“You’re 25 kilos overweight. Are you 20 kilos, 25 or 30 kilos overweight?” : Wade to Pant

This is actually pretty funny. Following Sandpaper gate, there was all this baloney about values and culture by the Aussies. This has actually ended up trapping their normally expressed emotions.

They love to give it to the touring teams Down Under, especially when the touring teams start performing. But the series is being played under “great terms” etc and their frustration is simmering but has nowhere to go.

Feel like the bubble may burst because it is one thing for Australia to lose. Quite another for them to lose in the most unAustralian manner of fighting tooth and nail (sledging, personal taunts, grounded catches, thick edges not given..)

Some Pakistani fans seem upset with Pant's growing popularity in the Aus media and public.

When the Australian PM shook his hand saying, "Oh the sledger", think that shows what they think of him - a buzzing fly in their ear. Those talking about his English skills are deliberately missing the point. You don't need to understand the language of a fly to know that it annoys you :rabada2

The last time India were in Aus, CA put out a compilation video of Pant's best sledges to Paine and Cummins. They added English captions because they obviously cared enough that their public should understand the words through the buzzing accent.

There's a video of Cummins posted in this thread. Pretty clear he was enjoying the needling in hindsight.

To sum up: Those trying to make Pant's lack of English skills or accent a thing, might perhaps be upset that the last time their team's keeper opened his mouth near a stump mic, he got banned :sarf

Lol he won’t go straight out and laugh at him. What are you expecting? He would be called racist.

I don’t know how it’s positive when he says that Pant is from the village, only knows few sentences of English etc etc
Pat Cummins himself is a country kid and why would he make fun of another? And his body language and the way he speaks about Pant mean no maliciousness, Atleast to me. For example, I have heard the radio interview of Hayden where he called Harbhajan an obnoxious weed and you could sense the anger and contempt for bhajji from his words.

Honestly not that hard to have contempt for Bhajji...Language was probably unnecessary :))

My answer is also same, nothing different.. No difference :yk

Pant can abuse Wade in 3 different languages and 5 different dialects from Garhwali to Haryanvi and in more colourful language. It doesn’t matter if he knows English as good as Wade or Cummins at present. India has a huge English teaching industry that trains millions enough to steal millions of jobs from English speaking westerners.

In a couple of years, Pant will be abusing the bemused Aussies and Brits with choicest Shakespearean quotes :)

O mighty Wade! Dost thou lie so low?
Are all thy conquests, glories, triumphs, spoils,
Shrunk to this little measure? Fare thee well.

Pretty sure, very soon IND vs AUS will basically be a game of IND vs IND (NRI-AUS division) lol ;)

I enjoyed the sledge, however a personal comment on someone's appearance lacks taste. I don't think Indians mind that as it seems to affect Aussies more, not one comment from Indians so far on these things. This when Indians (Kohli) asked Indians not to sledge Smith when they were touring. It's clear that Aussies are getting thoroughly rattled in their own backyard, they expected India to fold while it looks completely opposite right now. Charade of good behavior are being dropped and you will see more of it as the series progresses.

PCB needs to learn from BCCI, if you have the skills and the ability to play an innings like Pant did today then it shouldn’t matter if he’s obese.

I’d take Rakishi if he’s sitting 6’s over a sukha munda like Shan who goes for ducks.

In life, have some Rishabh Pant :smith

By the time, Pant's emoji comes in PP, we will do it with this one :inti

I guess you didn't see his thuggish behavior in the field today with rude gestures.
Not only that he also needlessly hit batsmen at least twice. Could have caused serious injury to Indian players, already plagued by so many injuries.

Didn't he hit or try to hit Vihari in the leg twice?

Was dropped on zero and then on 57. But really well batted

Without checking, I think he's scored more in a single innings with a fractured arm than Wade has in 2 of 3 innings this series. And at 3 times the strike rate.

I wonder if Wade thinks, "if only I had a broken F* arm" as well.

Wade should concentrate on his batting instead of engaging in these unnecessary battles.

Shouldnt he get a match ban like how Gambhir got for elbowing Shane Watson? Or that is reserved only for brown and black players? Though I wouldn’t like to ban him as he is a walking wicket.😂😂😂

He hit him twice. The first seemed like a genuine mistake. Second one not so sure :smith

They weren't really hard throws, but the second might have been tactical - just enough to irritate. To Vihari's credit, he didn't make a big deal out of it and focused on his batting.

Haha... Such cheap tricks don't work on calm souls.

To be honest, even Pakistanis reviewers are celebrating it on YouTube. People who understand how hard it is to compete at the highest level and against a bully home team like Aussies know this draw is worth so much actually, it's almost as good as a victory.

As a test cricket fan, surely you will recognize an epic fighting draw with the backs to the wall and many players injured and playing on painkillers?

Can't celebrate performances of our own players now? We saved a match against a full strength Aus without almost half of our main players, it is a big deal to us.

Wade is a literal liability for Australia. Like
He is legit wasting a spot and everyone including him must know this. So I don’t get this talk coming from him

No they didn't. But they avoided a certain loss despite playing with just 8 fit players.

When was the last time our team avoided a loss in Australia ?

Expect better than that from you, MiG buddy! They have earned their stripes today after surviving 3 sessions against quality bowling in away conditions while half the team was injured. Needs real character to pull this off.

Winning is not everything in test cricket, a rearguard draw is just as good.

Separately though & notwithstanding today’s heroics, i think Wade was right about Pant. A keeper has no business being this fat - getting fitter would help him with his keeping.

I think it is just the way he looks giving the impression he is fat. There was a video of him performing insane gymnastics in twitter. Like he was flipping multiple times.

His keeping is very average though. Especially to spinners. He really need to work hard on that.

Yes.He's not unfit

He is not fat, just bulky, see twitter video above with him in a wife-beater, performing gymnastics

Lol that’s kinda funny if you see the context

Basically Ashwin got hit a few times and each time called the physio / doctor to the field. So basically Wade is insinuating he is time wasting for calling doctors and making a meal of it. So mockingly did that when someone tapped his head..

You wouldn't understand this Miggy. Hard-fought draws in the southern hemisphere can only be appreciated when the team you support has a few of 'em to talk about. :srini

Australia have always had one or two such journeymen in their Test side throughout the last decade.

It is hard to even remember their names now. They are mediocre clones of each other, and most of them were lefties as well.

Things are finally look good now in terms of batting talent with the emergence of Labuschagne, Pucovksi and Green, but they do need a couple of more batsmen to replace Wade and pretty soon the aging Warner.

lol

Some cheap below the belt comments regarding Phil Hughes by Indian trolls on Twitter. Yes, Ozzies should be more sympathetic towards batsmen calling for medical attention after what happened to Phil but mentioning that again and again is crass.

I doubt both of Pucovski and Green will make it big. Labushagne is good but I’d like to see how he does in Asia before proclamations are made that he is better than Clarke.

We heard same about Handscomb, Burns and Renshaw and how they were elite talents. All are no way near the team now

I believe both will be excellent players down the line. They are immensely talented.

Pucovski is more gifted than Clarke and Green is more gifted than Watson. If they don’t get injured they will have top careers.

The others guy you mentioned had grit but limited ability, although I believe Handscomb could have become a good player but Australia dropped the ball with him too early. He certainly had more upside than Wade.

Pucovski has serious medical issues though. Neurological ones and those can last a lifetime. Otherwise, he's a phenomenal talent. Not sold on Green yet. He bowls 140 + and bats aggressively but so could Mitch Marsh and somehow the Australian system always prefers specialists to all-rounders

I totally agree. I think Pant is a terrific prospect: he's around 80% the batsman that Rohail Nazir is and he's around half as good at keeping wicket.

And that's pretty good!

Along with the rest of the non-Pakistani cricketing world, I am shaking in my boots thinking about what will happen when my country's team plays Nazir who is 125% the batsman and 200% the wicketkeeper that Pant is...
Mamoon "I don’t buy tickets for your joyride. Will leave the seat to someone else...." Sorry, couldn't resist :))

Wonder what made Junaids make such a comparison. Has this Rohail Nazir even made a 50 for Pakistan or ever made the test debut ?. Never heard of this guy...

Mamoon and his crystal ball, I would not bet against what he says from here on..😳

Wouldn't Hindi or Urdu speakers find it a little bit funny if Phillipe or some young Aussie keeper who had played a couple of IPL's/PSL's turned up & started chatting the batsman in Urdu or Hindi with just a few phrases & Australian way of pronouncing?

Cummins and the host were positive because it was showing Pant is a bit of a character & Aussies like little bit of sledging so it was just a funny moment.

No one was saying anything bad, Cummins has said he knows Pant a bit through IPL & so they are capable of joking at each other without getting their knickers in a twist.

Probably saw Rohail hitting some quick runs in a Habib Bank vs Lazeez Biryani T10 match. So Talent bohot hai!

If we're going by his rotund shape, then the same assumption can be made for Sachin.

Oh you mean THIS Sachin in his debut years like Pant is in?

15sachin1.jpg

Sachin didn't begin as a stout 35 year old. He was fit as a fiddle teenager & in his early 20s. The guy took no shortcuts.

Pant is extremely fit now. You cannot do flips on your head if you are even a bit unfit.

He was unfit when IPL started. Hence his form loss as he lost his bat swing. Since then he has worked a lot on his fitness and the timing has come back

He was unable to do the backflips this tine.

He tried doing it when he fell pulling Hazzlewood but he realized he wasn't gonna make it :)))

Without that draw we would have tied the series 2-2 instead of winning 2-1. Also very few countries draw in Australia, in last 10 years, they have had only 9 draws and 4 of them were against india

Yeah probably, but who the heck is this guy ? Rohail ? like has he played an international match yet ?

We should be the last people to utter "honourable draws" when we can't get a draw in Australia.

Reading through this thread now, you can see bitterness by some posters cloaked in contempt for (meaningless) things like Pant's English skills, his accent and so on.

Now that the Aus tour of Pakistan has ended, we can safely conclude...

Pakistan tried to be sweet and nice, got sledged and lost the series. At Home.

India didn't try to be friends, won the sledging wars, and also won the series. Away.
