New Zealand strongly placed on 286/3 at Stumps on Day 2 of the 2nd Test against Pakistan

Inability of Nasim Shah to deliver as the x factor has hurt us badly in this series

Misbah is so stubborn that he keeps persisting with him no matter the cost.

Even a trundler like Sohail with that swing would have been more useful in the UK and NZ compared a clueless Naseem.

I feel like Naseem started off his international career way too early. He is extremely raw.

Shaheen has next to no plans on how to get batsmen out. He’s never demonstrated any ability to set up a batsman across a series of overs, instead he purely relies on trying to get in-swing and hoping for a mistake. I never understood why he’s rated as Test class when he’s not really much better than Naseem.

Guessing Rizwan never came up to the stumps to Abbas. And from the comments it seems like there was also a wicket off a no ball and Naseem’s pace is “back to normal”.

Would be very interesting to ask Waqar what is going on here. Last time he got asked a difficult question about not playing Sarfraz in CWC15, apparently he walked out of the presser. 4 world-class fast bowlers is what he promised, right?

Shaheen is not that great in Test. He is brilliant in LOI though.

Somebody tell Williamson getting out is also part of the game, which he should practice sometimes.

This bowling is minnow level, and we know he efficient Williamson is against minnow attacks. He is Bradman against them, especially at home.

If he doesn’t get 150+ he should be kicking himself.

Nicholls has the line covered and is playing well outside his crease. Negating a decent chance of LBW and playing well in his comfort zone.

Poor from Rizwan.

If our fast bowlers cant even decently perform on this pitch they are just plain garbage

Third slip taken out for Williamson and where does the ball go? Genuine edge to where third slip would have been

This partnership is now worth 101 runs.

Nicholls is quite underrated. He often chips in with vital runs.

Ur new ball bowlers and new ball batsmen are all inept.
Only miracles can make such a team win test matches.

Yesterday people were coming down on me when I said that 300 was not some amazing score since while the pitch is supportive to bowlers, it has no real demons and competent batsmen should be able to do wel. We can clearly see that today

Ken’s record was poor here - he was bound to rectify that one day, but this is probably best I have seen him this summer - cool, calm, composed; man with a mission.

Very much like last time, there do not seem to be any bespoke plans on a bowler-batsman level.

When things dry up and the original plan fails, PAK seem to have no clue as to where to bowl and how to try and get batsmen out on the basis of scoring areas.

Quite poor from PAK here and Rizwan’s apparent lack of confidence in his ability to come up to the stumps does not help. PAK still playing on the basis of “momentum” / “flashes of brilliance” and things like wickets off no balls suck most of that out.

Probably Naseem’s last test match for a while. I would not be surprised if the kid goes to play domestics and comes back an LOI only bowler.

Wasn’t it obvious- PAK recovered from 86/4 and Kiwis put PAK in after winning all three Tests is this summer batting first. Faheem actually bowled exceptionally well otherwise by now PAK would have been short of options.

You mean journey man by private jet ...... Will is undoubtedly the best batsman in world now - that pull was Gordon Grineedgeisque ...

Rubbish bowling and poor captaincy also help.

Ohh yes that was clearly a 100 runs short. Batsmen getting set and then getting out is criminal. By our standards anything between 30-70 by an individual is a great score and both fans and players celebrate suc knocks.
Williamson gonna produce another knock in this match as a lesson for our players

It is a pretty good square actually. Great for stroke making if you can pick the right deliveries. A lot of the swing that was making it appear difficult was after the ball had crossed the bat.

Something between 350-400 would be a more competitive total but I think when we said our total is decent we meant that given we have vacant spots at 1,2 and 4 with an obscenely long tail, we have still managed to post something.

We had them at 70/3 or something so the fault lies with us for not capitalising and instead allowing them to run amok. Do not have the bowlers or the ability to do anything substantial here unfortunately and our indiscipline cost us (no ball).

At 70/4 for four this post of your wouldn't even exist, they could easily be 150/8 by now. Cricket is a funny game bro.

Rubbish bowling and poor captaincy also help.

Bowling was good to be honest - any other day it could have been 6/7 down by now. Just like yesterday ball moved or bounced too much. But Ken played a perfect innings so far.

Rizwan’s only mistake could be over using Naseem when runs were hard to come. Using Shan, Haris is for over rate - otherwise SAF will reap the benefits

Mamoon I don't know why you are always active when Pakistan seems to be doing bad and in good to times you're no where to be found

Just an observation...

How this trash has been scoring so many runs this summer is beyond me.

Dismissed off a no ball here and was dropped like 4 times in that innings against WI in the 2nd test.

M afraid its not too funnny or unpredictable with our bowlers anymore. One can easily predict they'll produce only one or two good sessions in entire series nothing more

Remember guys - if it were Yasir, by now he would have bowled 15-16 overs....may be more.

Good that Zafar is bowling to Nicholls. We can try out somethings here.

Can we not put in a leg slip and short leg and bowl straight to him preferably around the wicket. This should cut off his scoring areas and the natural shot, glance off his pads, will make him think of the leg slip. Even if the ball does not turn or grip, it may help unsettle him as he will also not able to attempt the paddle sweep.

Basically, the mirror image of an off-spinner to a right hand bat to try and cut off some scoring areas. Will need a man on 45 and a square leg to make him take some risk to clear the in-field.

Jeff Thomson into the attack. Pace like fire and huge banana reverse swing balls.

But mostly 130kph no balls.

Wow I can think of many words to describe Naseem's bowling right now and none of them are good.

Never thought I would see a bigger no-ball machine than Dilhara Fernando.

Naseem has bowled 16 of the 19 no balls for Pakistan.
Test cricket is brutal and will expose you, at every level like Virat found out in 2012 tour.
Naseem needs lots of mental strength and some good mentor to go forward.
He looks stiff and bowling 133 only. He vas very sharp and quick in Australia.
Something is not right. Is Waqar over working him in fitness drills

I think, Wasim & this WIN guy Gabriel were/are worse , but one is like 6’3”, other one 6’5”

Speaking of Gabriel, imagine the worth of a fast bowler like him to this Pakistan side. Forget Wasim.

If this Naseem guy is indeed the second coming of Fred Trueman, I think it sums up the standard of batting in the 1950s and 60s.

So Misbah selected some random "teenagers" for test cricket without/very little FC experience. Didn't even try them in T20Is, straight to test cricket. Well, at least some fans got their wish. Now enjoy.

Fast tracking these kids to the international side is not working. Pakistan need to pick players from the domestic circuit.

Got a bit carried away with the carry of the track - trying too hard. Also, the hype is putting extra pressure on him. At this rate he’ll loose interest in Test cricket and focus on T20

Not sure about over-working but certainly the only young fast-bowler who grimaces after getting wickets. Instead of smelling blood and going for the kill just seems to be relieved at his scraps. During the ENG tour and after it, has not looked like he wants to be out there.

Waqar is too stubborn to correct his mistakes. If Waqar has said publicly that Naseem will bowl as a fast bowler in Tests then regardless of everyone (including Waqar) realising that NS is very limited, he will persist with him and cost PAK. Pretty much routine from Waqar’s playbook.

Man, Shaheen must be kicking himself for that Nicholls no ball. Also, regardless of match situation and assuming Pakistan bowl again, Naseem would legit need a 5 wicket haul to maintain his place in the side. I'm a fan of him but his lack of FC experience is seriously showing here.

Naseem se toh acha tha mujhay lei jatay... nahin meiney koi world record ya stage nhin set karna tha.... meri bhi NZ ki sair ho jaati...

Sameen gul is 21. 24 fc matches averages 18 with 91 wickets, perfect time for him to debut

That body language shows it. Rizwan was walking back and not making eye contact with Naseem.

Someone else asked for it to be taken. Shows what Rizwan is thinking of Naseem right now.

This is what happens when you fast track players into the national team, it is always a gamble and can put young careers on line.

Test runs should not be gifted away so easily. Pakistan had a good first session and good start to the post lunch session but the last couple of hours have been really horrible. NZ are racing away towards Pakistan's first innings total. I thought 297 was a good score on this wicket.

I don't blame Naseem and Shaheen, as both showed some glimpse of their talent in FC cricket. They had the potential, but are turning out to be mediocre at international level in Test cricket. We should look to other proven performers in FC cricket for the South Africa series. Shaheen should only play LOIs for now.

Probably the most ridiculous review I have ever seen being taken in an international match...
