Haris Rauf at a media talk today:

I am thankful to Allah for being selected for my country. Performing in BBL is very different to performing for your country and the feeling is different. I will try to do as well as I can for my country.

Whenever you perform on any stage, your performance is given recognition. I was performing and I had an idea that my name might come up for the Bangladesh series.

I played professional cricket with tape ball in Pakistan but when I was selected after the trials, I gave up tape ball cricket. It's been 2 years now with hard ball cricket, I was playing well and now I am about to represent Pakistan. I am hopeful of performing well in future too.

When you come into the team, you want to serve your country for a long time and make a name for yourself and your country. I want to represent Pakistan in all three formats. I'm getting a start in T20Is, insha'Allah going forward if I get chances in ODIs and Tests, I will do well for my country.

Playing in leagues vs country are different things. Playing at home with your own crowd will boost me up and I won't take pressure, I will take it as a positive thing and try to perform well.

Musa and Hasnain have played a couple of series so they already have a bit of an idea of how to play international cricket. I played domestic cricket with them for a couple of years so there isn't much pressure on me. I have confidence that when I get a chance, I will utilise them and give my 100%.

It's a home series and I feel proud that I will make my debut at home. Insha'Allah we will try to win the series, my target is to be the best bowler of the series. I have a chance, I will give my 100% and I will try to perform for my country as I have done in the BBL.

I did a celebration in Australia but I felt it was wrong and people there thought it was wrong so in the next match, I apologised for my mistake and changed to adaab in typical Pakistani style.

It's the dream for every player to represent his country and play for the star. I have a chance for that now and the happiness for that is something different.

I was with Aqib bhai for 2 years and now I have a chance to work with Waqar bhai. Aqib bhai is a legend and so is Waqar bhai, I will try to learn from them. The way I do death bowling with reversing yorkers, Waqar bhai used to do that really well. He had control on his reverse so I will try to perfect that when I work with him and I am hopeful I will learn a lot.

I was selected in LQ trials and then I found out about my speed. When I was bowling 140+, I focused on speed because if you are bowling 140+ in Pakistan, you won't be neglected. I wanted to bowl at an average of 140+ in PSL and whenever I train, I try to maintain my pace and I have worked on my fitness and train hard. I touched 150 in BBL but I wasn't thinking about, I just want to bowl as fast as I can but I want to make sure I stay 140+ on average consistently.

In BBL, you can have 2 overseas players in the playing XI so most of the domestic players get chances. It's a very good thing for them to play at that level similar to international level and they get to handle pressure. Similarly in Pakistan, when players come to LQ or any franchise, they get exposure and confidence increases. This mindset helps players to be ready for international cricket in advance.

Fast-bowlers do get injured because you have to put in a lot of effort in training and in the ground. If you train well, I don't think you will get injured.

When my name came up, it was a big moment, I was very happy and thankful for my parent's prayers. They were very happy and making your parents happy makes you happy as well.

Amir and Wahab aren't there but Shaheen has some experience and I played with him in PSL and we made a good combination.

When you go into the ground and see the match situation, you bowl according to that so I haven't set any targets as such.

I wasn't disheartened after not being picked after PSL. I wasn't perhaps that fit at that time but my target was and is the T20 World Cup. If you keep performing, I don't think you should be upset, you should wait for your chance and give your 100%.

Wants to play Test cricket but doesn’t want to play domestic first-class cricket.

Okay.

Few things are cheaper than a Pakistan cap these days. If the likes of Shadab, Musa, Faheem etc. can call themselves “Test cricketers”, then I wouldn’t put it beyond PCB to give Haris Rauf a Test cap with a grand total of 3 first-class wickets under his belt.

Okay.
Since you are clearly privvy to his thoughts, mind telling us how he is feeling ahead of his inevitable debut on Friday?

According to whom?

Weren’t there rumors around a year or so back that he is not interested in playing first-class cricket etc. and his priority is T20 cricket?

I read about it on PP, but can’t seem to find the link to the thread/interview whatever.

In any case, he should not be picked for Tests without substantial first-class experience.

I am going by the rumors that circulated on PP last year over how he is not interested in playing first-class cricket and wants to focus on T20s.

I am surprised that you didn’t hear about those rumors. I think they were around the time when you were having the time of your life after the Asia Cup 2018.

So you hate everything Pakistan but like a typical pakistani aunty you will take this so called rumour and believe it blindly without any verification from authentic source.

I see how Asia Cup has become such an important tournament for you quite recently. You must be impatiently awaiting the upcoming one, and disregard it completely as a useless tournament if Pakistan does well in it :yk

Coming back to the topic, you seem to have a selective strategy for believing rumors. Haris recently came out in an interview and categorically stated he wants to play all formats.

I thought you don't go by rumors... Show the actual proof if you have one.

There is no smoke without fire. This rumor was exclusively regarding Haris Rauf so it is naive to believe that it had no legs.

Moreover, I have no faith in the credibility of Pakistani players so I believe this rumor. If he has a change of heart now and has come to his senses, good for him. However, he needs to perform in first-class cricket before he gets fast-tracked.

Weak. Alas, you seem to have a selective strategy when it comes to having 'faith' in sources.

Good material for the next time you comment on a rumor, specially when it's regarding our neighbours :salute

Maybe Rauf delivering the message to Amir that he is available to serve his country in all 3 formats or the supposed message deilvered to Amir by PCB is well received by Haris. :afridi

Haris needs to take it step by step. Needs to show how he handles international cricket in T20s first.

Haris Rauf sits with Hasan Ali for an exclusive chat

Lahore, 21 January 2020:

Haris Rauf has had a meteoric rise since he appeared in Lahore Qalandars’ trials in Gujranwala two years ago. The right-arm pacer has since gained admirers wherever he has played.

He recently made headlines during his stint in the Big Bash League, while turning out for Melbourne Stars, and used the opportunity to stake a claim in the Pakistan national men’s team.

“With the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia, I wanted to put up impressive performances and prove myself in the BBL as I knew they will get me selected in the national side,” Haris told Hasan Ali in an interview after joining the Pakistan team’s camp.

He rose to prominence for delivering the fastest ball in those trials. Because of his ability to touch 150kmph mark, Haris has been given a nickname of “150” by his teammates.

“Nobody calls me Haris in the Northern team,” chuckles Haris, “everyone refers to me as 150 and I even write 150 in my autographs.”

Haris lighted up the ongoing BBL with probing spells which not only brought his quick pace in the limelight, but also his ability to use variations at crucial junctures of a match something that his hattrick against Sydney Thunder encapsulated.

He picked up first two wickets on the balls which stayed in mid-120kmphs before unleashing a 145kmph delivery that thudded on Daniel Sams pads to trap him LBW.

He was the second leading wicket-taker in the BBL with 16 wickets in seven matches at an average of 11.56 when he was named in the Pakistan side for a three-match T20I series which begins later this week. For his extraordinary run in the tournament, Haris earned praises of legendary cricketers, including Waqar Younis, former Pakistan Test captain and current bowling coach.

“Waqar bhai was in touch with me and he used to encourage me to work hard,” Haris said. “It is always heartening to hear legendary players praise your performances and it gives you more confidence in your abilities.

“I had that thought in my mind that if I continue to perform I might get selected for the national side. I knew that I had to bowl above 140kmph to get selected for the Pakistan side as quick bowlers get the recognition.

In Dale Steyn, Haris had an idol in the Melbourne Stars camp and he made the most of his presence by spending time with him during net sessions.

“I was extremely delighted to know that I was going to play with Dale Steyn as he is my idol,” he said. “Sharing the dressing room with him helped me a great deal as I got to work on my outswing with him. We had a couple of net sessions in which he taught me how to control it.”

Originally signed as the South African pacer’s replacement, Haris was retained for the whole tournament after an injury to Pat Brown. Whether he was under any pressure while replacing his favourite pacer? “There was no such pressure; in fact it was a proud moment for me that I was replacing my idol. I wanted to fill in his shoes and bring out the performances which the team had expected from him.”

Haris now has his eyes set on Pakistan debut and wishes to make it a “memorable one”. “I will put my hundred per cent,” he said.

Not so fast.

He huffs and puffs after bowling 4 T20 overs.

Needs to play a couple of full first class seasons, at minimum, to be considered for Tests/ODIs. Provided he does well there and proves his endurance.

Gosh!!!!!! You do realise that there is more to life then just being negative all the time. I mean you never ever post anything positive and I am not one of those who would blindly praise the team or turn a blind eye when things aren't right either but there is absolutely no need to reply for the sake of it. Senseless posts from you almost makes me not go through the comments at all. Give your wrists a rest ... At least every now and then

Why follow Pakistan cricket if you don't have "faith in their credibility". To be honest the team can do with a fan less of your stature that is if you are one!? I have heard a rumor that you are the BCB chairman enacting like mamoon and since there is no smoke without fire, I will believe that to Nazmul

Fair enough. Think we should restrict him to limited overs cricket as we may loose the real Haris Rauf by trying to turn him into a test cricketer.
