A bizarre mix-up occurred in Lahore before the Australia vs. England Champions Trophy clash on February 22, as the Indian national anthem was mistakenly played instead of Australia’s. The unexpected error surprised both the Australian players and the Gaddafi Stadium crowd. Realizing the mistake, officials quickly halted the anthem and corrected it by playing Advance Australia Fair. The confusion was even more unusual given that India is not scheduled to play in Lahore, as they opted out of traveling to Pakistan. As a result, a hybrid model was adopted, with India set to play all their matches in Dubai.

PCB demands ICC’s explanation after India’s national anthem plays before Australia-England Champions match

Left red-faced after India's national anthem played for a fraction of a second at the start of the Australia-England Champions Trophy match in Lahore on Saturday (February 22, 2025), the Pakistan Cricket Board has blamed the ICC for the fiasco and demanded an explanation from the world body.

At the start of the game when the two teams lined up for their national anthems, the spectators were left surprised as the Indian national anthem played for a second before being stopped.

A source close to the ICC confirmed that the PCB had sent a letter to the governing body outlining the incident and demanding an explanation.

"The PCB has made it clear that the ICC needs to offer some explanation as their people are responsible for the (national anthem) playlist of teams in the Champions Trophy.

"Since India is not playing in Pakistan, it is hard to understand how their anthem was played by mistake from the playlist," the source said.

India had refused to travel to Pakistan citing security concerns and are playing their share of Champions Trophy games in Dubai. The traditional rivals are due to clash on Sunday in a crucial match a loss in which will knock Pakistan out of the tournament.

The PCB had earlier also written to the ICC about its name logo not being displayed on television screens when India played Bangladesh in Dubai on Friday.

The ICC then assured the PCB that it was a mistake and all matches in Dubai will use the three-line horizontal logo with Pakistan's name.

I wouldn't be surprosed if these mishaps (logo issue and anthem issue) from ICC are delibarate. :inti

Petty BCCICC.

PCB needs to stop crying and be grateful they are getting to host 90% of the ICC event in Pakistan.

PCB needs to use this opportunity as a stepping stone for future ICC events.

No one likes a crying whining loser

I understand what happened.

The Audio guy opened up the Folder for all teams National Anthem and as he was searching for the Australian anthem mp3 file he accidentally clicked the Indian anthem mp3 file. But he soon closed it and played the correct file.

Has there ever been a time when an Indian journalist wrote a positive article about the Champions Trophy? :ibutt

No one is writing letters in the middle of a game.

PCB Chairman during a media interaction at Dubai Stadium, when asked about the Indian national anthem being played during the match in Lahore:

"That is being organized by the ICC. But from our side, Pakistan has released 22 Indian fishermen today."

This is being hosted by ICC, ICC has been handed over the stadiums etc, so it was their cook up not PCB

Hahaha Chad Naqvi, btw this thread has 90% indian posters. My first on PP. Latch onto any negative news about CT. Truly desperate behavior.

Indians trying to show bravado over Indian anthem but then go crying when the Indian flag isn't displayed in the stadium.

Someone on the sound desk is Indian or Indian origin
Most of the production team is Indian. Knowning how some educated posters from India are so bitter and seething, i wont put it past bunch of guys from production team deliberately pulling up these stunts.

In Pakistan Nzland match, the sound mixing was off.

Then they took the Pakistan name off the logo in the match against India.

Now this stunt of national anthem.

Yes.

It seems like these are deliberate as we can see a pattern.

Quite obvious its been done deliberately with Jay Shah at ICC helm. First the Champions Trophy logo, and then playing a country's national anthem which isn't anyway near in the country for a game.

Nothing to with it being in Dubai, this was deliberately messed up by the broadcasters. Star sports employees are doing some dirty tricks here and there whenever they can. Thats why Indian influence on world cricket is so terrible. Their lack of professionalism and their inability to see beyond politics is damning.

Agree.

They have tarnished this beautiful sport with their obnoxiousness and pettiness.

I miss cricket from pre-BCCI days.

@Slim bro you are getting carried away for no reason. I just watched the video in OP and my intellectual mind says it was a genuine mistake. Its just a case of someone pressed the wrong tape. :kp

The production team making constant mistakes? Lets see if this is the last one. If it is, then you are right.

What difference is it to you? Your team couldn’t win then, it can’t win now. Thirty years and still not even past square 1.

Let's assume that this is true. Why is nothing being done? This is not something new. Has been ongoing for a couple of decades. In this time, no one has done anything to change the status quo.

None of the boards, or the ICC want to take any steps to bring about change. They want the BCCI to change instead. Even on this forum, for the longest time it has only been suggested that the BCCI change. Barely any threads on ICC needs to change or the boards need change, become self sufficient, etc.

There was a golden opportunity that presented itself to the ICC to change directions. The whole BCCI-CT drama. There was a solution right at their finger tips. Say bye bye to BCCI and hello SL. But no. They wanted Ind. to play. Get India in. Get India in.

When you do not pickup and implement the solutions right in front of you, then the complaints and questions are and should be for you (ICC, rest of the boards). Not the BCCI.

Instead BCCI is expected to change itself. Why would they. They are getting what they want. In the real world, no one changes when they are getting what they want. Does not work that way.

ICC and the boards are IT. They have to change things so BCCI influence is diminished. Are they up for it?

Can be easily brought back. The ICC and the rest of the boards need to have the willingness and drive to do it. Do they?

Want to see in the coming years reunification of Pakistan with India and Bangladesh as one nation
