Chasing 373 to win, Pakistan end Day 4 of the 1st Test against New Zealand on 71/3

After seeing the current batting display Misbah is making a quick call for Shafiq to come in for the next match.

“He will shore up the middle order and make sure we level the series 1-1”.

No Babar in the t20 lineup is nowhere near as discouraging as no Babar in the test lineup..

Genuine question, you think he's really ready?

Hell no. But he will probably put more of a price on his wicket than Shan Masood. Might even play a few shots in the process and not hang his bat out there as if he is putting clothes in a washing machine

But 36 all-out happens only if every single thing goes in one team's favor. You nick all balls and the opposition catches all of them. Even half-chance gets you a wicket. Clearly, you are not going to see 36 all-out despite poor batting units.

I wanted to simply see some fight from Pakistan. Not fight like 60/5 and then put 100 runs, because by then match is pretty much done. Putting 150/2 would have been great to watch given NZ had given plenty of overs to get 230 runs on flat pitch. Win or lose, just play some good cricket in series.

I agree wholeheartedly. Obviously (or not), my previous comments were tongue-in-cheek, a coping mechanism which provides catharsis when you're a Pakistani cricket fan. :ssmith

Ravi Shastri says Hi!

Do not care about it. Firmly believe that one needs to have their own house in order before looking at external comparisons. Have avoided posting serious content today on this thread as the performance has been a joke. Likely to keep it like that.

Only if Hafeez partners Akmal to open. Guess which Akmal though? ;)

Rana saab said, it was a dead wicket and I told him, wait till Pak batsmen come to play and they will show the hidden demons in this pitch. lol

Bro the question is about swing. The track will still probably be as dead but the swing is something that is in the control of a bowler to execute. Why can’t we produce a single bowler who actually swings it at this pace of 130? Even Deepak Chahar would be like Glen McGrath for us if he were a Pakistani! He knows how to swing the ball better than 100% of Pakistan’s bowlers

I feel like at this point it's a lose-lose whatever Pak do. Play Abdullah, and then his confidence will be shattered by NZ bowlers. Play the same XI, Shan, Abid, Azhar, Haris, Fawad (or a majority of them) score sub-par fifties, they'll get the full home series vs SA and the test team will just give them longer ropes. I don't like to cheer against Pak ever but honestly speaking low-key, it's for the best if most of these senior 'pros' fail in this game and the next. I'll eat my words if these guys turn up from here on out.

Shan "Parchi" Masood, the greatest hard worker and the fittest player in this entire team has yet to play a few solid shots.
I think about 80% of his runs come from edges that flew pass the slip area.

The bolded part in your post is exactly why I want him to do good consistently. Unfortunately, despite all that, he's still just not good enough.

Play Abdullah and just let the guy learn on the job man. Just like all the hard grafters in a poor country like Pakistan. There is no luxurious system to go back to and learn the trade of how to bat in New Zealand or Australia. How do you expect the Pakistan domestic, coaching system to teach him this when he would probably be averaging 50-60 runs playing 1-2 seasons at home.

All of this stuff about Domestic is the learning hub seems to be pointless. These guys are on their own I’m afraid.

Depends. Did you see KW bat? Have you seen MoYo bat in ENG?

Being able to play with soft hands and being able to cushion the bounce, (by leaning on it almost) and making impact behind the crease allow one to actually be in control in the 3rd man region. Things do not carry.

If Shan were scoring through the region like that there would be no problem. He’s actually edging it. Much like what I expect Haris to do.

Why can’t our guys swing the ball at all? It is the same ball that we use to the opposition?

No international bowler swings the kookaburra more than Boult. And generally kiwi bowling group swing it Korean tha any other team.

Day five will have free entry, they say on the broadcast. Up to Pakistan now to make it worth it for fans in Mount Maunganui.

Bench strength, Pakistan Shaheens 91 all out against Wellington.

THIS is major part of the problem.

The standard of our domestic cricket is simply not good enough to match with the standard of domestic cricket of other good teams.

We simply produce khoti carts to be sent to compete in Ferrari races.

And then one odd potentially talented kid that we produce and fast track into the national side, gets slaughtered by the coaches in the national team.

It pretty much covers up the entire story of modern day Pakistan cricket setup.

Depends!!! NZ main team lost 9 out of 10 ODI matches against Bangladesh. Any team can loose to local teams.

Rayyman, if Haris plays a legendary innings to save this Test, like you think he will, I’ll eat my words and back him in ODIs too until 2023.

Otherwise, you agree he needs to be dropped across all formats starting tomorrow. Deal?

Harris already signaling for water after running a couple and a three.

As I said before, he should be locked in jail, and forced to run 20 miles daily with JUST ONE low calorie small portion meal a day with plenty of water.

This is the only way, he will lose some weight and build some stamina.

Azam Khan should be made witness of this regime and should be told to get ready.

These guys are just not smart enough to take care of their own selves.

Why would a batsman show his bat to the umpire to suggest he nicked the ball before hitting the pads. Let the opposition use up their review!! Such a school boy thing to do.

One big partnership and a lot of people will be left shocked. 377 is a big score but no where near out of reach.

Saud Shakeel , Usman Sallahuddin should have been a permanent part of pakistan Team by now.

Yea, but only if Saud Shakeel replaces him.

Now watch him get out for 45 :mv

Lol this is seriously the only way some pak players have a chance of being fit

No joy to watch these guys bat. Blocking away for nothing. As we saw in 1st innings being positive is the way to go on this pitch. Blocking will dry up runs and bring wkts

That is Misbah ul Haqs legacy for you

Not sure how this became a thing. As far as Test cricket is concerned Haris’ only contribution I can recall are soft 30s scored in ENG in 2018.

He did not tour SAF and was woefully exposed in AUS. His 30s in ENG had a fair share of streaky runs between 3rd/4th slip and gully. I was hoping that he would have toured SAF and then ENG this year to have this myth put to bed for good.

Before I get on to the topic of weight, injuries, attitude and presence/body language - isn’t his technique quite transparent in the sense that he plays far away from the body and is liable to not just nick the ball in the event of bounce/movement, but also to play his drives in the air?

Look, PP has enough smart people. Really hoping this guy can “prove me wrong” or whatever that means. A soft 50 (stroked through the slip cordon) will not do. If he has any mettle, will need to score big and show us what this talent is.

Posted the above earlier today (which is an excerpt from the full post) on Haris Sohail.

The guy does not have technique to fashion a career without playing his drives in the air.

This guy, Southee, has become a Hadlee in last 3 years. That's why age is not a correct parameter for predicting performances.

Is that the last we'll see of Haris in tests?

I genuinely hope so. I fail to understand how PP stalwarts have been bumping this guy as one THE MOST talented batsmen in PAK. If this is indeed true, think we need to PAK our bags and the URL needs to be put on sale.

Haris Sohail does not make the cut for test cricket. Hard hands, reaching for the ball and bad fitness all are poor signs for a test batsman. He should concentrate on his fitness for ODIs because he won't make into the T20 side as well. Babar should definitely replace Haris for 2nd Test as he is the weakest link.

He's never convinced me in tests. Can't bat long and can't grit it out.

Wagner bowling with two fractured toes? Insane. What dedication.

And then we have Amir: “I retire because Waqar said a thing about me”
