PAKISTAN'S 'King of Speed' Ahmed Jamal says that he is loving life at Bromyard Cricket Club following a decent start to his debut season in Worcestershire County League Division One.

Jamal has so far taken 11 wickets for the Flaggoners Green side, including a five-wicket haul against Worcester Nomads.

He also recently got the better of South African star Wehan Joubert in the battle of the overseas players in Bromyard's derby game against Colwall.

Jamal bagged four wickets in that match and currently leads the Bromyard bowling attack.

He joined the Herefordshire side after Pakistan international Yasir Hameed recommended him to cricket agent James Hine.

"I am enjoying everything at the club and have mixed with all the members, as well as some of the social members," said Jamal, who is from Abbottabad.

"Bromyard is very different from what I am used to because the population is only 5,000 compared to 200,000 where I am from.

"But I am enjoying my time here - everyone is friendly and I have been made welcome at Bromyard.

"I go to the gym and do lots of exercises, so I am happy here.

"I have got no family staying with me, but some of the social members are always willing to help me and I get on with the the team.

Jamal's form may not have surprised many people because he has been tipped to reach the top by Pakistan legend Wasim Akram.

Jamal won a 'King of Speed' camp run by Akram last year as part of a nationwide search to unearth new pace talent in his home country and clocked 143kph (89mph) on the speed gun.

Akram called Jamal "the future" after spending 10 days with him, adding that one day he could take Pakistani cricket to new heights.

"I was very privileged to have been selected onto the camp and I spent one-on-one sessions with Wasim Akram," said Jamal,"

"He helped me a lot and I was very proud to win the competition.

"It is a great stepping stone for me and the aim is to eventually play for Pakistan.

"That is my goal and, until that happens, I won't be satisfied."

Some could argue that the 25-year-old could one day even threaten Pakistani quickie Shoaib Akhtar's world record for the fastest delivery ever record.

That 100.2mph blockbuster came against England in 2003, but Ahmed has already been clocked at 92mph.

"I think I could soon get up to 150kph (93.2mph)," said Ahmed.

"I have always been a fast bowler ever since I was 15.

"I also played football, but finished about two years ago to concentrate on cricket.

"I always do lots of training to develop my technique and bowl as fast as I can."

Jamal, who has replaced former Sri Lanka international Dinusha Fernando as Bromyard's international player, is a National Bank quickie that took 158 wickets in 42 first-class matches, including an eight-wicket haul in one match.

His first-class debut was for Pakistan Customs against Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited at Islamabad in November 2009.

Jamal took 4-101 off his 28 overs in that game and finished with an economy rate of 3.60.

He also picked up 6-25 for Abbottbad against Faisalabad at the Gohati Cricket Stadium in Swabi two years later, which saw Faisalabad bowled out for 74.

And in January this year, Jamal bagged seven wickets to help National Bank of Pakistan crush Pakistan Television by an innings and 53 runs at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Jamal is currently staying with Bromyard chairman and opening batsman Ashley Bullock.

Bullock said that he is delighted with how Jamal has settled into the team.

"He is a sociable guy that goes out and meets people," said Bullock.

"He is bowling well, but the wickets have been a bit soft at the moment.

"However, he is bowling with pace and a good line and the more he plays, the more he will adapt to the conditions."

The standard of cricket was poor and he is dreadful. My advice to him is to drink less and concentrate more on his cricket..

There are a bunch of bowlers in domestic cricket who can reach 145 with their effort delivery, bowling those speeds consistently is another matter altogether, which it seems only Wahab and Irfan can do.

Irfan is a 145kph bowler. He has probably been the quickest Pakistani pacer on average since his comeback. He has been bowling a little slower in a few recent matches but that is on purpose.

Keep in mind he had been carrying around that pelvic stress fracture around for a while too I am sure. We all could tell in recent months he was not bowling like himself, like he was holding himself back. I am sure the feat of pain will do that to you.

Yeah, his recent fitness issues and injuries took their toll. If he's refreshed and healthy, he'll give Riaz some serious competition in the fast bowling department.
