This statement tells you a lot about Babar's cricketing knowledge or lack thereof.
Tbf, I think he was just trying to back his player here. If he had said I trust bumrah Pakistani's would have eaten him alive.

I just think these morons need to learn how to approach the media.

You can literally just say no comment or next question please. Many cricketers have done that.

Best to avoid such questions cause journalists will always ask these 2 faced lose lose questions. Kohli and rohit were king at avoiding it, so is pat Cummings.

These morons can't conduct themselves

During a podcast interview, Babar Azam was asked to choose between Naseem Shah and Jasprit Bumrah if he needs to save 10 runs in the last over. Babar chose Naseem Shah. When Naseem Shah was asked about this during a media interaction at Gaddafi Stadium today, he replied, "Obviously, he is our captain, so he will definitely entrust the over to me."

I will never forgive the likes of Rauf, Shaheen, Nawaz, Naseem, Shadab for bottling an easy winnable match against Kohli and Pandya in the ICC T-20 WC 2022 in Melbourne where the pitch was pacy, bouncy.
When u compete against an legendary assassin , u have to fight till u die.idea of death alone scared entire pak team and logic does not matter if Ur prepared to die like kohli.kohli said he was so focussed by midway that he was not hearing any word when dravid spoke to him at 10 overs mark.

haha "Obviously mera kaptaan hai mujhay hi day ga" lolzzz

it means he is also confident that if babar wasnt his captain so he would have gone for Bumrah lol

So he shouldn’t back his player? This statement is a non issue
Totally agree. At this stage Bumrah is better than him, but you would still back your own player no matter what. Babar could have ruined his relationship with Naseem if he had preferred Bumrah over him.

Haha Babar would have ruined his relationship with the whole country if he had named Bumrah. :ROFLMAO:

Reactions: IAJ
Kept hyping Naseem as a better bowler than Bumrah in a super-over scenario but when the time came, opted to go with Amir. Either this statement was pathetic or the decision to let Amir bowl that over was pathetic.

I think both of these things were pathetic. Naseem over bumrah? LOL
Amir was tired after that 19th over, you had a fresh bowler in Naseem waiting in the dugout but made a wrong choice and lost the game. Another addition to many wrong decisions made by Babar

Babar azam reaction on this statement "I have not fooled anyone but fools have made me the cuptaN"

Aamir was tired after bowling 4 overs? Not good signs for Pakistan cricket.

If he believed in Naseem so much, why not bowl him in that super over when our lives depended on it?

Then why didn't he give the last over to Naseem Shah instead of Haris Rauf against the USA

Apparently it was Kirsten’s call on the super over

He got this wrong. I am shocked he couldn’t read the game better.

I don’t blame Babar for the statement he made but he didn’t follow through during super over.

As per Babar ‘s decisions and words:

Amir>Naseem>Bumrah

And result is here . Pakistan was out of the world T20 due to poor decisions to Bowl super over and india won the World T20.

They must not have asked this question to Babar. He has every right to back the player of his team as he is the captain. Also no comparison works between players of different teams. As another point Naseem is a class player and he has made contributions with ball as well as bat.

Like his captaincy got humiliated here as well, Bumrah got player of the tournament and if not for Kohli PR etc Bumrah was actually the MOM

He's the captain of the side. He's got to have his own young player's back . Nothing wrong with what Babar said

Actually Babar is a smart captain who understands the capability of different resources and the need for relevant resource at relevant situation. Yes if 10 runs are to be defended of course Naseem is best option. He knows Bumrah is to be used when 10 runs are to be defended of 3 overs. Why use a tank where a rifle can do the job.

ask this question again to babar now... hopefully he must have changed his mind.
You ask him whom he'll pick between Rohit Sharma and Fakhar Zaman if 20 runs are needed off the last over, he'll possibly pick Fakhar Zaman. He has to back up his players publicly.

Coming to the topic, there is no bowler in international cricket whom I'll pick ahead of Bumrah in either of the 3 formats in any situation. I had my doubts when he underwent surgery on his back and was out of action for a long time. But those doubts are gone now.

Even if they asked whether you would rather have Hasan Ali or Bumrah the right answer is Hasan Ali. You’re supposed to back your teammates.

Babar haters stay mad. :hasan2

Not a fan of Babar's leadership but this was a fair answer.

Captains will always back their players.

Captain is backing his player, what's wrong?

I remember Rohit backing Bumrah over Amir when former was very new, to get public support from a captain or senior should do the youngster's confidence a world of good.

There’s a difference once the players have already retired versus when you’re talking about current players.

In my opinion, you should always back your current squad in public. If you want to criticize them, criticize them in private. A captain saying that he believes in his bowler more than even the best bowler in the world is going to give him confidence.
This is NOT how you back your young players. Putting them ahead great bowlers without achieving anything puts both added pressure on them and gives false egos.

If this question was asked of Cummins or Rohit or any other captain the answer would be something like - he is very talented but let's not compare him with other bowlers at this early stage of his career, let him be Naseem for some more time and not put pressure on him.

This is the biggest reason pakistani bowlers don't last at all, 1) the overhype give them big egos and they stop working hard, 2) the added pressure of being compared to greats so early means they cannot be themselves early in their career and fall apart, the expectations to perform like legends cause their downfall.

Yet despite so many bowlers falling victim to this, Pak captains and fans haven't learned their lessons yet.

Babar would get lynched if he named Bumrah over Naseem or one of his own bowlers (zameen asmaan ka furak hai dono mei)

I agree with people who said Babar HAS TO back his team mates.
Again, you guys dont seem to understand the difference between backing team mates and saying outright lies which will hurt them

Naseem is a very good bowler who will do well, lets not compare him with anyone so early in his career - this is backing him

Naseem is better than Bumrah - this is an outright lie and the bowler knows it too, it just puts pressure on him and also inflates his ego.

Even after losing so many talented young bowlers to ego and pressure you guys still didnt learn your lesson. Keep doing this and wonder why Afridi, Naseem all lose their way.

are you saying this one particular Babar opinion destroyed Naseem's career? :afridi

Are you saying if he had backed Burmah... Naseem would now be a world class bowler? Are you a comedian?

I am saying that this attitude of over hyping your bowlers, every single time, in every single place, destroys your youngsters. In current generation, you did it with Afridi, did it with Rauf, did it with Naseem.

Babar's statement is a symptom, not the cause.

And why do I need to do any comedy myself when Pakistan fast bowling is right there?

It was a really stupid question. If Babar says Bumrah, it will seem like he does not believe in his own players. If he said Naseem, he will seem delusional. Bumrah is a far better player than Naseem but the question was just there to create unnecessary clicks and views.

Other captains handle such questions all the time and give answers like the one I suggested.
