always help in the long run

When you throw your wicket away playing silly shots or getting run out, its absolutely nothing to do with the pitch. Very rarely have I seen Akmal jr. getting out to a good ball. Sure he has loads of talent but that means nothing without temprament to back it up. He is great to watch in full flow. I am talking about tests of course. As for Kohli, he is unproven and only time will tell
 
From what I have seen, Akmal has way more shots than Kohli, but Kohli has the better temperament.

Akmal needs to reign himself in, otherwise all that talent would only be good enough for 20s, 30s, and the occasional 50, while a lesser player like Kohli will score far more runs more consistently.

Likewise Tendulkar got exposed when he got out on zero on the first ball.

Infact nearly all the bowlers in test history got exposed when they were hit for a six by a tailender batsmen.

We don't even use that logic while comparing Indian batting as a whole with Pak batting because we know that Indian batting is way better than Pakistan batting.As for Indian bowling, the least said about it the better!

We outbowled England in England. In SA we got the oppostion out for 88. In Australia, we werent bad either. On a fast Perth pitch, our bowlers outbowled Aus bowlers. At home against SA and Aus it was our fast bowlers who won man of the series and won us tests. Yes, our bowling must really suck

Rubbish.Both Ian and Sanjay rated England higher than India, infact all 4 analyst had poor things to say about Indian bowlers.Point to note that out of 4 analysts 2 were Indian and none were Pakistanis.

Now you need to first try and convince ur Indian brothers about ur bowlers achievement!

I expect Virat Kohli to be a very good test player if he stays focussed. He definitely has the ability. Umar Akmal will probably be a better ODI player and remain an average test player.

I think its unfair to bring Umar's test performances coz Kohli hasnt played tests yet.he hasnt played T20s too but that can be held against him coz he doesnt have the big shots yet,but in tests it is more case of big players being there.

both have played ODIs n FC have Kohli wins in both,while Umar wins in T20s
 
virat is good. but he is yet to play test cricket where as umer has already been exposed to test cricket and that too at 20 two years before virat....umer has played in australia,england and nz ...not the easiest places to bat and has had only one bad tour which indicates nothing but his learning phase...

umer certainly much better....

Umar Akmal Vs Virat Kohli

Both are talented, however

Kohli has used his potential very wisely and is far more consistent. Has performed in India against Australia and now doing a reasonable job for his team against SA. I am really impressed by the calmness and composure he brings to the crease, occupying the crucial one down position.

Contrast that to our U. Akmal, who would typically start his innings, trying numerous times to play a dab/late cut to third man and then trying each and every shot in the book, eventually leading to his demise.

Afraid, Kohli is much better batsman than Akmal Jr atm.
 
when Umar is at the crease he looks like he is fighting a swarm of bees. Lots of talent no brains, sadly true for most of our players young and old. Today is my first real look at Kohli, and he just looks the part.
 
Has to be Kohli,has a lot of potential,one to watch for the future.
 
people here on pp are generally against the indians but i admit that virat kohli is a legend in the making, i feel no shame in saying that. Such a classic player he is.
But mark my words, ahmad shahzad is a better talent. Umar akmal needs a mental growth. At the moment he is no way near virat.

Ahmad shahzad strutted in the u19 wc as some sort of superstar and then hardly scored a run. Poor attitude needs to be improved.
 
People here need to also understand that Kohli is playing in a team filled with not just experienced batsmen but simply great batsmen where as Umar doesn't have that luxury to bat with those type of batsmen. He doesn't have those experienced players to tell him what to do when he is at the crease. I do accept that at the moment Kohli is more accomplished as compared to Umar but the fact that he has the right mix of players to guide him makes it easier as compared to Umar who hasn't had those experienced players to guide him. I only know one thing that when Umar did have those class players working with him, he did wonders in NZ and in SriLanka. The point is that Pakistan hasn't realised how good Umar can be and hasn't provided him with right guidance to polish his skills. I only hope that having YK and Misbah will bring more stability to Umar's skills and help him reach the potential he is capable of. Besides, Kohli has never been put under pressure to be the main batsman like Umar was when he played in Englad and that's where it all went wrong for him.
