[VIDEO/PICTURES] Mayank Yadav, another speed gun from India a.k.a The New Delhi Express

OK. Arshdeep Singh then ? Which express bowler do you want to compare him with ?

Haris Rauf ?

Arshdeep has a lower bowling average than Rauf in both T20Is and ODIs.
Does Haris Rauf play for India lol? I was comparing trundlers like Mukesh Kumar with Mayank and Umran. You are in a different universe today. Point is what is the use of these things express fast bowlers if guys like Mukesh Kumar are going to represent India? It seems you just jump into conversations without having any idea about what it is lol. :inti

True. I don't why we compare our bowlers to such a rubbish attack with guys like Haris Rauf who gets smashed to the stands faster than he can bowl.

The World Cup exposed the gap between our bowlers and Pakistan's.

Proper lollypop bowlers.
Which World Cup. I don't remember.

Sushil Kumar won 2 olympic medals being a veggie, I know you wouldnt dare mock him infront of his face

You seem to have a problem in comprehending english, we can talk in Hindi if you mere bhai
So what does that prove? That only vegetarian wrestlers succeed lol? Post statistics if you want.

You are trying too hard to come across as an Oxford wannabe here. At least check before posting lol. :inti

Regardless of what pace he bowls at, Mayank is a really good bowler.

Good lines and is not wayward like a lot of bowlers are while bowling at that pace.

Let him eat pork or beef or whatever . If he continues to be veggie , that's fine too as long as he is taking enough supplements.

It's harder on a vegetarian diet but not impossible.

And where did I say I want Mayank to fail? You have serious comprehension issues and then you have the audacity to question other's vocabulary lol? I had high hopes from Khaleel and Umran too both of them turned out to be big disappointments. It has nothing to do with being a hindu player. It is just your brain which has been whitewashed by WhatsApp University lecturers.

And there were 100 guys before you who said 'main bhaagne wala nahi'. They all ran away, I am still here. :inti

And calling me an andhbhakt when I massively dislike modi and would never even think of voting for the BJP is so cute and funny

Looks like members of AIMIM's IT cell need to update themselves

And to your last point, well tbf lost of people have jobs and families

Most wrestlers are meat eaters, no disagreement from me but lots are padosi posters use it as a veiled, bigoted shot at Hinduism

Me personally though love eating every kind of meat, I hate hardcore veggies like gujjus who want to ban non-veg everywhere, vegetarianism just doesn't appeal to me at all

but punjab despite being one of our most veggie states and one of the highest levels of protein intake. You can have non meat based diet and still have a healthy protein intake. Only those unaware of diet and nutrition would say otherwise

Mayank Yadav is keeping himself grounded and is just happy with the fact that he can showcase his abilities on the big stage. During an interview with a local Indian media outlet, he says:

“I have one goal and that is to play for the country, and I want to serve as long as I can for my country. For now, I have no expectations of what will happen after the IPL; and there are people talking about the T20 World Cup [selection] and other series, but I have no such big expectations,”

“I think it is my natural ability that I can generate this much pace; and you can push your natural ability to a limit, after that hard work is very necessary. I was blessed that I found people around me who were very helpful. They helped me a lot during my initial days.”

“I could not understand at that time because all my focus was on the match. After the match, 2-3 players told me about and then I realized that my speed was better than the last match.”

“I do not like if someone hits me for boundaries. My goal is, how big a batter it may be, I want to dominate them. And it’s not just now, it’s been like that since my childhood. I like creating pressure and I want to dominate every single time.”

“It was always clear that if I want to do something, I want to do fast bowling. My inspiration and idol are both the same – Dale Steyn. He is the only bowler whom I find had everything as a fast bowler – Pace, Action, Run-up, Skill."

“Last year, I had an injury. I felt bad for a few days but I was not worried about myself. [Was thinking of my parents] how they might not feel good. I think whatever happens, good or bad, there is something good in it for you. Because of my injury I could not play in the last season, but if I had played in that season, you never know, I might not have performed well."

“Maybe I was not prepared enough for the last season. All the preparations of the past year can be seen in this season, that is why I am performing in this season.”

“After my debut, I put pressure on myself. [I know] everyone’s expectations would be high, but now that my performance in the matches have been good, my confidence is high."

Well where is Umran Khan by the way?
Umran Malik? He is being benched by SRH management. They are using Bhuvaneswar, Natrajan and Unadkat in place. Cummins 4th seamer. Cummins can easily play him as substiitute. But hyderabad pitch and few other pitich aid the slow cutter bowlers. Hence he is being benched. Total waste of resource.

In his interview with a sports channel, Mayank shared his dream of replicating Archer’s memorable delivery against Bangladesh in the 2019 World Cup. The ball knocked over Soumya Sarkar’s off stump and sailed over the boundary rope. He said:

“Since I was young, coaches have instructed fast bowlers like me to aim for the top of the off-stump. I aspired to bowl a delivery that would strike the top of the off-stump yet still soar over the boundary for six, just as Jofra Archer did in the World Cup. I was sure I could pull off such a remarkable feat, too,”

“Cameron Green’s stumps flew toward the boundary on that delivery but landed just short of boundary the rope. It was a special delivery, as Green had hit me for a four off the previous ball.”

Did he get injured? He bowled an over with only 2 balls over 140 KPH and then walked off the field?

Hope he’s fine, it’s so hard to stay completely healthy when you’re bowling express pace. We all know the stories about how much damage Akhtar’s knees endured.

damn - hope he is not injured , just 22 !!!

Side strain from what i heard.

Well express bowling is no joke. He has already missed a whole season with torn hamstring and now he is out before even bowling 10 overs?

I tuned in to the IPL for the first time in two years solely to watch this guy, given all the hype surrounding him (7 pages in a few days), only for him to bowl just one over while I happened to be away from the match, and then he gets injured. I think I might have jinxed him.

Anyway, that doesn't matter now. I probably won't be watching the IPL again, unless this forum hypes another "talented player" that's worth watching.

People think it's a joke to bowl fast consistently in all the formats. This is why bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee were special. Let these new bowlers play test cricket and bowl longer spells. Bowling 145+ in 4 overs can't be compared with test cricket.

Still remember Shoaib Akhtar bowling fast on the patta pitches of Pakistan in India vs Pak test series in 2000s. These upcoming phaasht bowlers won't be able to survive and bowl on those pitches lol. :inti

Same here, i have only seen bits of games. To watch him, I recorded his spell just to see the hype.

Yes. Bowling consistently at high pace is special. Not something many bowlers can achieve

Bowling express pace is no joke.

Even harder is sustaining it for at least a few years.

You come to respect past greats like Sohaib Akhtar when these new kids in 2024 with all the modern facilities and diets are still not able to come close to what the previous express pace bowlers did.

Akhtar took a huge toll on his body and knees. His knees were shot anyway.

He had flat feet. He needed designer shoes. But he killed himself for his country. He is a warrior.

Following his side's 33-run win over Gujarat Titans (GT), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Krunal Pandya clarified that team's pace sensation Mayank Yadav "seemed okay" after he walked off the field during the match, Post match Krunal Panyda said:

"I do not know what is happening but I did have a brief couple of seconds' chat - he seemed okay, which was quite a relief for us."

"A bright prospect, I had been watching him from the last two years. He used to bowl gun in the nets. Last year, unfortunately, missed it [due to injury]. But again, whatever conversation I have had, what I see is that he has a good head on his shoulders as well."

Former Australian pace sensation Brett Lee praised the new Indian star pacer Mayank Yadav performing in the Indian Premier League for Lucknow Super Giants. Lee while speaking to local Indian media outlet:

"Firstly it was great to see him bowl that pace. Unfortunately last night his pace went down at 135 and he went off going injured. So, I think he has got a strain maybe on the side but that happens in sports sometimes. You get injured but I am wishing him a speedy recovery and hopefully getting back and bowling fast again but to see someone from India bowling over a 150 Ks was super exciting."

"Definitely, I keep saying fast bowlers unfortunately get injured. Its part of the game I have been injured so many times playing sport but you have to take the good with the bad and you have to make sure that you take your body into a situation that you feel comfortable and you can play through pain. There is good pain and bad pain but my advice to him would be to keep doing what you are doing. Making sure that you action is as sound as possible and thats what has helped me carry through my career. I made sure I did the extra bit and work. Work on my body and the hardest thing you are doing is not the opponent that you are up against, it is your own body. So, he is only young and I don't want to put too much pressure on him. Let the guy relax. I keep saying Aaram se, aaram se, relax, take it easy. You will be fine."

Hope he gets back to full health soon. Good express pace fast bowlers are good for the entire sport of cricket. One fast spell and he managed to get the entire cricketing world’s attention.

Honestly it just shows how impressive it is that Akhtar, Lee, and Tait for able to bowl so consistently fast in Test and ODIs. Would have been awesome to see them in modern T20 where you can go all out.

Still there are posters here who think that Akhtar is/was not respected by anyone in India. :misbah :inti
Yeah I saw that other thread.

I think people are also mixing up respect with popularity/fame. Of course people will respect Wasim more because he has a more complete record, but Akhtar was as famous and as popular as any cricket player in the world when he was dueling with Brett Lee for the fastest ball in the 2000s.

Still there are posters here who think that Akhtar is/was not respected by anyone in India. :misbah :inti
Liked and respected are two different things. Akhtar is widely liked by Indians, whenever we friends talk about fast bowling, the discussion is incomplete without mentioning Akhtar. However if you say who most respected Pak cricketer in India I would say Wasim and Inzimam.

Hey i like Akhtar's raw pace. I won't compare any Indian bowler yet even if they touch a 162.1 kph because he was more consistent just like Brett Lee. This is why thread started by Major was weird. He probably was not liked as a person lke say Akram who is a super star on and off the field. A bowler has to consistently bowl fast to be talked in the same breath as Lee and Akhtar.

No bro, there might be difference of 2-3kph, but he looks very quick. He is someone who can continuously clock 147-152kph.

Yeah hes looking really good but he also needs to be very cautious and avoid picking up any injuries because his bowling action is prone to injuries.

I think for an express bowler, whatever the action he is more injury prone than normal pacers.Aktar,Lee,Tait,Rauf (who had a considerable experience) suffered more serious injuries than anyone

Liked and respected are two different things.
I think respect is like amount in a bank account.Imran, inzi, akram always maintained it through out the world.u have to eclipse all other team players to earn respect and politically correct to maintain it.

He us bowling between 145 to 156 now. Think if he plays tests he will be around 138 to 148.

This guy is injury-prone like many other fast bowlers. Until hs workload is managed intelligently, he will get injured and will be out of the scene for long. No point of him playing each game in IPL as well.

Mayank Yadav Injury Update: LSG Release Official Statement On Fast Bowler's Injury

In the aftermath of the thrilling victory against the Gujarat Titans in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), Colonel Vinod Bisht, the CEO of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), addressed concerns regarding the injury sustained by their promising pacer, Mayank Yadav. Mayank's performance had been eagerly awaited by fans, who had been impressed by his consistent pace, precision, and skill. However, during the clash with the Gujarat Titans, Mayank seemed off-color, struggling to maintain his usual speed of around 150 kmph and conceding three boundaries. After delivering just one over, Mayank left the field, citing soreness in his lower abdominal area.

"As a precautionary measure, we will be managing Mayank's workload over the next week. We hope for his swift return to the field," stated Vinod Bisht in an official announcement.

Despite his injury setback, Mayank Yadav had quickly risen to prominence in the IPL. In the match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he showcased his prowess by taking three wickets while giving away only 14 runs in his four-over spell, earning him the prestigious 'Player of the Match' award. This remarkable feat marked him as the first bowler in IPL history to achieve this accolade in his first two matches.

Mayank's extraordinary talent was further underscored by his impressive speed, clocking in at 156.7 kmph against RCB, the fastest delivery of the ongoing season and the fourth fastest in IPL history. This surpassed his previous record of 155.8 kmph, set during his debut match against the Punjab Kings, where he also exhibited his bowling prowess by claiming three wickets for 27 runs in four overs.

It wasn't just Mayank's raw pace that captivated audiences; it was also his remarkable control over line and length, coupled with his intimidating presence on the field. His back-to-back three-wicket hauls in his initial two matches propelled him into an exclusive club of players. Mayank Yadav joined the ranks of legendary bowlers such as Lasith Malinga, Amit Singh, Mayank Markande, and Jofra Archer, all of whom had also achieved this feat in their debut IPL outings.

With such a promising start to his IPL career, Mayank Yadav's emergence as the next big Indian pace prospect seems inevitable, provided he can overcome his current injury setback and continue his stellar performances on the field.

I don't think the past bowlers are built any different than current lot.

Current players play lot more cricket than past ones. So they are more prone to injury.

Send the past legends through same stress and you will get same result.

Finally someone gets it.

Akhtar is well known because he is a well known cricketer.

But respect or fan following is for people like Wasim or Imran or even Inzy.

He is 21. He body and muscles will develop over next couple of years. 24-25 will be the time when physically he will be Fully developed.

What he has to watch out is that he should not have the same injury repeatedly and that he doesn't have stress fractures.

I think respect is like amount in a bank account.Imran, inzi, akram always maintained it through out the world.u have to eclipse all other team players to earn respect and politically correct to maintain it.
True but not sure on IK, after he became PM and openly spoke against India. Haven't seen anyone praising him now in India, especially new generation.

Imran is different as a politician and cricketer. So people will respect it.Manjrekar mentioned imran more than any indian cricketer in his autobiography as a guide and leader.Among any gen , legends will be recognised albeit slowly as the time flies.

He is injury prone. Bowlers at that pace have very short careers. Goes to show that Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee are exceptions.

If he cannot bowl 4 overs in IPL without breaking down, his career will be short lived and he soon will become a line and length bowler.
Internet was going gaga over how Mayank playing in Australia will be terrorizing Aussie bats. The fact is, he will never play Test cricket if he cannot bowl 4 overs in T20's.

Same old pattern. A new bowler comes and starts bowling phaasht and you start comparing him with Akhtar/Lee endlessly only to get embarrassed in the end. Let him play test cricket first. Lee and Akhtar have played 76 and 46 tests respectively. They bowled fast from their first test till last test. :inti

I don't know how many stress fractures Lee had, but he sure was not getting injured after bowling only 4 overs. Lee was obviously bowling longer spells as there was no T20 in 90's.

Lee made his debut at 23

He has had back stress fractures and had his bowling action changed even before his test debut.

He has his stress fracture in 1994.

So injuries are common in young tearaways.

The new generation never saw him play. Even people who hate khan acknowledge the fact that he was an atg.

Imran has been mentioned by ex Indian cricketers like Ravi Shastri or Sunil Gavaskar and his stories have been told so many times that he is a legend in India.

Not sure what is this fight all about, however that is beyond the point. India has never produced any tear away fast bowler. If Mayank happen to be that guy, its cool....if not that is not a big issue. As I have said multiple times, bowling fast means nothing in this day and age unless he has control or accuracy. I am not saying Mayank doesn't have those attributes but pace alone will not make any difference.

For all those ususal suspects who keeps on saying let him play test, let him bowl fast there like Akhtar or Lee did in the past, that can't happen in modern day cricket. When Akhtar and Lee played, there used to be less matches, no T20 leagues, no T20 WCs etc. Players these days will not risk bowling fast 20 overs in tests cricket. This is applicable for all countries. Didn't Rauf, who bowl pretty fast in T20s, opted out for test cricket etc.?

As long as India winning tests and keep reaching WTC finals, I dont care if we don't have a tearaway fast bowler. Honestly, who even cares...LOL

Mayank Yadav unlikely to play LSG's next two games, team targets return for April 19 fixture

Langer and Co. is hoping that Mayank regains full fitness before the home game against Chennai Super Kings on April 19.

"That's the plan . We want him to play every game if possible," Langer said on the eve of the game against DC.

"But he'll be working towards it; he's working very hard every day to be ready for whatever our next game is. He won't play tomorrow, it's unlikely... with the very short turnaround, it's unlikely that he plays these two games. But he's certainly working towards playing whenever he possibly can."

Mayank, who became an overnight sensation by consistently bowling at 150kmph plus on his IPL debut, had gone off the field after bowling just one over against Gujarat Titans on Sunday.

"He felt a little bit of tightness at the top of his hip leading into the last game, but that was about a one-out-of-ten pain, and we thought that they were clinical signs," Langer said.

"Everything through the doctors and the physios seemed perfectly okay. He bowled that first over and started feeling something in his hip. But we had an MRI scan, and there is a very, very small swelling in there. So we are very hopeful he'll start building himself up and be back bowling again soon," added the former Australian opener.

Langer gave a fitness update on left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan, who has missed the team's last two games due to injury.

"He's out there bowling now. He had a little bit of disc flare up in his back. He and Mayank are very important to us. He's gone through all the treatment - it's really good to have an excellent medical staff. He's bowling today in the middle," he said.

"He might be available tomorrow, but more than likely - and hopefully - we'll be looking at the Kolkata game, where that extra pace will be valuable. But he's on the right path - fingers crossed," he added.

Big Update On India's 156.7 Kmph Pace Sensation Mayank Yadav's Injury. KL Rahul Says

Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Mayank Yadav had a brilliant start to his IPL career with back-to-back three-wicket hauls. Mayank's rapid pace and impeccable control made him a huge favourite among both fans as well as experts with many calling for Indian cricket team selectors to consider him for a spot in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. However, his impressive run in the competition was abruptly cut short after he picked up an injury during the match against Gujarat Titans. Mayank went on to miss the match against Delhi Capitals with a small swelling at the top of his hip.

Following Lucknow Super Giants' loss against Delhi Capitals on Friday, skipper KL Rahul was asked about Mayank's fitness and he had a major update regarding the youngster.

"Mayank is not too bad, he looks good, feeling good but we also want to make sure we don't rush him back in too early. He's young, we need to protect his body. He's itching to go, we just have to pull him back a little, maybe a couple of more games, before he comes back," Rahul said after the match.

Mayank currently holds the distinction of bowling the fastest delivery of IPL 2024 at 156.7 kmph.

As per media reports,Mayank Yadav might miss out on ICC T20I World Cup 2024 berth

Tom Moody, the former IPL-winning coach, firmly believes it would be too early to bring Mayank into the fold for the national team, he said while speaking to a sports platform:

“I've loved what I saw for a first couple of games, it was quite extraordinary to the point you want to see the replays of that game. But you cannot have a knee-jerk reaction and pick him in the World Cup, when he has only played two games and got injured.”

“You don't really know what he's capable of doing over a long period of time, under pressure and in different roles. Yes, he's an absolute lock for the future, and look after the asset. For me, it's the 2026 World Cup you should be looking at (with him).”

Justin Langer teases Shoaib Akhtar with 'phenta maar diya' remark after Mayank Yadav becomes fastest bowler in IPL 2024

LSG's Justin Langer shared a special message for Shoaib Akhtar after Mayank Yadav became the fastest bowler in IPL 2024.

With Mayank Yadav aka the 'Child of the wind' becoming India's new pace bowling sensation at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) head coach Justin Langer shared a hilarious message for legendary Pakistani fast bowler - Shoaib Akhtar. Nicknamed the Rawalpindi Express, Akhtar holds the record for bowling the fastest delivery in international cricket.

Speedster Akhtar bowled a 161.3 km/hr delivery against former England star Nick Knight to achieve the iconic feat at the ICC World Cup back in 2003. Inda's rising star Mayank hurled a 156.7 delivery against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to raise his stocks in the IPL 2024. After Yadav bowled the fastest ball of the IPL 2024 season, former Australian head coach Langer teased Akhtar by sharing his famous dialogue.

Mayank Yadav becomes fastest bowler in IPL 2024

The 21-year-old made his delayed IPL debut against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday. The LSG speedster bagged match-winning figures of 3 for 27 against Shikhar Dhawan's men. Mayank bowled a 155.8kph thunderbolt in his debut game. The LSG pacer improved his previous best by bowling the fastest ball of the IPL 2024 against RCB on Tuesday.

The LSG fast bowler picked up the crucial wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green to record match-winning figures of 3 for 14 against the Virat Kohli-starrer side. Mighty impressed with Mayank's fast-bowling exploits in the IPL, former West Indies fast pacer Ian Bishop said that the LSG speedster is a "kid bowling like a child of the wind" on X, formerly known as Twitter. "My aim is to play for India as much as possible. So I feel this is just the start and my main goal is what I am focused on," Yadav said after LSG's win over RCB in the IPL 2024.

How can you expect this brittle boned player to play international cricket? You need to keep ambulance ready inside ground every time he comes to bowl :cautious:

I agree. The superior , heavily carnivorous Pathan/Gujjar attack neither gets injured nor do they underperform vis a vis the daal sabzi attack .

No greater example than recent World Cup or Test cricket in general.
