National T20 Cup: Here’s why Safaraz resigned from Sindh captaincy

Pakistan cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed resigned from the captaincy of Sindh team just before they played their first match in the ongoing National T20 Cup being held at Faisalabad.

As per reports, Sarfaraz made the decision as he was upset over the misconduct after he was asked harsh questions at the press conference. The national team skipper had told the team management that he did not want to be Sindh captain in the tournament and would play as a normal player.

After Sarfaraz's refusal, Sindh team played their first match under the captaincy of Asad Shafiq and defeated Central Punjab. Sindh secured a thrilling win over Babar Azam led Central Punjab by chasing down a 189-run target on the second last delivery of the game last night at Iqbal Stadium.

Sindh captain Asad Shafiq, alongside Sarfaraz Ahmed on the other side, formed a crucial but brisk partnership of 49 runs off just 20 deliveries. Asad Shafiq and Sarfaraz scored 45 and 30 runs, respectively.

Earlier, Sarfraz said that the upcoming National T20 Cup is an opportunity for players to prove themselves and make their way in the national side for upcoming tour of Australia, to be held last month.

Sarfaraz is facing a lot of criticism, after the national cricket team suffered a humiliating 3-0 whitewash at the hands of inexperienced Sri Lanka in a recently concluded T20I series.

lol so he resigns from captaincy so that he doesnt have to face press conferences! hope he does the same in international cricket too

He should retire now as he is no longer helping the team. His graph will be down hill from here on.

PCB is the most brainless board in the world to continue with Sarfraz on current form and state of mind.

Shows his mental fortitude. Should be removed from international teams aswell

His been captain for a long time and this media interrogation is not easy to handle for so long I can see the cracks appearing.

While our media/press is the most uncouth lot with absolutely no moral or ethical code of conduct, it is hard to side with Sarfaraz at this time.

Regardless, Sarfaraz's performance as a player/captain should not be used to justify this kind of behavior from the press. These so-called journalists need to have a leash put on them!

Sarfaraz playing with some jazba in National T20 - trying to prove something?

Hopefully he gets lost from international too. Had enough of this clown.

Last nail in the coffin. Can't have your international captain showing this kind of attitude

You have got to be kidding me. He resigned from captaincy because he didn't want media to ask him tough questions? How old is he? 12? :rp

Right from the book of shahid afridi. Can't captain for 3 games then he will captain. Childish and pathetic. PCB obviously won't take any notice as ever.

Not sure if he resigned as such - just not captaining :D

Strange behaviour.

If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Great job by press, what Misbah should have done and didn't do it , our press has done.

Not too sure why Pakistani cricketers bring ego into everything. Saadi vi koi izzat hai, tay kita karaya kuch nahi.

This guy has nil performances to show for, and he ends up getting the highest central contract. Now he wants royal treatment?

Typical drama Younis-esque move form Saifi. Please also leave the national team captaincy.

"Sarfaraz bhai you have let down the country so much, all the players sitting here and fans of cricket are cursing you, who will come to watch you in Faisalabad?"

This may have been the incident that irked him.

The problem is that pro-Sarf journalists are irrational in their support, and some of the anti-Sarf journalists get personal in their questions and mannerisms (same has happened with the likes of Imam, etc.) Still, if the story is true, it's a bit of an overreaction.

whats being said here ?Kinda hard to understand ..

Strange.

As the captain of national team and a senior player, he shouldn’t behave like this...

The wheels are coming off. There was only so long he could pretend to be a legitimate captain of Pakistan when he's of FC 3rd XI quality.

Questions were a bit harsh, but come on, he's got to take this sort of stuff on the chin and move on.

Best captain since IK can’t even handle questions from the media. :salute

He is a pathetic communicator anyway.

Please ask him harsh questions about the Pakistan national team.

Hot and cold Pakistani journalists. What else is new?

Pertaining to Sarfraz, even though it's high time for him to be dropped, I just hope that Sarfraz not captaining (perhaps even for Pakistan) leads to him scoring good, consistent runs at an appropriate position in the batting order.
