Umesh Yadav Performance Watch

Yadav has been misused. He doesn't know if he's the workhorse or if he is the strike bowler. But whichever he is, he needs to control his deliveries better. Can't be spraying them around the place like an uncontrollable porn star.

Had a bad day and is getting worn down mentally. Remains a great prospect for India.

Problem is, if you are a youngster with some fight and you come into a team where all the senior players give up pretty easily it would be pretty disheartening.

Easily the best Indian player this series for mine though.
 
What a gem of a innings by this young man, 6 short of a century he has destroyed the attack to all part while scoring ferociously fast.
 
Another century for the young man and with a brilliant economy rate of over 6 , at this rate he will soon catch up with :sachin
 
Excellent bowling by the young lad. He might make Yorkshire 2nd XI with this kind of skill. But nope, instead he will play for the Chennai Rhinos or whatever they are called and earn millions for being fairly useless.

I'm not a fan of Finn, but I don't dislike him either. He's the oddcase that he bowled a lot of 4 balls, and acquired alot of soft dismissals. Wickettaker, but let us see how he is after adding a yard of pace to his string.

Onions is my type of bowler though. I like bowlers with more control and ability to swing and seam. I love express pace and all, but Finn is not express, just fast. His ability is to get the awkward length ball, but he is not as controlled as Onions is when he bowls.

True onions would probably do better in the SC with wicket to wicket bowling. But we don't offer freebies as much anymore :farhat

the tag "indian cricketer" is enough for someone like me to hate that person!! i don't know why, maybe because of the rivalry between pakistan n india!! but, having said that, there are some people who are "indian cricketers" but still, one can't hate them.

rahul dravid n ajinkiya rahane are two players who never seem to be arrogant n have a great attitude towards game, unlike sreesanth or kohli or harbajhan etc etc, so they both are respectable imo.

latest addition to my list of respectable indian players is this guy umesh yadav. he is one of the best fast bowlers, if not the best that india have discovered recently. don't know, how vinay kumar n abhimaniyu mithun had been playing ahead of him.

he is a good bowler n to add to this a really humble guy, celebrates his wicket without sledging n hardly gives the batsman a send-off. good bowler with a good behaviour.
 
He got smashed around with ease by SL today even their tail-enders had fun against him , Malinga actually hit him for 16 in one of the overs.
 
Erm! It was flat pitch, he is bowling alright according to my liking. Took wickets when it was needed. SL had already lost the game when he was bowling at Malinga.

Anyway, I don't expect better from sour grapes posters. As expected. :D
 
He is a pretty avg. ODI bowler. Leaks boundaries. But if we need a strike bowler, we need to groom him, its gonna be him or nobody. Its not as if we have a great future with PK VK.
He indeed did well in the death overs against Parera and Sanga.
It was a dead over against Malinga so doesn't count.
 
Well Irfan Pathan was the best Indian pacer today by a long shot. Even Zaheer looked out of sorts.

Funny thing , Sohail Tanvir also did the same. outbowling the bigger name bowlers. I expect things to be reversed when India bowl first.
 
obvious , trundler is obvious ........... was trundling his way onto the middle of the srilankan willows at 130-132 kph , blame the ten sport speed guns or the srilankan pitches , but he seems to be another addition to the illustrious list of indian trundlers ,was spraying the ball all over the place too , like watching sami in slow motion .

india would want zaheer to play forever since the backup is pretty poor , on an unrelated note what the heck happened to zaheers hairstyle , looked like a cross between michael jackson and tendulkar .

got hammered again in the only over that he bowled , looks like dhoni has no confidence in him , will probably be dropped soon , another overhyped indian bowler , next please .

Yadav seems to have lost his magic recently.

India should still back him. He is bound to get smacked on the Lankan/Indian wickets at his pace.
 
I would have sami over him anyday in any format. Sami is 100 times better than him. And by our standards Sami is trundler.
 
Has a bowling average of 44 from 16 ODIs which is very poor. The search for a dependable Indian seam attack goes on.
 
Not good for ODIs at all. Pace seems pretty good, but nothing else is going for him.
 
told u before too .. he is not a consistent bowler ... once in blue moon he will produce some good spell
pace 145 k is good but no brain ...... sami is way better then him

Right! so a bowler is being criticized when he has less than 90 runs to defend. Get some perspective folks.

I thought those breakthroughs helped a lot in winning us that game.
 
Average of 40+ in ODI's and around 35 in tests is pretty horrible. I never really watched him a lot and didn't really notice his figures until the filth he bowled today, I had genuinely thought that India had found a decent pacer, how silly of me.

He should stick to the IPL, atleast he'll have the IPL excuse to back him.

I'd take Sami over Yadav everyday.

Waqar is being compared to Yadav. Please excuse me while I bang my head on a wall. Yadav is 24 which is not really 'young' for a fast bowler.
 
He just started his career. I will give him enough rope at the moment. He was praised for his 5-for in tests and pace. Harsh to bash him for bowling in ODIs on flat tracks and that after playing only 17 odis.
 
Took 7 wickets against WI, 7 wickets at MCG, 5-for at Perth. That's 3 good performances in 6 tests. And he is still very young and learning.

It's not. But, Experienced ... very 'good' bowling attack of England in England gave away lots of runs to Tino Best. He scored a century. What do you have to say about that?

Any bowler can be smashed by Tailenders.

Sure good for Pakistan and JK. As much Pakistan need bowlers like JK that much we need pace bowlers like Umesh for our team. We haven't had raw pace bowlers for quite a while now. I am not claiming Umesh has done very good so far, but it's very early for him to get bashed like this.

Let's see how he does in up coming home series!
 
Ok lets not compare Junaid Khan to Yadav; a better way would be to compare Yadav to his direct competitors in the Indian pecking order, and at the moment he's proly the better of the lot

Too early to judge yet. Cant compare him to Sami who has played for 11 years and is still struggling. Yadav is he sucks will not get to play for 11 years fullstop.
 
Yadav was never that great while playing in SC. He did bowl well while we toured Australia. What i like about him is he is a honest trier and a total work horse, like Siddle. He needs to be persisted.

Its the exact opposite in tests. He sucked in Australia even though he picked up one five-for and has a pretty good record at home.

Well he looked like the only bowler capable of taking wickets every time he came on to bowl in Australia, though the stats may be otherwise. Our best bowler on that tour, although it isn't saying anything as there were hardly any competition.
 
How good is Umesh Yadav

Its really hard to judge pacers from India in general.

Just saw the wickets Yadav took in this 1st test at Ahmedabad.

Only reason why he got LBW wickets is because he has air speed & ball was reversing at 140+KMP or 87 MPH on dead flat wicket.

Zaheer could have become a great bowler if he wasnt physical & mental Laziness & partying in his early to mid 20s.

Srinath could have become a great "india's fastest" bowler easily better than Kapil if he focused on conditioning and building his core body.

Pathan could have become a greatest "swing" bowler of his generation if he did not tampered with his bowling action & tried hard to become an all rounder.

Now..

Yadav looks extremely promising with smooth action & ball is seaming, swinging & reverse swinging at 86-88 MPH range. he also got air speed like pak bowlers normally have even the average ones.

Is he just gonna be just another "good" 300 TEST wickets bowler ala Zaheer, Vaas

or

Is he gonna finally become a "great" 400 TEST wickets bowler that India never produced.
 
He has one of those rhythmic free flow kinda action and is strongly built. Has the ability to bowl at 140+ KPH speeds consistently.

Not sure how long will he survive in Intnl arena but if he could concentrate more on pitching the ball up(like he did today), I am sure he will get more n more reward with his natural pace.

A very good prospect for us, nevertheless. I wish BCCI use him mostly for our test team(lesser work load on him, better n longer future for him with our team) rather than JAMODIs or T20s.
 
India needs t omanage him well for a few years and dont play him on flat tracks and kill his body like we did with Shoaib.
They have used him really well in this match though. Best way to go is short, fast spells
 
Got talent and physique, if he works hard on his game he can do great for us. You're right, if only Zaheer learnt the tricks at the right age he would have been wonderful. He needed Wasim, Waqar like mentors. :(
 
people seem to underestimate how intelligent he is...getting wickets u learn with experience but guy follows good fitness regime ..puts in lot of hard work and see how fit he is!
he is doing everything right atleast the things he can control unlike zack who gets fat when there is no cricket
u guys have to appreciate the heart this kid has 7 overs at pace while english bowler gave up so quickly and were bowling at praveen kumar pace...

signs are good compare hsi bowling vs nz to this..he will do wine away from home i was certain about this but seeing how he rreversed the ball (im sure zack helped him with this ) im sure we can have a good bower from india... :)
btw talent is not problem our selectors jsut love tundlers there is this 6 feet 6 inch tall guy pankaj singh who can touch 140's easily can bowl long spells with accuracy but dinda is preffered infront of him
he took 8-9 wickets in match where dinda got 1 :))))
still dinda is the back up ;)
 
Seen him in Australia and now in India vs England. Seems to have genuine pace, Not sure if he can handle longer spells at sustained pace - in Australia he sprayed around a lot, against England he's had little bursts and has been the fastest bowler on show on a slow dead pitch.

He definately needs to be managed and I think someone like a Waqar could really get him bowling well if he can learn quickly.

Overall, would reserve judgement on him until we see more sustained bowling in longer spells.
